Lot 101:
the Galileo colt out of Koora (Pivotal) makes 600,000gns. He was bought by MV. Magnier, with the underbidder Amanda Skiffington.
Koora was a Group 3 winner of the St Simon Stakes and finished fourth in the Pretty Polly Stakes (G1). She is a daughter of Kithanga (Darshaan), also a winner of the St Simon Stakes, and dam of the champion three-year-old stayer of 2001, Milan.
"He is an exceptional colt out of a very good mare who has started off very well. In today's market it is a good price," said Luca Cumani of Fittocks Stud. "Koora has a Kingman filly foal, she did not get in foal to Wootton Bassett this spring and will hopefully go to Frankel next year."
Koora has two foals of racing age, including the Group 2 Queen's Vase winner Kemari (2018, Dubawi), who was her first foal. He was bought by Godolphin at this sale in 2019 for 400,000gns.
(15:37)
Lot 64:
the Lope De Vega filly out of How (Galileo) becomes the most-expensive filly so far when fetching 475,000gns, bought by Godolphin from Longview Stud.
How is a daughter of the Group 1 winner Lillie Langtry (Danehill Dancer), dam of Minding, the champion two and three-yea-old filly in Europe in 2015 and 2016, and champion older mare in 2017, the winner of seven Group 1 races.
(14:51)
Lot 63:
the first yearling by the US Triple Crown winner Justify to sell at Park Paddocks fetches 450,000gns bought by Elliott / McElroy. The colt is the most expensive yearling by the first-crop sire to sell in Europe so far.
In 2018, Justify (Scat Daddy) became the 13th winner of the American Triple Crown after American Pharoah's Triple Crown victory in 2015. He went through his career undefeated in six starts, four of the victories being Grade 1 races.
This colt was bred by the China Horse Club, sold by Baroda Stud, and is a first foal out of the Galileo mare Shamardal, a half-sister to the dual champion and leading sire Shamardal from the family of Street Cry, Victor Ludorum and sire Territories, who produced his first Group 1 winner at the weekend courtesy of Rougir's Prix de la Opera victory at ParisLongchamp.
Justify has three further lots catalogued in Book 1 this week – Lot
107, Lot
256, Lot
432 and in Book 2, Lot 1235.
(14:42)
Lot 49:
the Lope De Vega colt sold by Whatton Manor Stud on behalf of breeder St Albans Bloodstock (Andrew Stone) makes 725,000gns, bought by Anthony Stroud for Godolphin. He is the first foal out of the Group 1 Premio Lydia Tesio winner God Given (Nathaniel), the last Group 1 winner for the now-retired trainer Luca Cumani.
"He moved extremely well, he is very light on his feet, he behaved very well here," said Stroud. "He is out of a very good mare from the family of Postponed, whom we know well, and Lope De Vega we like very much. We think he is very very nice horse."
Ed Player of Whatton Manor said: "We are delighted to have horses nice enough to come to Book 1, we have always aspired to have horses for Book 1.
"Andrew Stone of St Albans has entrusted us with God Given, we had Bianca Nera [third dam] at the farm a long time ago, it has come full circle. We are absolutely delighted with the price, he such a good walking horse, he walks for fun, he has not put a foot wrong here."
He added: "It is our best price ever, Whatton Manor sold a Cadeaux Genereux for 650,000gns, but that was before my time! This is also Andrew's highest price, too.
"God Given is at the farm and she has a Dubawi colt foal and she is back in-foal to Siyouni, She is a beautiful mare, we are lucky to have her. The team has done an amazing job prepping the horse so well and shown him so well here," added Player.
Broodmare sire Nathaniel sired his first Group 1 winner in that capacity at ParisLongchamp at the weekend – Zellie (Wootton Bassett) out of his daughter Sarai won the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1). The son of Galileo has only had six runners so far out of his daughters.
Five lots later, Whatton sold a Rabbah Bloodstock-bred Sea The Stars colt out of Gumriyah, a Shamardal half-sister to Legatissimo (Danhill Dancer) for 260,000gns.
(13:47)
Lot 39:
the full-brother to the three-time Group 1 winner Advertise (Showcasing) is bought by trainer Kevin Ryan for 450,000gns.
Bred and sold by Cheveley Park Sud, the colt is a grandson of Red Tiara (Mr Prospector), who was bought in the US by Cheveley in 1997.
Advertise is one of three winners at the highest level by the Whitsbury Manor Stud-based stallion, alongside Mohaather and Quiet Reflection.
(13:03)
Lot 27:
at the 2018 Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale, Klaravich Stables purchased the Kingman colt out of Urban Castle for 300,000gns. The Highclere Stud-consigned yearling was subsequently named Domestic Spending and he has gone on to win three Grade 1 races, including the Manhattan Stakes (G1) at Belmont in June. He has picked up over $1 million in prize-money earnings, is trained by Chad Brown and features on the Book 1 catalogue back cover.
Seth Klarman's ownership operation Klaravich is aiming to repeat the feat and went to 300,000gns for Mountarmstrong Stud's Kingman colt out of Fine Time, an own-sister to Passage Of Time, Father Time and Continuum. She was bought by Stroud Coleman from Juddmonte Farms at the Tattersalls December Sale for 420,000gns.
(12:46)
Lot 5:
a fine pinhook result for Culworth Grounds Farm – the Night Of Thunder colt, bred by Tugay Akam out of the Lord Shanakill dam Elis Eliz, was bought here last December for 75,000gns from Houghton Bloodstock, sells today for 300,000gns. He is bought by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock.
It is another top price at Tattersalls for the farm, which is run by Sophie Buckley in Northamptonshire.
The colt is the first pinhook of this year's sale to be offered.
(11:24)
Lot 1:
we get off to a flyer, the very first lot in the ring today – the bay colt by Kingman out of the Listed Boadicea Stakes winner Eartha Kitt (Pivotal), daughter of the Queen Mary Stake (G2) winner Ceiling Kitty, makes 525,000gns.
The March 11-born colt, bred and sold by Chasemore Farm (Ceiling Kitty, the first in the family bred by the farm, sadly lost when foaling Arthur Kitt in 2016) was bought by Anthony Stroud for Godolphin with trainer Roger Varian underbidder.
A great start to the October Sale for Andrew and Jane Black's Chasemore Farm – it is the farm's best-ever result to date at Park Paddocks.
Farm manager Jack Conroy was said: "It is always a bit daunting being the first lot in the ring, but we went back through the stats and in 2013 the first lot in made 600,000gns, so we were hopeful. He has come here and handled everything really well, it has made a man of him.
"We knew he'd go ok, he was busy and the right people were looking at him, but that is a great result, probably better than we were expecting. Andrew and Jane were here to see him sell – our previous best was the sale of the Shalaa out of Illaunmore here last year for 290,000gns.
"It is poignant as the family is very special to the farm. He has gone to good hands so let's hope he goes on and is successful."

Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of the 2021 Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“We are absolutely delighted with today’s inaugural Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale. We had no choice but to relocate last year’s Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale to Park Paddocks and it proved to be a great success, which made the decision to rebrand and permanently relocate the fixture a relatively straightforward one. Sale turnover of double last year’s wide margin record level as well as huge rises in average and median fully vindicate the decision and suggest that the Somerville Yearling Sale can legitimately be regarded as Europe’s most progressive yearling sale.
“There has been a genuinely vibrant atmosphere around Park Paddocks for the past few days and just as with last week’s Tattersalls August Sale, it has been a pleasure to have been able to conduct the Somerville Yearling Sale without the need for any restrictions. We have welcomed buyers from throughout Europe and further afield, but perhaps the most encouraging feature of today’s sale has been the prolific number of British trainers who have been active.
"They have all contributed to a sale which has produced more lots sold for 50,000 guineas or above than the previous four Ascot Yearling Sales combined, a record top price of 120,000 guineas and a clearance rate well over 80%.
“We should also pay tribute to the consignors, both British and Irish, who have allowed us to take this sale to a new level. They have supported the sale with quality stock and their confidence in the sale and the venue has been rewarded. The inaugural Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale has been energetically and widely promoted, not least with the introduction of the £100,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes, and the enthusiastic response from buyers is a positive indicator as we look forward to the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale and Books 1 to 4 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale."

Lot 286:
the second filly by Jungle Cat sells for 60,000gns. She was consigned by Jamie Railton and is a half-sister to the Listed placed Umneyati, and a grand-daughter of Flower Girl, winner of the Goldene Peitsche (G3) and dam of the Group 3 winner Eco Friendly.
His two lots have sold for an average price of 50,000gns.
Jungle Cat, winner of the Al Quoz Sprint (G1), is a son of Iffraaj and stood one season at Kildangan Stud. He now stands in Australia.
(20:32)
Lot 273:
"He is by Night Of Thunder, a proper sire, and he is a good solid colt. He is out of mare who had a lot of ability, a High Chaparral mare who won as a two-year-old. I just liked him as an individual," said Kevin Ross after going to 78,000gns for the colt consigned by Whatton Manor Stud.
Dam Fleabiscuit ran just twice, winning on her first start, a performance that saw her awarded a BHA rating of 88.
Of today's trade Ross added: "It has been a strong sale, anything we liked it has been hard to get them."
(20:09)
Lot 271:
two fillies by first-crop sire Jungle Cat are catalogued in the Somerville Sale and this good-walking half-sister to the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup placed Ventura Rebel makes 40,000gns. She is bought by Alex Elliott from Bearstone Stud.
(20:02)
Lot 236:
the Galloway Stud-consigned Zoustar filly is bought by MC Bloodstock for 70,000gns. She is out of the Oasis Dream mare Cordial, and is a grand-daughter of the US Grade 3 winner Mirabilis, dam of the Group 3 winner Monarchs Glen. It is the further family of the Group 1 Prix de Diane winner Nebraska Tornado.
Coridal has had two winners from two runners, all her foals of racing age to date. She was bought at the Tattersalls February Mixed Sale in 2014 by Stuart Williams for 25,000gns from the Juddmonte draft.
It is a very active family and the pedigree has enjoyed three updates since the catalogue was published. Two last minute updates came in yesterday – Cordial's Helmet filly Libertine Belle won at Brighton, while Monarchs Glen finished third in the Grade 3 WinStar Mint Million Stakes at Keeneland.
Back at the end of July, Passional won her fifth race and then in August collected a second place at Newmarket.
Stuart Thom of Galloway Stud said: “She’s a homebred. The dam went to Ireland, but unfortunately she died last year.
"The team at home has done a fantastic job with her, she looked fantastic and never put a foot wrong the whole sale. We usually have about a dozen through the yearling sales, so we’ve ones coming up for Book 2, Book 3 and December. This is a very good start to a long season!
"We have been following the sire in Australia; people haven’t quite picked up on him here but I am sure they will next year when they start winning.
"We were always hoping she would make a good price and that is slightly over what we’d thought so I am delighted. She had 150 shows so she’s been walked off her feet and I’ve done a few steps as well!
"We consigned at this sale last year when it moved to Newmarket and it has been really successful. Tattersalls have done a marvellous job, the quality of the catalogue is just fantastic."
(18:57)
At one stage
today's 120,000gns sale topper was lucky to get to Tattersalls at all – the lorry bring the two Petches Farm yearlings was involved in a crash, necessitating the yearlings on board having to swap transport on the road.
Petches stud manager Ollie Costello, who was following the lorry to Newmarket and was about five minutes behind, said: "The lorry was run off the road, it is write off. I rang Keith Harte, whose farm is only five minutes away, he jumped in his own lorry and came out to us, he was with us really quickly and both horses were hardly on the damaged lorry. Both behaved impeccably and swapped over on the road.
"Thank god everyone involved and the horses were all ok, and today's result is fantastic – I am so pleased for all the team."
(18:47)
With 201 horses offered
and three-quarters of the way through the sale, the current stats are as follows:
Median: 18,000gns
Average: 21,921gns
% sold: 85%
Aggregate: 3,726,000gns
(18:16)
Lot 206:
the son of Twilight Son becomes the first six-figure lot at the first-ever Somerville Sale – the colt consigned by Petches Farm making 120,000gns, bought by Adam Driver of the Global Equine Group.
Petches Farm is owned by Baileys Horse Feeds' managing director Paul Venner, and his son Simon Venner, the firm's sales director, was on hand to chat about the sale.
He said: "We weren't quite expecting to that level, we were very hopeful as we knew we were bringing a nice individual to the sale. All the right people were on him. He has always been quite an eye-catcher, very strong and straightforward, and he has not taken too much work. He has been flat out since getting here. He showed himself off greatly, I think he owned this runway in the Further Yard, he caught a few eyes. He had a few vettings, it is nice when it works out."
Putting on his sales hat, Venner added: "Obviously Petches is linked with Baileys so nice to show that the feed works!"
He added: "Ollie Costello joined us last November as stud manger and it is one of the reason why we are doing yearlings, it is great result for him and the team."
The mare Baileys Jubilee was a Listed winner in France and finished third in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1). However, when she came out of racing she was suffering with laminitis and hopes were not high. She is now an 11-year-old, has had six foals and according to Veneer is doing very well. Many of the "Baileys" mares are kept in France at Haras des Trois Chapelles, but she is at Petches, kept close to home and closely monitored. She is in-foal to Oasis Dream, but does not have a foal at foot this year as she was given a breeding break.
Purchaser Adam Driver said: "We will get him back to Jo Fenton's and she will work her magic, break him in and get him backed. He is a strong solid horse, so we will see what he shapes up into. He is for Raed El Youssef for whom we bought some breeze up horses for. We've had a bit of luck with the breeze up horses so he thought he'd buy a few yearlings. No trainer has been decided upon yet.
"This is the only horse that I bid on and he is the only horse on my short list."
(18:13)
Lot 188:
at the Tattersalls October Book 2 Sale 2019 Nigel Tinkler Bloodstock and Jamie Piggott spent 50,000gns on a colt by Awtaad. He was subsequently named Isla Kai, is now a four-time winner, has only once in seven runs finished out of the first four places and last time out finished a half-length second in a Class 2 handicap. He is now BHA rated 95.
Tinkler and Piggott rolled the dice again today on this Tally-Ho Stud-consigned filly by Awtaad. This time the duo spent 65,000gns on the half-sister to the Listed Dragon Stakes runner-up Mojomaker (Mehmas) from the family of the Group 2 winner Independence, the dam of Mount Nelson and Monitor Closely. It is the extended family of the three-year-old champion and Derby winner, Reference Point.
"Isla Kai could be anything," said Piggott. "This filly is big and strong."
(17:21)
Lot 173:
the first yearling colt by Expert Eye to sell at Park Paddocks makes 80,000gns, bought by Freddy Tylicki with Smarden Thoroughbreds and Steve Bradley.
Bids came from all around the sale ring for the grey colt, bidders included Middleham Park Stud, Tessa Hethrington and Peter Nolan, but it was Tylicki in the gangway who was victorious. He was sold by Kilminfoyle House Stud, pinhooked by JC Bloodstock for 41,000gns, the most expensive pinhook offering today.
"I loved him, I thought he was the pick of the sale, I am very taken as to how well Expert Eye is throwing them," said Tylicki. "This is for a client, and we were very keen on this lad. There is a lovely update on the page as well and this horse has it all going for him.
"No trainer is planned yet, we will chat and make plans. This is the one we wanted and we've got him so we are delighted. He has a lovely physique, great walk to him, plenty of presence, very good eye to him. He ticked a lot of the boxes – probably all of them!"
The colt has a lovely page – he is a half-brother to two stakes winners, Cay Dancer (Danehill Dancer), the winner of five races including the Bewitch Stakes (G3), and Dynamic, a Listed winner and Group 3 placed in France.
The dam is a winning Dalakhani half-sister to Balisada, winner of the Coronation Stakes (G1). It is the extended family of the talented horses Inchmurrin, Miss Keller and Harbour Law.
The update as referenced by Tyliciki is that Cay Dancer is now the dam of a two-time winner Highland Rocker (Gleneagles), now BHA rated 91.
(16:47)
Lot 141:
the Brazen Beau filly out of Super Midge (Royal Applause) sold by Kirtlington Stud is bought by Amanda Skiffington for 45,000gns.
The filly is a half-sister to Squash (Pastoral Pursuits), who finished second in the Nell Gwyn Stakes (G3), and to three further winners, while their dam is a full-sister to Prix Eclipse winner Tremar.
The immediate pedigree also includes the Grade 2 winner Grassy, the Sun Chariot Stakes (G2) winner Lady In Waiting, Savannah Bay, won won the Prix du Lutece (G3), and the Princess Margaret Stakes (G3) winner Maid For Walking.
(15:57)
Lot 138:
the colt by new young Tally-Ho Stud sire Kessaar (Kodiac), one of three colts by the sire catalogued here, is bought by Oliver St Lawrence Bloodstock for 45,000gns.
"He goes to Phil Makin and Steve Burdett, hopefully he can win some nice two-year-old races and we can put on our top hats!" said St Lawrence.
Of trade at the inaugural Somerville Sale, Lawrence likened it to today's weather: "It is hot!"
(15:25)
Lot 128:
Scarlett Knipe's Cobhall Court-bred and consigned filly by Ardad and out of the Lujain mare Sparkling Eyes makes 85,000gns, she was bought online by Robson Aguiar with Amo Racing.
"We sell foals mainly – I am going home now to do 11 foals that will be here in December!" said Knipe, adding "However, we will keep the fillies to sell as yearlings."
Of this filly, Knipe said: "This filly was never really in the box here, and she has been as good as gold, a joy to deal with. The dam is in-foal to Havana Grey and she had a colt foal by Tasleet. I like to go for good-looking sires, ones that I hope are going to come out straight and correct. I bought her in-foal carrying Pea Shooter, but she is getting older now."
Aguair also bought Lot
100 and explaining his purchase of the two fillies he said: "I like the Tasleet filly, she stood out for me, she has a good walk, is strong, she looks sharp and looks like a two-year-old. I bought her to breeze and she looks like a Royal Ascot filly.
"I bought a few by Ardad last year and I breezed Perfect Power, and Ardad himself. This sale is a good investment as I pay the price they are worth, and if they are good you can sell them on. I also purchase Lot
112, a Cityscape filly, she is very athletic, she is a nice filly, I like the way she walked and the way she behaved.
"I am happy with my purchases – I don't mind if I buy fillies or colts, I like to buy horses that I think will be good racehorses. I look at everything in the catalogue and make a short list of five or six and try to buy them."
(15:15)
Lot 105:
Canice Farrell of Knockatrina House bought the mare Sahool at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2016 for 4,500gns.
In 2017 her three-year-old colt by Pivotal named Larraib made his racecourse debut a winning one. He subsequently went to win two more on the bounce, and was Group 3 placed that season. The following year he won his Group 3 at Ascot and achieved a BHA rating of 112.
Sahool's 2020 filly by Kodiac went through the ring as a foal but was not sold. As a yearling she has justified Farrell's faith, as well as that modest investment in Sahool, when making 70,000gns, bought by Roger Marley and Kevin Ryan.
"I have kept a daughter and she is in-foal to Kodiac," said Farrell. "This is a phenomenal filly, she has got a great mind, she is a lovely athletic filly and I like her a lot. She had a 100 plus shows. We've had a lot of good horses over the years, three or four Group 1 winners, but I really think she will be a Royal Ascot filly, she is a real racehorse. I have sold one or two to Kevin in the past, I hope she is lucky for him."
Of the reasoning behind the decision to offer her at the inaugural Somerville Sale, Farrell said: "I thought she might get a bit lost in Book 2, but she is in the top 10 per cent here. The man who has done all the work with her is Brendan Cooney."
Marley said: "She is for Kevin and for an existing client in the yard. Kodiac needs no introduction and she has a great pedigree, we will see what happens."
Under the second dam is the Group 1-placed Gutaifan and Maraahel, and the Group 1 winners Ventura Storm and Mustashry.
(14:32)
Lot 100:
the sixth yearling by Tasleet to sell at Park Paddocks makes 75,000gns to an online bid from Robson Aguiar.
She was sold by Trickledown Stud on behalf of Richard Tucker's Nelson Farm, and consignor Paul Thorman was on duty at the ring.
"She is one that just has everything, she has just got such a good mind on her. She just enjoyed being shown, walking up and down in a heatwave!" smiled Thorman. "She had a half-brother who was rated over 100, and auctioneer Ollie [Fowlston] said when she was in the ring that she could be a Queen Mary filly – I know we all like to think it of our fillies, but I really think she could be.
"Hey, anyone could consign a filly like her, she consigned herself!"
Of her sire, Thorman added: "Lots of people are saying by the end of October he'll be the one we'll all be talking about, there are some nice ones round."
Tasleet is a son of Showcasing, he won the Duke of York Stakes (G2), and stands at Nunnery Stud at a fee of £5,000.
(14:13)
Lot 66:
Paul McCartan enjoyed a celebratory and well-deserved bottle of water in the shade after the sale of his Starspangledbanner filly.
He reported that he was delighted with her price of 50,000gns, which was given by the Lambourn-based trainer Clive Cox.
"She is a very nice individual, we picked this sale so that she would be a bit of a stand-out," said McCartan, adding: "It is a sale that is on an upward curve, it qualifies her for two races which is a plus, and any sale in Newmarket is fine by me!
"Our next sale here is the Fairyhouse sale that is taking place here, and then we have a nice draft for Book 1, 2 and 3 – the headline act will hopefully be the full-brother to Battaash. He is gorgeous horse."
The four-time Group 1 sprinter Battaash, of course, was retired this year, but the Ballyphilip Stud stakes race record has continued to enjoy success this summer.
"We got a couple of stakes winners, including Garrus, who won a Group 3 in August, and there is a three-year-old filly called White Lavender from this family, and she looks very promising," said McCartan. "She did not make it to the sales and is trained by Joe Murphy. She won first time out at Navan and was an unlucky second in the Listed Abergwaun Stakes. She looks very exciting."
Cox is a regular buyer from the Ballyphilip Stud nursery and has trained family members Extension, Harry Angel and Supremacy to the highest levels.
He said: "It is family that has been extremely successful for us, there are many fond memories all the way down the page really. This filly is a lovely filly – she has a very athletic walk, a very strong hip, there are a lot of similarities to the family and I am delighted to get her. She does not have an owner as yet."
Of the Middle Park Stakes (G1) winner Supremacy, who ran at the weekend and finished down-the-field in the Haydock Sprint Cup (G1), Cox updated: "He came back fine, it was a little disappointing. He was a top-class performer at two, and is not quite reaching that level this year, but he is fine."
(13:10)
Lot 49:
Miss Poppy (Averti), a half-sister to the champion older European sprinter and sire Kyllachy, is the dam of four winners from seven runners, with her leading earner Bettys Hope, winner of the Weatherbys Super Sprint.
Sadly, Llety Farms lost the mare this spring, but this sale of her colt by Cotai Glory gave some recompense when fetching 47,000gns, the most one of her progeny has made in the ring.
"This colt is a homebred, and we are thrilled with this sale, he is a lovely straight-forward horse. He has been very busy since he got here and vetted well," said David Hodge of Llety.
The colt was bought by Roger Marley, who said: "The colt has been bought for Kevin Ryan, he is going to Yorkshire and has been bought on spec. He is a nice straight-forward colt and Kevin has had a good one by the sire [Group 2 winner Atomic Force], he likes the sire, who has had a very good year. There is plenty of speed in the family and Kevin likes speed!"
(12:13)
Lot 37:
this filly by Prince Of Lir and out of Mairead Anne (Elusive Quality) sold by Mount Eaton Stud makes 40,000gns.
She is a half-sister to five winners from six runners and seven foals of racing age out of the mare and was bought by Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah.
(12:03)
Lot 36:
the only colt in the sale by Acclamation makes 45,000gns, Will Douglass signing the docket.
"Acclamation is a very very good stallion," he said. "This is a really good moving, lovely horse, he really stood out. He will go to Hannon's, he knows what to do with Acclamations, and is for Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah, the owner of Gubbass."
Gubbass is a son of Mehmas, and so a grand-son of Acclamation.
The colt was sold by Clonmult Farm and is out of the New Approach mare Maiden Approach, the winner of four races from two to four years of age.
He was bred by Rachel Robinson's Rbr Bloodstock. Robinson has particular reason to be a fan of Acclamation – she is the office manager and in charge of nominations at Rathbarry's Glenview Stud.
"He is lovely colt, the sire is fabulous and he has been very good to me," said Robinson. "We came here because we thought he would stand out as an individual, James [Sheehan of Clonmult] was very keen on this sale and it has worked out really well, we are delighted with the price. The mare has a colt foal by Kodi Bear and she is back in-foal to him as well."

Welcome
to a beautiful sunny day at Park Paddocks for the inaugural one-day Somerville Sale.
(09:02)
Chairman’s Statement:
At the conclusion of the 2021 Tattersalls August Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
"Last year’s inaugural Tattersalls August Sale, which was born out of Covid-related disruption to the racing calendar, was a huge success and the second renewal has returned figures which suggest that the fixture very much has a long-term future.
"With the recent July Sale returning to its customary numbers the August catalogue was significantly smaller than last year, but the vibrance and extraordinary level of international participation, which are the hallmarks of sales of this nature at Tattersalls, have been in evidence from start to finish. Buyers from throughout Europe, the Gulf region, Australia and the USA have added to the strong domestic participation, and we have yet again hosted a sale which has achieved a clearance rate in excess of 90% and generated sustained demand in all sectors of the market.
"Equally pleasing has been the fact that the August Sale has seen a return almost to normality after more than a year of staging sales which have been hampered by Covid-related protocols. It has been a real pleasure to have welcomed so many people back to Park Paddocks as we turn our attention to the Tattersalls yearling sales season starting with the Somerville Yearling Sale next week."

Lot 411:
NH bloodstock agent Tom Malone is currently on a flight to Germany so Mags O'Toole stepped in on his behalf to buy Zabeel Champion. Sat by the acorn, O'Toole had to go to 185,000gns to see off determined competition from her underbidder Eric Cantillon.
The four-year-old colt, a half-brother to the Group 2 winner Dame Malliot, is by Poet's Voice, is rated 104, has run 14 times, won six races and £105,647 in earnings for trainer Mark Johnston and owner Jaber Abdullah. Since his first three-year-old start he has always run over 1m2f, with Johnston stepping him up to 1m4f since April of this year.
Zabeel Champion was bought as a two-year-old at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale for 20,000gns in 2019 by Rabbah Bloodstock. He was sold then by Malcolm Bastard for breeder Hascombe & Valiant Stud.
On landing in Germany, Malone sent this message: "A real champion. He is a big scopey horse, just our type of horse a chaser in the making. He came highly recommended and the owners weren't going to release him too lightly. He ticks a lot of boxes, he showed a lovely pace over 1m2f to win at Ripon, stayed 1m4f on heavy ground at Royal Ascot. A beautiful pedigree, so fingers crossed he goes on and does our job as a novice over jumps. He goes to Ditcheat."
The bay colt's sire Poet's Voice died as an 11-year-old in 2018, and his son Poet's Word now stands at Boardsmill Stud in Ireland as a NH sire at a fee of €5,000.

Lot 391 and Lot 393:
both are bought by Hubie De Burgh from Ballydoyle. Lot
391, Father's Day, is a once-placed (from two starts) Galileo colt out of the Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Fire Lily (Dansili) and from the family of Hydrangea, Hermosa and The United States, while the Listed placed Iowa (Lot
393 ) is a Galileo half-brother to the multiple graded race winner Hawksmoor and the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes winner Royal Dornoch.
Both are heading to Australia and De Burgh outlined the onward plans and purchasing strategy for the two colts.
"They are both going to Darby Racing," he said. "They’re not making any more Galileos and they love them down there. Aidan [O'Brien] does all the hard work for us; we take them down there and they are just ready to run and they win!
"Father's Day just got a huge page. His full-brother Somerset Maugham is already in Australia and won four for Lloyd Williams. It’s a great family and The United States [out of second dam Beauty Is Truth] did very well in Australia. Father's Day is a maiden as well so we have the advantage. He had a little setback when he was beaten a head so they had to stop him, but he vetted clean for us. He stays a 1m4f so everything fitted into the picture as long as he vetted clean.
"Iowa is obviously a more exposed runner, but another Galileo with a huge page. His better runs have been more recently as he has gone further in distance and he is just nailed on for Australia. He is going to be a 1m4f horse over there. His run against Masterofreality, who was second in the Melbourne Cup, and got disqualified was pretty good so for that sort of money..."
De Burgh added: "Buying these sort of horses at auction is much better value for us than if you went to buy them privately. Scott Darby of Darby Racing has done incredibly well with what he has done, but he likes the auction process as he feels that we’re buying them at better value.
"I don’t know who will train them but they will go to Sydney as that is where Darby Racing is based.
"We had Spirit Ridge [2019 Autumn HIT Sale, 100,000gns] and Harpo Marx [2019 Autumn HIT Sale, 60,000gns] who came from Tattersalls a couple of years ago and they were first and second in a Group race on Saturday, so why would you change the process if it is working? They will go to very good trainers, be well looked after and hopefully will do well."

Lot 380:
Fabilis makes 350,000gns and is the best price given yet at the August Sale in just its second year. It is the first time the 300,000gns mark has been topped at the sale.
By Frankel, the bay three-year-old colt was sold as part of the Juddmonte draft, having been in training with Ralph Beckett.
Purchaser was Peter Doyle, who was sat in the seats. Underbidder was Jason Singh taking instructions over the phone, while there was interest through the bidding from all around the ring, as well as online.
"He is for Prince Faisal bin Khalid’s Najd Stud, the Prince is a very long established client," said Doyle. "I bought for his family many years ago. He is a lovely horse, I didn't think he'd make that much, but lots of people liked him. He comes from a very good operation, it is always nice to buy a horse from Juddmonte. The horse passed all the vets very well.
"The immediate plan will be to go and race in Saudi Arabia, and aim for the Crown Prince Cup. We have had some success in the race before."
Out of the Grade 3 winner Mirabillis (Lear Fan), a half-sister to Nebraska Tornado (Storm Cat), winner of the Prix Diane (G1) and the Prix du Moulin (G1), Fabilis is a half-brother to the Darley Stakes (G3) winner Monarchs Glen.
He is three-time winner, is rated 99 and his last time out win came at Newmarket in a Class 2 handicap over 1m4f off a mark of 95. The post-race report stated that he won "comfortably".
