Lot 229:
Jacqueline Quest has not had a yearling sell for less than 200,000gns (with a top price of 1.1 million guineas) and the 1,000 Guineas runner-up maintained her form today – her Dubawi colt sold for 525,000gns, bought by Godolphin and sold by New England Stud, the property of Christopher Hanbury.
The daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar has also enjoyed success on the track – she has had four winners from four runners, including Line Of Duty, the 2018 Breeder's Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner, and the Listed winner Onassis. Act of Wisdom, her two-year-old of this year, is the winner of one race from two starts for trainer Charlie Appleby. He runs today at Nottingham (2.35) and holds an entry in the Zetland Stakes (G3).
UPDATE: Act Of Wisdom made it two wins from three starts in the nursery at Nottingham
(14:23)
Lot 225:
the Moyglare Stakes (G1) winner and Irish 1,000 Guineas (G1) fourth-placed filly Intricately (Fastnet Rock) was bought here at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2017 for the significant investment of 1.7 million guineas by John and Jake Warren on behalf of breeders Mike and Michelle Morris. She was given a first cover to Dubawi and today that resulting colt was sold by Highclere Stud for 1.1 million guineas to Anthony Stroud / Godolphin, the first seven-figure lot through the Book 1 day two session.
"It is very exciting, I am absolutely thrilled for the Morris's, they stepped up and bought a fantastic mare and she has really repaid them today. He is a gorgeous colt and has been since the day he was born, he has the most fantastic temperament," said consignor Lady Carolyn Warren of Highclere Stud. "I am thrilled for the breeders and everyone."
Her son Jake Warren, who selected the mare in 2017 with his father John, added: "It is a real group affair, a lot of team work is involved in this. Mike and Michelle bought the mare, she is a beautiful quality mare. She has a stallion in her pedigree, she was a Group 1 two-year-old winner, she is by one of the best stallions in the world, and she is an outstanding looker. She had everything as a broodmare, which is why we stepped up to buy her then. And she has done nothing but please us since. It is testament to that, and to the efforts by stud manager Rachel Spindlow and the staff at Highclere.
"It was the intention through this process to be playing at this end of the table, and thank you very much to Anthony Stroud for buying him. I want to say thank you to him and the underbidder – he is a fantastic horse, and it was wonderful that two people valued him to such a level."
As a first foal out of the young mare it is a strong result so early in the mare's breeding career. She had a Dubawi colt foal this year and is in-foal to Kingman.
"He really was as good a first foal as you would wish to see," said Warren., adding: "She has got a colt foal who is equally as good who might be coming back here next year and the she is in-foal to Kingman. Down the line some of the progeny might be kept to race, but the mare owes a few quid so she needs to clear the balance sheet first! And she needs to produce a filly!"
(13:48)
Lot 197:
a second purchase this week for Joseph O'Brien – the young trainer goes to 260,000gns for the Hazelwood Bloodstock offered Lope De Vega colt , a half-brother to Group 3 winners Mayhem and Memphis Tennessee and the Listed winner Royal Bench.
(13:29)
Lot 189:
a lot of the bloodstock news this summer has concerned Wootton Bassett. First his purchase by Coolmore to stand at the farm in Ireland moving from Haras d'Etreham in France, and then the success he has enjoyed on the track through the late summer – his daughter Audarya became his second Group 1 winner when taking the Prix Jean Romanet (G1) in August and then Wooded won the Prix de l'Abbaye (G1) last weekend. His two-year-old Chindt won the Champagne Stakes (G2) and looks very promising for next year, while earlier in the season The Summit finished second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (G1) and Prix du Jockey Club (G1).
With the hope that the stallion would indeed go from strength to strength this year, Philipp Stauffenberg pinhooked this filly in 2019 for €190,000. Today the investment produced rewards with a sale today to agent Charlie Gordon-Watson for 600,000gns.
"She goes to Andre Fabre. She is a beautiful filly and worth stretching for. She has a great pedigree, Wootton Basset is doing really well and going forward she will be a great addition to the owner's stud," reported Gordon-Watson.
The January-born filly is out of the Johannesburg mare Green Diamond Lady, dam of the Listed winner Lady Galore (Raven's Pass), and a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Plan (Storm Cat) and the Listed winner and Group 1-placed Dreamtheimpossible (Giant's Causeway). They are all out of Spain (Thunder Gulch), a nine-time winner and dual Group 1 winner, her wins including the Breeders's Cup Distaff.
(12:36)
Lot 186:
Nicolas Jones's purchase of Gryada for 160,000gns in 2005 proved to be an inspired purchase – not only did the mare the year after purchase produce the multiple Group 1 winner Fame And Glory, but she produced three fillies that have been retained by the farm.
Gryada's influence is still paying off in spades through her daughters at Jones's Coln Valley Stud.
Last year Grace And Favour (2011, Montjeu) second foal, a colt by Kingman, fetched 2.3 million guineas, while in 2018 the third foal out of Grace And Glory (2010, Montjeu) made 600,000gns.
Today the farm offered the first foal out of Great And Small (2013, Galileo), a colt by Dubawi. he was bought by Anthony Stud for Godolphn for 800,000gns.
"I am delighted, it is a nerve-wracking game this – in that three minutes is the only revenue for the stud in 365 days, that's the one time we only have cash in rather than cash out!" smiled Jones.
He added: "The foals out of Grace and Favour and Grace And Glory have sold very well. The family is doing exceptionally well. It's nice that all three daughters have produced lovely colts to bring up here. I like to keep the fillies – and I can afford to keep them now!"
Of Grace And Small's latest news, Jones updated with a cheeky smile: "There is a full-brother foal and I said today to Antony Stroud, 'I hope to see him here again next year!' She is in-foal to Bated Breath."
Jones also gave his thoughts on the wonderful mare Gryada, who started all this off for the farm. "She died a few years back, she was quite old when I bought her, but she produced these lovely fillies for me. She was bred by Lord Howard de Walden and was a wonderful broodmare."
Jones enjoys his stud farm and breeding his horses, but selling them does come with its stresses. "I love it, but I do lose a stone in weight coming up here – my wife would say that is a good thing! We have a small stud and try and keep it small and have the best mares we can afford."
Jones has been long supported at the farm by stud groom Ian Emes, however he is due to retire next month. His replacement Glen Eddery has already been appointed and is working on the farm.
(12:18)
Lot 180:
first in this morning gets the ball rolling swiftly.
Bred and sold by Ballylinch Stud, and by the farm's own leading stallion Lope De Vega, the colt fetches 160,000gns bought by trainer Roger Varian.
The colt is a first foal out of Glamorous Approach (New Approach), a dual Listed winner, BHA rated 103 and bought by Ballylinch for €280,000 in 2018.
The mare also has a colt foal by Lope De Vega.

Lot 174:
five lots from the end of the Day 1 session produces the top lot – the Kingman colt out of Galicuix, the dam of the St James's Palace and 2,000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold, fetches 2.7 million guineas. The colt was bought by agent Oliver St Lawrence – the underbidder was Ross Doyle standing next to M V Magnier – and he is the highest-priced yearling by Kingman. The colt was bred by Colin Murfitt at Pantile Stud and was sold by Houghton Bloodstock.
The colt is the highest-priced yearling sold in Europe or North American in 2020.
Pantile Stud's stud manager Bo Hicks-Little said: "He has never put a foot wrong. He is a super star, and not just physically, he is so mentally strong too, he is such a professional. He was a late April foal and we had a bad night when he was born as we nearly lost the mare. We had to bottle feed him for 24 hours."
The Pantile yearlings always go to Houghton for the last eight weeks of their prep and consignor Robin Sharp was thrilled with the sale.
"That is the best price for Houghton – our previous best was 500,000gns last year," said Sharp. "I am delighted for Colin – he has been a friend and a client for a long time. This is a lovely, lovely colt. He has taken his prep so well and he is so much like Kingman, which is what I think made people take notice of him. He really stood out and is a class-looking horse.
"It is unbelievable, you always approach sales with an amount of trepidation, especially this year. But this is what makes this game – it is like snakes and ladders!"
Buyer Oliver St Lawrence said: "He has been bought for Fawzi Nass and Bahrain interests. He is a gorgeous horse, he has a stallion's pedigree. He will be trained in Britain, I don't know where yet."
Murfitt purchased Galicuix, a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Goldream (Oasis Dream), from Trinity Park Stud at the Tattersalls December Sale for 8,000gns in 2013. As a racehorse the daughter of Galileo ran twice and failed to beat another runner. Her first foal was Galileo Gold (Paco Boy), born in 2013, and she has now had five winners from five runners.
In 2018, Kingman stood at £55,000, the Juddmonte sire has since produced two Group 1 winners and is now a £150,000 cover.
(19:12)
Lot 162:
becomes the session's third seven-figure lot, selling for 2 million guineas. The filly by Frankel was bred by the Fleche D'Or Partnership and is a half-sister to 2015's European champion three-year-old colt Golden Horn, the Group 1 winner of the Epsom Derby, the Eclipse Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
It is another sale success for Norelands Stud and the mare – her 2018 colt, also by Frankel, sold for 3.1 million guineas last year bought by Godolphin. He is called Dhahabi and is trained by Charlie Appleby. He has run twice, winning once and finished runner-up in the Listed Denford Stakes.
"We were really in two minds whether to race her or sell her, we'd have been very happy to have raced her," said Harry McCalmont of Norelands Stud. "We were only going to sell her if we felt she fetching what we thought she was worth. If we had kept her to race she was going to John Gosden, so we thought we might as well bring her to Newmarket – if we didn't sell we could have taken her straight to Johns!"
McCalmont added: "We are delighted that Sheikh Mohammed has bought her, and delighted to see him here."
Fleche D'Or has a Sea The Stars filly foal at foot, and is in-foal to Kingman.
"We will definitely be keeping the foal this time, I know I said that last year about this one!" laughed McCalmont, who bought the mare Fleche D'Or from Hascombe and Valiant Stud at the 2012 Tattersalls December Sale for 62,000gns with BBA Ireland. She had produced Golden Horn earlier that spring. "It was not a bad purchase!" he laughed.
Matt Gilsenan, Norelands' stud manager, was a little more rueful as admitted he had been looking forward to racing this Frankel filly.
"She is an absolute queen, but it is all positive and a great result for the stud. Fleche D'Or is a magnificent mare and this filly looks the real deal."
(18:32)
Lot 148:
sold by Highclere Stud on behalf of breeder Cn Farm, the Zoffany half-brother to this year's Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde, makes 580,000gns. It is the best price given in the Tattersalls sale ring for a yearling by the sire, a son of Dansili.
James Cloney of Cn Farm bought the mare Entreat (Pivotal) here as a ten-year-old at the 2016 July Sale for 14,000gns with the help of BBA Ireland. She had been with Cheveley Park Stud and to that point Entreat had been covered by Dutch Art and Lethal Force, and was sold carrying a pregnancy to the latter – seven months later she gave birth to the colt who was to become Golden Horde.
"She had only really been exposed to one stallion," said Cloney. "We thought it would be worth trying something different. She has done it the hard way and really has shown the of her strong dam line and the line's superstars."
The mare's third dam is Imagining, dam of the champion Serena's Song, dam of the Group 1 winner Sophisticat, as well as ancestress of a host of black-type winners in Britain, Europe and the US.
Of the reasoning behind the Zoffany cover Cloney said: "I can't forget the Royal Ascot when he got those three winners – for a sire to do that is impressive. I really think he could be a sleeping giant ."
The first cover given by to Entreat in 2018 by Cloney was to Mehmas - the resulting colt sold last year and is now Line Of Departure, a three-time winner and rated 84.
Entreat has a Zoustar filly foal at foot.
Lady Carolyn Warren of Highclere Stud said: "She is a beautiful filly, I am delighted for James. It is a fantastic result for – what a mare she has been! And delighted for Paddy, who led her up and has prepared her at the family farm in Ireland. He has worked for us at Highclere and been a tremendous asset at the sales for us. It is great all around."
(18:10)
Lot 122:
the Galileo full-sister to Capri, the 2017 champion three-year-old stayer in Europe and winner of the Irish Derby and St Leger, and to the Group 3 winner Cypress Creek, and the Group 1-placed Passion, makes 850,000gns. She is bought by Kelsey Lupo buying for McCalmont Bloodstock.
"What is not to love about her!" smiled Lupo. "There is plenty of residual value for racing and then as a broodmare, plenty there – she is worth that all day. She will be racing in Europe and the client has horses in Europe, but is fairly new to racing. It is very exciting, a huge day for us."
Lupo, from New York, is currently based in London and is working in conjunction with Jamie McCalmont in a recent partnership. "There are some strong physicals here - it is great when the physicals match up the pages. My shortlist was not that short!" laugh Lupo.
From the family of Diamond Green, she was sold by Camas Park Stud. Two lots later the farm also sold Lot
124, a filly by Sea The Stars and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Desert Skyline. She is from another branch of the same family as Lot
122 and was bought by Westerberg for 500,000gns.
(16:53)
Lot 109:
becomes the new session-topper selling for 2,100,000gns.... and it is another seven-figure sale for Floors Stud from Attraction's family this time courtesy of the wonderful mare's daughter Cushion (Galileo). (See Lot
41 for the story on the colt by Frankel and out of Attraction, who fetched 1,100,000gns).
The bidding battle for today's Dubawi colt developed into a head to head between MV Magnier and Godolphin, both standing outside and placing bids with the spotters. The two battled all the way through the ranks until Anthony Stroud pushed too hard his opposition.
"This is a lovely horse, obviously by Dubawi," said Stroud. "He moves incredibly well, he is from a very good stud, and we collectively all really liked him. It just shows that when a very nice horse comes up to the ring, there are lots of good people there for them, they are collectors' items."
Stroud added: "It is so sad that the Duke is not here because he was a wonderful breeder, a wonderfully good friend, a wonderful enthusiast; he would have loved to have been here, and he's done a fantastic job. He is probably looking down."
It is the best-ever price achieved by Floors in the sale ring, topping the 1.6 million guineas sale of the 2015 Frankel colt out of Attraction. He was bought at this sale by Shadwell and was subsequently named Elarqam.
The Duchess of Roxburghe, taking well wishes from many of the assembled crowd, said: "This family means a huge amount to us, and Attraction is a an absolute heroine, we are all very emotionally attached to her. The Duke adored this Dubawi colt as a foal so I hope he is watching upstairs!
"My son George runs the stud with me, but he has a new job and was not able to be here today, which is a real shame. Ed [Sackville] has been a fantastic support and with Simon Marsh too, and all the team at Floors has been amazing, Chris [Gillon] and his team. Chris deserves a special mention, he has produced the horses to perfection, every single one of them. I was so pleased it was him leading up the colt today.
"I am thrilled for my late husband who did nothing but dream of Attraction and she has really done us proud. They were two really lovely horses, and they have been since they were foals. My husband always thought they were two of the best he had ever produced – and he has been proven right. We wish Anthony Stroud and the team all the success.
"I have spoken to George and he is sitting biting his desk, he is chuffed to bits! I watched in the ring and it is not quite as it is normally, but it was still very exciting and it was tear-jerking stuff. I had some really old dear friends were with me, and it was special to have them supporting me."
Ed Sackville, Floors bloodstock advisor, said: "It is a hell of a result, we are incredibly grateful to Anthony Stroud for buying him, and it is very nice to be standing back here again and talking, I hope it continues through the week! He is a very nice horse, by Dubawi who needs no introduction – a phenomenal sire who has just done amazingly and continues to deliver year after year.
"And he is out of a Galileo mare, who is a tremendous broodmare sire, and she is a daughter of Attraction so there is a hell of a pedigree to go with it, and Cushion was also a good racemare. Everything was in our favour, certainly on the pedigree, but we were also very lucky as he was also an outstanding individual and two high profile buyers decided to take each other on."
Since 2014, Floors Stud has sold five horse for a million guineas or more in the Tattersalls sale ring. The farm is currently today's leading consignor by average (1,083,333gns) and aggregate (3,250,000gns) for three horses sold and another three to offer.
(16:37)
Lot 89:
a 2019 foal pinhook by Yeomanstown Stud at €200,000 pays off – the Irish-based stud farm sells this bay daughter of Sea The Stars for 350,000gns to White Birch Farm and Demi O'Byrne.
The filly's dam Chicago Dancer has had one runner to date – Volkan Star, a three-year-old full-brother to this yearling. Trained by Charlie Appleby, the colt is the winner of three races and the holder of black-type having won the Prix du Lys (G3) and the Fairway Stakes (L) this year.
As a two-year-old Volkan Star finished fifth of sixth in the Group 3 Zetland Stakes - but, with the benefit of a year's onward racing, he was not at all disgraced. Those who finished in front of him then included Max Vega (subsequently second in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes), Miss Yoda (winner, Preis der Diana (G1)), Berkshire Rocco (second, St Leger Stakes (G1)) and Mythical (third, Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud).
(15:06)
Lot 68:

Bred by Kevin and Meta Cullen, the filly was pinhooked by Haras De Saint Pair for 105,000gns at the December Foal Sale.
Darley first-crop sire Profitable (Invincible Spirit), winner of the King's Stand Stakes (G1), has stood at Kildangan Stud throughout his career at €12,000.
(14:54)
Lot 66:
another by Juddmonte's leading sire Frankel catches plenty of bidders' eyes, but it the stallion farm itself that ended up the winning purchaser going to 450,000gns for this colt out of Blue Waltz (rated 100), sold by breeder Fittocks Stud.
The mare, a daughter of leading broodmare sire Pivotal, is a half-sister to the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes winner Fantasia, and the Give Thanks Stakes (G3) winner Pink Symphony. They are out of Blue Duster, the champion European two-year-old filly of 1995 and winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1).
Frankel is the current leading sire by aggregate - eight sold for 3,310,000gns, while Dubawi is heading the tables by average – two sold averaging 500,000gns.
The leading horses bred on the Frankel-Pivotal cross includes the four-time Group 1 winner Cracksman and Falmouth Stakes (G1) winner Veracious.
(14:40)
Lot 55:
Highland Reel's first-ever yearling sold at Tattersalls makes 320,000gns and was bought by McCalmont Bloodstock. The colt, sold by Highclere Stud, is a half-brother to this year's dual Group 1 winner Palace Pier, winner of the St James's Palace Stakes, as well as the Prix Jacques le Marois since the catalogue was printed.
Beach Frolic is a Nayef half-sister to the Group 2 winners Bonfire and Joviality.
Highland Reel, a son of Galileo, won seven Group and Grade 1 races around the world. This colt was bred from his starter fee of €17,500. He stood at €12,500 this spring.
(13:56)
Lot 53:
the first in the ring for the 2020 October Yearling Sale by Dubawi makes 520,000gns, bought by Godolphin. The April-born filly, consigned by Oakgrove Stud, is out of the Group 3 Prix de Psyche winner Be My Gal, bred on the successful cross of Dubawi and Galileo. She is from the family of Palacegate Episode and Dutch Art.
She isa Book 1 one-lot hit for Oakgrove Stud and stud manager David Hilton had a chat with us outside the filly's box.
"It is lot of money in a difficult market," he said. "She is an exceptional filly. Mr Deer [breeder and owner of Oakgrove] and the team are delighted she is going to a leading operation. Sheikh Mohammed's support in this industry as whole is very much appreciated."
Of the farm's targeted approach to Book 1, a satisfied Hilton smiled: "We try and pick a good yearling to come to this sale!"
Be My Gal was bred by Oakgrove and her dam Longing To Dance (Danehill Dancer), runner-up in the Flame Of Tara Stakes (L), is still on the farm. Be My Gal herself had a Kingman filly foal this year and has been rested for 2021.
She has had one runner Desert Palm, who has been placed, and who fetched 320,000gns here in 2018.
This year's leading horse Ghaiyyath and leading stallion Night Of Thunder are by Dubawi and out of Galileo mares.
(13:27)
Lot 41:
the Frankel colt out of the champion European two-year-old and champion Irish three-year-old filly Attraction, a five-time Group 1 winner, dual Guineas winner, and dam of stallion Fountain Of Youth and the Group 2 winner Elarqam, who is a full-brother to this yearling, makes 1.1 million guineas.
Attraction was bred by Floors Stud, a farm so successfully developed by the late Guy Innes-Ker, the 10th Duke of Roxburghe, and Chris Gillon, the Floors stud manager was at Tattersalls today to oversee the sale of this colt.
A stand-out on pedigree ahead of the sale, the good-looking colt certainly lived up to his pre-sale star billing.
"It's absolutely brilliant, absolutely fantastic," said Gillon, who has been stud manager at Floors for eight years. "We loved him as a foal and he came perfect all the way through his prep. He got down here and everything went so well. He is a beautiful-looking colt. He never stopped [viewings] and so popular with everyone. Just to see him go through the ring and do that – it is the icing on the cake.
"The late Duke saw him as a foal and he loved him and thought he was the best yet that Attraction had had, but for the colt to come here and do exactly that – the Duke will be up there smiling, that's for sure. It is brilliant for everyone involved, the late Duke, the Duchess, everyone, it is brilliant and we couldn't ask for any more."
An understandably emotional Duchess of Roxburghe said: "He is such a lovely colt, we are thrilled. He has such an easy temperament, and taken it all in his stride, and we are delighted as would my late husband be."
Bloodstock advisor Ed Sackville added: "That was absolutely amazing, we are all delighted. We are very grateful for the support from the buyer and hope the horse is lucky – as lucky as Elarqam has been for Shadwell. There was plenty of interest from all the big players, but you never know what to expect. Chris and his team have done a brilliant job.
"This is a lovely horse and has been since he was a foal. Let's hope he is as successful on the track."
(13:19)
Lot 36:
Anthony Stroud, from outside the ring, buys a second lot today by Frankel, on behalf of Godolphin going to 480,000gns to secure the colt out of the Oasis Dream mare As Good As Gold, bred and sold by Newsells Park Stud.
He is closely related to Eminent, also by Frankel and winner of the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano (G2) and the Craven Stakes (G3). He was also placed three times including when second in the Rawson Stakes (G1) at Rosehill and third in Irish Champion Stakes (G1).
"We loved this horse very much. He is by a very good stallion, he comes from a very good hotel and is very athletic," said Stroud. "Things are a bit different here, but at least we are all here with a sales and doing business."
The mare's Lope De Vega two-year-old of this year, who fetched 350,000gns at this sale last October, has been named Golden Lyric and has been placed once from one start.
David Redvers was underbidder.
(12:47)
Lot 32:
the gorgeous looking Kingman sells for 350,000gns.
Out of an Arch full-sister to the Grade 1 winner Prince Arch and a half-sister the National Stakes (G1) winner Kingsfort, is bought by trainer Kevin Ryan.
Ryan's son Adam reported: "A lovely horse, he is very athletic and by the right sire, a cracking sire. We loved the horse and we are delighted to have secured him."
The colt is a half-brother to two winners, the only runners so far for the unraced mare Archangel Gabriel and was sold by Kilminfoyle House Stud, the bidding having opened up at 100,000gns.
(12:31)
Lot 22:
returns six-figure profit for pinhook consignor Manister House Stud.
The Iffraaj colt, bred by Barronstown House Stud, was bought by Luke Barry's Manister House here at last year's Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 110,000gns. Today the farm sold the February-born colt to US agent Ben McElvoy for 250,000gns.
"He was an outstanding horse, if you watch his video or saw him in the flesh," said consignor Barry. "We bought an outstanding foal and he came back an outstanding horse. In this market anyone is delighted to get profit, but this individual sold himself. When they walk like he does; he looks very forward and is a big forward horse and one to kick one with. We had a lot of interest, he sold himself."
The colt is a half-brother to an eight-time winner in France. He is out of an unraced Dansili half-sister to EP Taylor Stakes (G1) and Ribblesdale Stakes (G2) winner Curvy and to Power, who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas (G1), the National Stakes (G1) and the Coventry Stakes (G2). It is the further family of the sires Footstepsinthesand and PedroThe Great.
Manister has seven lots catalogued this week, and Iffraaj 13.
(12:14)
Lot 19:
US bloodstock agent Mike Ryan hits the buyers' board and goes to 160,000gns for the daughter of Frankel sold by Genesis Green Stud.
Aside from her illustrious sire, Ryan had a certain reason to be interested in this filly – he purchased her Invincible Spirit half-sister here last year for 200,000gns. Named Invincible Gal, she is now a winner since the catalogue was published, and has also twice finished second – in the Selima Stakes at Pimlico and Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park.
Ryan signed for ten lots at last year's Book 1 Sale.
(11:54)
Lot 7 and Lot 11:
two by Frankel start to climb the numbers.
Anthony Stroud Bloodstock gets a first strike at this year's Book 1 sale going to 280,000gns for a chestnut colt by the Juddmonte sire and sold by Ballylinch Stud (Lot
7). He is out of the More Than Ready mare Zindaya, winner of the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes and a half-sister to Western Aristocrat, winner of the Jamaica Handicap (G1). The colt was bred by Fifth Avenue Bloodstock.
Frankel's filly out of the Fillies Mile (G1) placed Agnes Stewart (Lawman) goes a step further fetching 300,000gns, signed for by North Hills. Team Varian was involved in the bidding for Lot
11.
The filly was sold by Ballyhane Stud acting on behalf of breeder Steve Parkin's Branton Court Stud.

Lot 2:
A fine start to Book 1 for Hillwood Stud, the farm sells its Lope De Vega colt filly out of Yarrow for 220,000gns. Peter Brant's White Birch Farm is listed as purchaser – and of course the owner enjoyed such a good last weekend as part-owner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sottsass (Siyouni), who has since been retired to stand at Coolmore.
The Ballylinch Stud sire Lope De Vega covered Yarrow (Sea The Stars) off a fee of €60,000 in 2018 – he has since had a fee increase to €100,000. The stallion has 37 lots catalogued in Book 1.
Yarrow comes from the Ballymacoll Stud-bred family of Golan and Tartan Bearer. She was bought at Tattersalls by Hillwood, which has a draft of 11 in the this week's catalogue, when the Irish-based farm dispersed its stock in 2017.

Chairman’s Statement:
At the conclusion of the inaugural Tattersalls August Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“Another post-COVID Tattersalls sale with a clearance rate around the 90% mark has to be regarded as a success. We made the observation after the recent Tattersalls July Sale that this sort of clearance rate would be noteworthy under normal circumstances, but in the face of the multiple challenges that everyone currently faces these sort of returns are little short of miraculous.
“From the Tattersalls perspective we salute all those who have supported this new fixture and made it such a success. Vendors, purchasers, vets, farriers, stable staff, the list is endless and everyone, whatever their role, has worked incredibly hard to ensure the smooth running not only of this week’s August Sale, but of all our recent sales.
“In addition to the extraordinary clearance rate, the other notable feature of the August Sale has been the huge impact of our recently introduced live internet bidding facility, which is particularly well-suited to sales of this nature. From start to finish there has been sustained internet bidding from throughout the world at all levels of the market and it has been fantastic to see this technology being so quickly and widely embraced. It certainly bodes well for the forthcoming sales at Park Paddocks and we will continue to ensure that the platform is as simple and easy to use as possible.
“Naturally there has been plenty of discussion about whether this new August Sale will become a more permanent Tattersalls fixture and the success of this week has certainly demonstrated enthusiasm from vendors and purchasers alike. In a normal year there would be a major yearling sale taking place this week, but we will see how the rest of the Tattersalls sales season unfolds, have a look at the calendar and assess how best to proceed once we have a clearer picture."

Lot 761:
still the prices making in excess of 50,000gns – the three-year-old Night Bear by Dragon Pulse from Machell Place Stables (E. Vaughan) makes 65,000gns bought by agent JD Moore.
Last time out the colt finished sixth behind To Nathaniel, today's second-best lot, over 1m4f at Newmarket in August, having won and finished second and third in his previous starts this spring over a mile, 1m2f and 1m6f.
He was purchased as a yearling at the October Book 3 Sale from Nicola Kent Bloodstock by Rabbah Bloodstock for 25,000gns.
(18:16)
Lot 731:
Bond's Boy, by Monsieur Bond and out of Blades Girl from the Richard Fahey draft, is bought by Jeremiah McGrath for 77,000gns. The three-year-old colt has run four times and not finished out of the first four places. He is now rated 90 and has run over 6f and 7f. He finished third in last autumn's £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes
(17:30)
Ted Voute,
via telephone call, reported on his four purchases this week, which included the sale's top three lots (Lot
699, Lot
682, Lot
711) as well as Lot
687.
"They fit the profile and have all been bought for a new stud company called Najd Stud Ltd, which is based in Riyadh. They will ship immediately, as soon as the next flight is available," he said.
Explaining the process ahead of bidding online, Voute said: "We vetted a whole slew of them and then I came up to Tattersalls yesterday, looked at all the horses who made the short, short list.
"And we said we'd do it on the internet. It was very easy to do, I registered at the beginning of the week, it has been great. There was no need to be up there today."
When asked if he felt he missed out anything by not being in the sales ring, he added: "For form horses it is perhaps slightly different, it is there for everyone to see – other than taking a lame step in the ring prior, but we had a vet there to cover that eventuality, the same vet who has vetted them all."
Expanding on the purchase plans, the team of four are to be aimed initially at the King's Cup races rather than the big international Saudi Cup meeting. Voute said: "They have been bought for King's Cup races and series. The Saudi Cup day needs very good international horses, not that these aren't good horses, and they might develop into the that if they act on the surface."
Of the timing of this inaugural August Sale, Voute said: "The timing fits in for shipping. I have been involved in other operations when we have taken horses out of the October Sale and it has been a bit tight to get them to perform at the highest level that very next year or next season.
"We felt that if we could just steal a month or two months to get them there and acclimatise, it might make the difference. When we have bought horses privately before and sent horses over a bit earlier we have had a bit more success."
Voute used the example of Mjjack, whom he purchased at the 2018 Tattersalls October Horses in Training for 260,000gns. He did not run in Saudi Arabia until October 2019, but won four races on the bounce last autumn before finishing eighth in this spring's Saudi Cup.
(16:58)
Lot 711:
Voute Sales buys again online... this time going to 180,000gns for Tell Me All, a Lope De Vega gelding from Heath House Stables. The three-year-old has a similar profile to Voute's earlier purchases – he has form over 1m2f, is rated 88 and has good recent form.
Voute has bought the sales's current top three lots.
(16:15)
Lot 699:
we get another new sale top lot, with the talented and highly rated Walkinthesand fetching 220,000gns, the first to break the 200,000gns barrier, bought by Voute Sales online.
The bay colt, offered as part of the final East Everleigh draft, is rated 105. He ran sixth last time out in the 1m2f Unibet You're On Handicap, 1m2f run on good ground at Goodwood, and fifth in his previous outing in the bet365 Steventon Stakes (L), again over 1m2f.
As a three-year-old he picked up placed Listed form as well as a fourth placing in the Superior Stakes (G3).
(15:57)
Lot 682, Lot 683 and Lot 684:
the draft from Clarehaven Stables proves to be very popular – and Lot
682, To Nathaniel, becomes sells for 185,000gns to Voute Sales via the online bidding platform.
Bred and owned by George Strawbridge, as the name suggests To Nathaniel is by Nathaniel. The three-year-old has won this summer on August 15 and on June 1 , handicap wins coming over 1m3f and 1m4f and off BHA marks of 84 and 85.
Voute Sales followed-up five lots later bidding to 65,000gns for Lot
687, Kasbaan (Dansili), a 92-rated miler from Michael Appleby's yard and sold by Jamie Railton.
Celestran (Lot
683) made 85,000gns bought by Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland.
"He is for Sultan Al Mandeel from Saudi," said Donohoe. "Dansili has done well in the region, the pedigree should suit, he gets 1m2f – he has the profile to do well."
Stephen Thorne's Shamrock Thoroughbreds goes to 50,000gns for Godhead (Charm Spirit). Rated 93, the four-year-old finished third in the Bunbury Cup last time out.
(15:24)
Lot 672:
Maqtal, a 2017 bay gelding by Distorted Humor, sold by Shadwell Stud makes 67,000gns.
The three-year-old is on a career high BHA rating of 85 having won over 1m2f at Doncaster in July and following up with a sixth placing at Chelmsford in August for trainer Roger Varian and owner-breeder Hamdan Al Maktoum.
(15:10)
Lot 645:
Buffer Zone, a son of Bated Breath, makes 125,000gns, our top price so far today and the second top price at the sales so far. Buffer Zone was bought by Fawzi Nass with Oliver St Lawrence, who also bought the top-priced Swindler yesterday for 150,000gns.
The five-year-old gelding has been placed at Group 2 level and has finished third at Listed level this season. He is rated 107.
"He has good form and should appreciate the faster ground in Bahrain," said Nass. "He will be based in Bahrain, but we hope he can run in Dubai and Saudi. I think there is a lack of sprinters in the region at the moment."
Buffer Zone was sold by Ger Lyons's Glenburnie Stables, and Nass added: "We certainly are not thinking that would improve on the previous trainer, we will just hope to maintain the form!"
(14:11)
Lot 608:
Returnofthemac (Swiss Spirit) is heading to Bahrain, bought by Sheikh Sultan, owner of this year's Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde.
"He is tough, hardy, goes on fast ground and has good recent form. He is a very good individual. He came recommended by his former trainer," said NH jockey Jerry McGrath, who is working alongside and helping out Sheikh Sultan's buying team this week.
That former trainer is David O'Meara. The three-year-old has run four times this year – winning once (over a mile at Pontefract) and has finished second three times, stepping up to 1m2f last time out. He is on a career high mark of 81.
(12:55)
Lot 604:
"We have been looking for a three-year-old to send to Gary Moore all summer," said Dave Crosse after buying Jalwan from John Butler's Charnwood Stables draft for the Noel Fehily Racing Syndicates.
"He will go back to Noel's [Fehily] from here and have a break, though Noel will keep riding him and teach him to jump. He'll got to Gary's at the end of the summer – shares are for sale!"
Jalwan is yet to win, but he has finished in the first four on seven of his eight racecourse starts. He is rated 76 on the Flat and has form over a mile.
(12:44)
Lot 576:
Camouflaged is going from Mark Johnston's Middleham yard to Charlie Mann's Lambourn yard and a future career over hurdles.
"He is the horse I came to buy, the only one I came for, he is a stand-out for me," said Mann. "It was a lot of money for a horse rated 76, but he stays well, and has acted on good to firm and soft. He ran just in Friday so will have a couple of weeks break and then get back to work. He'll get 2m and further over hurdles."
Camouflaged, rated 76, finished third over 2m at Chester last week having previously achieved two placed efforts over 1m6f this summer and a win over 1m4f at Chepstow in July.
"He is for a new owner Johnny Mayo who has three nice horses with me," added Mann.
Camouflaged is a half-brother to four winners inc the Group 1 winner Royal Marine, and his Singspiel dam is a half-sister to Group 1 milers Librettist and Dubai Destination.
(11:48)
Lot 568:
trainer Roger Fell spends 60,000gns on End Zone (Dark Angel) on behalf of Middleham Park Racing.
"We will get him home and get on and run him," said Fell. "He won last time and has put in some good sections – he should go on. He has a good Timeform rating."
He was sold by Jamie Railton on behalf of Qatar Racing and trainer David Simcock.
(11:17)
Lot 553:
the Oasis Dream gelding Huwaiteb fetches 23,000gns. Offered by Shadwell Stud, the three-year-old gelding has been in training with Owen Burrows and finished second last time at Haydock.
(10:52)
Lot 543:
"We'll get him home and take a view, I might run him back on the Flat, but he has been bought as a dual-purpose type," said Tamaris's buyer trainer Gary Moore.
The Dansili colt was offered by Beckhampton House Stables and was a winner last time out over 1m6f at Wolverhampton. Bred by Al Shahania Stud, he is a half-brother to the Group 3-placed Pivoine (Redoute's Choice).
