At the conclusion of the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“More than 1,500 yearlings have been sold at Tattersalls in the course of the past two weeks, to swathes of eager buyers from literally all corners of the world and we should take this opportunity to thank every single participant for their contribution to another successful Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
“Every year the October Yearling Sale showcases the cream of the European yearling crop and we must recognise that it is the support of the breeders and consignors from Britain, Ireland, France, Germany and further afield which shapes this fixture.
"They provide the quality yearlings which give us the platform to promote the October Yearling Sale and to attract the buyers at all levels of the market in such impressive numbers.
“It is, of course, important to reflect on the spectacular highlights of Books 1 and 2, which between them contributed more than 150 million guineas to the total turnover just shy of 160 million guineas, but it is equally satisfying to be able to take positives from Book 3.
"The sale achieved a record price of 145,000 guineas for a Book 3 filly, some great pinhooking successes and real competition at all levels. The British and Irish were joined by a diverse overseas contingent and it has been rewarding to see buyers from countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Poland and Serbia alongside those from the traditional overseas markets.
"We work hard in these areas and the overseas buyers have all made a significant contribution to the sustained demand throughout Book 3 and the solid clearance rate of 81%.
"There are so many outside political and economic forces at play which could be expected to undermine our bloodstock market, but the past two weeks at Tattersalls have given everyone involved cause to be proud of what this industry has to offer." (12:00)

Lot 1881: "We will aim to run in and win a maiden next summer and then get him sold abroad," said John Joseph Murphy of the Tamayuz colt bought for 43,000gns, adding: "He looks like a mid-summer horse."
Murphy had a bit of luck this summer with Shared Ambition – his three-year-old by Born To Sea won twice in Ireland and was subsequently bought to go to Australia. He was already won twice in his new homeland.
"We have to be sellers now," said Murphy. "We can't survive on training fees. I have bought ten this week, some for owners but also a few to look to trade on too."
He purchased with the help of agent Matt Coleman.
"I thought this horse was the nicest today – he has lots of quality, he is a super model with a strong back pedigree, and the half-brother now has a black-type update," said Coleman.
The colt is out of Marah Dubai (Dubawi), a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Belle Et Celebre, the Group 2 winner Whortleberry, the Group 3 winner Valentino, Appel Au Maitre, a former champion two and three-year-old colt in Scandinavia, as well as to Ysoldina, the dam of the Derby (G1) winner Wings Of Eagles.

Lot 1795: Gay Kelleway Racing spends 38,000gns on the Territories filly from Bearstone Stud, but it was in the capacity as an agent rather than a trainer.
"She is for a Dubai-based client of my sister's," said Kelleway. "She looks a real two-year-old type, a lovely filly with a pedigree. She will be trained in the UK but not with me.
"The half-brother won well at Bath earlier this week and looks a nice type."
The filly was bred and sold by Bearstone Stud.
Stud owner Terry Holdcroft said: "We bought the mare in 2014 and she has a Profitable filly foal and was covered by Oasis Dream. The win by the half-brother certainly helped with this sale."
The filly's second dam is the good race horse, the Listed sprinter Palace Affair, dam of the Listed winner Queen's Grace. Third dam is Palace Street, dam of Sakhee's Secret, Palace Moon and King's Caprice.
It has been a good fortnight for Bearstone: a top-price of 150,000gns in Book 2 of an Acclamation colt (Lot 950), and a great race result on Arc day – the homebred and owned Glass Slippers winning the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye. (15:17)

Lot 1739: pinhooked by Beechvale Stud for €15,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Flat Foal Sale, this Night Of Thunder colt sells today for 75,000gns.
The farm is based in County Antrim and is a real family affair – run by father Trevor, he and son Chris picked out the colt together as foal, daughter Tara led up today.
"Chris picked him out," said Armstrong. "He could not be here today – he works in the office at Ballydoyle, hopefully he as been watching!"
"This colt was a nice, scopey foal and he has done well. Dalakhani is a top broodmare sire and Night Of Thunder has been on fire, too."
"He is a lovely, sweet horse, but can be a bit cheeky," added Tara of the athletic colt, bought by John Hassett as a breeze-up prospect.
"I've bought two yearlings out of Dalakhani mares before," said Hassett. "One went from 30,000gns to 200,000gns and the other went from 29,000gns to 160,000gns, so Dalakhani mares were my own little niche, until Pinatubo came along!
"He's by the right sire, too, and I just think he looks like a quick horse. He'll go to whichever sale fits in best with his preparation, I don't make those calls until just before the catalogues come out. I like to see how they're going first.
"It's been very difficult buying this week, the market is very strong, which is great – I hope all these buyers come back to the breeze-ups!
"Book 2 was exceptionally strong, the middle day there was maybe the strongest ever. It's a solid and very discerning market."
