McStay added: "I was only bidding because Fiona's hand was shaking so much! The family has been so lucky for Fiona she could not leave without her."

At the conclusion of the 2020 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale
Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“In the current climate we are all looking to accentuate the positives and I think we can reflect on solid if unspectacular trade at this year’s renewal of the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up.
"This is, however, a year where ’solid if unspectacular’ is a positive outcome and we would like to thank all those who have participated at today’s sale for their contribution.
"The buyers have worked incredibly hard and the breeze up consignors have had to endure uniquely difficult conditions in the run up to the 2020 breeze up sales season, but ultimately everyone can look back on sales which have largely exceeded expectations.
“It has been challenging staging events of this nature with the prevailing COVID-related regulations still in place but, despite continued travel restrictions, today’s Guineas Breeze Up has seen demand from throughout the world, including Australia, Bahrain, Dubai, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Kuwait, Qatar and Spain.
"The international demand has been accompanied by spirited bidding from the domestic British and Irish buyers and has resulted in some notable pin-hooking successes, while the overseas' buyers have made use of every possible means at their disposal to participate in the sale, including extensive use of our new live internet bidding platform as well as telephone bidding.
"It is a tribute to the resilience of the global bloodstock market that we continue to experience this level of international demand and we expect to see further widespread use of the live internet bidding platform at our two-day July Sale which commences tomorrow morning at 10.00am."
(17:18)
Lot 148:
Yvonne and Ger Kennedy of Sherbourne Lodge have enjoyed watching the racing in France this spring, in particular first-season Goken's continued success.... they had bought a colt by the sire last autumn, this spring's only catalogued breeze up offering by Goken.
Their colt, whom they purchased for just €9,500, did not let them down either and he was purchased today by trainer Willie Muir for 60,000gns, a fine return on the couple's pin-hook outlay.
"We loved this horse even before Goken's spring success, he is gorgeous horse," they smiled. "It has been great watching Goken go forward – he is fast sire and has thrived."
The Haras de Colleville-based stallion, a dual Group 3 winner and placed third in the King's Stand Stakes (G1), has made a fantastic start at stud. Despite the delayed start to the season, the son of Kendargent is now the sire of eight winners, including the unbeaten Group 3 Prix du Bois winner Livachope,
(17:05)
Lot 138:
"He has been bought for trainer David Loughnane," said Micheal Orlandi of Compas Equine after going to 82,000gns for the colt by Kodiac, bred and sold by Tally-Ho Stud.
"He is bred speed on speed and should be fast," said Orlandi.
(16:50)
Lot 108:
immediately following the sale of the Make Believe, David Redvers had to settle as one of the underbidders again when out-pointed by Alan King, sat with Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstock, at 140,000gns for this colt by Excelebration.
"We don't go on times, but unfortunately he did a good time which increased interest in him, and pushed his price," said Bromley. "We just like to look at them as individuals, their strides and general way of going."
"This is the horse we really wanted and we had to really push the boat out to get him," added the agent.
King, fresh from his three-timer at Royal Ascot, added: "Delighted and he is for two long-standing supporters of the yard in Max McNeill and Niall Farrell."
The colt was a Meadowview Stables pin-hook, purchased at Tattersalls September Yearling Sale for €18,000.
He is a half-brother to four winners, and out of a Mark Of Esteem daughter of Sweetness Herself, a Listed winner and Group 3 placed.
(16:13)
Lot 107:
"It was massive!" smiled Dolmen Bloodstock when asked what impact Mishriff's Prix du Jockey-Club win at the weekend had on the sale of their own filly by the same young sire, Make Believe.
The partnership of Justin Timmons and Danny O'Donovan of Dolmen Bloodstock, paid just €10,000 for the filly at the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale last year. They were hugely rewarded for their foresight today when Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock paid 105,000gns for the filly.
"She has an engine, we were very happy withe breeze. She has been very busy, but it is always hard to gauge," said Timmons. "We had the right people on her."
Bidding against Brown was David Redvers.
Dolmen Bloodstock is based in Kildare and the lads are "work riders. mucker outers and do everything".
Dolmen Bloodstock is named after a landmark close to Carlow.
According to Wkipedia it is a dolmen "a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb, usually consisting of two or more vertical megaliths supporting a large flat horizontal capstone or "table". Most date from the early Neolithic (4000–3000 BC) and were sometimes covered with earth or smaller stones to form a tumulus.
"The largest dolmen in Europe is the Brownshill Dolmen in County Carlow, Ireland. Its capstone weighs about 150 tonnes."
(16:01)
Lot 87:
the first horse to sell at Tattersalls by the German-based Gestut Graditz sire Lucky Lion fetches 95,000gns to a winning bid from Jake Warren. Underbidder was Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock with Mags O'Toole also involved through for a long way into the bidding process.
"It is unique for a horse like this to be at a breeze up sale. He has size and scope to have breezed as well as he did has to be very positive – he has the credentials to become a Derby prospect
"He should make up into a lovely horse, middle-distance type, and the bulk of his career will come next year.
"We have not decided on a trainer yet, but he will stay in the UK. "
of this year's trade, Warren said: "It has been a up and down, but has presented opportunities for us. We bought three horses at the Craven Sale and now five in total.
"We have been over-subscribed for a syndicate and with racing getting going there has bene a lot of excitement in the air."
Lucky Lion was a Group 1 winner in Germany over 1m2f (beating Noble Mission by half a length) and winner of the Group 2 Mehl Mulhens-Rennen (German 2000 Guineas).
He is a son of High Chaparral, and was bought by Stroud Coleman for €21,000 as a yearling. He was offered today by Tally-Ho Stud.
This is the sire's first crop of two-year-olds.
(15:23)
Lot 61:
Oliver St Lawrence goes to 72,000gns for this colt by New Approach out of Gacequita, sold by Egmont Stud.
"I thought he was a nice solid horse, he did a very good time. He was been bought for Fazwi Nass with Dubai in mind. He will probably be sent to a trainer over here to start with, but he should be a progressive type.
"On my times did the tenth fastest breeze and he is a nice individual."
Of this spring's breeze up trade, St Lawrence said: "It has been very solid, fair better than hoped and at all levels."
Egmont quickly followed up with another good sale selling Lot
67, a bay colt by first-season sire Pearl Secret, for 35,000gns.
Egmont's Mark Flannery bought the colt as a yearling for just £14,000.
(14:23)
Lot 47:
the Kodiac filly from Katie Mcgivern's Derryconnor Stud from County Wexford makes 90,000gns.
She was a vendor buy-back as a yearling and sold today for a partnership between breeder Naffety Stud and Mcgivern.
"She did the fastest in the breeze, she clocked a fast time," reported Mcgivern. "She is lovely, very straightforward filly – I hope she is a stakes filly for the new owner.
"She has loads of ability, and is very easy – the good ones are generally easy in my barn, maybe not in everybody else's barn, but in my barn they are!
"She was always a powerful filly and looked like a colt, and still does."
According to Mcgivern she will certainly live up to the title "ready to run".
"She will be ready in two weeks, is ready to crack on with.
"The coronovirus didn't stop her as she is actually a middle of the summer of the filly, a 6f or7f filly, she has not missed the boat."
Of this year's breeze up season, Mcgivern was very positive.
"It has been consistent for me, I have sold everything I have offered so far. There has been a great sale at every sale I have been at, no different from any other year apart from the precautions we have had to take, "she said, adding: "For me there is a good solid market at every level."
Of future plans for the filly, trainer James Tate said: "Run as soon as possible! She did a very fast time, I thought she was a stand-out filly in the catalogue. She will be the most expensive, but I thought she was decent value at that.
"I hope she will be running in July, she looks fit and well, hoping if she stays that well she can run soon."
Rabbah Bloodstock signed the docket for new owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum.
(14:04)
Lot 26:
goes to MJ Macleod / Stroud Coleman, via a successful bid online, the colt by Due Diligence fetching 47,000gns.
He is a half-brother to two winners and from the extended family of the MiddlePark Stakes (G1) winner Lycius.
He was bred by Fiona Gordon and sold by Ballycullen Stables.
(13:01)
Lot 21:
agent Richard Knight with purchaser Sheikh Abdullah Al-Malek Al-Sabah go to 57,000gns to buy the Hardwood Stud-consigned son of Acclamation.
"He will go to Richard Fahey, he is a horse that Sheikh Abdullah liked, and we hope he will be very lucky," said Knight. "I am sure he will make a two-year-old."
The colt, a three-quarters brother to Group 3 winner Hitchens, was bought as a yearling by Hardwood Stud for €16,000. He was bred by Norelands Bloodstock & D. E. H. Turner.
(12:57)
Lot 11:
Sea The Moon has been enjoying an excellent year on the track, a highlight so far being his first Group 1 winner with Alpine Star's Coronation Stakes win at Royal Ascot.
That success has been repeated in the sale ring today and his Meadowview Stables-offered son sold for 50,000gns, bought by Highflyer Bloodstock and trainer Alan King.
(12:52)
Lot 6:
bought for 16,000gns at last year's October Book 3 Yearling Sale, this colt by Starspangledbanner gives Knockanglass Stables a fine return today when selling for 77,000gns.
He was purchased by Sean Quinn, who has had some luck before with breeze up purchases by the sire – he bought subsequent Group 1 winner The Wow Signal from the Ascot Breeze Up Sale in 2014.
"This horse did a very pleasing breeze and what I liked is he got stronger as the breeze went on," said Quinn. "I didn't have any intention of buying a breeze up horse, but when I saw him he caught my eye and I discussed it with Dad [John] and said he might be a good addition to the team.
"I watched the breeze at home just because it is a long week if you are down here all the time and we are quite busy at home, but John [Kilbride] was here and he watched it live and gave me a bit of help.
"He is for an existing man in the yard so he is happy!", said Quinn, adding: "Starspangledbanner is a vey good stallion and this is a nice horse. This is a very late April foal so we will get him home, but there is no rush with the horse, we will let him tell us."

Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale

(18:42)
Chairman's Statement
At the conclusion of the 2020 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“First and foremost we would like to pay tribute to each and every individual who has worked so hard to make sure that the 2020 Craven Breeze Up Sale took place under almost normal conditions, albeit more than two months later than intended.
"In particular we should recognise the patience and commitment of the breeze up consignors who have worked with us every step of the way and have adapted to the challenges that the global pandemic has thrown at people in every walk of life.
"None of us can pretend that the past few months have been easy, but in these times of adversity it has been even more pleasing than usual to see so many of the consignors well rewarded.
"A clearance rate of 83 per cent, an average price nudging 100,000 guineas and a top-priced colt matching last year’s highest-priced colt, are very respectable statistics and reflect the outstanding professionalism of the breeze up consignors who, as ever, brought a fine collection of two-year-olds to the Craven Breeze Up Sale.
"We should equally recognise the huge contribution made by today’s purchasers. They have yet again demonstrated the enduring appetite for quality European thoroughbreds and the esteem in which the Craven Breeze Up is held.
"Even in these extraordinary times we have had buyers active from all corners of the world including Australia, Bahrain, Dubai, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Qatar and Spain and the domestic demand has also exceeded expectations.
"Obviously the highlight was Johnny Collins’ spectacular pinhooking triumph with his outstanding 575,000 guineas sale-topping Night of Thunder colt, but there were numerous other success stories and we can be confident that there will be plenty of 2020 Craven Breeze Up graduates performing at the highest level.
“We are expecting international travel restrictions to be eased in the near future, which will be a great relief, and as we look forward to the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and July Sale it has also been encouraging to see the new internet bidding facility being widely used by buyers at all levels of the market.
"We have done our best to explore every possible way for buyers to participate at our sales in these unusual times and it has clearly been well received."

Lot 152:
The Cool Silk Partnership / Stroud Coleman rounds off the Craven Sale with a bang going to 375,000gns for this filly by Hard Spun, sold by Mocklershill.
Buyer Peter Swann was with agent Matt Coleman and said: "We really liked this filly and waited for her. She is a lovely horse and travelled over well. She has only done her prep since March and has handled it well.
"She might end up going abroad, we have just sent Midnight Sands to Brendan Walsh in the US.
"This filly will have some resale value, too"
Of the breeze-up sales, Swann added: "We like to buy at the breeze up sales as you get to see how the horse is mentally dealing with training.
"At the sale we look at times and strides and everything really, we have Matt with us and James [Given] to vet, but we also like to see the horses in the yard and see their characters.
"I think the market has been quite strong, we were underbidder on the Twilight Son filly. As the breeze ups have been so late this year we have had to be patient, but we hope we have bought a classier type."
Consignor Willie Brown of Mocklershill said: "I am flabbergasted! She is a lovely filly, a seriously good filly, and has been very busy since we got here.
"She has been training well and only arrived with us on March 2. Then the only sale open was Goresbridge, but with the delays, and as she was working so well, we entered her here on a wild card."
The filly, who is out of the Grade 3-placed Lemonette (Lemon Drop Kid), was not sold in the US as a yearling when consigned by Normandy Farm LLC.
(15:37)
Lot 134:
Tom Biggs of Blandford Bloodstock sees off Mark McStay and David Redvers to buy the Night Of Thunder colt from Brown Island Stables. Biggs was forced to go to 575,000gns, the sale's top price, in order to achieve a successful purchase.
"He will stay in Newmarket," said Biggs. "It was a little more than we had wanted to spend, but you have to pay for this sort of horse. He is a lovely horse, he did a very nice breeze and is sire is doing so well."
Johnny Collins of Brown Island paid just £72,000 to buy the colt as a yearling, purchasing from breeder Selwood Bloodstock.
"I had one by Night Of Thunder last year and really wanted to get another to join the team. He went through very early, looked like an April 28 foal. and was only 15hh high – he is 16hh horse now!
"The time delay this spring has probably helped him, but he has always been a powerful galloper."
Of his sire,Collins added: "Who could have foreseen what he would achieve? He has got better books coming forward and he really is taking himself up into the higher brackets."
(14:47)
Lot 96:
agent Alex Elliott is the successful purchaser of this Kodiac colt from Tally-Ho Stud, the agent going to 220,000gns.
"He is for a partnership and goes into training with Archie Watson, he did a very good breeze. He came highly recommended, Roger [O'Callaghan] told me of two horses in the early spring and this was one of them.
"I bought Setarhe from Tally-Ho last year and she finished second in last week's Albany Stakes
"Kodiac had a great Royal Ascot and is the sire on everyone's lips."
(13:47)
Lot 83:
David Redvers went to 200,000gns for the Dubawi filly out of the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes winner Mezznah (Dynaformer). She was sold by Egmont Stud.
"She has been bought on behalf of Sheikh Fahad as a long-term prospect to add to the broodmare band.
"She is out of a good mare and by a top class stallion. She goes to John Gosden and will need a bit of time – she looks more of a three-year-old type.
"But we know she can gallop, we know she is sound so we are delighted."
Redvers's thoughts were not far away from a certain horse in training at Kingsclere.
"Kameko is very well, he did a sensational piece of work yesterday," smiled Redvers. "He is very well, he is a class horse, and everyone, including all at Kingsclere, have got the butterflies churning looking ahead to Epsom."

Lot 68:
"This horse did an exceptional breeze, in every way - visually, on time and stride, it really ticked all the boxes," said Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock after spending 250,000gns on the son of Shalaa offered by Malcolm Bastard.
"Shalaa has made a good start, we like the stallion. His runners so far look as though they are going to 7f / miling types. This mare has done it already.
"We are delighted to have bought this horse, he was the one we highlighted early. He goes to Simon Crisford.
Bastard said: "A fantastic sale, we are delighted, especially as we were not sure coming into today. he came to me in January and has always worked well. He is going to a good trainer."
Bastard was with breeder Toby Barker, who explained why the horse was not offered as a yearling.
"He was a bit backward, so we decided to wait. Malcolm has done a great job," said Barker, adding: "We liked Shalaa before he retired to stud. She has been a phenomenal mare for us and I just try to keep out of her way!"
Lauren Louise is dam of four winners from six runners, including the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes winner Blaine and the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy winner Bogart.
Alex Elliott, standing outside, was one of the underbidders.

Lot 63:
the son of Shamardal is bought by Oliver St Lawrence for 150,000gns on behalf of Fazwi Nass.
"We weren't intending to buy a breeze-up horse at all" laughed Nass. "But we really loved him, and he is by Shamardal – they are not easy to come by. He will be trained in the UK, and we will see how we go with hi m before making any plans."
Oliver St Lawrence added: "He is from a very consignor."
