Lot 1149: another farm teams up for sales success with a stallion for a second time at Book 2 – this time Camas Park gets another sale ring result courtesy of No Nay Never, continuing the form from yesterday's sale of Lot 944 for 450,000gns, our current second-best price at Book 2 this year.

This colt by the sire and out of the Speightstown mare Aljaazya sells for 260,000gns, bought by Ed Sackville signing as SackvilleDonald / D Farrington.

Tim Hyde snr said: "We have had a good run with him, he looks like being a top stallion, doesn't he? He has had a Classic winner no and everything. This colt was fairly typical of the others by him we have had, they are very well made horses and powerful backsides on them, good rear ends. That horse looks particularly fast, he has never given us any trouble. He was a good foal, and he has stayed the same all the way through, we have not had to do anything.

"I think it is a good market, if the horses are good then the market is good."

The mare is in-foal to Night Of Thunder, who is sire of the mare's first foal. She was named Magical Journey and was a Listed runner-up in the Bosra Sham Stakes and was third in the Flying Fillies' Stakes (L).

Ed Sackville, who was underbidder on the previous lot, said: "This is a very strong colt, who looked a real two-year-old. He is by an outstanding stallion who just gets better and better. He has been bought for Mrs Fitri Hay and a trainer will be decided at a later date. He was bought in conjunction with Dermot Farrington." (14:25)

Lot 1148: another result for Hazelwood Bloodstock with a yearling by Frankel this time the farm sells a filly by the leading sire for 220,000gns to Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock.

Her dam Alderry was a Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 placed in South Africa and she started her breeding career off in the country – she has had three black-type runners, including Al Sahem, winner of the Group 1 South African Derby and runner-up three times at the highest level. This filly is her first foal born in Europe.

"I thought she is an outstanding filly," said Boman. "Frankel is an exceptional stallion, almost turning into a better stallion than he was a racehorse, dare I say. She is a lovely filly.

"The mare has produced a Grade 1 winner in South Africa and I respect the South African mares, I have done a lot of research on them. I think they are undervalued, so I think this filly was under valued. She is a Book 1 quality filly to look at, I think with a European pedigree I think she would have been a 600,000gns to 700,000gns filly.

"Group 1 form in any region, the top of any region, is world standard. The mare has produced three stakes winners already. This filly will be trained in Europe." (14:17)

Lot 1105: Churchtown House Stud enjoys a sales day in the sun – its homebred son of Camelot sells for 200,000gns, bought by Joseph O'Brien. The sale helps to top off a fine season enjoyed by the farm on the racecourse.

"He is a lovely balanced colt, full of quality like all Camelots,"said Michael Gaffney of the farm. "Camelot has worked very well with the family – Lady Wannabe, who is a Group 3 winner at Newmarket and Listed placed, is in the family. We have had lots of generations of the family, we have bred most of the black-type horses on this page. It just keeps improving, all over the world – we have winners in Ireland, England, Hong Kong, America.

"We bought Wannabe off Gerald Leigh and then Propensity from the Gerald Leigh dispersal so we have five generations of the family at home. And it just keeps giving for us – two-year-olds, three-year-olds and onwards, it is a solid, hardy family that keeps giving all the time."

The farm bred no less than this season's leading three-year-old filly Alcohol Free, though she is just a highlight from a number of good performers for the farm this year.

"We have had a fantastic summer," smiled Gaffney. "We bred Alcohol Free [two-time Group 1 winner], Castle Star [Middle Park Stakes (G1) runner-up], Higher Truth in the US [placed third in the Belmont Oaks (G1)], we bred the dam of More Than This, who ran second in the Group 1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong, and we also bred the dam of Felix, who ran third in the Dubai Turf (G1) for Marco Botti.

"We have had the most wonderful year, it is our best year by a mile! Some years it works, and some years you scratch your head and you can't get a winner anywhere. It is like buses, they all come together – it is lovely for everybody when it all comes together, the racing and paid!

"I have to credit Tattersalls for organising today's weather! But getting all these people here from all over the world... we started off the family here, and we are back here."

Buyers should look out as there is another from Wannabe's family to sell in Book 3 tomorrow – Lot 1552. (12:55)

Lot 1099: "He is a gorgeous horse, but that is a gorgeous price, too," smiled Mick Kiane after paying 350,000gns for this colt by Ribchester on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. "He was a stand-out for us, I saw him walking in the other day. This is the first by Ribchester that we have bought so we hope he is lucky, but he is a beautiful horse. The half-brother Andreas Vesalius is in Hong Kong, I don't think he has run yet."

The colt was consigned by Barton Stud, and bred by the Bostwicks of Biddestone Stud.

"I am shocked!" smiled Tim Bostwick, understandably delighted with the result. "But he is a cracking colt. We bought the mare here empty, this is her third foal, her second foal has got black-type and has been purchased to go to Hong Kong which has attracted these guys. I am thrilled, what more can I say?

"Once again I have to pay credit to Tom Blain at Barton Stud, all of our mares board with Tom, they just do such a fantastic job. My wife Gill is not here, she is poo-picking paddocks at home, she has probably collapsed now and is enjoying a glass of something bubbly!"

Vitello is by Raven's Pass, and Bostwick said: "She is barren for next year, but she has a really nice Ten Sovereigns at foot. We went to use him because Andreas is by Caravaggio." (12:35)

Lot 1049: "For me he is the best colt in the sale, if not maybe the best horse I have seen since I have been at European sales," enthused bloodstock agent Ben McElroy after buying this Kodiac colt out of Taste The Salt ( Born To Sea) from Croom House Stud. The agent went to 285,000gns to secure the apple of his eye.

"That's my quintessential horse there," he added. "He is a great mover, he has plenty of scope, and the way the behaved out the back. I am delighted to get him. A bit like the filly yesterday, I was worried what he'd cost, I could see him making 400,000gns or 500,000gns, just as easily, but I really think he is a special horse. He goes to the states."

The dam's first foal Cashew is a winner at two and is rated 83, while the dam is half-sister to Baitha Alga, the Norfolk Stakes (G2) winner.

"There is a bit of stamina there, too as the second dam is by Fantastic Light and goes back to a nice family," identified McElroy.

Of staying in Newmarket for Book 2, McElroy said: "I am done now. I stayed for Book 2 last year, and I just said I'd take a look around and see what was here and I obviously really liked the filly last night and this colt, they were worth staying. for I have bought a wide range of prices, all similar types but I have horses in different price ranges."

McElroy bought the Kodiac filly yesterday (Lot 961) and five lots through Book1. (10:36)

Lot 1036: the Gleneagles half-brother to Asymmetric (Showcasing), this year's Richmond Stakes (G2) winner and Prix Morny (G1) third, sells for 350,000gns.

"Well thanks be to god," said breeder Jimmy Murphy of Redpender. "It is the two-year-old that is the reason for that! He has been marvellous all year.

"But this is a lovely horse himself and the mare is in-foal to Mehmas."

Explaining how he acquired the mare Swirral Edge, Murphy said: "John Ellis, a man who was friendly with PJ Foley, Joe Foley's father, used to race those horses [under the fourth dam] years ago with trainer Mark Tompkins. I have followed the family ever since and this was the only way I could get in with a good line as the rest of them were all too weak. I bought her off trainer David Brown."

The yearling was bought by Anthony Stroud, who also bought the very last lot in the ring today – Lot 1041, a son of Sea The Stars from Fittocks Stud for 200,000gns. He is out of a Sir Percy half-sister to the Australian Group 1 winner Beaten Up, and the Group 3 winner Harris Tweed. (21:14)

Lot 1017: the 32nd yearling to sell for 200,000gns or more is a Lope De Vega filly bought by Alex Elliott for 260,000gns from Ballyhimikin Stud.

"She is a lovely filly," said Elliott. "She is going to Ralph Beckett like a lot of the horses I have bought over the past two weeks. She was one we definitely wanted to go after. I am delighted to buy one from Trevor Stewart and James Hanly, they produce fantastic horses. We love Lope De Vega fillies. Hopefully, it is not too far to fall. She is for a new client."

She is out of Stellar Path (Astronomer Royal), who was a Group 3 winner in France and a Grade 3 winner in the US. She is an own-sister to Sir Patrick Moore, a Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed in Australia.

This filly was bred by James Hanly, Antony Stroud and Trevor Stewart. Ballyhimikn has sold eight horses so far this week for a turnover of 1,482,000gns. The farm is the only consignor in the top six by aggregate to have sold less than ten horses. (20:30)

Lot 964: Gainsborough Thoroughbreds, trainer Simon Crisford bidding up by the window, buys a second lot today and it is a second lot by Kodiac, this time a filly from Tally-Ho Stud. She is a full-sister to Gifted Master, a two-time Group 3 winner and placed at Group 2 level. She ran 35 times for trainer Hugo Palmer and won £758,968 in prize-money earnings.

Oliver St Lawrence was underbidder.

The filly is by far the most expensive lot sold in the ring out the mare Shobobb (Shamardal) – her previous best was 18,000gns.

She had a Kodiac filly this spring and was covered by Inns Of Court.

The two-time Group 1-winning sprinter Hello Youmzain was bred on the same Kodiac / Shamardal cross. (18:48)

Lot 963: a second good sale today for the Lanwades Stud-based stallion Sea The Moon – this colt, already named Samyr, consigned by Kilminfoyle Stud fetches 280,000gns.

Michael Fitzpatrick of the farm said: "I love Sea The Moon, he is a very exciting stallion and I think only better things are going to come from him. I think this time next year he is going to be at a different level. He was a middle-distance staying horse and they seem to be more fashionable than the 6f/7f horse.

"This colt is a lovely simple colt, very light on his feet, correct and straightforward horse."

Fitzpatrick added: "I would really like thank my staff, especially Pamela Coogan and Rai Santos, without them none of this would happen. I am only as good as them. The staff start at 5am and are here until 9 o'clock at night. You should see the work they do at home and here. They actually don't have a 'job' with me, because they want to be there. They are not dragging their feet come the morning to be in.

"Pamela and Rai are my core team, they have been with me for 11 years and nine years. They go above and beyond." (18:41)

Lot 961: Ben McElroy said after going to 340,000gns for this Tally-Ho Stud-consigned filly by the farm's star stallion Kodiac: "She has been bought for same connections as Campanelle. I saw her two or three days ago, she has a lot of likeness with Campanelle. She has the scope for a Kodiac filly and is a half-sister to a filly we are familiar with in Ventura Diamond and her siblings are all well rated. She is obviously by a top sire of fillies and we have had a lot of luck with the sire.

McElroy added: "She stands over a lot of ground, I think she is going to be quick, she has a lot of presence, and has a lot of class, just everything you like to see in a filly. She will go back to America."

Campanelle was bought by McElroy in 2019 at the October Book 1 Sale for 190,000gns. The filly is owned by Barbara Banke's Stonestreet’s Stables and trained in the US by Wesley Ward. She won last year's Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and Prix Morny Stakes (G1) and collected at Group 1 level this year in the Commonwealth Cup.

McElroy continued: "Hopefully the luck continues, and I think Barbara Bank has already picked out a name for her!"

Ventura Diamond has finished third in the Bengough Stakes (G3) since the catalogue was published. (18:26)

Lot 944: Prosperous Voyage (Zoffany), in training with Ralph Beckett, has improved throughout the year, last time out finishing second in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile. She was a £65,000 yearling purchase last year and has also been placed second in the May Hill Stakes (G2) and third in Prestige Stakes (G3).

Her younger half-brother by No Nay Never, bred by Lynch Bages with Camas Park Stud, and sold today by the stud, reaped the rewards of her efforts – he was valued in the ring at 450,000gns, bought by Ross Doyle, who was sitting on the stairs in the bidders.

"He is a standout, a very good mover, a very nice horse," said Doyle. "I am not a 100 per cent sure of training plans, they are to be decided. He is just a nice horse, he looks a two-year-old. No Nay Never is very good sire, he has had a great season."

The dam Seatone (Mizzen Mast) was bought here for Camas Park at the 2011 December Mares Sale for 115,000gns from the Juddmonte draft by Charlie Gordon-Watson. She got off to a flying start as a broodmare – her first runner named Romanesque is a Listed performer in Australia. She has bred four winners from five runners, and today's result is her third six-figure yearling sale.

The pedigree stretches back to the Juddmonte-bred Xaar, the European champion two-year-old of 1997 and champion three-year-old of 1998.

Consignor Tim Hyde aid: "He is a beautiful looking colt, really well balanced with a great walk and a magnificent temperament. Every time you pulled him out he just showed as though he knew he is good looking. He comes from a great Juddmonte family, and we actually bought the mare in this yard.

The breeding with No Nay Never has been good for us, we bred Ten Sovereigns amongst other good No Nay Nevers. He is just a really nice horse and a lot of people thought the same.

"We thought he make good money, somewhere north of 200,000gns and the right people got on him. If you take the right horse to the ring, they can make some decent money, if all the veterinary is correct and with a good physical." (17:38)

Lot 918: the Zoustar colt pinhooked from Plantation Stud for 110,000gns by Yeomanstown Stud last year gave the stud a profitable return in the sale ring today when selling for 310,000gns bought by White Birch Farm / Demi O'Byrne

David O'Callaghan of Yeomanstown Stud, said: "He is big, strong and I am delighted that Demi O'Byrne has bought him as he loved him. I thought he was a very good foal out of an Exceed And Excel mare so a speedy influence to back him up, I was happy to take a chance last year.

"It is as ever a selective market, it is pretty good all considered. There are plenty of people here everyone is working hard."

He is out of Rue Cambon, a half-sister to Gorella, winner of the Beverly D Stakes (G1), to Royal Intervention and Porto Santo, both black-type winners, and to Stars Over The Sea, runner-up in the Loughbrown Stakes (G3).

He is the most expensive yearling by Tweenhills son of by Northern Meteor sold so far at Park Paddocks. Zoustar has had three Group 1 winners in Australia to date, headed by his three-time Group 1 winner Sunlight, winner of the William Reid Stakes, the Newmarket Handicap and the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The stallion's first covering fee in the UK was £25,000. (16:24)

Lot 895: Juddmonte Farms goes to 525,000gns to buy the Kingman colt out of Reem (Galileo), sold by Hazelwood Bloodstock. It is the highest-price so far at this year's Book 2 sale.

The January-born colt is a full-brother to King Leonidas, the 2018 Book 2 sales topper when bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 750,000gns. He is a dual winner, is BHA rated 103 and is in training with John Gosden.

Consignor Adrian O'Brien of Hazelwood Bloodstock said: "What more is there to say than, in a nut shell, we are delighted! The full-brother topped the sale three years ago and it is clearly a cross that works. King Leonidas has had a few setbacks, but he is back on track now and he is clearly a very talented horse.

"I am very flattered that Juddmonte has bought a horse of his quality from our farm, and delighted for the breeder and for everyone. It is just fantastic, we wish them the very best of luck."

Of Reem he added: "She is a tricky breeder, but is in-foal to Too Darn Hot, so fingers crossed."

Underbidder was John Gosden, who was standing on the stairs. When the auctioneer offered him the chance to increase the price from the bid of 525,000gns, the trainer shook his head and walked away.

Simon Mockridge, purchasing on behalf of Juddmonte Farms said: "Physically, a very very nice horse, he has size and scope, a very big hip, a very good walker. Adrian O'Brien and his team has done a very good job.

"It was very clever, he could have been a Book 1 horse, but he brought him to Book 2, he is stand-out here. We liked his brother very much when he was sold here a few years ago and made 750,000gns – he is not a bad horse, he was favourite for the Jersey Stakes, got beaten there and has run back recently after quite lengthy break. I know John Gosden likes him very much, and, of course, John Gosden was underbidder, which I suppose bears that out.

"It is very solid trade and it is heartening to see a lot of people here." (15:32)

Lot 869: Chauvigny Global Equine stepped up to the mark to buy the Newsells Park Stud-consigned, W & R Barnett Ltd-bred son of Sea The Moon at 300,000gns.

"He will either trained by Fabrice Chappet or Henri Devin," reported purchaser Sebastien Desmontils, adding: "He is a very correct horse, he vetted well andis by Sea The Moon who has done really well and has got really good stats. The dam has been producing very good racehorses."

"He was made the final cut from our short list and were fortunate enough to get him. It is very tough to get these horses, we have been outbid quite a few times. We are very pleased, my client really liked the horse and the pedigree as well.

"He looks like he will be a proper three-year-old running over a distance, but Sea The Moon does give them a bit of speed. He was a mile and a half horse but he seems to be producing more milers and ten furlong horses.

"We are very happy – though he was a bit expensive!"

The colt has been bought for the Japanese client Hisaaki Saito, who is investing in French and European racing.

It is the second time in less than a week that the Barnett family and Newsells have combined for a successful sale ring result – the combination sold last week's Book 1 top lot, a filly Sea The Stars out of Best Terms (Lot 411), for 1.5 million guineas to Godolphin.

This colt, like last week's sale topper, is also out of a long-developed Barnett family pedigree – grand-dam Pure Grain was a joint-champion filly in 1995, winner of the Irish Oaks (G1) and Yorkshire Oaks (G1).

This colt's dam Pure Song is dam of Romsdal (Halling), a Listed winner and runner-up in the St Leger Stakes (G1), and Pure Art (Dutch Art), winner of the Pride Stakes (L) . (14:39)

Lot 860: the full-brother to this year's talented 100-rated juvenile Jazz Club makes 200,000gns for consignor Marlhill House Stud and breeder Rockhart Trading Ltd. He was bought by Stroud Coleman.

"Obviously we were expecting a nice price due to his full-brother Jazz Club, but you never know," said stud manager Brian McConnon, adding: "And with Anthony Stroud buying this colt hopefully he will end up with a good trainer, it is good for the mare. Jazz Club was rated 87 after winning his maiden andi s now rated 100 after his third placing in the Doncaster £200,000 two-year-old race – you always hope that is going to happen ahead of a sale."

Of the mare, Princess Desire, already the dam of two black-type placed runners, McConnon added: "She has a Ten Sovereigns filly foal, which we might keep. She is not in-foal." (14:22)

Lot 855: "He is a homebred for China Horse Club," reported consignor David Cox of Baroda Stud after selling this colt by New Bay to an online bid of 260,000gns from Aguiar Bloodstock / Amo Racing.

"China Horse Club is a big supporter of New Bay, and this mare is breeding some very nice stock. Her two-year-old filly Labaaqa, whom we sold a couple of years back, is lovely. She met with a bit of a set back, but is back in training with John Gosden. CHC owns part of the stallion, they support him well and it is good to see them paid in the ring.

"It is great result, hopefully, this colt is lucky and best of luck to Amo Racing team."

The mare had a colt by Dark Angel this spring.

New Bay has enjoyed a great year in the track, courtesy of his debut Group 1 winner Saffron Beach, winner of this month's Sun Chariot Stakes (G1). She was also bred by the China Horse Club, sold as a foal for 55,000gns. (14:13)

Lot 839: "He has been bought for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid," said trainer Simon Crisford after going to 230,000gns for this colt by Kodiac sold by Mountarmstrong Stud. "He looks a like a nice precocious two-year-old in the making. We are looking forward to seeing him on the track, hopefully early next season!"

Crisford signed under the Gainsborough Thoroughbreds banner.

The colt is from Mountarmstrong's flagship, speedy "Alexander" family. His dam Pious Alexander is out of the Molecomb Stakes (G3) and Anglesey Stakes (G3) winner Lady Alexander and is a half-sister to Anthem Alexander, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes (G2), runner-up in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) and third in the Commonwealth Cup (G1), and to Dandy Man, winner of the Palace House Stakes (G3) and third in the Nunthorpe Stakes (G1).

It is also the family of this year's leading three-year-old filly, the two-time Group 1 winner Mother Earth.

It is a second successful sale by the farm and the pedigree at this year's October Sale – Lot 383 in Book 1, a Galileo colt out of Anthem Alexander, was bought by MV Magnier for 1.1 million guineas, the fourth top price at last week's sale. (13:02)

Lot 818: it has been a great October Yearling Sale so far for Philipp Stauffenberg, and the run of form continued – he sells this pinhooked daughter of Frankel for 230,000gns having paid 105,000gns for her here last December. She was bred by the Middlebrook's Wood Farm Stud and sold as a foal by Mill House Stud.

She is the first foal out of Panmolle (Lawman).

"She is a nice filly," informed Stauffenberg. "I think she might not be the most impressive Frankel, but she has these big flappy ears and her working attitude is excellent, I think you will hear from her.

"She is a nice filly, I am happy with the result. When you sell a Frankel you always think about bigger figures, but it is fine, I have no complaints."

Stauffenberg was not tempted to offer her last week through the Book 1 catalogue, and she is one of four by the Juddmonte sire who will be offered this week, and all are fillies.

"I wanted to have her in Book 2, because she is not a massive as some of the Frankels, so thought she is better off here. I think it paid off."

Of the sale so far, he said: "I have to say that I can't complain at all, we got our horses sold quite well. The market seems to be strong if you come up with a good horse and yesterday's session was incredibly strong, I think we are in good shape."

Since Brexit, equine travel to the UK from Germany has become more complicated, as he explains: "Transport is much more difficult now with the paper work involved but is manageable.

"It is not really the transport issues – we travel over with a Coggins test, but it is not accepted in England. So we need to redo the tests, it is all a nightmare. It creates additional costs and additional hassle."

The filly was purchased online by the Tokyo Thoroughbred Club, a racing syndicate owned by Hidetoshi Yamamoto, a prominent owner in Japan. All the horses owed by the Club are named under a "red" banner. (12:37)

Lot 814: the Showcasing colt out of the Pulpit mare Pacifica Highway and sold by Overbury Stud for 200,000gns might never have been produced at all.

"We bought the mare carrying her first pregnancy in the states," reported Simon Sweeting of Overbury Stud. "Richard Brown was over there, and we set a limit for her. I was watching online and it was knocked down to someone else. Richard rang and said sorry, I closed my ipad. Ten minutes later they rang back, the underbidder had not honoured the bid – we are lucky to have her at all.

"She has done fabulously for us, all her progeny have sold really well. The two-year-old [Spanish Baroque] is twice a winner now and apparently goes for a Listed race in November. She is exciting."

Of this horse and the decision to send the mare to Showcasing, Sweeting said: "He has been fabulous all the way through the sale, I think he deserved that. We wanted to put a bit of substance into the mare, some of her foals have been a little bit light. It was a toss up between him and Kingman, and we thought he would give the foal a bit more substance.

"The mare has a filly by Night Of Thunder, which is a super foal, who we are very excited by. She is entered in December, but we might have a rethink now."

The mare is in-foal to the farm's highly exciting young stallion Ardad.

"This year couldn't have been better for him," enthused Sweeting. "He has got the fastest two-year-old of the year and hopefully he can go on next year. It has been a lot of fun and we have been very fortunate. Hopefully, Ardad can stay healthy and keep on going. He covered 165 mares this spring. He has got a good book and we are very much looking forward to next year."

Of Ardad's pricing for 2022, Sweeting laughed: "We are discussing his fee at the end of this week, we plan to sort it out on Friday afternoon." (12:22)

Lot 773: Day 2 kicks off in much the same vein for Ballyhimikin Stud, Day 1's leading consignor by aggregate and average – five lots sold for an average price of 207,000gns and an aggregate of 1,035,000gns – with this sale of a bay colt by Harry Angel for 125,000gns.

The colt was bred by Norelands Bloodstock and Emma Capon Bloodstock and was bought by Ballyhimikin here last December for 55,000gns.

Lot 768: Mrs Danvers (Hellvelyn), who was sold in the ring as a yearling for 1,000gns, was a star performer for her trainer Jonathan Portman winning the Weatherbys Super Sprint, the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes and £196,235 in prize-money.

Her first progeny to go through the ring gets a result today for the Mrs Dancers Syndicate – the Galileo filly fetching 320,000gns.

"She is an exemplary filly for her age [May foal]," said consignor Luke Barry of Manister House Stud. "She is a good mix of her dam and her sire. She has great quality, looks sharp and Mrs Danvers has put a lot of strength into her. We brought her here to stand out. There was plenty of interest in her and lots of people followed her in."

She was bought online by Yulong Investments and Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland. (21:26)

Lot 761: a two-time Group 2 update reaps rewards in the sale ring for Taroka Stud.

The farm offered its Cracksman colt, a half-brother to Dubai Honour (Pride Of Dubai), winner of the Prix Dollar (G2) and the Prix Guilliaume d'Omano (G2) since the catalogue was published, and got a 200,000gns return. He was bought by Anthony Stroud.

Mondelice (Montjeu) had already been a star in the sale ring for Taroka – Dubai Honour was sold at Book 2 in 2019 making 110,000gns, while her 2019 filly by Wootton Bassett, now called Minion, made 160,000gns.

Mondelice was bought in 2017 by Meridian International at the December Mares Sale for 75,000gns.

It is the joint second-best yearling sale so far for Darley sire Cracksman (Frankel), a champion three-year-old colt and a four-time Group 1 winner. His first crop are yearlings of this year. (20:52)

Lot 739: Robert "Chocolate" Thornton was quietly confident that the Appletree Farm's Kingman filly would be popular in the ring, but when she made 300,000gns, he admitted to having his own "Del Boy" moment.

"It is a fantastic result, in the region of double what we'd thought!" admitted Thornton. "Going into the ring, we knew we had good people behind us, but we didn't expect that! When she went to 150,000gns, I thought then we might get to 200,000gns, then when she went on I did a 'Del Boy' and had to step back!

"It is a complete credit to Jonny Sutton, the stud groom, he has done a hell of a job with her and turned her inside out. If you look at the pictures of her online, and look at her now, and they were only taken ten days ago, she has really changed."

Of the filly's behaviour at Park Paddocks, Thornton said: "She has been exemplary. She has never put a foot wrong, she is very uncomplicated. You can never be sure until you get in there, but we were confident. She is by far the best daughter out of Midnight Thooughts and, as this is a business, we have put her in the sale, and we have got a great result."

Midnight Thoughts (Henrythenavigator) was purchased in the US privately by Appletree when she was carrying to Tapit. She is now in-foal to Pinatubo and had an Oasis Dream colt this spring. He is a full-brother to the mare's 2017 filly Tomorrow's Dream, who was a Listed and Group placed runner.

"Paul is over the moon, he watched it online," smiled Thornton. " We have had some indifferent results today, we washed our face with one, we have taken one home and then we had her. It makes a huge difference. It is nice to know that people like John Gosden and Anthony Stroud, the underbidder, have the confidence in the farm. And it is great for the mare and for everybody that she is going into training with John Gosden."

Appletree is now finished for Book 2, and the team is heading home – but the journey will be delayed until tomorrow morning, the team staying up to enjoy a few well-deserved celebratory drinks tonight.

Buyer Richard Brown was very enthusiastic about the filly's purchase.

"She is an extremely attractive filly," he said. "She has come from a very good young farm in Gloucestershire. She put up a fantastic show out there, and I have seen her a lot! We were absolutely lights out to get her, but John and I were both extremely keen to get her, and she has been bought for a client of ours."

Brown added: "John thought she was the outstanding Kingman filly in the sale, and so did I, and he probably knows more about Kingman than I! But she is a lovely classy elegant filly, and with a proper page. She is gorgeous so we had to go strong."

Of today's sale, Brown said: "The market feels very strong. We had a very frustrating morning and bid on a lot of horses before lunchtime, it wasn't going very well. But we have just bought a couple there and she was certainly at the top of the list so we are delighted to get her." (20:33)

Lot 676: becomes the pinhook result of Day 1 of Book2 – the Le Havre colt out of Lady Francesca (Montjeu) is sold by Jamie Railton to Highclere Agency for 230,000gns. The colt was bought here as foal for 58,000gns by Railton's Enterprise Investment Scheme, Cill Dara.

"Some of these foals turn around, and some don't," explained a realistic Railton. "I particularly liked him as a foal and some of them work and some of them don't. The life of a pinhooker is not a straightforward one, and I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by some exceptional people, who keep me upright.

"I feel very privileged to have the people around me that I do. It is the people who show faith in us as a company and our organisation. We have some loyal supporters, both involved in this horse and other horse. I am very grateful for all the people who support us in the good times and the bad times."

The colt was bred by Newsells Park Stud and Lady Francesca, a Listed-placed winner, is a half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Purr Along (Mount Nelson). (17:54)

Lot 657: is bought by racehorse owner Noel Wilson and is heading to Australia to be trained by Annabel Neasham. Wilson lives in Kent and has horses in training in France racing under his company ownership banner, Just Wow Ltd. He has had shares in horses in Australia "just to get my head around Australia" and is now committing fully to ownership Down Under.

When asked why he wants to have horses trained on the other side of the world, Wilson, who "in a former life" worked for ten years on The Sun's racing desk, said: "It is obvious, really isn't it?

"I live in Kent, but I would never have a horse in training in England. It is just a joke. I have had horses in Australia come tenth and pick up £1,500. It is not a deciding factor, but it is indicative of what is going on. If you look at Australia, I have seen 90-rated horses placed in Group 1s. And if you have a horse who does have ability...."

He added: "I am not really rich enough to support British racing."

Of this horse, another good sale today for Ballyhimikin Stud, Wilson said: "He is very classy, he vetted superbly, he is a standout at this sale. I also bought one by Australia last week [Lot 174]. If everything goes badly there is quite a bit of stamina in both pedigrees, though this horse has a bit more speed."

Wilson describes his now business background as "property, buying and renting out as well as other investments" and says, "It was a great day when I exited journalism!"

He watches his international string race from the comfort of his own home.

"I set the alarm to watch the horses run in Australia, and for [the French-based horses] I have Equidia in the kitchen," he smiles. "I don't need to go and watch them physically. When they lose it is nice to turn around and make a cup of tea then have to get in the car and drive to different country to get home!"

Neasham took her licence out in 2020, and has a pretty impressive start to her training career. She won the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas with Mo’unga, the Group 1 Doomben Cup and Group 2 A.D Hollindale Stakes with Zaaki. The start of the Australian 2021/22 season saw her win the Group 1 Winx Stakes with Mo’unga. (17:04)

Lot 635: by Lope De Vega out of Ionic, sold by New England Stud this chestnut filly is bought by SackvilleDonald for 270,000gns.

She boasts a fine pedigree – Ionic is an Intello half-sister to Prudenzia, dam of the Mackinnon Stakes (G1) winner Magic Wand, who was a runner-up eight times at the highest level, and of Chicquita (Montjeu), a champion three-year-old in Ireland in 2013.

"She is for SBA Racing and goes to William Haggas," said purchaser Ed Sackville. "She is a lovely filly with a lovely pedigree, and has been bought as a breeding prospect to join the broodmare band. SPA owns the stakes-winning fillies Frenetic and Geocentric."

Chicquita is already a stakes producer – her daughter Nicest (American Pharoah) finished third in this year's Irish Oaks (G1) and Ribblesdale Stakes (G2)

Lope De Vega topped the Book 1 sires' list by aggregate – his 37 lots sold produced at turnover of 9,460,000gns. His average of 255,676gns was the eighth-best for those stallions with two or more lots sold.

Sackville later went to 200,000gns for Lot 700, a bay colt by Kingman and sold by Rory Mahon's Mountain View Stud. Out of Longing (Galileo) a half-sister to Ladies First (Dutch Art), winner of the Atalanta Stakes (G3)and the Listed Dick Hern Fillies Stakes.

"He has been bought for Mrs Fitri Hay, Kingman needs no explaining and this one is out of a Galileo mare from a nice female family. Training plans are undecided," said Sackville.

SackvilleDonald is Day 1's busiest buyer, the only purchaser to have bought ten or more horse today. (16:03)

Lot 617: bred by Trevor Stewart, James Hanley and Anthony Stroud, this 300,000gns Kingman colt is going to Hong Kong, bought by Mick Kinane on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

"He's by a great stallion and he's a lovely correct model for what I want," said Kinane. "That's the first one I've tried on today, but good horses are hard to buy. I bought five last week [at Book 1]."

"We bought the mare as a three-year-old in training and sent her to trainer Henri Devin and she won a Listed race and a Group 3," recalled joint-breeder Stewart. "We are very happy result, really nice first foal, good walking, good strong individual. It is a nice start for the mare, who is at Ballyhimikin, and she had a colt by Sea The Stars this spring."

The family features a significant update – under the third dam is this year's St Leger (G1) winner Hurricane Lane.

The Ballyhimikin breeding team also sold Lot 625 for 165,000gns, bought by Mountarmstrong Stud. A filly by Exceed And Excel, she is another first foal for her mare – this time out of the Immediate (Oasis Dream). She was bred by Juddmonte and bought by Stroud Coleman for 65,000gns at the Tattersalls Mares Sale in 2015. (15:11)

Lot 604: Dwayne Woods, with his brothers, trainer Sean and Brook Stud's Wendyll, goes to 375,000gns for this colt by Night Of Thunder consigned by Rathbarry Stud. One of the active underbidders was Ross Doyle and Richard Hannon, standing with Amo Racing's Kiavash Joorabchian by the back door.

"He is a stunning colt, for me the best colt in the sale," said Woods, adding: "He is very strong, and probably the cleanest Night Of Thunder I have ever seen – conformationally, strength, he has it all for me. Rathbarry is a wonderful producer of horse and he goes to Sean now."

Sean Woods said of the immediate plans for the colt: "He'll have a bit of time out, and he'll come to us in January at Shalfleet. He is for a client."

A March foal, the colt is out of Harlequin Girl (Where Or When), the dam of two winners, including his full-sister Hanaady, who won at Nottimgham last week on her second career start. She is a 2019 foal.

Rathbarry Stud's Francis Woods bought the colt privately as a foal from Genesis Green Stud and he said: "He is a lovely colt, and a horse with a great mind. He is lovely to do anything with, just a pleasure. The sister won for Ed Dunlop, which just brought everything together – it has proved that the mare can get a winner by the full-sister, it gave some people some confidence. He looks fast, he vetted very well and everything went according to plan."

But Woods, who has much experience buying and selling horses, added: "It is still a surprise the price on him." (14:44)

Lot 600: "Our sight is deteriorating," laughed Hugo Merry after buying this filly with a flaxen mare and white socks by Starspangledbanner, joking: "One of the instructions was to get one that we can definitely can recognise in the field!"

He added: "Seriously, she is a lovely shape, she looks a runner, the sire has had a great year. We would have liked to have had her for a little less, the good ones are making their money. She has been bought for Andrew Rosen, a long-standing friend and client of the farm. We have seen this filly around, she is bred by the Jennings family, who have bred a lot of good horses. They have had all this family.

We are just trying to find a really nice filly who might work out and then have good residual value to go back the farm to breed together.

The filly already shared by the pair is called Theory Of Music, a full-sister to Turret Rocks, dam of last week's Lot 321. (14:35)

Lot 576: provides Liam Norris with a handsome pinhook profit – the colt was bought here last December by Norris from Kiltinan Castle Stud for 92,000gns. The colt was sold today, consigned by Norris Bloodstock, to Manor House Stud for 200,000gns. Daniel Creighton was in charge of bidding.

Norris bought this colt by leading French sire Siyouni from the Floors Farming dispersal, held here at last December's Foal and Mare Sale. The April-born colt is out of Fusion (Cape Cross), a daughter of Flirtation (Pursuit Of Love) and a half-sister to Attraction, the 2003 and 2004 champion two and three-year-old filly and Floors Farming's flag-bearer. Lot 561: sold by last week's Book 1 leading consignor Newsells Park Stud, which also sold the Book 1 top lot [Lot 411], this January-born bay colt by No Nay Never is bought by trainer Andrew Balding for 260,000gns.

"We have had some success with the stallion and we thrilled to get this horse,"said Balding. "He passed our various lookers, and was one of top picks of the ones we have seen over the three days."

"Some success" is no less than training the sire's leading filly Alcohol Free to two Group 1 successes this year – the Coronation Stakes (G1) and Sussex Stakes.

The trainer updated: "Alcohol Free is in good form, conformations for Saturday's Ascot Queen Elizabeth II Stakes will be out soon, and it is all systems go."

Balding lost his top spot on the British trainers' table after his rival Godolphin's trainer Charlie Appleby's successful weekend, but he was realistic about the demotion into second place.

"It was inevitable I am afraid! We were probably punching above our weight for a good while there, but it is what it is and natural order has been restored!" he laughed. "We have had a wonderful season."

This purchase is the first foal out off Fleeting Fancy, a Galileo daughter of Just Pretending (Giant's Causeway), the Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial (G3) winner, a runner-up in the Ribblesdale Stakes (G2) and third home in both the Irish Oaks (G1) and the Irish 1000 Guineas (G1) (12:59)

Lot 552: Anthony Stroud, standing at the top of the stairs, is the successful buyer of this colt by leading young sire Mehmas sold by Tally-Ho Stud. Stroud paid 210,00gns for the full-brother to Malavath, winner of the weekend's Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (G2).

"He looks a very fast early two-year-old, the full-sister won the Group race at the weekend and Mehmas has done unbelievably well, "said Stroud of his purchase. "He comes from Tally-Ho, which is a fabulous foundation for these two-year-olds and he goes to Simon Crisford."

Stroud obviously was one good form having watching Native Trial, bought by him for Godolphin at this year's Tattersalls Craven Sale for 210,000gns from Norman Williamson. Stroud explained the thinking behind the purchase in April.

"He had a very good stride length, and he has a pedigree," outlined the buyer. "All the good breeze up I have bought, such as Society Rock or Sir Gerry, they all had good pedigree. At the end of the day, they might breeze well but, for us, they need some pedigree. Norman Williamson does an excellent job, gives them a good education, they are well presented. He was the only horse bought for Godolphin at the Craven Sale, we zeroed in on him.

Stroud updated: "He has come out of the race well, he knows he had a race. but has come out of it well. He is the first breeze-up horse to be champion two-year-old, which is good for the breeze-up consignors and good for us that we bought him!" (12:44)

Lot 537: Mick Murphy of Longways Stable will be hoping that lightening will strike thrice, the breeze-up consignor goes to 200,000gns for the Siyouni colt from Whatton Manor Stud.

The colt is the first foal out of Faay, a full-sister to 2015's European champion older sprinter and champion older mare Mecca's Angel (Dark Angel), twice a winner of the Nunthorpe Stakes (G1), and to Markaz, the two-time Group 3 winner and sire.

In 2019, Longways breezed a Siyouni filly and sold her for £450,000. Named Al Raya, the filly achieved a BHA rating high of 102 and won a Group 3. Longways previously sold the Jersey Stakes (G3) winner Le Brivido, one of the first by the sire on the stakes-winning map. (12:09)

Lot 513: the first lot bought this week by MV Magnier is a chestnut filly by Gleneagles and the second foal out of Elbereth (Mount Nelson) for 110,000gns.

Elbereth was a good racemare – a Listed winner she was placed 15 times, including seconds in the Dahlia Stakes (G2) and the Bosphorus Cup (G2). She also finished third in the Grand Premio del Jockey Club (G1) and fourth in the Coronation Stakes (G1).

Both sires achieved their debut Group 1 winners this summer in their respective positions in this pedigree – Mount Nelson got off the mark at the highest level as a broodmare sire when Zellie was successful in the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1), while Gleneagles is sire of Loving Dream, winner of the Prix de Royallieu (G1).

This chesnut filly was sold by Charlock Stud, the property of Old Barn Cottage Stud and bred by David Taylor, who owned the mare as a racehorse.

"She is lovely filly, a good mover, she has a great walk," said David Brocklehurst of Charlock Stud. "She had lots of vettings, and all who vetted on her bid on her, too. The mare was a tough international runner and she boards with us. It is our best result at Tattersalls for a little while.

"We sell a Showcasing colt later today out of Maleficent Queen [Lot 731] – she and Elbereth met on the racecourse in the Listed 1m2f Rothesay Stakes, the race won by Maleficent Queen." (10:35)
