Lot 59:
Cover Name has run just the once, but that was a placed effort when second in a 7f maiden at Brighton. The Camacho three-year-old filly, a half-sister to two black-type winners, including Shermeen (Desert Style), dam of the Phoenix Stakes (G1) winner Sudirman, was bought today by Nick Bradley Racing for 32,000gns.
(11:22)
Lot 49:
another winner since the catalogue was published is the three-year-old filly Lubna (Mustajeeb), winner of a Brighton maiden over a mile in June. She also went on to finish second in a 7f handicap at Doncaster last week.
The Shadwell homebred filly is out of the 1,000 Guineas runner-up Muwakleh (Machiavellian), an own-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Almutawakel and from the family of the dual champion White Muzzle.
Lubna was bought by Meah / Lloyd Bloodstock for 35,000gns.
(11:18)
Lot 46:
Haizoom, a 2018 chestnut filly by Sea The Stars and out of Sortita (Monsun), is sold by Shadwell Estates to Durcan Bloodstock for 23,000gns.
She is the winner of a race since the catalogue was published and is a half-sister to Mutashaded (Raven's Pass), who finished third in the King Edward VII Stakes (G2).
Sortita is a full-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Schiaparelli, the 2002 German champion three-year-old filly Salve Regina, and the German champion three-year-old colt of 2000, Samum.
It is also the family of the 2004 German champion three-year-old colt and successful sire, Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars).
(11:02)
Lot 42:
Dubai Fashion, a black-type Listed-placed daughter of Dubawi, is sold by Shadwell Estates to Cormac McCormack for 140,000gns.
She has had three foals and one runner so far – Karuoka, her first foal born in 2018 and by Awtaad, has been placed three times, once since the catalogue was published.
"She ticks all the boxes, it is all there," said McCormack. "She is for an established client based in Ireland."
In addition to Dubai Fashion's own black-type, all of the mares on the page boast stakes form – first dam Oriental Fashion (Marju) won the Premio Ribot (G2) and is a multiple black-type producer, second dam Wijdan finished second in the Pretty Polly Stakes (L) and is dam of a Group 1-placed performer, and third dam was the European champion two-year-old Height Of Fashion, dam of Nayef, Nashwan, Unfuwain, Alwasmi, Sarayir and grand-dam of Lahudood.
She was sold in-foal on a March 27th cover to Blue Point.
(10:47)
Lot 19:
Battle Angel, a grey filly by Iffraaj out of Arabescatta (Monsun), is bought by Ed Stapleton Bloodstock for 15,000gns.
She has been placed now three times having finished second last time out in a handicap over 1m4f at Tipperary.
Her second dam is the Listed winner and Group 2-placed Approach (Darshaan) and it is the winner-producing family of Last Second, Aussie Rules and Michealangelo.

Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of the 2021 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“A median bettered only once this decade at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale combined with an average and turnover which both compare favourably with the 2019 and 2020 renewals are all positives to take from today’s sale, as has been the consistent domestic demand at all levels of the market. Similarly, while not quite matching the unprecedented levels at the recent Craven Breeze Up Sale, the clearance rate has also held up well, especially considering a significantly larger catalogue than usual and the disruption to overseas participation owing to the current widespread travel restrictions.
“We can also reflect on a Guineas Breeze Up Sale which has produced numerous impressive pinhooking triumphs, as ever reflecting the expertise of the consignors, and another sale which has underlined the importance of the Tattersalls live internet bidding platform which has yet again proved to be invaluable, particularly for overseas buyers unable to attend the sale. COVID continues to test us all, but once more we have experienced trade of remarkable resilience and a collective determination from all involved to explore every avenue to provide as vibrant a market as possible in the face of considerable obstacles.”

Lot 281:
the Tally-Ho Stud consigned colt by the farm's first-season sire Cotai Glory is bought by trainer Jedd O'Keeffe via an online bid of 80,000gns.
Out of the placed mare Docklands Grace (Honour And Glory), the colt is a half-brother to six winners, including the Listed winner and Group 3 third Chiara Wells.
(19:36)
Lot 262:
the only breeze up horse prepared this year by Irish-based NH jockey Ian McCarthy sells for 105,000gns, bought by David Redvers.
"He is a horse who has had a great preparation and we've liked him all along," said McCarthy. "We've had plenty of interest the last couple of days, he did a lovely breeze ridden by Micky Cleere, and he is by the right sire, isn't he?"
By Mehmas, the colt has been owned by McCarthy with two friends, the trio originally purchasing him as a foal as a yearling pinhook project. It was a project plan that had to be changed last autumn when the colt failed to find a buyer at the Tattersalls September Sale.
"Gerry McCormack pinhooked him as a foal for €3,000, it is luckily enough now that he was not sold as a yearling!" smiled McCarthy. "I prepped him for us, he has been very straightforward. As time went on he just developed, he got much stronger and through the last eight weeks he has really turned a corner– he takes his work well."
McCarthy is based at Grangecorr Farm in Ireland and works alongside Nanallac Stud.
McCarthy has ridden around 95 winners over jumps, and runs a breaking and pre-training yard. He also produces point-to-pointers and, despite the interrupted season, has enjoyed a great spring with his runners – he has run four horses and three have won.
"I happened to have the winner of a Tipperary bumper and we sold him for 195,000gns at the March point-to-point sale here," he added.
Called Ballybough Native and sold as Lot
227, the Shirocco gelding was bought at the end of March by trainer Henry De Bromhead.
Today's purchaser David Redvers, who bought on behalf of Sheikh Fahad, said of the Mehmas colt's plans: "He will be trained in Newmarket, Sheikh Fahad [who lives in Newmarket] wants to see him trained locally and close by. The horse did a very good time, he is by a very good sire and he is a lovely model, it is a great touch for the vendor. "
(19:31)
Lot 240 and Lot 208:
both are bought by Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock.
The sale of Lot
240, a chestnut filly by first-season sire Ribchester, continues the good day for Glending Stables. She was the farm's last lot of the day and made 80,000gns, a great return on her yearling purchase price of €15,000. Glending is today's leading consignor by average - the farm's three lots fetching an average of 79,167gns.
“I’m delighted, it's a great return for a lovely filly," said consignor Roderick Kavanagh. "She was fourth-quickest [at the breeze], we had lots of punters on her and she is a stand-out physical."
Buyer Tom Goff said: "I was underbidder on three or four yearlings by the sire last year, there is a big word for them amongst trainers, every stable I go to, and trainer that I speak to, tells me they have got one or two by him that they really like.
"I thought this is a beautiful filly, she ticked all the boxes, she's a two-year-old type, but she will go on a three. She is a lovely classy filly and she clocked a good time.
"The Almanzor [Lot 208] has been bought for a different client. He is a lovely staying horse, out of a Group 1 winner by an exciting young sire. He is going to need a bit of time, but he has a great page and I would hope he will turn into a really nice 7f type and then go on from there."
The colt cost Goff 75,000gns, having been bought as a yearling by Five Star Bloodstock for €52,000. He was sold today by Kilminfoyle House Stud.
(18:32)
Lot 233:
"We had to pay a little more than we had planned as we had valued the horse a bit less, and we knew Alan King and Anthony Bromley [underbidders] would be on the horse as he is just the sort they like, but he fits the bill for us," said purchaser Walter Buick after going to 80,000gns for the son of Fast Company offered by Meadowview Stud.
Buick was purchasing the colt, who was sold with an early entry in the Swedish Derby, on behalf of Swedish owner Hans Skjödt.
"He is heading to Scandinavia and the race qualification is very attractive, however there are lots of options in the programme book for him and he is horse for next year. He is going to Sweden," added Buick.
The colt was bought as a yearling by Meadowview for €8,000.
(18:13)
Lot 227:
"She is a really lovely filly, she breezed well and is going into training in Ireland with Paddy Twomey," said Richard Ryan after signing at 74,000gns on the only lot offered through the Guineas Breeze Up Sale by the former champion three-year-old Churchill, whose first crop are two-year-olds of this year.
"She has a bit of class and wonderful page. She will be a late two-year-old and a three-year-old for next year. She has a lot of quality and I think the nicest filly here today."
The filly, who was offered by Shanaville Stables, who bought her at the October Book 3 Sale for 16,000gns, is out of African Plains (Oasis Dream). She is the dam of one winner and is a daughter of the Haydock Sprint Cup (G1) winner African Rose from the family of Group 2 winner Calyx and the Dewhurst Stakes (G1) winner Distant Music.
(17:45)
Lot 207:
another by Postponed catches buyers' eyes, this time a filly offered by Augiar Bloodstock. The filly provided her consignor Robson Augiar with a fine return on his 4,000gns October Book 3 investment – she was bought today by Michael O'Callaghan for 82,000gns.
"She is by a first-season sire, she was late in Book 3," explained Augiar of the filly's yearling price. "She caught my eye in the ring and I spoke to her consignor and she recommended her.
"The filly's grown a lot, she is a late foal born on May 21st and a lot of improvement in her. She will be a late season two-year-old and I think she will be a class filly as a three-year-old."
Augair added: "Postponed might not be obvious breeze-up sire but he is by top sire Dubawi and he had speed and class."
The filly, who was recommended to Augiar as a yearling by consignor Sophie Buckley of Culworth Grounds Stud, was sold last year part of the dispersal of Shutford Stud. She comes from the farm's long-nurtured family of Best Of The Bests and Sueboog.
O'Callaghan is today's leading purchaser, the trainer having bought seven lots so far for a spend of 385,000gns.
"She is out of a Shamardal mare, and you couldn't like it any more. She comes from a good back pedigree and she breezed very well. She has a lovely action, she handled the whole occasion very well, hopefully she is lucky," said O'Callaghan, who left Federico Barberini as a frustrated underbidder
(17:26)
Lot 183:
Ken Carroll of Lewinstown Farm did not manage to sell his Mehmas colt as a yearling at the Tattersalls Ascot Sale last year, but the breeder's belief in his horse more than paid off today when reconsigned at Park Paddocks – the February-born colt fetched 67,000gns.
"I bred him, but it did not really work out when he came over as a last year," said Carroll. "I loved him as a yearling, and once the saddle went on him, it was simple, he is so tenacious in his work.
Of the colt's pedigree, the breeder said: "Mehmas is becoming a great sire, but his mare Streisand is good too – it is a quick pedigree and I bred her and her half-brothers Reckless Reward [Norfolk Stakes (G2) runner-up] and Pearl In The Sand [Listed placed].
"The mare is in foal to Magna Grecia, I have another mare in-foal to Mehmas. This colt was the only one for us to breeze this year – it is easy when you have a good one!"
The colt is heading to Italy bought by Marco Botti. The Italian agent had particular reason to want to buy a colt by Mehmas – at this year's Tattersalls February Sale he bought Fayathaan by Mehmas for 85,000gns. Last Sunday, the three-year-old won the Group 3 Premio Parioli, the Italian 2000 Guineas.
"This colt is going to Italy and will be in training in Milan," said Bozzi. "He is a really nice horse, one of the best of the sale, he seems a forward sort."
(16:29)
Lot 166:
the only lot in the sale by international sire Fastnet Rock makes 45,00gns, bought by Gaelic Bloodstock from Ballycullen Stables.
Out of the Nashwan mare Seracina, the dam of four winners, including the multiple Group 2 placed Miss Crissy (Verglas), the bay filly is from the family of the champion Australian miler and dual Group1 winner Contributor.
(15:55)
Lot 108 and Lot 121:
are both purchased by County Kildare-based trainer Michael O'Callaghan – Lot
108 by Dark Angel and from Tally-Ho Stud cost 75,000gns, while Lot
121, by Magician, was a 95,000gns purchase from Augiar Bloodstock.
"The Magician is a lovely horse, he did a good breeze, he was very professional. He came highly recommended, everything was right about him, he had a good vet, the whole lot. He is bred to be a miler, but he has plenty of pace as well so we will kick on with him. A nice type of horse," said O'Callaghan.
Of decisions about purchasing plans, O'Callaghan said: "You can't train a piece of paper! Physical is everything when it comes to training, especially long term for me; we are a commercial operation ind trade on and I can't remember when someone asked me for the pedigree of a good horse in training, there is such a good market for them.
"If you have a pedigree and a page and then if it matches the physical it makes a horse very expensive, pedigree is the one thing that I will make allowances for."
Of the Dark Angel colt O'Callaghan said: "He is a lovely horse, he is not a breeze up type but he will be a lovely horse in August or September. He did a very nice breeze visually, he has great use of himself and a lovely way to gallop, very professional and straightforward. He might not have clocked for some people, but, for the type of horse he is, I thought his time was good enough. He again came from a great hotel that we have very lucky with, and I think long term he might be a bit of value."
Both colts provided consignors with profitable returns: Lot
121 was bought as a yearling last year by Augiar Bloodstock for 14,000gns at the Tattersalls Ascot Sale, while Highflyer Bloodstock purchased Lot
108 for £48,000.
Later in the session, O'Callaghan also went to 52,000gns to buy Kilbrew Staves-consigned Showcasing colt (Lot
162). Out of the Verglas mare Savvy, the grey colt was bought as a yearling by Michael Shefflin for €25,000.
(14:43)
Lot 100, Lot 104 and Lot 113:
Lot
113, a colt from the first crop of the multiple Group 1 winner Postponed, makes 135,000gns bought by Blandford Bloodstock.
"He is for my resale syndicate Never Say Die, will be trained by David Simcock," said buyer Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock. "A client bred Postponed so I have followed him all the way through, and I am giving him a big chance.
"No Nay Never is sitting there under the second dam, the fact that he is so high up in the page, I really liked that. I don't see this horse running until August or September, he is a horse for the future. David is on his way to Goodwood, so he has no idea that we have bought him or how much we gave so I might be in for a bollocking! I just thought he is a smashing horse."
Explaining the ownership syndicate, Brown said: "The syndicate is all about resale. We aim to sell as three-year-olds. The two really smart ones we have got now are three-year-olds and we still own them, but they are there for resale. The ten people involved are all friends and clients, it has been fantastic – we had Teppal who won the French Guineas.
"At the moment we have two really smart horses Man Of Riddles and Onesmoothoperator – both won on their debuts and are getting ready to go again, Man Of Riddles will have an entry in the Cocked Hat Stakes and we are sort of dreaming a bit with him. There are great people involved in the syndicate and I think they will be really excited with this horse."
Of the colt's breeze, Brown enthused: "He did a cracking breeze. He just showed a great action, it wasn’t a speedy breeze but it was the style he did it in, he has a good attitude."
The colt was bought as a foal by Peter and Ross Doyle fo 20,000gns as a Tattersalls December Foal in 2019, and was sold today by Glending Stables.
“He was bought by my Dad and Michael Downey and we’ve always really liked him," recalled Roderick Kavanagh of Glending. "He’s a racehorse and he was such a good pull-out outside the boxes. He did an impressive breeze for his size and the date of birth he has and he really fills the eye. He was very popular and he never let us down from start to finish."
Of recent trade for Glending, Kavanagh outlined: “We’re on a good run; I don’t know what to put it down to, good horses probably, and we’ve had a great team all winter and the horses have been done right.
"It’s good that we are selling to return customers as well; we sold a horse previously to Brown at Goresbridge, Fiji [purchased for €115,000 by Blandford Bloodstock in 2019], and the six-figure filly here at the Craven Sale last week was a return customer as well [Lot 53]. We’ve had 14 to breeze this year, more than ever, but it is a good outlet to have."
He added of the son of Postponed: "He is a lovely horse and all the agents were on him, all the big dogs as you’d expect. I think there were five or six bidders on him.”
Blandford also purchased two fillies this morning: Lot
100, a Cotai Glory filly from Tally-Ho Stud for 55,000gns, and Lot
104, a filly by Havana Gold and out of the Group 1-placed Lottie Dod. She cost 40,000gns.
"I bought the Havana Gold's half-sister Miss Marble, she is in training with Simon Crisford and she is well liked; it is a lovely pedigree," said Brown. "This filly has been bought for David, he spun round the horses here this morning and thought she is a lovely racy filly. She is not one that is going to take a great deal of time. A sweet filly.
"The Cotai Glory did a very good breeze, and I thought she is a lovely filly. Tom Biggs, who works with me, bought her half-sister So Hi Society, who was Listed placed. She will probably go to Archie Watson."
(14:32)
Lot 87:
trainer James Tate goes to 60,000gns on behalf of Rabbah Bloodstock for this filly by the Prix de la Foret winner and first-season sire Aclaim.
Tate said: "She is coming into training with me, hopefully she will run relatively soon. I thought she breezed particularly well, finished off well through the second furlong and gallop out, she is nice big filly. Aclaim is an unknown but her dam was pretty useful."
Her dam Knock Stars (Soviet Star) was a Listed runner-up and Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes third. She is the dam of one winner.
She was sold today by WC Equine, and it is the first time the filly has been through a sales ring.
(13:02)
Lot 73:
Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstock with trainer Alan King goes to 75,000gns for this colt by Noble Mission. He was bought last autumn for just $9,000 by today's consignor Powerstown Stud.
"This sale has been a happy hunting ground for us, and we are aiming to buy a few here," said Bromley. "We have got a few owners who are interested in buying some, this is one of our favourite sales.
"This is a very, very handsome horse, moved like a dream, he just kept selling himself to us," added Bromley. "We don't normally go after American-breds, but Noble Mission, the full-brother to Frankel and Frankels, they often like a bit of softer ground. He just looked like a late season two-year-old who will make a three-year-old."
At this sale in 2018 the Highflyer/King team bought last season's Group 2 Champions Long Distance Cup winner Trueshan (Planteur) .
(12:29)
Lot 70:
bought for €40,000 as a yearling last autumn, this Sea The Moon colt already named Herzbube makes 82,000gns for Church Farm & Horse Park Stud.
Of the January-born colt, purchaser Ross Doyle said: "We are big fans of the sire, like most people. He comes from a good home, we've bought the likes of Mehmas off John and Roger – we love getting horses off them and the trainers love getting their horses as they are so well-behaved and have had a wonderful education. He is a lovely sort and has been bought for an established client. He goes to Jim Boyle."
Consignor John Cullinan of Horse Park Stud said: "Roger Marley bought him, we split up the purchasing chores last autumn. He was very keen on the sire, as we are.
"The colt has a little bit of a light page and we struggled with that when we were buying him, we've left room on the page for looks! But he is out of mare by Adlerflug, a top class sire, it is an Easter German pedigree I am told, but a nice horse is a nice horse and he is by a top sire. He is a lovely individual, he has had a clear run all winter and he will be a mile maiden type in a few months' time."

Guineas Horses In Training
Lot 28:
Highfields Racing goes back to a proven source. The team bought the lightly raced Classic Wave from Juddmonte at the July Sale in 2020; a two-time winner and dual runner-up (all his starts) since, he is now rated 85.
Today Highfields buys Alpha King, the son of Kingman from Juddmonte, for 45,000gns.
"We bought Classic Wave here last July, from Juddmonte, for myself and client Charlie Pigram and basically we were looking for the same sort of horse," said James Clutterbuck of Highfields. "This horse could improve for some time, and he could end up appealing to the juvenile hurdle market, that is sort of our aim, but he could also be a type, with some more experience, to go abroad. He is unproven, he is unfurnished to my eye, and needs a little more time to thicken out. We will take him home and turn out. He will go into training with Peter Charalambous."
Alpha King has run just four times, and has finished second once. He is rated 75 and is from the Juddmonte's extended family of Dancing Brave.
(11:10)
Lot 27:
Nortonthorpe Boy, bought by trainer Phil McEntee at the Autumn HIT sale last year for 7,000gns, sells today for 5,000gns bought by Ted Durcan for55,000gns.
The Swiss Spirit three-year-old gelding has a rating of 88 and is the winner of six races from 22 starts. He has also finished placed five times.
"He has been bought for Saudi Arabia," says Durcan, who bought on behalf of Abdullah Al-Khashan. "He will have a break here now and then will ship to Saudi Arabia. A tough, hardy and sound horse, he should be ideal for racing there."

Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of the 2021 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“We introduced the £250,000 Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus this year, in addition to the lucrative £15,000 Craven Breeze Up Bonus and it is clear that owners have embraced these unprecedented bonuses. We have seen solid and diverse demand at all levels of the market from start to finish, which has produced the best Craven Breeze Up clearance rate since 2000 and key indicators which have held up well, especially when taken in the context of the COVID-related challenges and restrictions, which we are all still grappling with and which continue to hinder international travel.
“Nevertheless, to hear consistently positive feedback from owners, trainers, agents and consignors about the bonuses has been gratifying, and reinforces our commitment to exploring as many innovative ways as possible to reward owners who buy at Tattersalls with extra prize-money. There is no doubt that we will see plenty of this crop of Craven Breeze Up graduates performing at a high level and it would be even more pleasing than usual if the Royal Ascot and Group 1 bonuses were won in the coming months.
“Despite the prolonged difficulties with international travel, overseas buyers have again demonstrated their appetite for high-class Tattersalls breeze up two year olds.
"Buyers from America, Bahrain, Dubai, France, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Singapore have all been active, many of them using the live internet bidding platform, and as well as paying tribute to the consignors who have, as ever, presented an outstanding collection of two-year-olds. We must again commend everyone for their patience with the regulations and determination to overcome the obstacles we continue to face. We are still having to conduct sales under strict guidelines, but as well as looking forward to the forthcoming Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale, we are also looking forward to returning to more normality in the not too distant future."

Lot 145:
named Tattered Flag, this colt by Union Rags is bought by Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah for 185,000gns.
The February colt was bought last September by Tom Whitehead of Powerscourt Stud for $115,000, and sold in today's Day 2 session by Whitehead as part of a two-horse draft alongside Lot
90, a colt by the fellow US-based sire Practical Joke. He made 140,000gns and was bought by trainer Michael Callaghan.
"I am very pleased," said Whitehead. "There are two nice horses, and the Union Rags will be a lovely horse later in the year."
Whitehead's 2020 buying mission took place through the real depths of the COVID pandemic with travel restrictions and problems, but he is now obviously delighted that he managed to make the journey stateside.
"It was touch and go whether we'd get to the US last year, but the sales company was very good and organised it all," reported Whitehead. "That has been a great start, but we are only halfway there – we've another seven or eight to sell!"
Tattered Flag is probably heading back to the US later this year for his new owner.

Lot 143:
the son of first-season sire Caravaggio is bought by Alastair Donald of Sackville Donald for 240,000gns.
"He is for a new Hong Kong client, he will go out to Hong Kong at the end of the season," said Donald. "He will be pre-trained in England. He is a lovely big horse and he has a nice pedigree. He breezed well for a big horse and looks the type to do well in Hong Kong."
Of a "type" for Hong Kong Donald added: "They don't race in Hong Kong until they are three-year-olds, so you don't need a 'here and now' horse."
Of Caravaggio, Donald said: "The sire looks like he has got a very nice two-year-old already and this is the first I have bought by him, I did like the yearlings – they are particularly good walkers, and this horse's movement is also very good."
The colt was sold by Yeomanstown Stud, who bought the colt as a foal spending 155,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
"We bought him back to Book 1, but it did not quite work out. He is a beautiful colt, breezed real well, he has a great attitude, I am very pleased," said David O'Callaghan. "He was always a lovely horse and he hasn't missed a day."
(20:31)
Lot 133:
"He is for David Simcock," said purchaser Richard Brown after going to 140,000gns for the son of Dabirsim sold by Aguiar Bloodstock. "I bought a horse at the breeze-ups last year from Robson [Aguiar] called Cordouan. He is trained by John Gosden and he won very nicely at Newcastle last night. I am going back the same hotel, but I think John's horse is a nice horse and I hope this horse is, too.
"He breezed well, came across the track a little bit green, but he breezed very nicely and is a good-looking horse. He'll need plenty of time but he will get that with David. He'll be an August/September, 7f starter. We'll give him a break now."
(20:12)
Lot 119:
the only lot catalogued at the Craven Sale by first-season sire Ulysses IGalileo) is bought by Compas Equine / Dave Loughnane for 95,000gns. He was sold by The Bloodstock Connection, who had purchased the colt as a yearling for 25,000gns at the October Book 2 Yearling Sale.
"I loved him as a yearling and probably should have bought him then. He is a lovely moving horse, I was impressed with him when I saw him for the second time, and he has a fantastic pedigree," said Michael Orlandi of Compas. "We'll be dreaming that he can run well and can become a Chesham type of animal. That is the dream!
"But being by Ulysses it gives a bit of longevity, he is not just a horse for this year but for next year, too. When you buy one with a pedigree and you liked the way he breezed, when he comes from a good consignor and there were so many people on him, it does give you a sense of confidence.
"If they have natural ability, then they can breeze at this time of year – and he is a great moving horse. Maybe I should have bought him last October, but on the flip side Johnny [Hassett] has done a bit of work and we have the peace of mind having seen him work. He goes to trainer Dave Loughnane."
(19:41)
Lot 117:
Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock goes to 125,000gns for the Night Of Thunder colt sold by Yeomanstown Stud.
"He was my pick of the sale, I am a massive fan of the stallion, ever since my time at Godolphin. I bought Storm Legend at the breeze-ups last year – he won first time out and was John Oxx's last winner."
McStay added: "This horse breezed very well, he comes from a great farm in Yeomanstown, they do a super job, and he was recommended by David O'Callaghan. I remember the dam, she was trained by Mark Wallace and she was pretty quick. That gave me a little bit of extra encouragement to buy today. He is for an existing client and goes into training with Hugo Palmer."
Of the individual, McStay said: "He is a big strong mature horse, but he won't be a horse to pitch up at Royal Ascot, he'll be a horse that will take a bit more time, you'd love to see him run in the autumn – he is an exciting horse. Thrilled to get him.
McStay also helps with marketing of stallion Aclaim and said of Lot
96: "He was one of the nicest foals. I was surprised he didn't do so well as a yearling, but Tally-Ho went the long road with him and they got paid today."
(19:14)
Lot 101:
Stephen Hillen added to yesterday's three purchases when going to 150,000gns for Showcasing colt from Katie Walsh's Greenhills Farm.
The March-born colt is a first foal out of Swirral Edge (Hellvelyn), a half-sister to the Listed winner Fashion Queen and from the fast family of the Flying Childers Stakes (G2) and Molecomb Stakes (G3) winner Wunders Dream.
He was bought as a yearling at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale for 65,000gns.
He is the fourth top-priced sold by the Whitsbury Manor Stud sire at the Craven Sale since 2014.
(18:38)
Lot 96:
is bought by trainer Stuart Williams, who produced a first-time-out two-year-old winner at Newmarket today: Desert Dreamer (Oasis Dream). She was the trainer's first-ever juvenile winner on the Rowley Mile
This 150,000gns purchase is by first-season sire Aclaim (Acclamation), who stands at the National Stud, and is out of Step Sequence (Nayef). She is dam of the black-type winner Lady Penelope (Night Of Thunder).
"He is for Opulence Thoroughbreds, whom I bought a few for at the last Tattersalls sale," said Williams. "This colt is not certain to come to me as I help with the buying. He is a good strong horse and athletic, and we liked the way he breezed. He looks like he will be able to run as a two-year-old – unfortunately you have to pay for this type of horse!
"But, if he was by a proven sire such as Night Of Thunder we would not have been able to buy. Aclaim was a very good racehorse himself and a good two-year-old."
Of his two-year-old winner – bred by Branton Court Stud and a 20,000gns purchase from Ballyhane at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale – Williams said to the racing press: "I was pleased with her and she is very straightforward. She's not very big but she is tough and brave and has got a bit of talent.
"We’ve got to run again before we can think about Royal Ascot, and we might look at something like the National Stakes at Sandown or the Marygate at York."

Lot 90:
Practical Joke, the sire of yesterday's Day 1 session top lot (Lot
71), gets another to catch the bidders' eyes – this colt offered by Powerscourt Stud selling for 140,000gns.
He is out of the Super Saver mare Sky Saver, the dam of one winner from one runner. She is a half-sister to Majestic Quality and Diski Dance, graded placed runners in the US.
This colt and yesterday's session topper are the only two by the first-crop sire catalogued at this year's Craven Sale.

At the end of the day, a private sale was confirmed of Lot
8 - colt by Kingman and out of Flying Fairies (Holy Roman Emperor) for 335,000gns.
The colt breezed on Monday, but was subsequently withdrawn from the sale by consignor Kilminfoyle House Stud. He was bought tonight by Manor House Stud.
(21:40)
Lot 71:
"She is as good a filly as I have had to breeze," said Roger O'Callaghan of Tally-Ho Stud after selling this filly by Practical Joke for 360,000gns, tonight's top price. "She has been a genuine natural from the start. I bought her at Keeneland November as a foal with Archie St George (St George Sales at Brookstone Farm] she didn't make the yearling sale, and we brought her here. The sire line through Into Mischief is magic."
The filly is now heading back to the US, bought by agent Alex Elliott on behalf of Peter Brant's White Birch Farm.
"She is a beautiful filly and she going back to the US and to Chad [Brown], who trained Practical Joke," said Elliott. "She has been very highly thought of from Day 1, Roger has raved about her all along. I am delighted to get her, I think she is a perfect filly to go back to the States.
"She is a May foal, she is going to need a bit of time, but she is the one. She did everything. She is typical Craven Sale type – scopey with quality and will need bit of time, but the more time I think you can give them, the better they can be."
Elliott added of the sire, whose first crop are two-year-olds of this year: "The two-year-old guys in Florida were raving about Practical Joke all winter – it is one thing then to go and do it, and they seem to be doing it. "
By the US sire sensation Into Mischief, the Ashford Stud-base stallion Practical Joke was a dual Grade 1 two-year-old winner (Champagne Stakes and Hopeful Stakes) and finished third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. At three he was a Grade 1 winner of the H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Saratoga. Aside from his winning juvenile debut all his starts came in graded company
(21:34)
Lot 62:
the buying partnership of agent Stephen Hillen and trainer Kevin Ryan go to 200,000gns for the chestnut Mehmas colt from Longways Stables, a third purchase for the pair tonight.
"Mehmas is doing wonderful things, this horse has a good stride pattern, he is a very nice individual and never put a foot wrong, he has a great attitude," said Hillen when explaining what he particularly liked about the colt out of Party Feet (Noverre).
He added: "I am not really interested in the page when they come to the breeze-ups, I want to buy the individual and a horse who looks like it can run. To be honest I don't even look at the pedigree, it is not like at a yearling sale – they can even run or they can't!"
All three of tonight's purchases (Lot
7, Lot
52, Lot
62) have been bought for Steve Ryan, who is an existing owner with Kevin Ryan.
Hillen added: "They all look early types, and Kevin Ryan is a master with speed horses, he is a master with any horse!"
