Lot 508:
first six-figure lot of Book 2 is a colt by Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy). It is a successful pinhook result for consignor Manister House Stud, the colt was bought here at the Tattersalls December Sale for 50,000gns by Castlehyde. Today's purchaser is SackvilleDonald.
He was bred by the Pocock family out of the mare Edessa, bought by BBA Ireland in 2017 for €26,000.
Sioux Nation, winner of the Norfolk Stakes (G3) and the Phoenix Stakes (G1) as a two-year-old, was available to breeders at a starting fee of €12,500 in 2019.

Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1
Chairman’s Statement
At the conclusion of Book 1 of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“Book 1 of last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale was widely regarded as a sale which showed remarkable resilience in the face of the well-documented challenges which we all endured, which makes the gains achieved this week even more creditable.
“Year after year Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale showcases the finest British, Irish, French and German-bred yearlings, and year after year these yearlings go on to achieve extraordinary racecourse success on the global stage. Even by the lofty standards of Book 1, 2021 has been a truly phenomenal year with the world’s highest rated three-year-old, ST MARK’S BASILICA, the world’s highest-rated miler PALACE PIER, dual Classic winner HURRICANE LANE, Europe’s highest-rated two-year-old NATIVE TRAIL and the highest-rated Turf horse in America, DOMESTIC SPENDING, all purchased at October Book 1, and it is this consistent success which brings so many of the world’s leading buyers to the sale.
“While the figures may not have returned to the dizzy heights of 2019, and the very top of the market has made an adjustment, the average, median and clearance rate have all improved significantly and the turnover have also climbed, despite a smaller catalogue. Particularly encouraging has been the depth and diversity amongst the buyers in all sectors of the market. Nine different buyers have bought yearlings for 750,000 guineas or more and in addition to the strong British and Irish participation, buyers from Abu Dhabi, Australia, Bahrain, China, Dubai, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the USA have all made significant contributions.
“Particularly notable has been the powerful American contingent. They have been a real feature of October Book 1 in recent years and the extraordinary level of racecourse success has driven even greater demand with around 50 Book 1 yearlings acquired over the past three days heading across the Atlantic. Turf racing in America continues to grow and thrive and American buyers have clearly identified Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale as the premier source of superior Turf horses.
“In addition to the major impact of the international buyers, it has also been rewarding to see that the lucrative £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus Scheme continues to entice buyers at all levels of the Book 1 market. Owners in Britain and Ireland have been rewarded with almost £7,000,000 in bonus prize-money since the scheme's inception in 2016 and to see so many owners, syndicates and trainers busy this week is a tribute to the enduring appeal of the Book 1 Bonus.
“Above all, after the rigours of last year, it has been a pleasure to have welcomed so many people back to Park Paddocks. We now turn our attention to Books 2, 3 and 4 of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and look forward to sustaining the momentum established this week at Europe’s premier yearling sale.

Once again
Newsells Park Stud is Book 1's leading consignor, a position the farm has held every year since 2018.
This year the farm has sold 22 lots for a turnover of 10,785,000gns. It is the farm's second-best aggregate at the sale after its 2018 record-breaking total of 11,055,000gns achieved in 2018.
For the second year in succession the farm sold the Book 1 top-priced lot – at the 2020 sale Newsells sold the Galileo filly out of Shastye to M V Magnier for 3,400,000gns, the sixth top price ever at the sale and the third top-priced filly.
Newsells' average was 490,227gns, second behind Stauffenberg Bloodstock's 575,000gns for two lots sold.
(18:55)
Lot 496 and Lot 497:
Peter and Ross Doyle purchase a 19th yearling this week, level with Blandford Bloodstock as the busiest buyers through Book 1.
The father and son team went to 400,000gns for the Baroda Stud-consigned daughter of Sea The Stars. She is out of Dorcas Lane (Norse Dancer) and is a half-sister to the Listed placed Atty Persse (Frankel).
The Doyle's spend this week is 3,404,000gns, while Blandford Bloodstock has spent 4,647,000gns on its 19 purchases.
SackvilleDonald has bought 18 lots for 2,805,00gns, while Mike Ryan is the leading US buyer – he has picked up 15 lots for a spend of 3,750,000gns.
(18:49)
Lot 489:
the Kodiac filly out of Diaminda goes to Westerberg for 470,000gns. Sold by Tally-Ho Stud, she is a half-sister to Lusail (Mehmas), winner of this year's July Stakes (G2).
Kodiac's average for the week is 209,333gns for 18 lots sold.
(18:41)
Lot 457:
the Grove Stud 95,000gns foal pinhook becomes a 410,000gns yearling – the son of Cracksman sold to Windfield Bloodstock . he is the highest-priced yearling to date by the Darley sire.
The colt is a half-brother to this year's Dragon Stakes (L) winner, Molecomb Stakes (G3) runner-up and Mill Reef Stakes (G2) third Fearby (Havana Gold). The mare Coolminx (One Cool Cat), a Listed-placed runner, is at Ringfort Stud.
(17:05)
Lot 428:
Godophin buys a 15th lot this week for a spend of 9,375,000gns, when going to 750,000gns for the Kingman colt out of Bristol Bay. He was sold by Camas Park Stud.
She is dam of Bay Of Poets, a Lope De Vega Listed winner and Meydan Group 2-placed colt owned by Godolphin, bought at Book 1 in 2015 for 400,000gns from Corduff Stud.
Her 2018 colt by New Bay called Bristol Hill is a winner since the catalogue was published, while her two-year-old Candy Kitchen (Lope De Vega) has been placed once from two starts.
(16:07)
Lot 411:
becomes the new Book 1 sale topper, the daughter of Sea The Stars bought by Godolphin, who outbid Coolmore, both parties in respective huddles outside by the podium.
The bidding opened up at 100,000gns and a fresh bidder came in at 600,000gns before concluding at 1.5 million guineas. It is the highest price given at Tattersalls for a yearling filly by the sire.
Breeder Robert Barnett and his wife Ann were at Park Paddocks to see the filly sell. She is a daughter of the Exceed And Excel champion two-year-old filly Best Terms, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and the Lowther Stakes (G2), and the pedigree stretches back to the Barnett's famous champion four-time Group 1-winning mare Time Charter, who was bred and raced by the Barnett family.
"We have always loved this filly," reported Barnett. "The family has been good to us, and it goes a long way back now. Best Terms boards at Newsells and she was great fun on racecourse. She has a Kingman colt foal and she is in-foal to Wootton Bassett."
Of the reasoning behind the cover to Sea The Stars to produce the Listed winner and Group 1-placed Star Terms, the 2016-born daughter of Gilltown Stud-based sire and a full-sister to this yearling, he recalled: "We always admired Sea The Stars, the look of him and the bulk of him, we try and get the right size and the right conformation for the mares."
Barnett also admitted there was a time when she might have been kept to race, but he concluded: "We were tempted to keep her, but temptation ran out a bit earlier!
"She is the most athletic yearling we have had for quite some time, you see her walking around the ring she is really has a very athletic walk. She has a lovely attitude, she is very laid back, she didn't fidget at all in the chute but, when she gets going, she gets going!"
He added: "There seems to be a good trade for well-bred fillies and breeders are buying them to race and breed from, which is nice to see."
And of the longevity of his family's breeding interests, he said: "My family has been in this racket since 1920, but I have only been on the case since about 1980! I still enjoy my racing, I don't go unless I have got a runner in a decent race."
Buyer Anthony Stroud said: Stroud said: "Needless to say she's from a very good farm, and she's just very athletic. Godolphin has had a lot of success buying fillies from this sale and she looks like one who could run well over a mile and a half and is the type we are looking for. I think this catalogue has been a bit short on fillies, and this was probably our pick.
"Coolmore was the underbidder, and I believe Juddmonte was in, and they are both fantastic judges, which shows how valuable these fillies are. We've pulled up on a few horses this week by Frankel, Sea The Stars and Kingman, but sometimes you have to put your head down and go for it."
(15:19)
Lot 398:
was sold by Chris Budgett under his Kirtlington Stud banner and it might be the last Book 1 horse sold by the farm in its current format – the stud farm in Oxfordshire is for sale and Budget is planning a slightly differing route in this industry.
The colt by Frankel was bought by Godolphin for 625,000gns and is out of Bobby Flay's Montjeu mare Auld Alliance, a half-sister to Golan and Tartan Bearer
Budgett said: "He is a great horse. You know they are above average and then there are some that are a little bit more. For me he is one of those on the next level. Who knows? They have still got to run, but he is an absolute cracking individual. I have not spoken to Bobby Flay as yet – that is the first one we have sold for him, I hope he is happy as well! Bobby is filming at the moment, so I don't know whether he will have been able to watch."
Of plans for the future, Budgett explained: "The intention is probably to finish this business as it has been to date this winter, but who knows? My children aren't interested in this so we had to make a decision what to do. If that is the last through Book 1, that is not a bad way to finish, but I also have a cracker in Book 2 and a really nice filly in Book 3.
"What happens next depends on where we buy and what we do. I have cut down from 60 mares to four, I have got three in partnership with other people. My intention, and my wife has agreed, is to buy a couple of decent mares.
"My fun in this business was always buying cheap mares with decent pedigrees and see if they can be improved. In the last ten years that has gone out of the window as that is not good enough for what the market wants, so we have cut back on all those cheap mares. So, hopefully the plan is to buy a couple of good ones and have a bit of fun.
"We have got 110 / 120 head at Kirtlington at the moment, but it is time to decide a new path."
(15:10)
Lot 383:
the Galileo ex Anthem Alexander colt is a 12th purchase this week for MV Magnier and becomes the fourth Book 1 millionaire of 2021 when fetching 1.1 million, Magnier outlasting an online bidder and Oliver St Lawrence.
He was sold by Noel O'Callaghan of Mountarmstrong Stud from a long-term family developed by the farm. Anthem Alexander, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and second in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1), is a Starspangledbanner half-sister to Dandy Man.
"He is a proper horse, let's hope he is very lucky for his new people and he is going to a proper trainer and has every chance," said O'Callaghan.
(14:01)
Lot 379:
the Dark Angel full-brother to Battaash makes 750,000gns, bought by MV Magnier.
The February-born colt was bred and sold by Ballyphilip Stud and Paul McCartan said: " Delighted with that a great price, a beautiful horse and gone to a very good home. Anna Law has been very lucky for us, she has made us plenty of money.
"This guy was the best looking one of them. I have always said that Battaash was the best-looking horse we had bred, I think this guy is better. He is straightforward. Battaash was a lovely horse and not an unkind horse, but he had his quirks. This colt is more straightforward."
Anna Law has a filly foal by Lope De Vega, who "may or may not" be sold, and she is in-foal to Blue Point.
Battaash was bought as a yearling for 200,000gns by Shadwell here in 2015, and the farm bought his 2018 full-sister in 2019 for 800,000gns. McCaratan added: "Of course, I would have liked to have seen Angus sign the docket, but it is not too bad when Coolmore are signing and Aidan O'Brien is going to be training."
Anna Law cost Ballyphilip just 14,000gns when bought as a two-year-old at the Autumn Horses In Training Sale.
(13:55)
Lot 369:
by No Nay Never and out of Alta Anna (Anabaa), this filly sold by Glenvale Stud, becomes a fourth purchase this week for Al Shira'aa Farms. She cost the emerging operation 925,00gns and was bred by Lynch-Bages & Rhinestone Bloodstock.
Kieran Lalor, Al Shira'aa Farms stud manager, said: "She is sister to Bolshoi Ballet, we thought she may have been the best physical. She is a strong filly, a lovely walker, she has good substance, and is from a good family. She comes from a great operation, we are very excited to have her."
Of the wider purchases this week and of Al Shira'aa Farms, he said: "We think we were able to buy her and the others at reasonable value.
"We are a breeding operation first and foremost, but we do race and we have had a very good year on the track this year with a couple of fillies, with one in France and with one in the US with Christophe Clement.
" These fillies will definitely be retained for long term breeding, we hope they won't come back on the market place!"
Al Shira'aa belongs to Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Al Nahyan
Lalor added: "The boss has the final say on everything! She was really keen on this filly especially, and she makes the final decision. We will sit down after this and figure where we are going to send them. They will be staying in Europe, a couple might go to the US. It is exciting times, it is very nice to have these families, they rarely become available and I don't think many of they will be coming available, for us it is a no-brainer."
(13:43)
Lot 365:
the first foal out of the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes winner Aljazzi (Shamardal) sells for 750,00gns. She was bought by Hadden Bloodstock.
"Plans have yet to de decided," said Gary Hadden. "She is a lovely filly, a fantastic race mare, I think in this market fillies are standing out as a solid investment. They are not making Galileos anymore, he is a fantastic broodmare sire and if she has some racing ability she will be a lovely broodmare. It is a lovely family with some updates."
Aljazzi was bred by Saleh Al Homaizi & Imad Al Sagar and was bought by Newsells Park at the Tattersalls December Sale in 2018 from the Blue Diamond Stud dispersal for 1 million guineas.
(12:46)
Lot 337 and Lot 338:
also sold by Newsells and from the same family – the Kingman colt out of the Group 2 winner Waldlied, a New Approach half-sister to Waldgeist, made 425,000gns bought by Klaravich Stables on one bid. Underbidder was Alex Elliott.
He was also bred by the Newsells / Ammerland partnership.
Lot
338, a colt by Sea The Stars bred by Newsells Park alone and out of Waldnah (New Approach), a half-sister to Waldlerche, the dam of Waldgeist, is bought by Charlie Gordon-Watson for 320,000gns.
(12:09)
Lot 336:
and we start the day with a bang, the very first lot in the ring, the Dubawi half-sister to the Arc winner Waldgeist, sells for 1,250,000gns. She was consigned by Newsells Park Stud on behalf of a partnership between the farm and part-breeders Gestut Ammerland.
As auctioneer Alastair Pimm declared from the rostrum, it was "a one in a lifetime to buy such a filly from this pedigree", and interest was duly high from a number of parties.
Bidders in the ring included Oliver St Lawrence, Betrand Le Metayer, and David Cox of Baroda Stud working for Al Shira'aa Farms, as well as Juddmonte Farms, who were standing outside. As the numbers climbed, those involved were reduced until it became a head to head between Cox and Juddmonte, with the former successful at the best price given so far in this year's Book 1.
She is the fourth top-priced filly by the sire to sell at Tattersalls.
Al Shira'aa Farms is a wide ranging equine concern founded by Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan from Abu Dhabi. Its base in Ireland is at Meadow Court Stud, formerly part of Abbeville Stud and bought by the new owners in 2016.
"She is by Dubawi, delighted to get her, " said Cox. "She is going to Meadow Court and they are looking forward to racing her and breeding from her in future. The Sheikha is very keen to extend the broodmare band and these Group1 families are difficult to get into," said Cox.
Al Shira'aa Farms has enjoyed a good year in the track this year, the headline act being Mutamakin, trained by Christophe Clement and the winner of the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes at Woodbine in August.
Crispin de Moubray, speaking on behalf of part-breeder Ammerland, said: 'We are delighted that she sold so well, we obviously felt that she deserved to sell well as she is a very sweet filly from a wonderful family and a wonderful mare. If you were looking for a mare to start a big breeding operation, a Dubawi out of a Monsun mare and a half-sister to an Arc winner is an obvious place to start! We wish them every luck."
Of the reasons behind the sale, De Moubray added: "As it is partnership, the simplest thing is for the progeny to come to the ring each year which is on the whole what they have done."
Al Shira'aa Farms has bought three horse so far this week.

Lot 321:
in a good old-fashioned bidding war Godolphin and Coolmore went head to head for this colt by Kingman. The two parties were standing outside and bidding to the podium, suitably socially / commercially distanced.
With a lot of thought going into every bid on both sides, eventually Coolmore emerged on top at 1,100,000gns.
The colt was sold by Corduff Stud, and is the first foal out of the Fastnet Rock's mare Turret Rocks. He was bred by Farmleigh Bloodstock. David Egan of Corduff tells the story behind the seven-figure sale.
"He is a magnificent horse, he really is. I am delighted they bought him, I was not sure they were on him, but they stood up and bought him. It is great.
"This horse was all about John Corcoran and he bred the dam with Jim Bolger, and then bought her out in training. John had a vision of what he wanted to do with the horse, he had a plan, and we own the dam with his children Andrew and Roseanne O'Grady Walshe through Farmleigh Bloodstock.
"She is a beautiful mare, she is by Fastnet Rock, she is big, she is robust, she is strong. She was so honest on the track and John, who unfortunately is not with us, but he was very involved in the mating. He chose Kingman, it is great.
"It is a great start for the mare – she has got a very nice Too Darn Hot colt at home and we bred her back to Kingman.
"The bidding took a long time, but it got more enjoyable as we went on!"
Turret Rocks won once at Group 2 level and twice was successful in Group 3s. She was runner-up in the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1), third in the Pretty Polly Stakes (G1) and fourth in the Irish Oaks (G1).
(19:01)
Lot 318:
sold by The Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of Craig Bennett's Merry Fox Stud, this daughter of Sea The Stars was bought by One Agency for Lordship Stud. The filly, who is a grand-daughter of the Group 1-placed Time Away, cost her new connections 680,000gns.
"It is wonderful to go to a 'breeding' stud, it keeps it all close," said Bennett after the sale. "She will got to a great trainer no doubt,"
He added: "Time Control was the start of it all, we came here in 2006 to buy fillies to race. We bought her as a sales topper at 1.2 million guineas. She went to Luca and she had more ability than she necessarily showed.
"We retired her and bred her and she produced 'Cursory', who we raced, and she produced the Lemon Drop Kid filly Willow View, and she has produced two Group horses. The Siyouni filly Acer Alley we owned and she is trained in France and is a Group 3-winning two-year-old. There is great depth on the page but it is all quite current on the top.
"She is in-foal to Make Believe, carrying a filly, which we will keep. Gary Hadden and I are woking out matings now, we have 24 mares."
(19:00)
Lot 317:
the Kodiac three-quarters sister to Tiggy Wiggy, the champion two-year-old of 2014, sells to an online bid of 350,000gns.
Sold by Ballyphilip Stud, this filly was bred by CBS Bloodstock out of the unraced Bated Breath mare Tiggy Two.
(18:16)
Lot 277:
the Sea The Stars colt out of the Group 3 Musidora Stakes winner So Mir Dar (Dubawi) sells for 1.2 million guineas. He was bought by Charlie Gordon-Watson on behalf of Bill Farish's Woodford Racing, the purchase the result of a last-minute phone call from the US.
Lady Lloyd-Webber of Watership Down Stud was at Park Paddocks to see her homebred colt sell, and husband Andrew Lloyd-Webber arrived at Newmarket just to time to catch the sale, too.
"I got here just in time in a taxi, just walked in at the 600,000gns mark," laughed Lord Lloyd-Webber.
"We never expected to break the million guinea barrier, because no one ever does, maybe Andrew is our lucky omen!" smiled a delighted Lady Lloyd-Webber. "It is very difficult to do that. The Dar Re Mi family is carrying on, and that is what it is all about from a foundation mare. We are now in the third generation, it is really wonderful to see this family keep going.
"He is a beautiful horse, hopefully he will win the Guineas! And then will carry on winning Group 1s like the rest of the family."
Of So Mi Dar, LLoyd-Webber updated: "She is in-foal to Lope De Vega, it is all very exciting."
Buyer Charlie Gordon-Watson said: "Bill Farish rang me just an hour ago and said, 'What about this horse? What do you think?' I told him that I thought he was the best horse I have seen at the sale.
"I know the family backwards, as Bill does, and he is a great friend of Simon's [Marsh, general manager Watership Down Stud] but he did not want to Simon to know anything about it, Simon had no idea."
Gordon-Watson added: "It all happened in the last hour and a half. I think I got the valuation right as I told Bill that I thought he'd make between 800,000gns and 1.2 million.
"I have been involved in the family all the way through, I bought Darara [third dam], and this colt is very typical of the family, perhaps a bit bigger because they are all slightly smallish, Darara was quite small. He is a very athletic horse, I have been going on about Lot
277 for a long time."
Of Farish's plans for his new colt and reasoning behind the purchase, Gordon-Watson said: "Bill liked the pedigree and the mare, everything is so international now. The horse will stay here, and no trainer has been decided as yet. He is not a horse to go to the US as a two-year-old! I think Bill probably saw an opportunity in this market."
So Mi Dar has had three foals, with her oldest named Astrologia, a 2019 Galileo filly, and yet to run. So Mi Dar is a daughter of Dar Re Mi who won six races, including the Yorkshire Oaks (G1), the Pretty Polly Stakes (G1) and the Dubai Sheema Classic (G1).
She is dam of four black-type runners, headed by the champion two-year-old and champion three-year-old miler Too Darn Hot, a three-time Group 1 winner, now a Darley sire and a full-brother to So Mi Dar.
The foundation mare Darara is dam of five black-type winners, including three Group 1 winners. The family stretches to Darshaan, a champion of 1984 and winner of the Prix Jockey-Club (G1).
(16:51)
Lot 274:
the Kingman colt out of the champion three-year-old Sky Lantern sells for 625,000gns, bought by Oliver St Lawrence.
"He is a lovely horse, out of a champion filly who has bred a good filly, just looked a proper racehorse. He has been bought for my Bahrain guys, I don't know who will train him, but he will stay in Europe," reported St Lawrence.
He was sold by Highclere Stud on behalf of the Keswick family's Rockcliffe Stud. They raced Sky Lantern's third foal Snow Lantern this year, gaining Group 1 success in the Falmouth Stakes. The Richard Hannon-trained filly holds two entries on Champions Day at Ascot.
Ed Sackville, bloodstock advisor for the Keswick family and the purchaser of Sky Lantern for Ben Keswick in 2011, said: "We are absolutely delighted, he has been bought by a great judge. He is a lovely colt and is a half-brother to a filly who has done brilliantly this year for us. Let's hope he is half as good as her."
(16:40)
Lot 265:
the amazing Round Hill Stud-developed family of Princess Serena and Serena's Song produces yet again – this Dubawi colt out of Serena's Storm makes 625,000gns bought by Godolphin.
"He has a gorgeous temperament, never ever seen him do a thing wrong," said Bobby Donworth, adding: "I hope he is very lucky for the new connections."
Donworth reflected on the pedigree. "We bought Princess Serena in the US in 2003, and she has produced all this black-type on the page for us. It is a great family, an amazing family."
Of the reasoning behind sending his mare to visit Dubawi, Donworth explained: "Rizeena [Group 1 winner by Iffraaj out of Serena's Storm] has now bred Daneh by Dubawi and she who looks like being a very good filly. Serena's Storm was barren to Ghaiyyath this spring, but she might go back to him next year."

Lot 238:
bought by US owner Craig Bernick of Glen Hill Farm, and options are open as to where the filly will be trained – possibly initially in Europe before shipping to the US.
By Kingman, she was sold by Adrian O'Brien's Hazelwood Bloodstock out of Ring The Bell, a Galileo full-sister to the Group 1 winners Hydrangea, Hermosa, The United States and a half-sister to Fire Lily. She cost her new connections 650,000gns.
"We bought a Kingman filly yesterday whom we thought was the second-best filly here and we thought this was the best,"said Bernick, who was with Hubie De Burgh. "It is a great family, a great fillies' family, there are a lot of Group 1 winners down the page. We have a filly out of Fire Lily with Jessica Harrington.
"Kingman has probably had more colts than fillies, but I can't imagine that he won't be good sire of fillies, too. She comes from a great breeder and with Hazelwood Bloodstock where we keep a lot of our mares too."
Of plans, Bernick, who has ten mares based in Europe and around four horses in training, as well as a further handful in partnerships, said: "I think she will at least start out here. I think she is a miler and our pattern is a little bit different; the really good races in the US for fillies are for older horses. It won't make a lot of sense to send her over until later anyway, so we might see if she will do some stuff over here."
Of racing in Britain and Europe, he said: "We like racing here. We like the level we are at, we'd like to keep to this standard of horse and I think the number of mares we have is a good number for us. We like coming over here. And, when we are at home, at least we can wake up early in the morning and watch them, we don't have to wait all day!
"The prize-money is a huge problem here, don't get me wrong., but I think if you can race black-type horses, then you can establish a value for those horses.
"The prize-money does need to be addressed, but the quality of the racing is so established and so recognised all over the world. I think when horses do well in England, Ireland or France there is a benchmark. You can't argue with the market."

Lot 231:
this colt by Roaring Lion becomes the sire's highest-priced yearling so far when making 450,000gns. He was sold by New England Stud for breeders Susan and Barry Hearn of Mascalls Stud. He was bought by David Redvers Bloodstock.
The April-born colt is out of Reckoning (Danehill Dancer), the dam of Subjectivist, who won the Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup this summer, and Sir Ron Priestley, winner of the Prince Of Wales's Stakes (G2).
The dam also produced Alba Rose, who finished third in last year's Rockfel Stakes (G3).
(14:41)
Lot 227:
sold by Newsells Park Stud, by Frankel and bought by MV Magnier this colt, a half-brother to Mrs Sippy, (Blame) a Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 runner-up, and out of the Grade 1-placed Qushchi (Encosta De Lago), makes 925,000gns.
"He is a very nice horse, Frankel is doing very well and we've been very lucky buying off Newsells in the past,"said Magnier. "We wish Graham [Smith-Bernal] and his family the very best of luck with the new venture, and may that long history of Newsells continue."
Magnier added: "Galileo is doing very well now as a sire of sires, the future is definitely bright. This horse looks a very nice sort, he is a very good mover."
Underbidder was Godolphin.
(14:34)
Lot 226:
"This filly is very hard to fault," said buyer Alex Elliott after going to 800,000gns for the Galileo daughter of the Gamely Stakes (G1) runner-up Quiet Oasis (Oasis Dream). "I remember seeing Quiet Oasis when I was in California, she was a very good racemare for Paul Reddam and has obviously produced Lancaster House and this is a full-sister.
"She is a collectors' item really. She goes to Ralph Beckett. She is for a new owner," said Elliott, standing near to Team Coolmore.
Elliott, who outbid Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland, added: "It is very exciting to be able to buy a filly with this sort of potential. We thought we'd have to spend that, it is a privilege to be able to buy a filly like this."
Of his buying season, Elliott added: "We have been able to buy a lot of horses that we have wanted to buy this year. We think the market has been extremely fair, we have bought a lot of yearlings – we are looking forward to next year!"
Lancaster House is a dual winner of the Gladness Stakes (G3).
This filly was bred and sold by Barronstown Stud.
(14:18)
Lot 217:
is going to the US, knocked down to trainer Chad Brown and bloodstock agent Mike Ryan for 400,000gns.
"She is the complete package – her dam could really run, she was a Group 2 winner – and this filly looks as though she has 'after burners'," smiled Ryan. "She looks very quick, she looks as though you just need to press the button. And I loved her when I saw her out the back.
"These Dubawis they are so driven, they are so consistent, they have fire in their belly. A couple of years ago we bought six here, and we've had a couple of stakes winners, including Sifting Sands who is a good horse."
Ryan added: "There are remarkable stallions over here – Dubawi, Frankel and Kingman – we can't get enough of them!"
Sifting Sands won a black-type race at Saratoga in August and goes next for a Grade 2. He is out of Yummy Mummy and was sold at this sale in 2019 to Mike Ryan, who was buying for White Birch Farm. He cost 500,000gns.
(13:45)
Lot 202:
the chestnut Dubawi colt from Willie Carson's Minster Stud is bought by Godolphin for 425,000gns, Oliver St Lawrence the underbidder.
He is out of the Galileo mare Phiz, who finished second in the Park Hill Stakes (G2). She has had some good results in this sale ring – her 2017 colt by Siyouni made 200,000gns and her Le Havre filly fetched 825,000gns in 2019 bought by MV Magnier. She is named Martinique, is the winner of one race and is BHA rated 87.
"I was brave when I bought Phiz," laughed Carson, recalling that he had to spend €600,000 to buy the mare in 2017. "For this Dubawi nomination, I got the money from the sale of Martinique.
"I had a word recently with Aidan and said, 'What about this Martinique? When are you going to get me some black-type?'
"He said, 'She is doing a very good job and is leading Snowfall!'" But he said she will get black-type. She was beautiful.
"This guy had no faults, he is not an absolute star to look at, but he is a very straight-forward, a lovely horse. He is very well-balanced, a very balanced horse, and his nature is fantastic. I am very hopeful that he will help the mare in the sales ring in the future," said Carson.
Of Phiz, Carson reported that she was covered by Wootton Basset this spring. "She does not have a foal at foot – I was trying to be clever and went to Pivotal to get a filly and she did not go in foal."
Martinique runs today at Navan (4.05) in a fillies' handicap. Sadly for Carson it is not an opportunity for the filly to pick up any black-type, but maybe she can grab another race win.

Lot 193:
the Dubawi filly out of Peace In Motion, a Group 3 winner in Germany by Hat Trick, makes 400,000gns bought by John Dance's new operation at Manor House Stud. Bidding was conducted by Dance's new private trainer James Horton, who will be based at the refurbished facility at Molton, that will be split into both a training yard and stud farm.
"She is very good for a first foal, athletic and out of very good mare with a great page. John is looking to buy fillies to eventually strength the broodmare band, we thought she fitted the bill very well. She is the most expensive yearling bought so far – by some way. We have bought 11 yearlings this autumn so far.
Of development progress at Manor House, Horton outlined: "We have got a first few horses in, we are getting up and running, putting systems in place, getting organised and ready to go. We hope to have runners soon over this winter."
The filly was sold by Newsells Park Stud.
(12:29)
Lot 187:
Lope De Vega, one of the sire stories of the last few years, stood at a nomination fee of €125,000 this spring.
In 2019, when this colt was conceived his fee was still under €100,000 at €80,000 – this colt provides Kildaragh Stud with a very decent 200,000gns return on that investment.
He is out of the Doyen mare Oriental Magic, a Listed winner and Group 3 placed in Germany.
(12:00)
Lot 185:
the Rathasker Stud-based sire Bungle Inthejungle has enjoyed a break out year on the racecourse courtesy of his speedy Group1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner Winter Power.
Rathasker Stud itself offered this filly by the son of Exceed And Excel, and was rewarded with a sale of 105,000gns, the filly achieving the second-best price for a yearling filly by Bungle Inthejungle sold in the sale ring.
Out of Onomatomania (Mr Greeley), the filly is a half-sister to Que Amoro (Es Que Love), who can also claim Nunthorpe form – she finished second in the Group 1 sprint behind Baattash in 2020.

Lot 155
the last lot in today by the late Galileo makes 625,000gns, bought by MV Magnier. The filly is the third foal out of the 1,000 Guineas winner Miss France (Dansili), who also won the Oh So Sharp Stakes (G3). She is a daughter of Miss Tahiti, a French champion two-year-old and winner of the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1).
The filly was bred by Dayton Investments Ltd.
(18:45)
Lot 141:
the Newton Anner Stud-bred Dubawi colt out of Marigold Hotel, consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment, is bought by Godolphin for 600,000gns.
The mare is a daughter of Galileo and she was bought by BBA Ireland on behalf of Newton Anner at the December Sale in 2016 for for 330,000gns.
She has had one winner from two runners, Royal Free Hotel (Mastercraftsman), a winner as a three-year-old and rated 91 at his best. Her three-year-old of this season Anner Castle (Fastnet Rock) has yet to win, but has finished fourth in the Yeats Stakes (L).
Marigold Hotel is out of Hotelgenie Dot Com (Selkirk), dam of the Fillies' Mile (G1) winner Simply Perfect, who is in turn dam and grand-dam of stakes performers.
It is the family of Bianca Nera and Postponed and an extension of the same family as Lot
49, who sold to Godolphin from Whatton Manor Stud for 725,000gns.
(17:44)
Lot 127:
Simon Mockridge of Juddmonte Farms having missed out on the No Nay Never filly (Lot
110) quickly made good that omission by going to 800,000gns for this Dubawi filly consigned by Newsells Park Stud. She was bred by the French-based arm of Al Shahania Stud.
"We were strong on the No Nay Never filly, but not strong enough as Cheveley Park bought her! But it is nice to see Mrs Thompson here," said Simon Mockridge. "This is a very very nice filly, by Dubawi who for us is a great outcross for the longer term for stallions such as Kingman and Frankel.
"She is also a great free moving filly, who showed very well under the Newsells Park banner."
Of plans for Juddmonte, Mockridge said: "The positive news is that Prince Khalid's family want to continue to develop Juddmonte and we need to buy some outcross fillies, and that is the reason why we are here. The No Nay Never and this Dubawi filly fitted the bill perfectly.
"It has been a tough year, a very difficult year losing Prince Khalid, but the family is committed and is showing that it is committed to the future.
"The Prince left us with a great legacy and it is there for us to drive forward. It is fortunate in that we have a very strong stallion base, we are very fortunate to have Frankel and Kingman, that is number one, it keeps us going, we just need to refresh a little bit."
"Fillies like these are very rare, very difficult to buy, you have to be competitive, and I think we have been that.
Of two earlier purchases, Mockridge added: "We bought two very nice Expert Eyes – the one from Barouche [Lot 11] is a very nice filly, well made, very strong, very active, very pleased to buy her. And the other was from Yeomanstown [Lot 113], we were underbidders on her as a foal. She is very nice individual."
Julian Dollar of Newells said: "We have five lovely horses for the draft from Al Shahania Stud, they have been with us for ten weeks, we have just put a bit of polish on them. They came looking fantastic, produced by a good team. They deserve all the credit, they are very good horsemen."
Betrand Le Metayer, racing manager for Al Shahania was at Tattersalls with stud manager Arnault Leraitre. He said: "The team on the farm in France has done a great job, it is an honour to get such a result with a filly. She has been brilliant from the word go – she goes to sleep, gets up, goes to sleep. She has a great mid and she showed it today. That is what caught the buyers' eyes.
"We thought she was our best yearling and deserved the best sale."
Of her Monsun mare Longina, who was a Group 2 winner and third in the Preis der Dian (G1), Le Metayer outlined: "The mare is not in-foal. She had a gorgeous Too Darn Hot filly foal this year, so the thinking is that, because we have a very good-looking filly foal, as well as this yearling filly by Dubawi, we could part with this one!"
(17:16)
Lot 121:
the Galileo colt out of Lightning Thunder (Dutch Art), who finished second in the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas, is bought by MV Magnier for 650,000gns. The colt was consigned by New England Stud for breeder Christopher Hanbury.
"He is a gorgeous colt, he has great presence, a very active horse who showed himself well," said consignor Peter Stanley of New England Stud. "He has been very well raised at Triermore Stud, and is another fantastic example from an outstanding farm."
Lightning Thunder produced a Galileo filly this spring, and was covered by Churchill.
(16:35)
Lot 110:
a big result for pinhooker Philipp Stauffenberg – the No Nay Never filly, pinhooked by him last autumn for €260,000 from Ballintry Stud, makes 825,000gns. It is the best result for Stauffenberg Bloodstock in the sales ring.
Cheveley Park Stud's Chris Richardson was the successful bidder, and was alongside Patricia Thompson, the owner of Cheveley Park, and her son Richard. Underbidder was Simon Mockridge of Juddmonte Farms.
"She was the one we really wanted," said Mrs Thompson. "She is a beautiful filly. She was first on the short list, we were looking for a filly for the broodmare band. We will get her broken in and make some plans."
The Stephen Sullivan-bred bay filly, born on April 11, is a full-sister to the Coventry Stakes (G2) winner and Dewhurst Stakes (G1) runner-up Arizona, and to Nay Lady Nay, a Grade 2 and Grade 3 winner in the US. She is from the further family of Dabirsim and Sea Of Class.
"I bought her because she is an outcross and would be attractive for the big farms, and that exactly what the case was, she was a top horse for every breeder, it didn't matter who," said Stauffenberg explaining the reasoning behind his purchasing plans last autumn. "But she still needed to be a good physical, otherwise I wouldn't have bought her.
"The racecourse is the primary goal, today is just one step, hopefully she will prove that she is worth what Cheveley Park have spent. It is wonderful that Mrs Thompson goes on and spends something like that. This is not a filly in training, Mrs Thompson will have to wait for her, it is a future investment, it is very encouraging for the industry."
He added: "All the sales companies wanted to have her, but she has done so well I think she deserved to be in the top sale, this is the top sale."
