Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale
Chairman's Statement
“As ever this unique fixture, the largest and most popular of its type in the world, has attracted an extraordinarily diverse collection of buyers from all corners of the world. Australian buyers have enjoyed outstanding success purchasing at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale with graduates winning 48 Group/Listed races in the last three years, and they have again played a significant role, buying in excess of 30 lots for more than 6,000,000gns.
“They have been joined by the typically enthusiastic group of buyers from the Gulf region, whose respective carnivals have buoyed the market in the Middle East for quality tried horses from Britain and Ireland. We have also welcomed a large contingent of European buyers, especially from Spain and Italy, who have made a significant contribution to the sale, and it was equally encouraging to see such strong domestic demand from both the Flat and National Hunt fraternities.
“A record price at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale for Delius and sale turnover that has only narrowly fallen short of the wide margin record set in 2022, have provided a fitting finale to what has been a remarkable month of sales at Tattersalls in October.
“However, against this backdrop of positivity we can only express concern regarding the government’s budget announced on Wednesday. The implications of it will have far-reaching effects not only on all businesses in the racing industry but more long term on breeders and trainers, who could now be liable for inheritance tax on their assets. The effects of these changes are surely going to have a negative impact on the whole racing and breeding sector in this country.”
“We now look forward to the Tattersalls December Foal & Breeding Stock Sale, which annually showcases the very best of European bloodstock to a global audience. (13:47)

Lot 1491: Melon is sold by trainer Ollie Greenall's Stockton Hall Farm, and bought by Greenall for 68,000gns who explained: "There has been a change of ownership, and, luckily, we have got some people together as we really want to go hurdling with him. He is so tough and genuine – he has actually grown recently and he is big enough to go jumping. He has had a mini-break since his win at Haydock, has schooled already so he is ready to go and should be out soon."
Melon, a three-year-old by Adlerflug, won over 1m6f and on soft ground at the end of September off a BHA mark of 65. He was bought by Dan Astbury at last year's Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale for 45,000gns. (10:34)

We will put him away now and this filly has been bought to race for Daniel through the winter. She looks ready to win, is a nice sort and I liked her."
I Can Imagine, who has been in training with Joseph O'Brien, has run three times since the catalogue was published, and finished a length and a half second last time at Gowran Park. (10:23)

Lot 1419: Dark Rosa (Dark Angel), offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, makes 40,000gns. She was bought by trainer Mark Rimell.
The filly has won since the catalogue was published, winning her maiden in September over 6f at Pontefract off a BHA mark of 72. She backed up that performance with a good fourth place over in a 0-80 handicap over course and distance in October.
She is out of Rosa Gialla, a Diamond Green half-sister to Orange Grouse, who won the Knockaire Stakes (L) and was placed in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes. (15:39)
Lot 1416: this two-year-old gelding by Blue Point is heading to Qatar, bought by Qatari-based trainer Ahmad Kobeissi for 26,000gns.
Named Sapphire Valley and Timeform rated 79, he has been in training with George Boughey for Al Asayl Bloodstock Ltd.
He has run three times, was a winner on debut and finished fourth over 7f at Newcastle on October 22.
"He is a nice horse, he vetted clean and he has some good form," said Kobeissi of the gelding out of the Oasis Dream Group 3 winner Mystic Dawn. (15:32)
Lot 1359: Native King (Kingman) is a 14th horse bought by Stuart Boman this week, and like the majority, is heading to Australia for trainer Annabel Neasham Racing, though in this instance Go Racing is also part of the new ownership group.
"I has bought 13 horses before this chap so I though it was unlucky and I had better try for another one!" joked Boman after spending 88,000gns. "He is a stunning horse, and very well bred. I am good friends with Rob Speers, and Ibrahim Araci bred this horse and raced him. I had a good chat with Rob yesterday and trainer Hugo Palmer and they recommended the horse, who will benefit from gelding.
"He has got a big engine and a big turn of foot – at the start of the year he came from last at Chester to win. It was not a great race but the turn of foot he showed that day is what you need in Australia. He will also get a faster pace to run at and some firmer ground in Australia, which will suit. Kingman works in Australia.
"i have been working this sale for 15 years, and it has been Blandford's best-ever Autumn HIT Sale – the most amount horses bought and for the biggest outlay." (14:34)
Lot 1356: "He has been bought for Jonjo and AJ O'Neill, who were looking for a dual-purpose type," reported Matt Coleman after spending 85,000gns on Lyric. "This horse has got some good form, and he won a nice novice at Windsor in the spring. He ran quite well in the Listed Cocked Hat at Goodwood in May, only beaten a neck by stable mate Pappano, who made 200,000gns last night [Lot 1061, bought by Harold Kirk/Willie Mullins].
"Then he had a bit of a break and he ran quite well on Saturday behind Iron Lion and a few others who made a lot of money this week.
"His sister is black-type over jumps, and the O'Neills will probably run him over hurdles this winter and then pop him back on the Flat on some soft ground in the spring. The first job, though, will probably be a gelding operation!"
Timeform rated 89, Lyric was bred and raced by Denford Stud Ltd. He is out of the winning Galileo mare Gala, while his half-sister Pretending (Make Believe) is a dual winner over hurdles and has been placed seven times, including in the Junior Fillies' Juvenile Hurdle (G3) at Cheltenham. (14:23)
Lot 1330: trainer Joseph Parr goes to 50,000gns for Beauty By My Side, a juvenile filly by Kodiac and sold by Imperium Sale for Jayar Investments.
Parr, who was sat in the seats to bid, said:"She is a lovely filly nice size, she ran a good race first time at Yarmouth, we liked that. She won at Wolverhampton over 7f. I don't think she is such a typical Kodiac, she has a bit of size and scope about her. I think she will get a mile and will develop into a nice filly next year. She has been bought for a new syndicate – we sold a horse last year and they were looking to go again.
"She will have a break now, have a bit of time off and some time to catch up with herself."
After her last time win on her third career start, Beauty By My Side, who has been in training with Kevin Philippart De Foy, has been given a handicap mark of 75. She is out of the Falco mare Chantaleen, a half-sister to Spoil The Fun, who won the Premio del Piazzale (G3) and was placed a number of times in European Group races. (13:39)
Lot 1329: "She has been bought to go jumping," said trainer Thomas Gibney after spending 37,000gns on Turn Up The Heat.
"She is a winner now, so has shown some ability and she has proven form on soft ground, which is important for us. We will see how she gets on, if she does not take to it we can always run her back on the Flat," he added.
The three-year-old is by Gleneagles, and won on her last start at Leicester on heavy ground over a mile. She has run seven times nd also finished fourth twice and seond once. She was sold by Valmont through Imperium Sales having bene in training with Ralph Beckett. (13:29)
Lot 1296: Dr Khaled Salami's KGS buys again... the team making an eighth purchase this week when going to 24,000gns for Come On You Spurs (Zoffany).
The three-year-old filly was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment for trainer Richard Spencer and the Flying Spurs Partnership.
Bred by Chasemore Farm, the filly is out of the Sixties Icon mare Summer In February, a dam of four winners from four runners and five foals, and a half-sister to the Lennox Stakes (G2) winner and Group 1-placed Dutch Connection and Grand Alliance, who won the John PorterStakes (G3). Second dam is the Montrose Stakes (L) winner La Vita E Bella.
The consistent Come On You Spurs is now the winner of three races and has only finished out of the first four places four times in 13 starts. (12:36)
Lot 1213: the well-named Media, a two-year-old filly by Make Believe, is bought by Stefano Botti for 24,000gns. The filly has run twice to date over 7f for trainer Richard Fahey, with a fourth at Newcastle last time out over 7f.
The filly is out of Model, whose best run came when second in the Listed Prix Six Perfections (L). (12:01)
Lot 1254: "He has been bought for Natalia Lupini and Craig Bryson," said Dan Astbury after going to 40,000gns for Bishopton (Invincible Spirit). "He looks a lovely horse and should make up into a nice three-year-old, he is improving, he looks like he has plenty of scope. I think they will give him a break now and bring him back in the spring."
Already a gelding, Bishopton, who was bred and owned in training by Aiden Murphy, is out of Edaraat (Rahy), a daughter of the 1994 champion three-year-old Mehthaaf (Nureyev).
Trained by Murphy's son Olly, the two-year-old gelding has run three times, finished third on his last two starts at Ffos Las and at Ripon. (11:30)
Lot 1204: the Camelot two-year-old colt Wolf Rayet, who has had three runs with Donnacha Aidan O'Brien, bred and raced by Flaxman Stables, is bought by Creighton Schwartz Bloodstock for 32,000gns
Consigned by Baroda Stud, the colt is out of Martini Glass (Kitalpha), the winner of ten races, including the Azeri Stakes (G2) and the Royal Delta Stakes (G30. She was placed six times in stakes races, the best results coming when second in the Delaware Handicap (G1) and the Spinster Stakes (G1). (10:52)
Lot 1189: Phoebus, who has run twice for trainer Stuart Williams, is bought by Ahmed Hassan Al Jehani for 38,000gns.
The juvenile colt by Earthlight, and out of the Invincible Spirit mare Earth Goddess, from the family of the 2007 champion Irish two-year-old filly Listen, the 2,000 Guineas winner Henrythenavigator, the champion older horse Magician, Ascoli Piceno, a champion in Japan. (10:18)

Lot 1129D: High Season (GB) 2022 B.C. >> New Bay (GB) EX Dark Promise (GB) >> Kingsley Park >> Ramzi Alghul >> 250,000gns (20:55)
Lot 1129A: La Bellota, a juvenile colt by Mehmas, is bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 425,000gns. Tom Biggs was in charge of bidding, acting on behalf of Richard Brown who is travelling to Del Mar for the weekend's racing.
The colt, winner of the Prospect Stakes (L), runner-up in the Mill Reef Stakes (G2) and fourth in the Cornwallis Stakes (G3), was sold by John Ryan Racing, Ryan having purchased him this spring at the Tattersalls Guineas Sale for just 52,000gns from breeder Tally-Ho Stud
"He is the best 'freelance' two-year-old on the market at the moment, and is 105 rated," said Ryan. "He has performed better than most out there, to be honest it is bitter-sweet to lose him. But, at the end of the day, we bought him well and have sold him well."
He added: "He is a superstar, a lovely horse to train, and anyone would love to have this horse in their yard – but he will carry the name La Bellota and we can follow him, I think he is a very special horse. I hope he goes on to be what I think he could be."
Ryan explained the origin of the name La Bellota: "Owner Gerry McGladery named the horse after his villa in Marbella. La Bellota means acorn, and from acorns big things can grow." (20:18)
Lot 1117: "This the one we wanted," said Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock after going to 300,000gns for Hawk Power (Gleneagles) on behalf of trainer Annabel Neasham.
He added: "He is a lovely horse – we have bought a couple of others along the way, but this the horse I wanted to buy and we have been patient.
"I think he will be better on top of the ground – he has been running on soft ground and ran in a bog when third to Fast Tracker, who was sent off favourite for the French Derby, on his last start in the Listed race at Chantilly. It was bottomless ground that day and he had had a long year. He is a very well-bred horse from a pedigree that has worked in Australia. and he is out of a Street Cry mare, which was attractive, too.
"He shows up every week, he travels well, he has a good turn of foot. He is a very simple horse to like and genuinely was the horse I really wanted."
Hawk Power, who has been racing in France for trainer Andre Fabre, is out of Lyric Of Light, who won the Fillies Mile (G1) and is a daughter of Suez, who finished second in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1). (19:32)
Lot 1092: Cracksking, a son of Frankel and out of the German Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Calyxa, a daughter of Pivotal, is bought by SackvilleDonald for 190,000gns from James Fanshawe's Pegasus Stables.
The four-year-old gelding, who has been owned by Alison Swinburn and Mark Sartori, has run 13 times. He has made it it to the racecourse seven times this year and has won, finished second twice, third twice, fourth once and fifth on his seasonal debut in a field of 18. (18:43)
Lot 1068 and Lot 1069: are both bought by Najd Stud / Archdale Bloodstock from Juddmonte for 260,000gns and 380,000gns.
"They are both lovely horses," said Saud Al Qahtani. "It was more than we expected to pay, but when you buy quality you have to stretch. They have both been bought with the Kings Cup in mind – they have good form, are nice physicals and from great families."
Task Force (Lot 1068) recently finished third to Prague in the Joel Stakes (G3) having finished seventh in the 2,000 Guineas (G1) and second in the Middle Park (G1) to Vandeek as a juvenile.
He is out of the champion two-year-old filly Special Duty, winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) as a juvenile and the 1,000 Guineas (G1) and the Poule d’Essai des Poulliches (G1) at three. It is the family of Expert Eye.
Amphius, a son of Kingman, was in training with Harry Charlton and was a last time out second in a 0-90 handicap off a mark of 91. He is an own-brother to the Group 3 winner Sangarius and to the dam of the Group 1 winner Belbek. His second dam is the dual champion Banks Hill, an own-sister to Dansili, Champs Elysees, Cacique and Intercontinental.
Underbidder on Amphius and coming in with some late bids was Sean Graham, racing manager to Tony Bloom.
Najd Stud has bought 13 horses here this week so far. (17:50)
Lot 1061: the Nathaniel gelding Pappano is bought by Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins for 200,000gns. The gelding was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment.
The Rachel Hood-bred and owned gelding is a progressive sort and after winning a 0-90 1m6f handicap at Southwell in September, he has gone on to finish third in the Listed Murless Stakes over the same trip. The three-year-old is now on a career-high BHA mark of 96 and is Timeform rated 102.
"He came highly recommended by the Gosdens," said Kirk, adding: "I have been very lucky buying from the yard before. I have not bought from the stable for a couple of years, but whenever one is recommended I take note and consider seriously.
"This is a progressive sort, he will be a lovely four-year-old – he is a bit immature mentally and was not gelded until July and it all happened a bit quick for him after. Willie has not had that many by Nathaniel but those he has had have been good – Concertista being one. The options are open for this horse over hurdles and on the Flat." (17:45)
Lot 1037: Mortlake, by Churchill and formerly trained by Ralph Beckett for Quantum Leap Racing Xv & Partner I, is bought by Bjorn Baker / Barry Lynch / Clarke Bloodstock for 120,000gns.
The lightly raced three-year-old gelding was fourth last time out in the London Mile Series Qualifier off a mark 92. (17:14)
Lot 1030: Blake, from Peter Chapple-Hyam's St Gatien Stables, is bought by Kevin Ross for 130,000gns.
Bu Zoffany, and out of Love's Secret (Pivotal) he is a two-time winner over a mile and 1m2f, both victories coming this summer at Sandown. The most recent success was in July when, despite winning by just a length and a quarter, the post-race report records that he was a "comfortable" winner. (16:18)
Lot 982: "I am collecting them now!" laughed Harold Kirk who has just doubled the number of horses by dual-purpose sire Golden Horn that he has purchased, adding Poniros to his list after buying Too Bossy For Us yesterday for 330,000gns.
Owned throughout his racing career to date by Amo Racing, the three-year-old gelding has one win to his name, but was a good third off a BHA mark of 91 on his penultimate start in a heritage handicap at Ascot in September.
Kirk added: "This lad has a bit more class than yesterday's horse, and he could even be a sort to drop back in trip. He is very light on his feet, a good mover and he has again been bought as a dual-purpose type." (15:01)
Lot 969 and Lot 970: Sheikh Sultan Ding, buying online, goes to 110,000gns for Pedro Valentino (Lot 969) formerly trained by Clive Cox. The son of Phoenix Of Spain, Timeform rated 96, is the winner of three races over6f and 7f for owner Oak Lodge Racing.
He was bought as a yearling in the October Book 2 Sale by Cox for 50,000gns from breeder Round Hill Stud.
Lot 970, Archie's Angel by Dark Angel, is bought by Abdullah Salman Hamoud Alsabah. The juvenile colt has run three times – he won on debut in July over 7f, and finished second over a mile at Salisbury in September. (14:35)

Lot 869: another by Golden Horn catches the bidders' attention – Environment Amigo, sold by James Fanshawe's Pegasus Stables for the Gredley family, is bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for 50,000gns.
The three-year-old gelding has won two of his last three starts, over 1m6f and 2m, the two performances sandwiching a second-place finish at Yarmouth over 1m6f. Out of the Motivator mare Madame Defarge, who finished third in the Pretty Polly Stakes (L) and is the dam of three winners, Environment Amigo is now BHA rated 83.
It is the long-developed Gredley middle-distance pedigree – third dam Rostova is the dam of the 1992 European champion three-year-old stayer User Friendly, winner of the St Leger and a three-time Oaks winner. (12:53)
Lot 808: Highflyer Bloodstock spends 75,000gns on Courageous Strike, trained by Adrian Murray to win two races from 15 starts.
Last time out the colt stepped up to Group 3 form to take second in the Irish St. Leger Trial Stakes, the first time he had raced over as far as 1m6f. (12:17)

Lot 752: Caviar Heights is bought by Hurworth Bloodstock for 520,000gns, and the son of Sea The Stars is heading across town from Park Paddocks to join the William Haggas team at Somerville Lodge.
"He is staying in Newmarket and going to my parents," said Sam Haggas of the colt previously trained this year by Karl Burke for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum. "He is for some existing owners in the yard, who have been great supporters of my parents and myself; it is a great result.
"I hope the horse can develop into an international campaigner, my parents have had a lot of success taking horses to Sydney for the Autumn Carnival and I hope he can develop into that sort of horse, that would be the dream.
"He has been on my radar – and as one of the highest in Europe on my radar really – since after his runs in the spring, He had some very good form on his first run in Fielden Stakes behind Jayarebe, and Ambiente Friendly was a place behind him – he went onto win the Lingfield Derby Trial and was placed in two Derbys.
"Caviar Heights then put in a massive performance when he won the Newmarket Stakes, it was so impressive, especially on the clock. He beat a very good yardstick in Sayedaty Sadaty and beat him well, and that horse went on to hold up the form in the when running to a similar level [fifth] in the Derby. The Derby has some very good form lines this year, it looks a strong Derby."
Haggas added: "I am hoping that this horse can get back to that level of form, and if he can, they can have a lot of fun with him."
Of Caviar Heights' sire Sea The Stars: "Dad has been very lucky to have had the association he has had with Sea The Stars, he absolutely adores the stallion and loves training the stock. He has had some phenomenal days with his progeny, I am thinking Sea Of Class and Baaeed, there is a bit of a way to go to them! I know Dad is delighted to have a horse like this coming to his stable."
Of the nerves as the bidding climbed its heights, Haggas said: "It was not too bad, I always feeling the same when bidding whatever the amount."
Bred by Norelands & Sunderland Holding Inc, Caviar Heights was bought as a yearling by Andrew Balding in the October Book 2 Sale for 300,000gns from Norelands. (20:51)
Lot 749G: wildcard entry Delius, a Group 3 winner of the Prix du Lys, third in the Grand Prix de Paris (G1), second in the Prix Niel (G2) and eighth in the Arc de Triomphe (G1) creates a new record price for the Autumn Horses in Training Sale when bought by De Burgh Equine / McKeever Bloodstock / Go Bloodstock / Waterhouse / Bott Racing for 1,300,000gns.
Alastair Donald was involved in the early exchanges but the bidding narrowed down to an online bidder and the above group, Hubie De Burgh taking instructions ver the phone and responding quickly to the online party's moves.
"It is a joint venture," said De Burgh. "It is for Sir Owen Glenn's Go Bloodstock, who has had some good horses including Lady Of Camelot, trained by Gai. He wants a Cup horse, and Gai did as well, so this joint venture came together."
Of the colt, bred by David and Trish Brown of Furnace Mill Stud, and owned in training by Magnier, Smith, Tabor & Westerberg, purchased as a yearling by MV Magnier for 675,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2021, De Burgh said: "What can I say about him? He is a son of Frankel, he is Timeform rated 118, he has raced six times, he has won over 1m2f and 1m4f and he has a perfect profile for Australia. His only slight disappointing run was in the Arc when he hated the ground.
"It is a lot of money, but that is what this sort of horse costs. We have been trying to buy this horse for a long time and I had Stevie O'Connor, Sir Owen's racing manager, on the phone and he was quick to come back with the bids.
"It was going to be hard to buy the horse on our own, it is a lot of money, so by joining up with Gai and us all getting involved and it has given us this opportunity to compete with Chris Waller, Ciaron Maher and all the others." (20:31)
Lot 734: Astute Bloodstock / Ciaron Maher go to 410,000gns for Mr Monaco (Territories), the penultimate lot from the Imperium Sales draft. Gai Waterhouse's agent Claudia Fitzgerald standing with Johnny McKeever was underbidder.
The three-year-old, bred by Bearstone Stud, was originally purchased by Elliott as a yearling for just £35,000.
Will Bourne said: "We’ve cross referenced with Louis le Metayer of Astute Bloodstock. It’s always reassuring when a guy like him also wants to buy because he bought Harlem, the Australian Cup winner, here a few years ago. He wanted to team up to buy this horse, he picked him out and we really liked him too and Ciaron’s thrilled to get the chance to train him. He’s shown very consistent form and Louis loved his physique, as well as his ability as a three-year-old racing against the older horses."
Harlem (Champs Elysees) was bought by SackvilleDonald / Astute Bloodstock at this sale in 2016, the pair buying from Juddmonte Farms and spending 520,000gns.
After the sale of Black Run, the last of the draft through the ring, Elliott said: "They are four super horses, Mr Monaco was above where I though the would bem but when I saw Claudia lock up with Will Bourne, I could see the horse making a good price.
"It is a great price for Hutchence, I think he is a very good horse. He is just getting it together – he was a late foal and a late developer. He was very immature, but he has slowly got it all together. Ralph was very sweet on him and I think he could be a Cup horse next year.
"The Coles did a great job with Black Run, he is going to Australia, too, bought by Stuart Bowman of Blandford Bloodstock for Annabel Neasham Racing, while the first in the ring tonight King Of Bears was bought by George Scott."
Of this year's sale after Imperium debuted at the Autumn Horses in Training Sale last year, Elliott said: "They all made about what I thought, there was a couple of nice surprises. There was a lot of pressure after last year, I wanted to back those results up.
"The team did it and horses did it, and again I was very proud to stand there and see the horses sell well for the clients – it will keep the clients happy as there are a lot of yearlings to pay for!" (20:05)
Lot 733: Hutchence will be joining the plane load of horses heading to the southern hemisphere, bought by the regular Tattersalls buyer Guy Mulcaster for trainer Chris Waller, the team spending 460,000gns on the colt, wh owa sold by Alex Elliott's Imperium Sales for Valmont.
"He came highly recommended from the Beckett stable, we thought he had good form and we like the horse," said Mulcaster. "He is probably done it all on one preparation, so I think there is a little bit of juice still left in the lemon! We will take him home, poke along and see how we go.
"We won't be in any mad rush, he has done it all in such little time – I think he will keep finishing and will appreciate the sun on his back! I thought he would make that sort of money, it has been hard to buy this week."
The three-year-old, who ran twice at two, has now won three races from nine starts, winning over 2m on his last start of a handicap mark of 89 – he has been reassessed to 97 after that success.
Bred by Gerhard Schoeningh, as a yearling the colt was purchased from Fittocks Stud by Elliott at the 2022 October Book 1 Sale for 310,000gns (19:38)
Lot 727: the Group 3 winner Klondike (Galileo) is bought by Alastair Donald for 240,000gns from the William Haggas Somerville Lodge draft.
"He is for a new Hong Kong-based client, who was looking for a horse in Australia and this was our main target," said Alastair Donald. "He was a Group 3 winner, his form speaks for itself, he is a very good looking horse and I think it was a very sensible price. He goes to Australia, the options there are extraordinary and is probably going to be trained by He probably will be going to John O'Shea."
Klondike has form on both fast ground and a softer surface and this adaptability was one of his attractions for Donald.
"Sydney-based horses need to be able to handle the soft, but sound enough to take fast ground," he said. "In the old days it just used to be fast ground horses you wouldneed to buy, but for Sydney, anyway, you now need a pretty versatile horse ground-wise."
Donald added of his new client : "He bought his first horse in Singapore and he contacted me out of the blue."
Bred by Fittocks Stud, the four-year-old colt was raced in partnership of Jonsson/Magnier/Tabor/Fittocks Stud. He won the 1m4f Prix d Reux (G3) at Deauville in August, a third career success. (19:25)
Lot 695: it was a three-way split for the purchase of True Legend – the Camelot colt from Heath House Stables was bought by the Ian Williams / Jamie Piggott / Middleham Park for 140,000gns.
The four-year-old, second over 2m at the beginning of October at Ascot, running off a BHA mark of 92 for Sir Mark Prescott, is the winner of three races, his first career victory coming in a 0-65 handicap in which he was allotted a rating of 63.
The colt is out of the Peintre Celebre mare Scarlet And Gold, and she is a half-sister to the Prix du Jockey-Club winner Le Havre and the Group 3 winner Astronereus. It is also the family of the champion older sprinter Polar Falcon. (18:44)
Lot 679: Jacob Pritchard-Webb was taking a few deep breaths after buying the 95-rated Goodwood Odyssey for 110,000gns saying, "That was the first time I have spent over six figures on a horse, it was a bit nerve wracking, could you not tell by the facial expressions when I was bidding!"
While it would be supposed that the ex-NH jockey would be buying a middle-distance runner off the Flat to go jumping, the son of Ulysses is in fact taking a very different path, and is heading east to Czechia.
"Dr Jiri Charvat, one of the biggest owners in Czech, does have mainly jumpers and I got the contact through his retained NH jockey Jan Faltejsek, but the Dr also has a few on the Flat, too, and wanted to add to that string," explained Pritchard-Webb. "Jan recommended me and I met Dr Charvat in June at a qualifier for the Pardubice."
Pritchard-Webb, who has been developing his bloodstock agent's role for the last three years, added: "I have now bought Dr Charvat three horses all at considerably different costs and with differing profiles – the first was a three-year-old NH store who cost just £2,500, so they are certainly putting me through my paces! The order here was to get a three-year-old, rated over 90 and who wants 1m4f."
Of the plans now for Goodwood Odyssey, he said: "He will have a winter off now, the aim is to target him for some big pots in Czech and Slovakia next year, and if he does well we can then dip our toe into Germany and France. There is also a vey big race in Poland that he could target as well, while jumping might beckon in the future. " (18:28)
