Lot 1052: Urban Icon, the four-year-old son of Cityscape, trained by Richard Hannon, becomes this year's sale new top lot when selling to Ted Voute for 320,000gns. Voute purchased the colt on behalf of the newly developed Saudia Arabian-based racing and bloodstock operation, Najd Stud. He placed just two bids, taking instructions via face time!

"He is big and robust and stand a lot of training out there, he was my pick of the day," said Voute. "He is a tough and consistent sort and he will go on quicker ground. He will ship out to Saudi and we can see how he acclimatises and adjusts before any plans are made, however the ideal plan would be to do the normal route through the Cup races and then see if he will be good enough for the big Saudi international day."

Voute purchased five horses for Najd at this year's inaugural August Horses In Training Sale – they have all shipped to the Middle East, and have settled well into their training regimes, though none have run as yet.

Urban Icon was bred by Minster Stud and sold as a yearling at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Sale fetching £23,000, bought by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock.

He won his first two starts as a two-year-old. He was put away for his three-year-old career reappearing in the Greenham Stakes (G3) where he finished third to this year's Sussex Stakes (G1) winner Mohaather. He then ran eighth to Magna Grecia in the 2,000 Guineas of 2019. Urban Icon did not win as a three-year-old – his next win coming first time out as a four-year-old in a handicap on the All-Weather, winning off 108.

Through the rest of this summer he has put in consistent efforts in high-level handicaps and stakes races, last time out finishing fourth in the Park Stakes (G2) behind the ill-fated Wichita. (16:22)

Lot 965 and Lot 967: two from the Roger Varian Carlburg Stables draft catch the buying eyes .... Lot 965, Emirates Knight (Dark Angel ex Interim Payment (Red Ransom)), is bought by Al Sharq Racing for 50,000gns, while Motamayiz (Charm Spirit ex Chanterelle (Trempolino)) goes to Larry Stratton for 42,000gns.

Emirates Knight is four-year-old dual winner and finished second last tine out at Kempton over 1m3f. In 16 starts, he has hardly ever finished out of the placings and is particularly suited by the All-Weather.

Motamayiz has won three times over a similar trip. His last win came at Bath in September off a mark of 76. A progressive type, he is now rated 80. (14:30)

Lot 961: "He has been bought to go Venetia [Williams]," said Matt Coleman after buying Natty Night, a four-year-old by Nathaniel for 55,000gns from William Muir's Linkslade Stables.

"He is one we identified a week or so," continued Coleman. "He is relentless galloper, he is tough and really fights back in his races, I have been following him for some time. He seems to go on all sorts of ground. Nathaniel has also had a couple of Cheltenham Festival winners."

Natty Night has run 17 times, won three times (including last time out over 1m4f) and finished in the places on five occasions. He has won over £28,000 in earnings, and is on a career-high BHA mark of 82.

The 55,000gns mark was also matched with the subsequent lot – the Slade Power four-year-old Jack's Point bought by T Clover / J S Bloodstock (Lot 962). A high-class sprinter, he is rated 98 and his best performances include placings in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Ascot and the Listed Prix Zeddaan. (13:31)

Lot 928: the three-year-old filly Roodica also hails from one of the most current families in the book – she is out of Roodle and is a half-sister to the Queen Anne Stakes (G1) winner Accidental Agent. (Delegator).

Roodle is a Xaar half-sister to Mohaather (Showcasing), winner of this year's Sussex Stakes (G1) and a new Shadwell stallion for 2021.

Roodica is by Due Diligence. She is unraced and was bought today by Oliver St Lawrence from Eve Johnson Houghton's Woodway Stables for 62,000gns. (12:43)

Lot 912: Festival Day has been bought by Flaxman Stables Ireland as a breeding prospect. The Dubawi three-year-old filly, a winner at two, is well-known to breeding organisation – she is grand-daughter of their champion Miesque.

Martin Buick, who works in London for the group, signed for the filly from the gangway and alongside Electra Niarchos.

"Festival Day is from one of the best pedigrees in the stud book,"said Buick. "The Niarchos family wished to get back into the family, Miesque as the second dam clearly had talent as a racehorse and this filly stood out for us here. She is a nice filly.

"The family speaks for itself, it keeps reproducing and we have the mare. Festival Day has been bought to go to Ulysses."

Dam Ama (Storm Cat) was sold to John Ferguson as a three-year-old in 2007, bought back by Flaxman Stables ten years later. Subsequently, Lunar Maria, her 2015 filly by Dubawi, a full-sister to Festival Day, won at Listed level in Germany for Godolphin. Ama has a 2019 foal by Ulysses.

Ulysses, a son of Galileo and out of the Oaks winner Light Shift, was bred and raced by Flaxman Stables. He took European championship honours in 2017 as a four-year-old after winning the Eclipse Stakes (G1) and the Juddmonte International (G1).

Cheveley Park Stud bought into the stallion in 2017 and he has stood at the Thompson's Newmarket farm for his three seasons at stud so far.

His first crops are yearlings of 2020 – the 24 lots offered here at the October Yearling Sale sold for an average price of 70,729gns and a top price of 320,000gns. (12:26)

Lot 880: Dutch Schultz (Golden Horn), offered by Ralph Beckett's Kimpton Down Stables, makes 57,000gns bought by JD Moore / Noel Monaghan.

"He is for a new client and going to Gavin Cromwell to go jumping," said Moore. "He is a lovely scopey type that has needed a bit of time. Ralph recommended him – he was with my Dad the year he was champion trainer so we go back a bit!"

Dutch Schultz has run twice and finished third and second in novice and maiden races at Bath and Newbury.

Golden Horn has has one go jumping so far - Topkapi Star, who is a winner of a juvenile hurdle at Uttoxeter for trainer Amy Murphy. (11:16)

Lot 838: Serengeti Star, a 2017 filly by Teofilo out of Shawanda (Sinndar), is sold by Kingsley Park for Godolphin. She is bought by Tally-Ho Stud for 32,000gns.

She has only run once but boasts a strong black-type pedigree – she is out Shawanda, winner of the Irish Oaks (G1), the Prix Vermeille (G1) and the Prix de Royaumont (G1), and dam of Encke (Kingmambo), winner of the St Leger and a European champion three-year-old stayer, and Genius Beast (Kingmambo), winner of the Classic Trial (G3) at Sandown. She has a 2019 colt by Dubawi. (10:15)

Lot 770: bought at the October Book 2 Sale in 2018 from breeder Castlefarm Stud by Jeremy Brummitt for 20,000gns, King's Charisma returns to the Tattersalls sale ring today and fetches 150,000gns more.... he is sold by David O'Meara Racing Ltd to Australian Bloodstock / Ronald Rauscher for 170,000gns.

The Teofilo three-year-old gelding has really found his hooves this year – in four runs as a juvenile his best placed finish was a third placing. This year he won his first three starts, picking up wins at Redcar, Haydock and Thirsk off BHA marks of 65, 71 and 77 and over 1m2f (twice) and 1m4f.

He then went on to finish seventh at York and third twice over 1m6f at Haydock and York off increased BHA marks of 83 and 84. He is now rated 86.

Australian Bloodstock / Ronald Rauscher have bought three lots for an average price of 106,667gns and an aggregate spend of 320,000gns. (19:11)

Lot 746B: bought for just £4,800 at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Yearling Sale in 2019 by Five Star Bloodstock, and then withdrawn from the Goresbridge Breeze up Sale in July by consignor Adrian Costello of Clenagh Castle Stud, Ascot Adventure makes his sale date tonight as a wildcard.

Subsequent to that breeze up sale non-appearance, the colt has been in training with Adrian Slattery at Meadowview Stables and he ran at Cork on September 29 – that debut effort was a fine winning one, the Mayson colt winning over the 5f trip with ease.

Post-race Slattery said: "He did a good piece of work at the Curragh last Wednesday. Andrew couldn't ride him [then] because he was at Doncaster and he had the chance to ride Aidan Fogarty's runner [today] but I told him this horse would win. We had him early on in the year and liked him. He was just getting niggly problems and was a little bit weak but he's really after coming to hand. Being by Mayson, we were a little bit worried about the quick ground, but he's just a good horse I'd say."

Today he was bought by Woodhurst Construction for 150,000gns with a 2021 campaign in mind.

"He is a very nice two-year-old. He won his maiden well and we think he will make a really nice sprinter, he is just a lovely horse. We wanted a two-year-old to go forward into next year," said John Fitzpatrick, who with Kevin Bailey, is putting together an ownership syndicate.

"He has a bit of size about him as well so there is some improvement as he grows and that is what you want," explained Bailey, adding: "We'll give him a break now, come back again next year and go to war!"

The two guys, standing with trainer Roger Fell, are looking forward to a winter making plans and plots for their new horse. Bailey will be hoping the new purchase could go some way to emulating the achievements of the best horse he has been involved with. That was Presvis – he was trained by Luca Cumani, won £4,318,943 in earnings and eight races, including Group 1 and Group 2 races in Hong Kong, Dubai and Singapore.

**Bailey was also keen to ensure that his business Woodhurst Construction, based at Potters Bar, got a name check.... here you go Kevin! (18:57)

Lot 721: Oliver St Lawrence spends 160,000gns on Glen Force (Gleneagles) from the Sir Mark Prescott's Heath House Stables draft.

"He is for Fawzi Nass, and will probably go to Bahrain," said St Lawrence, who added: "He came highly recommended by his previous trainer – we have horses with him so if he has put us away he'll be for the high jump!" 😉

The three-year-old colt is a two-time winner from nine starts. He started his handicapping career on his three-year-old debut in June off a mark of 79 (at that point only two runs were needed to qualify for a BHA mark).

He has since run seven times, picked up the two wins and never finished out of the first three, yet his handicap mark has been raised only to 85. His last time out win came over 1m2f, the first time he had stretch to ten furlongs. (17:46)

Lot 714: John Walsh Bloodstock buys the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes winner Nobel Prize as a stallion prospect for 170,000gns. The three-year-old colt is by Galileo and out of the Group 1 winner Hveger (Danehill). She is dam of the Group 1 winners Highland Reel and Cape Of Good Hope, the Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Idaho, and the Group 1 placed Valdemoro.

The second dam Circles Of Gold was also a Group 1 and multiple Group class winner, and is dam of the champion Elvstroem and Haradasun.

"He has got an international pedigree it goes everywhere – the Galileo / Danehill is same cross as Frankel," said Walsh, who purchased on behalf of a client to stand the horse at stud. "The next stop is the English National Stud prior to export so we will see where he goes from there, there has been plenty of interest in him from various countries. My client has pursued him for a while."

Of retiring the horse from a racing career, Walsh added: "He has done what he can do, it is hard to improve that pedigree!" (17:38)

Lot 664, Lot 668 and Lot 697 are all bought by John Ferguson on behalf of leading Australian trainer Chris Waller. Southern hemisphere-based bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster is usually in charge of purchasing for the stable and is a well-known face in Newmarket when in the area for the Autumn Horses In Training Sale, but has not travelled to Britain this year.

"Chris is after horses with good recent form and a good rating," said Ferguson.

Desert Icon (Lot 664) certainly meets that criteria – he finished third in the Listed Foundation Stakes last time and is rated 104. He is the most expensive of the trio and is current second top price at this year's sale having been bought for 210,000gns.

Lot 668, Born A King (Frankel), who was bought for 120,000gns, finished second on October 1 at Chelmsford having won at Lingfield in mid-September.

Lot 697, Crystal Pegasus (Australia), is rated 98 and won a Class 3 at Yarmouth in September.

The first two were sold by William Haggas's Somerville Lodge, while the third was sold by Sir Michael Stoute's Freemason Lodge Stables. (16:40)

Lot 692: the final lot in the ring today from the Haggas draft is Royal Address – a two-year-old filly by Dandy Man and already boasting winning black-type, the filly successful in the Listed 5f Criterium de Vitesse at Chantilly.

She fetched 170,000gns and was a third purchase so far at this year's sale by Narvick International, the sale's current leading purchaser by aggregate.

"She is for [owner-breeder] Marsha Naify and goes to California," said Emmanuel de Seroux. "She is a beautiful filly, athletic, sound, she should do well in California – she looks to have speed. She will be a future breeding prospect – once she has won a Grade1 !" (16:38)

Lot 675: the Somerville Lodge draft continues to draw attention, and Piranesi goes to Jane Chapple-Hyam for 300,000gns, and is the current sale topper.

Bids came from all around the ring for the good-looking son of Zoffany, and those involved included Ted Voute, Ed Dunlop, and Ronald Rauscher, but it was Chapple-Hyam, standing in the stair well, who was successful.

"I am just the caretaker trainer!' she said, explaining, "He has been bought by my client to go overseas and will go straight abroad. The client and I work together. Very happy to get the horse – he is a very good looking horse, there is some improvement. He appealed to the client." (16:17)

Lot 623: Armando Duarte with Ballymore Stables Australia / Paul Moroney Bloodstock go to 200,000gns to secure Keats, the Listed winner of the Navigation Stakes and twice Listed race placed.

The three-year-colt by Galileo, sent to Newmarket from Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle Stables, is heading to Australia to be trained by Mike Moroney at Flemington racecourse. Usually his brother Paul would be in Newmarket in charge of purchasing the horses in training to ship Down Under for the stable, but 2020 has made travel impossible, and Duarte has been entrusted by the brothers with the sale purchasing.

"This horse was our pick of the sale," said Duarte. "We think he might make up onto a top miler or might stay ten furlongs. Normally we are looking for a stayer, but this horse could be a miler.

"He has been very highly recommended by Mick Flanagan, who works closely with Coolmore Australia. It was perhaps more than we wanted price-wise, but we think we have got a nice horse and one for the future."

Duarte, who managed to buy Keats on just one bid, explains: "I tried to bid at 130,000gns, but someone beat me at 135,000gns so I said, 'I am out!'. Mike was on the phone to Paul on the other line and said, 'Go one more', it worked and we got him on the one bid."

Bloodstock agent Paul Moroney has spent a lot of time in Newmarket and the northern hemisphere, and Duarte explained how the cross-hemisphere buying relationship for this sale has developed.

"Myself and Paul have known each other for about 15 years, we are good friends and the working relationship has been growing and growing, and this year it has worked in my favour as he is not able to be here," said Duarte, adding: "Paul is in quarantine in Australia having moved to the Gold Coast for the sales. He is making his way back in a caravan to Melbourne where he is based, but it is in lock-down.

"I know exactly what Paul likes and what he does not like so we work well together. I video every single thing which may be a fault and, if he finds something and he says, 'Armando what about this?', then I go back and video again and video again until we make sure we are right. That is why we work together."

Keats has a fine pedigree – he is out of the 2002 champion three-year-old filly, Airwave. She is dam and ancestress of the black-type winners Aloof, Orator and Meow, who is the dam of Churchill, Clemmie and Blenheim Place. (15:33)

Lot 627: Party Season (American Pharoah), from the Aidan O'Bien Ballydoyle Stables draft, sells for 160,000gns, bought by Narvick International's Emmanuel de Seroux. The three-year-old has run three times and won at Dundalk on October 23 over 1m2f..

After the race, jockey Seamie Heffernan said to the Racing Post: "Soft ground has been catching him out and he's immature. He has plenty of boot and that's probably as far as he's going to go. He's going to the sales and he'll be a good ride in Group races next year."

After his purchase today, de Seroux said: "He won nicely last weekend, and he could be horse who could switch to Dirt, he started his career on Turf and has been much improved since switching to the All-Weather. Possibly he may go to the US, but like the horse bought yesterday, we have not yet decided. We love American Pharoah and we bought some nice ones last year."

Bred by Mrs Gerald A Nielsen, the colt is a half-brother to Upstart, a multiple graded stakes winner and placed performer in the US. (14:54)

Lot 597: bloodstock agent Alastair Donald reported that this son of Muhaarar is to continue his racing career in Bahrain.

"A good solid, straight-forward looking horse, I think he is the best-looking horse here, with consistent and progressive form," said Donald, who spent 110,000gns on fulfilling his client's order. "I think he was good value for a 104 Timeform rated gelding, and he should do well on fast ground in Bahrain.

Byline has been trained by Kevin Ryan and this year the gelding taken his rating forward from a BHA mark of 87 to 95, along the way collecting a win (the second of his career) at Leicester over 6f in August. (14:03)

Lot 591: the Listed-placed Prince Of Naples (Holy Roman Emperor) is bought by John Egan signing for Alliance Bloodstock / MKAR Racing at 120,000gns.

"He is for a long-standing client, he is not 100 per cent sure what his plans are yet, he might keep the horse here or go to Dubai," said Egan. "I loved the horse, he is a bonny horse.

"I had a long chat with the current trainer Sheila Lavery, and I have a lot of respect for her, everything added up, got to buy them when you like them like that. This was an opportunity to buy a horse like this and have a crack."

Bred by Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd, Prince Of Naples is rated 95 and has been consistently been rated over 90 since the September of his two-year-old career. (13:56)

Lot 570: Bellatrixsa, a winner at Newcastle over 2m since the catalogue was published, is bought by Alex Elliott for 80,000gns. The three-year-old daughter of Gregorian, trained by Michael Dods, did not run at two and after her sixth placing on her three-year-old debut has not finished out of the placings, improving all summer as she has stepped up in trip to collect her race win.

She was bred by Rathasker Stud, which stands the sire, and owned in training by Theresa Burns (13:24)

Lot 554: the high-class sprinter Dubai Station, the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes winner and Norfolk Stakes (G3) third, sells for 150,000gns. He was bought by trainer Robert Cowell for Middleham Park Racing, this son of Brazen Beau the first horse the syndicate has had with Cowell.

"This is a plan we have been putting together for two or three months," said Cowell. "He is a very good-looking horse with not many miles on the clock. We wanted to buy a quality horse and Dubai Station could run in high-class sprint handicaps or stakes races, there are options. We can have a glass of wine and a chat to make plans.

"I am really pleased to be working with Middleham Park and am looking forward to 2021!"

Last time out the three-year-old ran fifth at Goodwood in the Group 2 King George Stakes, behind none other than Baattash. He is rated 108. (13:15)

Lot 522: Herman Hesse, a winner at Nottingham over 1m6f on his penultimate start, is heading Down Under, bought by Ronald Rauscher and Australia Bloodstock.

"I liked him a lot, he seems very straightforward, a strong horse," said Rauscher. "I am surprised he was so popular as he is inbred to Danehill which sometimes puts people off."

By Frankel, Herman Hesse, who is now rated 85, is out of the Dansili mare Dream Peace, winner of the Prix de la Nonette (G2) and runner-up and third placed on a number of occasions in Grade 1s in the US.

Her dam is the Grade 2 E P Taylor Stakes winner Truly A Dream, dam of the Group 1 French Guineas runner-up Catcher In The Rye. It is the family of Wareed, Honolulu, US Army Ranger and Nelson. (12:16)

Lot 494 and Lot 499: are both purchased by Highflyer Bloodstock, but the two new purchases have very differing plans.

"He is lovely stamp of a horse," said Anthony Bromley after going to 55,000gns for The Cincinnati Kid (Lot 494), sold by East Everleigh Stables.

Bromley added: "He won nicely on Saturday at Chelmsford and has come out of the race well. He goes to new clients with Alan King. He should make up into a lovely dual-purpose type."

By Charm Spirit, The Cincinnati Kid gained that first career win last weekend over 1m6f. He has shown form previously on soft ground.

Bromley then quickly followed up purchasing Mark Of The Man (Lot 499) for 75,000gns from the same draft. There is a different plan for this son of Markaz.

"I bought Fiji [Lot 264] yesterday for Australian trainer Aaron Purcell and this horse is also for him. He is a nice type, he is rated 90 and we decided that, as it is so difficult to buy a staying type as a three-year-old, we would buy a staying two-year-old!"

Mark Of The Man won twice this summer over 7f (Chepstow and Goodwood) and in September stepped up to running over a mile, finishing third on his last start in a good Newmarket nursery off a mark of 91 and carrying top weight.

Lot 456: Sam Haggas of Hurworth Bloodstock goes to 32,000gns for Hilarity (Twilight Son ex Light Hearted (Green Desert)). The two-year-old filly was sold by Karl Burke's Spigot Lodge Stables, and is the winner of one race from five starts. Last time out she finished second at Newcastle over7f and she is qualified for the Great British Bonus.

Dam Light Hearted is out of the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) winner Gay Gallanta and is a full-sister to the dual Group 2 winner Byron. (11:11)

Lot 418: the very last lot in the ring today produces a very nice profitable result for trainer John Butler and owner Miss Cleo McGregor

Butler bought Minsky as an a once-raced two-year-old from Joseph O'Brien at the inaugural Tattersalls August Horses In Training Sale for just 4,000gns. Butler ran the horse twice in September – first at Wolverhampton where the gelding finished fourth and then at Yarmouth where the horse was successful in a 6f novice.

Alastair Donald of SackvilleDonald obviously liked what he saw – the form has already backed up as Razor Glass, second at Yarmouth, is already a subsequent winner.

Donald, buying on behalf of Red Baron's Barn & Rancho Temescal, came back in the ring for this very last lot bidding to 60,000gns. It was a second purchase for the US owner by Donald today – he topped and tailed the day as the first purchase was Lot 35, Mahaamel, a two-year-old by Belardo. (20:41)

Lot 366: owner HE Sultan Aldeen MS Al-Khalifa enjoyed a day of days this summer when Golden Horde won the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot – tonight the owner goes to 68,000gns to buy Caledonian Crusade (Gleneagles ex Convocate (Exchange Rate)) from David Simcock's Trillium Place Stables.

The three-year-old grey gelding has run eight times, won once and placed four times. He is very much a staying type of horse, winning over 1m4f and last racing over 2m, unlike the owner's speedy sprinter Golden Horde, who this summer also finished third in the July Cup (G1) and the Sprint Cup (G1) under the AlMohamediya Racing banner. Sadly, last week it was announced that Golden Horde has been retired having picked up a training injury. (20:11)

Lot 331: Maystar, the Listed-winning, 100-rated three-year-old by Mayson from The Castlebridge Consignment, is bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 55,000gns.

He was in training with Archie Watson and has been ridden in 13 of his 14 starts by Hollie Doyle. He is the winner of five races and £143,694 in earnings.

Watson sent him to run in Qatar last December where he won the Al Rayyan Stakes over 7f from Think Big. That Night Of Thunder colt subsequently backed up the form when first beating in a conditions race and then finishing second to Sir Arthur Dayne in the Local Group 2 Al Biddah Mile (18:26)

Lot 323: "She is the filly I was after in the sale," said purchaser Ted Durcan after going to 165,000gns for the 86-rated Asiaaf. "She is lovely model, has excellent form, she will be a lovely filly next spring and summer on fast surface. There are lots of options, trip-wise as well. She is a lovely big scopey mare, and she will improve. She was my pick of the sale, I loved her. You just hope that you can land on her."

Durcan added: "Her only average run was on soft ground, she wants a nice fast surface – I've been watching her all summer. And arriving out of Marcus's [Tregoning] hotel is a major plus. He is a marvellous horseman, he brings them along and helps them. It is nice to have one from Marcus."

Bred, owned and sold by Shadwell, Asiaad is a daughter of New Approach out of the Shamardal mare Baqqa. Asiaaf will have paddock value once her racing days are over – Baqqa is an own-sister to the multiple Hong Kong Group 1 winner and placed Dunboyne Express, and from the further family of Love Divine and Sixties Icon (sire of Lot 302, our second top lot, Natase)

Asiaaf won on her second start in June at Goodwood over 1m2f. She was subsequently second at Sandown (1m2f) and Goodwood (1m4f). (17:57)

Lot 302: the well-named two-year-old colt Nastase (by Sixties Icon and out of Rough Courte*) is bought by Will Douglass on behalf of Qatar trainer Gassim Mohammad Ghazali for 120,000gns.

A progressive sort, Nastase has improved throughout the summer going from winning his maiden on his third start in August, to winning the Listed Rockingham Stakes at the beginning of October and then finishing fourth in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at the weekend. He has run eight times since July. He was bred, owned and trained by Mick Channon.

Ghazali, who usually travels to the Autumn Horses In Training Sale, is at home in Qatar watching online.

"We bought a very good horse from Mick Channon last year called Sir Arthur Dayne, he won the Al Biddah Mile in Qatar," said Douglass. "Nastase is very consistent horse, really honest, really straightforward, sound as a pound. I really like him.

"We had our eye on him after he won at York and he ran a really nice race in the Horris Hill. Hopefully there is more to come. We are trying to concentrate on buying a bit of quality for Gassim."

*For the younger readers Ilie Nastase was a professional tennis player. He was ranked world No. 1 from August 23, 1973 to June 2, 1974, and is one of just 10 players in history to win more than 100 ATP professional titles. He won seven Grand Slams and was first professional sports figure to sign an endorsement contract with Nike in 1972.

Năstase has had a well-documented and "colourful" personal life – he has been married five times and had many girlfriends. Maxim magazine awarded Năstase sixth placing on its list of "Living Sex Legends"... 😉 (17:20)

Lot 263: Wise Glory is heading to the West Country and the Paul Nicholls yard, bought by Nicholls's daughter Megan as a juvenile hurdling prospect. The son of Muhaarar cost his new connections 135,000gns. He has run seven times, is a dual winner, is rated 86 and has won over 1m4f on soft ground. He was previously trained by Simon and Ed Crisford.

"He will be going back to Dads to go juvenile hurdling," said Nicholls. "He is a lovely big horse and the more time we can give him he better. He has a lovely big frame to fill – he has the right sort of profile, he stays 1m4f and he has acted on soft ground so he is a horse we are looking forward to."

Megan has ridden out in Newmarket for the Crisford team, but has not sat on this horse.

"I have had a connection with Crisford team last year, and he was a horse who always caught the eye," she says. "He only ran once as a two-year-old, he was a big horse and they looked after him well. They are never too hard on their horses. I like that. Hopefully, there is plenty more in the engine yet. He is a gelding so that is a big plus. Come the New Year or early February, hopefully we can see him juvenile hurdling."

Of bloodstock purchasing, Nicholls added: "It is something I am massively interested in, Dad is encouraging me. I have gone around before with the likes of Tom [Malone], Alex Elliott, Steve Hillen doing some of the yearlings. I have leant loads and, hopefully, between myself, Dad and Buffy [Shirley-Beavan, vet] we can keep learning and have a bit of success."

A later tweet produced by Nicholls was seen advertising the horse for sale.

The sire Muhaarar has had one go hurdling so far - Iron Heart who ran in a juvenile hurdle at Wincanton last week for trainer David Pipe. He was third behind Viroflay and Hacker Des Place, sons of Air Chief Marshal and Great Pretender, both trained by Nicholls Snr. (16:22)

Lot 254: the high-class Ostilio has run three times in decent sprint handicaps since July finishing second and fourth and winning in September. Last time out the son of New Approach continued the winning run in the Listed Guisborough Stakes, wining by two and a half lengths from the 109-rated Qaysar.

Taylor Bloodstock is hoping to capitalise on this run of good form – the plan is to send the 108-rated sprinter to run in Dubai this winter for trainer Paul Midgley.

"He is ideal for what we need, he has a good rating. We'll get a bit of sun on his back, and see how we get on. Hopefully all goes to plan. We have followed him for a while," said Ian Mason at Tattersalls today on behalf of Taylor Bloodstock. (15:59)

Lot 223: the well-rated Numen (Galileo), runner-up in the Listed Nijinky Stakes in July for trainer Aidan O'Brien. becomes this year's sale's first six-figure lot when fetching 110,000gns.

"He has lots of options – possibly in Europe or the US, his new owner has not decided yet," said buyer Emmanuel de Seroux of Narvick International. "We like him very much, he is in very good order, he has not been over raced, he hope he has a future. We might give him a little time and he can strengthen."

The colt, who is rated 95, is very well bred – he is a son of the European champion two-year-old filly of 2004, the European champion three-year-old of 2005 and the winner of five Group 1 races, Divine Proportions (Kingmambo). She is also dam of the Group 3 winner Eightfold Path.

Second dam Myth To Reality (Sadler's Wells), was a Group 3 winner and dam of the Group 1 winner and sire Whipper and three further black-type horses. (15:10)

Lot 206: Daysan, the 80-rated three-year-old son of Temple City, is sold by Shadwell to go to Australia.

"He is a very promising sort, stays well, he has been looked after well. Temple City, I know him, and I like Dynaformer [grandsire] – he should suit Australia," said Ronald Rauscher, the successful purchaser with Australian Bloodstock.

The colt won his penultimate start at Chelmsford over 1m5f, and finished second and third on his two previous career starts.

He is out of the US Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes winner and Grade 1 runner-up Malibu Pier (Malibu Moon), and is a half-brother to the Listed winner and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) placed Coasted. Grand-dam is Blue Moon (Lomitas) also a Grade 2 winner at Santa Anita, and a Grade 1 runner-up at Keeneland. (14:58)

Lot 144: "He goes to Qatar and to trainer Stefano Ibido – we bought Dominus for him here last year from Brian [Meehan] and he is also by Zoffany. Dominus won impressively on Qatar's international day [HH The Amir Festival] last year," said Jamie Lloyd after buying Jimmy Sparks from the Brian Meehan Manton Lodge Stables draft for 90,000gns. "Dominus bolted up again last Thursday and he looks a really progressive type – this horse looks to have the same profile and will head straight to Qatar."

Lloyd added: "Jimmy Sparks looks like he will handle the ground in Qatar, and trip-wise he looks very versatile. Interestingly, Dominus is the same – he started off over 6f and looks like he will get a mile. Zoffany has been very successful horse for us – we have Dominus in Qatar and Originaire in the US, who has been running in Grade 2s on the Turf. He is a sire that we can trust. This horse physically is an A for us, he ticked all this boxes."

The two-year-old Jimmy Sparks has run six times and won twice, including last time out. He finished sixth of nine in the July Stakes (G2). He is rated 85. (13:22)

Lot 126: Kingsholm, sold as part of this year's first Qatar Racing draft by Jamie Railton, is bought by trainer James Fanshawe. Fanshawe knows the three-year-old well as the Newmarket trainer has had the Tagula gelding in his care this year. The three-year-old is in-form – he won on his third career start in August at Wolverhampton, and followed up at the same track last week. He is now rated 73.

"He is for a syndicate, and we are pleased he is coming back to Pegasus Stables," said Fanshawe. "We have no plans for him yet."

There was plenty of interest around the ring and outside in Kingsholm and Fanshawe had to go to 40,000gns to secure the 5f and 6f-winning gelding . (12:27)

Lot 121: the two-year-old Exceed And Excel filly Different Face, bred by Denniff Farms Ltd, is bought by Sam Haggas of Hurworth Bloodstock for 30,000gns from Simon and Ed Crisford's Gainsborough Stable .

Rated 78 and a winner of one race and placed in her other four racecourse starts, the filly is out of Different (Bahamian Bounty), a winning own-sister to Mary Read, the dam of the ill-fated speedster Kachy, and a half-sister to Tiana (Diktat). She is dam of the multiple Group 2 winner Beat The Bank. (12:06)
