Lot 53:
the Grove Stud-offered Kodiac colt, out of Honeymead, a daughter of the brilliant broodmare sire Pivotal, makes 270,000gns bought by Chris Dwyer as agent with Victoria de Sousa.
"We loved him, he is a quality-looking horse. He is for a client based abroad. He will probably be trained in Newmarket," said de Sousa.
Dwyer and de Sousa gave just one bid taking bids from the telephone from their client. "The line was great," smiled de Sousa, "and I was just hoping the hammer wasn't going to drop!"
(12:25)
Lot 51:
bids rained in from outside the sale ring from the socially distanced Tattersalls audience for the American Pharoah colt, touted by many as a likely sale topper, but it was a n internet bid that won the day at 400,000gns. The successful purchaser is Simon Chappell.
"I know the guys at Star Bloodstock and they've been telling me this colt is a good horse all year,"said Chappell. "At 400,000gns there was no way I was letting a horse like him slip through the net. He's by the sire of the moment in American Pharoah, he did the third-fastest breeze and has a massive stride, so I used the online bidding system and bought the horse. He'll be going into training with Simon Crisford."
The colt was bought as a yearling by Byron Rogers and Newminster Pinhook for $170,000 and was produced for Star Bloodstock by Johnny Hassett.
"He has always shown us a lot," said Rogers. "When we let them off in March and asked the draft to point their toes a little bit, he always went well.
"He is a very quick horse, he breezed as we expected he would."
(12:23)
Lot 28:
Colm Sharkey goes to 140,000gns for the colt by Dandy Man sold by Oak Tree Farm, pinhooked for €52,000 at last year's Tattersalls Ireland September Sale.
"He did a really nice consistent breeze, the full-sister is doing well and we liked him as a physical," said Sharkey. "He is for a new client, and will probably be trained in Newmarket."
The full-sister is called Broadbeach and was placed twice as a two-year-old last year in the UK (trained by David Simcock) and the USA.
(11:49)
Lot 18:
the first lot at the sale to sell for six figures, the chesnut daughter of young sire New Bay fetching 120,000gns bought by Armando Duarte.
"She breezed well, presented herself well and New Bay is doing well as a sire," said Duarte.
"She is for a new client. We need to decide on a trainer, but it will be in the Britain."
The filly, a half-sister to the multiple Group race winner New Providence, was pinhooked by Deuce Greathouse for 75,000gns at the October Book 2 Sale. She was breezed and sold by Aguiar Bloodstock.
First-season sire New Bay is the sire of two winners from five runners.
(11:32)

Tattersalls February Sale 2020
Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of the 2020 Tattersalls February Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“The first Tattersalls February Sale took place in the year 2000 and the sale is now a well-established fixture in the European bloodstock sales calendar, regularly attracting an extraordinarily diverse international cast of buyers, similar to so many sales at Tattersalls.
"The February Sale’s ability to draw buyers from all corners of the world has been particularly evident over the past two days with buyers from around 30 different countries all contributing to robust trade from start to finish and a set of figures which compare favourably with last year’s February Sale.
“The average and median have both risen appreciably and the top price of 200,000gns for the stakes-winning filly I’ll Have Another comfortably surpassed last year’s top-price at this fixture.
"The turnover has also risen despite a significantly smaller catalogue, and a clearance rate nudging 90 per cent is another clear indication of the enduring appeal of sales of this nature at Tattersalls.
"As ever, the quality consignments from Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell have been well received and in addition to widespread participation from throughout Europe including Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Spain, Sweden and Turkey, buyers from the Gulf region as well as Australia, Kazakhstan, Israel, Libya, South Africa and the USA have all made a significant contribution to a Tattersalls February Sale which has provided a positive start to the year."

(15:53)
Lot 367:
Arbiter is going to Qatar and into training with Hamad Al Jehani, Conrad Allen on hand here today in charge of purchasing.
"He is a handy horse and should suit racing in Qatar," said Allen after spending 48,000gns on the son of Kingman. "He ran over 7f at Newcastle and was on the pace there, so he should be okay on the sharper track in Qatar.
"He vetted well and as the quarantine is just 16 days, and we can keep him ticking over, he should be ready to roll once he gets to Qatar – the racing is in the middle of its season at present."
(15:06)
Lot 347:
syndicate group Quantum buys St Just (Golden Horn) from the William Haggas draft for 55,000gns, adding to the 11 horses already under the ownership banner, a number of which were bought here in October. All are in training with Jedd O'Keeffe.
"I have watched this horse racing," said Ramsden, "and I think he is a nice type. We will probably geld him now and wait for a summer Turf Campaign. It will be interesting to see what sort of a trip he gets and how far he stays."
Quantum is a young ownership group but it has enjoyed a lot of success already – all of the horse bar one has won, and its flagship horse Starcaster was sold privately to go to Australia.
Tavus was bought here at the October Horses In Training Sale for 105,000gns from the Roger Charlton Beckhampton draft. The son of Pour Moi has run three times over hurdles, winning twice and he is rated 130 over timber.
"He is entered in the Triumph Hurdle and what is now called the Boodles, the former Fred Winter," said Ramsden. "We will probably aim for the latter, but we might also enter him in the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Sale with the race entry."
St Just is the winner of one race over a mile and is rated 73.
(15:03)
Lot 346:
Will Douglass adds to the Gassim Ghazali's string with the purchase of Cape Abel for the Qatari Champion trainer.
"He is a maiden and Gassim likes that," reported Douglass having spent 40,000gns on the colt by Australia. "he is a lovely horse and has come recommended from a very good yard that does a great job."
Cape Abel has been placed second at Wolverhampton over 1m1f since the catalogue was published.
(15:00)
Lot 344 and Lot 345:
Baadirr is off to Spain, bought by owner Enrique Fernandez De Vega.
The son of Showcasing was selected by trainer Jesus Lopez and he said: "He is a maiden which is good, but has shown good form. He is by Showcasing and he is very well bred."
The racing in Madrid starts in March so this 40,000gns purchase should be ready to go from the off.
Baadirr was formerly trained by William Haggas for Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum.
Lot
345, Moosmee, a colt by Society Rock, out of Tara Too and from the Somerville Lodge draft , also fetches 40,000gns. He was bought by Epsom trainer Simon Dow.
He has won one race as a two-year-old over 6f and his family stretches back to the speedy mare Flanders, winner of the King's Stand Stakes (G2), and dam of the champion sprinter, G Force.
(14:55)
Lot 328:
a venture between Shamrock Thoroughbreds and Syndicates Racing buys Lariat for 32,000gns.
"He is going to Ado McGuinness," said Stephen Thorne, manager of Shamrock Thoroughbred and assistant to McGuinness. "Lariat has a good profile and on the Flat wants a mile to 1m2f on soft ground – he should make up into a dual purpose type."
Lariat was formerly trained by Andrew Balding for Mick and Janice Mariscotti. He has only won once in ten starts, but he has been placed in eight of those runs. He is rated 86.
(14:08)
Lot 326:
Gerry Flannery of Esker Lodge Stud, Roscommon bred Sunshine Fantasy, sold her as a foal to Crispin de Moubray for €60,000 and today bought her back for 36,000gns.
In the interim the three-year-old Make Believe filly is the winner of one race, successful at Newcastle in January.
"I bought her dam Elshamms in 2009 and she has done me proud, but she is a 25-year-old now," said Flannery.
The mare certainly has done Flannery well – she has bred two black-type winners, one black-type performer and ten winners, including the Listed winner Flaming Spear and Group 2 Rockfel Stakes third Desert Blossom.
"This filly is big enough, and I have not thought about stallions yet – I wanted to get her bought first!"
(14:02)
Lot 304:
from the Prestige Place (M. Botti), Richard Ryan buys Lady Red Moon, a daughter of Havana Gold, for 24,000gns.
She won twice as a two-year-old last year, her victories including a Class 2 handicap at Newmarket.
(13:22)
Lot 285:
Creationist has a new life ahead in Ireland having been sold by Roger Charlton's Beckhampton House Stables on behalf of Nick Bradley Racing 38 & Sohi for 60,000gns.
The 92-rated son of Noble Mission, the winner of two races, haas been bought as a galloping companion and heads to trainer Ken Condon.
"He has been bought to go to Ireland and to Ken Condon's and though he will run as a dual-purpose horse he has been mainly bought to be a work companion for Romanised," said Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, racing manager for Romanised's owner Robert Ng.
"Creationist is a well-rated horse and looks as though he will do that job well," added Pritchard-Gordon, saying: "I am sure Ken will find a few options on the track for him, too."
Of Romanised, Pritchard-Gordon updated: "He is in a really good place, and is 12-14lb above his racing weight and Ken is really pleased with him.
"We have another winning three-year-old in Ireland to work with him. We will probably go straight to the Lockinge without a prep race and we will look for a racecourse gallop, if a track will be kind enough to let us use somewhere.
"We'd like to use an away-day to get his blood up as he has not run since September."
Romanised, by Holy Roman Emperor, won the Irish 2,000 Guineas as a three-year-old and added to his Group 1 CV last year with a fine victory in the Prix du Jacques le Marois.
He also finished second in the Prix due Moulin (G1) behind Circus Maximus, a race that was subject of an appeal by Ng after the race winner edged left onto horse. The appeal was not successful.
(12:35)

the well-bred Amorously, by Australia and a grand-daughter of Strawberry Roan, the Sadler's Wells half-sister to the champion three-year-old and Derby winner Generous, is bought by the Sussex-based Lech Breeding.

Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of the 2019 Tattersalls December Mares Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“Vibrant international demand is the hallmark of so many sales at Tattersalls and the 2019 December Mares Sale has yet again demonstrated the enduring appeal, not only of this historic fixture, but also of quality European bloodstock.
"The Tattersalls December Sale is an extraordinary magnet for thoroughbred breeders from throughout the world and this year’s sale has more than lived up to its reputation as probably the most international bloodstock sale in the world.
“We have been fortunate to have had some outstanding December catalogues in recent years and it may be fair to say that the 2019 renewal lacked a little of the usual depth, but buyers from throughout the world have competed fiercely for the best fillies and mares all week, and we can reflect on a very positive end to the Tattersalls sales season.
"A record-breaking 27 lots sold for 500,000gns or more and the unprecedented 81 lots which made 200,000gns or more are a very clear indication of the sustained demand for the best European breeding stock and for the enduring appeal of the Tattersalls December Sale.
“The obvious highlight of the week was the 2.1 million guineas sale of Jeanette McCreery's outstanding broodmare Coplow.
"Jeanette and her late husband Bob have achieved so much success over the years and the sale of Coplow was a magnificent tribute to their years of commitment to our industry.
"While the McCreery legacy is a wonderful British success story, the December Sale’s unique status is derived from its truly global appeal.
"Consignors from Britain, Ireland and France have all enjoyed conspicuous success this week and buyers from every continent in the world have all made a significant contribution with the 30 highest-priced lots attracting new domestic investment as well as buyers from America, Australia, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Spain.
“In other sectors of the market we have seen equally diverse participation, notably from Argentina, Hong Kong, India, Morocco, Turkey as well as from throughout Europe.
"We should recognise the contribution made by our wide network of overseas representatives all of whom have helped to create such spectacular and consistent international demand, not just at the December Sale, but at Tattersalls sales throughout the year.
"For the third consecutive year our annual turnover has reached more than 300 million guineas and, as ever, we extend our thanks to each and every vendor and purchaser whose consistent support is the crucial element in any successful year at Tattersalls."
