Lot 624:
the winning two-year-old Ikhtiraaq becomes the most expensive horse sold out of the Shadwell dispersal so far – the Invincible Spirit homebred two-year-old colt fetches 220,000gns bought by RPG Bloodstock on behalf of client Mr Robert Ng, owner of the Group 1 winner Romanised.
"Ikhtiraaq will stay in Europe," reported Rupert Pritchard-Gordon. "We have had a good look at the horses of Shadwell and Mr Ng was keen to have go on one or two of them, particularly the two-year-olds. So we just liked the profile of this horse, we thought he ran well first time out, he is still learning on the job and he beat a couple of nice horses the other day. With a bit of luck there will be more from him next year."
Of the individual, Pritchard-Gordon added: "He is a really nice mover, he looks like he is going to grow a far bit more, he is still quite up behind, hopefully with another winter on his back he will grow into a nice three-year-old. There is always a chance with one with a pedigree like that. He has done nothing wrong, so with a little bit of luck if he keeps improving he is a horse to look forward to next year."
Immediate training plans are still to be confirmed, and Pritchard-Gordon said that relocating the horse to Hong Kong might be an option further down the line.
"You can never guarantee when you come to a public auction like this that you could get them into Hong Kong, it is big process getting them into Hong Kong, but it might be something we can keep in mind later on, if everything goes right.
"He will stay here for the moment, and then he needs to tick all the boxes. We were pleased with his vetting here, and we will see how next year's campaign goes and then consider Hong Kong, or Singapore, Mr Ng has horses there as well."
Of the opportunities evolving from the Shadwell dispersal, Pritchard-Gordon said: "I was at my last bid, the market is strong, it is just so rare – how many times in the past could you buy a two-year-old-winning Sheikh Hamdan horse? There are lot of people for whom this is what it is all about – dreaming and hoping that one of these horses, whether it is this fella or another one, will develop into a smart three-year-old. You always have got a chance when you are buying from these farms.
"As I said to Mr Ng, in 40 years it has never happened, no one has been able to buy a decent winning two-year-old of Sheikh Hamdan's. So we are having a go.
"Mr Ng was very interested in the dispersal. He had been looking at another horse owned Sheikh Hamdan's who ran recently at Ascot, and so we just talked about the whole situation and he was very keen to follow through the horses from the dispersal."
Ikhtiraaq hails from three generations of top-class Shadwell breeding – his third dam Wasnah (Nijinsky) was initially bought from breeder Nelson Bunker Hunt in 1986.
Trained by John Dunlop, she finished second in the Pretty Polly Stakes (L). She became the dam of six winners from nine runners, headlined by Bahri, the European champion three-year-old miler of 1995, and Bahhare, winner of the Group 2 Champagne Stakes and third placed in the Champion Stakes (G1).

Lot 577:
Hannibal Barca, fourth placed in the Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes (G1) last weekend for trainer Brian Meehan on just his third career start, sells for 500,000gns. The son of Zoffany is bought by BBA Ireland's Michael Donohoe.
"The horse looks very impressive, his maiden victory was very impressive and I thought it was a superb run in that ground at the weekend," said the agent. "I don't think he may have handled it all that well, but he was gutsy and it was his determination that got him through it.
"He is still quite green, and he is a lovely big scopey horse, 16.1hh, with a lot of scope to him, we think he is very progressive."
Of the colt's new connections, Donohoe said: "He has been bought for an existing client who has a couple of horses in England, Ireland France, and he may stay in training here. We are not sure what the plans are with him, the first thing was to get him bought and we will make the plan after. He could obviously be a horse for the Classics next year, he could have the speed for a mile but I think in time he could stay 1m4f.
"We are very happy to get him, he is very clean, he has a lovely attitude and temperament, he did not turn a hair there the couple of times we saw him or in the pre-parade ring. He is rated 111, by next May or June today's price could be good value."
The colt was bred by Brittas House Stud out of the Listed-winning Galileo mare Innocent Air. He was sold by the executors of Brittas House Stud as a foal, sadly Peter Magnier has passed, bought by Castlehyde for €16,000 and then purchased last September as a yearling by Sam Sangster Bloodstock for £55,000.
He has run this year's three races in Sam Sangster's blue and green colours, and Sangster was at Park Paddocks to watch the horse sell. He explained his feelings as he watched the colt's market value increase nearly ten fold.
"I am still buzzing, it was emotional really," he said. "Brian and I buy a lot of horses together on spec and we put them in the shop window, he was one of them. We loved him as a yearling, but with the year of COVID we struggled to get people to the yard and he was one of the horses we did not get sold.
"We have a lot of confidence in the horses we buy, so we raced him; full credit to Brian who believed in the horse to take him to the Doncaster race, Brian targeted the race for him. He has such a bright future, we are obviously gutted to see him go but it was good business all round."
As to what drew him to buy the horse last year, he said: "As a yearling he was exactly what he was in the ring there today – a gorgeous, free-moving horse. He is a Zoffany out of a Galileo mare, it is a beautiful proven cross.
"When we bought him I thought we'd bought him every well. Did I believe he'd go and make half a million at Tattersalls? No!"
Sangster also reported that the colt had shown his ability on the Manton gallops right from the get-go.
"All the lads in the yard loved him, even my nephew, Ollie Sangster who rode out early on, he rang me and said; This is real, real nice horse Sam'.
"But I am delighted for Brian and everyone in the yard. Brian has done it many times before – he has the confidence in his horses and runs them in big races, it just shows you have to back your trainer."
Was he not tempted to keep the horse himself and enjoy aiming for those big race targets next year?
"There was temptation to a level – and the level was in the sale ring!' he laughed. "But we knew we were on to something here, he had seven vets from Australia from all over and you come here because you know you are going to get the best bidders.
"Michael [Donohoe] rang me this morning and asked what I thought, and I told him that I could not recommend this horse more – he has got such a lovely temperament, a lovely stride and I think he is going to be a serious horse for next year."
Sangster has already reinvested in yearlings and is looking forward to marketing them this winter.
"We have bought 17 yearlings, and I run a syndicate called Manton Thoroughbreds and we buy six colts for it every year. We have attended a few more sales this year, hopefully now people can come down to the yard and we can have a few open days and we have a bit of marketing material of the back of him too!
"Brain and I have been working together for seven years – we have been buying these horses and it shows that we have the confidence in the horses that we buy to race them."

Lot 574:
Glentaneous is bought by Australian Bloodstock / Ronald Rauscher from Manton Lodge Stables for 160,000gns.
"I liked pretty much everything about this horse!" laughed Ronald Rauscher after his purchase of the colt by Gleneagles. "You need to when you are spending that sort of money!
The gelding has won over a mile and 1m2f and is rated 94.
(15:00)
Lot 527:
Alrehb, the War Front half-brother to Muhaarar, the European champion three-year-old sprinter of 2015, makes 120,000gns. The four-year-old gelding has run twice, winning since the catalogue was published, successful over a mile at Lingfield for trainer Charles Hills and owner breeder Shadwell Estate Company at the end of September.
"He won very well then, he has needed time and is from a family who improve with age," said his future trainer and purchaser Kevin Philippart de Foy. "He is an exciting prospect and joins the team for this year. We will give him some time and work out a programme for him. I think he will keep on improving, he has a great pedigree."
His dam Tahir (Linamix) has produced seven winners from eight runners, two black-type winners, including Muhaarar, and two black-type performers.
(12:57)
Lot 519:
from the Shadwell draft, Ramadhaan, a two-year-old chestnut filly by Ribchester, sells for 65,000gns bought by Meah / Lloyd Bloodstock.
The homebred filly has run since the catalogue was published, finishing third and fourth at Haydock and Chelmsford over 6f and 7f.
She is a half-sister to the 100-rated Raeedb (Raven's Pass), a winner in August at Chelmsford over 5f.
Ribchester is the sire of 14 winners to date, including the 108-rated Flaming Rib, winner of the Listed Doncaster Stakes last weekend.

Lot 465:
Persuasion is heading from Charles Hills Lambourn-based yard to David Barrons in North Yorkshire, Barrons's daughter Nicola in Newmarket to secure the purchase of the son of Acclamation at 75,000gns.
"He has shown a good level of form, but the big thing here for us was the old boy Hitchens in the pedigree under the second dam – he is a son of Acclamation as is this horse," explained Barrons.
She then admitted: "It was a bit of a heart strings moment! He has shown good form, he is very similar to Hitchens when we bought him, and it all came together. He is for owner Laurence [O'Kane] who owned Hitchens."
Of immediate plans for the four-year-old colt, who finished second in the Group 3 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes as a two-year-old and has run 11 times, Barrons outlined: "I think almost certainly he will be a gelding by the end of the week!"
Hitchens ran 74 times, 64 of those starts came for the Barrons yard for whom he won nine times (11 wins in total). He won three 6f Group 3 races, picked up over £690,000 in prize-money and ran until he was a nine-year-old.

Lot 444:
"He has been bought for a new client, and he is going to trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy," said agent Alex Elliott after going to 140,000gns for the once-raced, once-placed son of Havana Gold, named Elsals and from today's first Shadwell draft. Elliott signed on behalf on KPF Racing.
"My man is very strong on his stats, and Kevin's stats have come out pretty good, he has had an amazing first year.
Elliott added: "The only way is up for this horse, he has had one start for Richard Hannon. These Shadwell horse are coming in at a premium, we actually valued him a little less, but to try and buy is tough – when you are up against the likes of Gallic Bloodstock, who are very sharp fellas, you know you are on the right horses.
"I think you are better off paying a little more for a horse you really want. He will be put away now for this year, hopefully he can come out win his maiden and go on from there, the sky really is the limit for this horse, it is quite exciting.
"This is the first venture for my client with Kevin, it is good to support young trainers who are doing well."
Elsals, trained until now by Richard Hannon, finished third on his first career start at the beginning of this month over 7f at York.

Lot 364C:
the wild card entry Ace Rothstein, a three-year-old gelding by More Than Ready offered by Fitzroy House Stables (M. Bell), goes back to the same yard – he was bought by MLW Bell Racing for 125,000gns.
Bell's son Nick Bell explains
"He was owned by a group of clients," reported Bell. "The plan was to sell him at the end of his three-year-old career, but some wanted to stay in him, so it is great he is coming back to the yard. He will be off to Bahrain or Dubai this winter to try and win some prize-money and he looks an ideal candidate for that. He was sold with a nomination to the new race series in Bahrain."
He has run six times and won twice this year as a three-year-old over 1m3f and 1m2f on good and good to firm ground. He is currnetly on career-high BHA mark of 90.
(20:40)
Lot 358:
the speedy Atalis Bay is bought by Middleham Park Racing and Tom Morley from Prestige Place (Marco Botti) for 130,000gns. The colt will be moving to the training yard of Robert Cowell.
"We are setting up a little syndicate between Middleham and Tom," said Cowell. "They had a nice two-year-old this year, so we are trying to stay lucky. He looks like a nice horse and something we can do well with."
Tim Palin of Middleham Park added: "He is a very fast horse, he has been second to Winter Power at York so that is pretty decent form. He is still a colt so the dream is very much alive that he could be a superstar. The way he won at Sandown was brilliant, he acts on the fast tracks and I can see him winning heritage handicaps and dashes or maybe even better."
Of immediate plans, a winter holiday is on the agenda, but not a gelding operation. "The dream is still is very much alive that he could have stallion options, so, no, we won't be considering a gelding operation for him for the time being," said Cowell, adding: "He will have a break over the winter."
Dynamic Force, a Kodiac colt, is the two-year-old owned this season in partnership between Morley, a long-standing owner with Cowell and Middleham Park. The colt has run three times for Cowell, winning on his first start, finishing second in the 6f Ripon Hornblower Conditions Stakes next time out, before his last start this year came in the Group 3 Prix Eclipse (G3).
(19:23)
Lot 344:
Raadobarg, a 2018 bay colt by leading stallion Night of Thunder and out of Queen Bodicea (Revoque), is bought by Hamish Macauley Bloodstock and trainer Johnny Murtagh.
Murtagh has enjoyed a great season on the track this year and said: "I am delighted to get such a high-class horse. His form looks solid and hopefully he can improve from three to four."
The colt has picked up £38,077 in prize funds, and is the winner of three races this year, twice over a mile and once over 7f, from seven outings. He has reached a rating of 99, has won on heavy, soft and good to firm going, and was previously trained by Roger Varian for Amo Racing.
Jason Singh, taking instructions over the telephone, was underbidder.
(19:15)
Lot 324:
Dirtyoldtown, by No Nay Never, out of the Listed winner Tadris (Red Ransom) and the winner of one race from just three outings with a rating of 89, is bought by Alex Elliott for 100,000gns.
"He is for a new client of Grant Tuer's" said Elliott. "We have been waiting all day for him and with the market hotting up we thought we might not get him. Grant is over the moon. I know George [Boughey] well and he is sorry to see him go. he was a bit free in his Group 3 and I think he could make up into a Britannia type of horse."
He finished ninth of ten in the Autumn Stakes over a mile last time out at newmarket at the beginning of the month.
(18:19)
Lot 302:
although the bidding for Horoscope opened up 100,000gns, Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland gave just one bid of 325,000gns to successfully buy this chestnut son of No Nay Never, sold by Coolmore.
"He is goes to the Middle East," said Donohoe. "With a rating of 110 he can run in all those top races in the Emirates. He goes on quick ground and he is versatile, he is a good-looking horse and he has a pedigree to be a stallion down the road."
The Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs John Magnier-owned colt has run 12 times in total, 10 times this year. He has won three races, and his best race result was when he finished third in the Group 2 Boomerang Mile beaten just a half length and a neck.
(17:45)
Lot 280:
Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock goes to 140,000gns for Montather, bought on behalf of Ciaron Maher Racing.
Boman said: "He's off to Australia – I've bought him for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace. We've had a bit of luck buying at this sale over the years and they wanted to come back and buy a nice horse. I spoke to Roger Varian, who has handled the horse beautifully, and I think he's a very talented horse who will handle the faster pace in Australia, because he's been a bit keen in races. He handles fast ground and he's a lovely horse to look at – we're delighted to get him."
The gelding is by Dubawi and was trained by Varian for owner breeder Shadwell Estate Company. Now a four-year-old, he won in June over 1m2f at Chelmsford off a mark of 94.
(16:59)
Lot 269:
Line Of Descent has a future over hurdles ahead, the three-year-old gelding by Nathaniel is bought by Highflyer Bloodstock/Warren Greatrex Racing as a juvenile hurdle prospect for 135,000gns.
"He has been bought for my new landlords Jim and Claire Bryce," said Greatrex. "We have bought a few nice horses for them recently and they wanted a juvenile, and this horse fitted the bill. He looks like he will be a jumper, Nathaniels do jump, we know that and they improve with age.
"He is a good-looking horse and when everyone started walking in, all the right people were on him so... Time will tell but he looks the part so we will go from there, fingers crossed this lad can run," added the trainer.
Greatrex moved into Lambourn's Rhonehurst Stables in July 1, and he has trained three winners from the new base.
Of buying at the Autumn Horses in Training Sale, Greatrex outlined: "We bought Barwell Bridge here [2009, 80,000gns] and he was fourth in the Triumph, but you need a good budget to buy a good horse. You need to tick as many boxes as you can."
(16:49)
Lot 257:
I Am Magic has increased his valuation from 14,000gns (Tattersalls Ascot yearling, bought by Aguiar Bloodstock from Ballyvolane Bloodstock) to a 95,000gns breeze-up two-year-old (Tattersalls Guineas Sale, bought by trainer Michael O'Callaghan from Aguiar Bloodstock) to a 200,000gns two-year-old in training, bought by Michael Donohoe from M.D. O'Callaghan Racing.
Through this summer the colt by Magician has won one race – a 7f maiden at Galway – run in the Listed Stonehenge Stakes, the Group 2 KPMG Juvenile Stakes and finished third in the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes over 7f. He now boasts of a BHA rating of 101.
"He has been bought for a Middle Eastern client to run in the Saudi Derby run on Saudi Cup day," said O'Donohoe. "He has come recommended by Michael [O'Callaghan], I have seen his races and seen him breeze. He is a big horse and he there is more to come from him."
(16:16)
Lot 252:
James Couldwell of Value Racing Club.co.uk is making a slight departure from the norm with this purchase of the 93 rated Cairn Gorm (Bated Breath), sold by West Ilsley Stables (Mick Channon).
"Richard Sanderson has been a member with the racing club for some time, he has recently sold his company and he wanted a horse of his own who could run in the big summer festivals," reported Couldwell. "The budget was 100,000gns, but not to lose out on one for an extra bid.
"We think this horse fits the bill – he was a good two-year-old and got to a good rating, and maybe as a three-year-old the others have caught up with him. He has come down in the handicap and we are hoping that Mick Channon has done the work for us and got him re-handicapped! He goes to Mick Appleby and the aim will be the Wokingham at Royal Ascot next summer."
Now rated 93, having got to a mark of 103, the colt is a three-time winner with earnings of £61,371. He was bred by Hunscote Stud and formerly owned by the stud when in training with Channon.
"We are usually spending around 30,000gns, so this was a bit nerve wracking!" laughed Couldwell.
(16:10)
Lot 201:
Third Kingdom was bred by Prince Faisal's Nawara Stud Limited, ran for the Prince when in training with John and Thady Gosden and, like the Prince's star performer Mishriff, is by Make Believe. Third Kingdom was sold today by Voute Sales for Nawara, fetching 135,000gns, signed for by Naja Stud and Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock.
The three-year-old colt, a son of the Canadian 2012 champion two-year-old filly Spring In The Air (Spring At Last), won by an easy 8l last time out at York off a mark of 89.
"He has been bought for Prince Faisal Bin Khaled Bin A/Aziz, the leading owner in Saudi Arabia," said representative Saad Bin Mishraf, who was sat with Peter Doyle. "The breeding we like especially on the dam's side, he is by Make Believe, and we think he will improve on a Dirt surface."
(15:08)
Lot 192:
the Shadwell-offered Muhaarar colt Harb makes 70,000gns bought by Richard Knight Bloodstock with his brother, trainer William Knight.
"He has been out a few times this year, and i think we'll probably geld him now and he'll have a little holiday. His new owner Pat Gallagher has got a nice stud in Kent so he will go there and have a break," reported Knight.
"He has got nice form, a nice rating, he is a young horse and looks a nice type with a bit of size and scope about him."
Harb is the winner of one race from five starts, all of which have come over 6f, and he is BHA rated 87.
(14:54)
Lot 191:
leading Qatari-based trainer Jassim Ghazali, a regular visitor to Park Paddocks, could not travel to Newmarket for this week's sale due to ongoing COVID restrictions, but that did not stop him bidding, the trainer successfully purchasing Majalh via an online bid of 155,000gns.
Will Douglass, who helps Ghazali with his European purchasing, said: "This horse ticks all the boxes, he has been vey well presented and produced by Shadwell. He is by Siyouni and out of a Sea The Stars mare, which is great breeding. He is just a two-year-old, and it looks as though there is more to come from him."
Douglass added: "Jassim really wanted to get to Newmarket this week, but it was just not to be."
The colt has run three times and was a 4l easy winner over a mile last time out at Brighton.
He is out of the dual winner Musaanada (Sea The Stars) and from the family of the five-time Group 1 winner Fame And Glory.
(14:48)
Lot 190:
in 2012 Paul McCartan of Ballyphilip Stud paid 14,000gns at the Autumn HIT Sale for a two-year-old filly by Lawman called Anna Law. She has famously gone on to become dam of the champion sprinter and four-time Group 1 winner, Baattash.
Since then McCartan has sold four yearlings out of the mare at the October Yearling Sales , including her star performer, for a total of 1,930,000 guineas.
Today, the breeder is hoping to repeat the feat and went to 100,000gns for the Kodiac two-year-old filly Falaj sold out of the Shadwell Stud dispersal.
She is a half-sister to the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Fashion Queen (Aqlaam) and to the dam of Asymmetric (Showcasing), this year's winner of the Group 2 Richmond Stakes and third placed in the Group 1 Prix Morny for trainer Alan King.
Under the second dam is Wunders Dream, winner of the Flying Childers (G2) and the Molecomb Stakes (G3), while Sha Tin's Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Industrialist is under the third dam.
"She will be retired to stud," said McCartan. "We loved her pedigree – Asymmetric is a good horse and his half-brother was stabled next to us at Book 2 this year, a Gleneagles colt from breeder Redpender, and he is a beautiful looking horse. We have a breeding right in Showcasing so she may go to him. This sale has been lucky for us."
(14:42)
Lot 137:
from the Gainsborough Stables (S. & E. Crisford) draft, the lightly raced Baltic Coast is bought by Ronald Rauscher with Australian Bloodstock.
"He will go to Australia, he is an unexposed horse and physically I think he is quite taking," said Rauscher. "He is coming out of a yard that you can be happy to buy from and with which I have been quite lucky. From those aspects he was quite straightforward, and there were obviously other takers – we thought we'd get him at a different price but it never materialised!"
Bred by and sold as the property of Rabbah Bloodstock, the son of New Approach has run twice and has finished second on both occasions, first time over a mile at Pontefract and then over 7f at Newcastle. He is out of the black-type mare Kurland (Kheleyf), a half-sister to the Coventry Stakes (G2) winner Rajsinghe.
(12:54)
Lot 88:
Annadale (Australia), a four-time winner from 14 starts, BHA rated 84 and the earner of over $43,000 in prize-money earnings, is bought by trainer Jim Goldie for 82,000gns. The three-year-old colt was previously in training with Mark Johnston.
"He is obviously from a breeder I know well, he is a nice horse, and I am hoping he will turn into a Cup horse for next year," referenced Goldie, the horse bred by William Johnstone, who also bred and is owner of Goldie's Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes winner Euchan Glen. "I think he will progress. We will get him home, and decide what to do. He has won at Newcastle and with the All-Weather final moving there we might look at options along those lines. I think we will probably give him a break over the winter, but we will have a think. We will keep him a colt for now, but maybe we will need to keep the nonsense out of his head and train him!" said Goldie, adding: "He is typical hardy Mark Johnson horse."
(11:49)
Lot 43:
Najd Stud / Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock, who bought Fabilis (Frankel ex Mirabilis), the August Sale's top lot for 350,000gns, strike early today spending 52,000gns on Regimental Gent (The Gurkha). He was sold by Barton Sales for owner Jeff Smith and trainer Harry Eustace.
The two-year-old gelding was a winner over 7f at Chelmsford in September and has since finished fourth under a penalty in a novice stakes at Lingfield over the same trip.
He hails from Smith's leading pedigree – his third dam is Smith's champion mare Lochsong.

Lot 35:
while signing the docket after buying the previous lot, Durcan also bid on Maktoob, a son of Awtaad from the same Shadwell draft, but the agent had to give way to Colm Sharkey's CDS Bloodstock, who bought the colt at 50,000gns.
The two-year-old is unraced and is out of Mudawanah, by the leading broodmare sire Dansili, a daughter of Rumoush (Rahy), winner of the Fielden Stakes (L, runner-up in the Park Hill Stakes (G2) and third placed in the Oaks (G1).
(10:56)
Lot 34:
the third in from the first draft offered through this week's Shadwell dispersal fetches 65,000gns. Eshkaal, an Exceed And Excel two-year-old half-brother to the talented three-year-old filly Saffron Beach, who boasts of a Group 1 update since the catalogue was published courtesy of her Sun Chariot Stakes success earlier month, is bought by agent Ted Durcan on behalf of Ahmad Alabdullatif.
"He's been bought for my client in Saudi Arabia, he might race on here or over there, I am not sure yet," outlined Durcan. "My client liked this horses's profile, and is a scopey horse who will improve. He finished a good third last time out at Wolverhampton on his second start in September, he is just a scopey, nice moving horse."
Durkan has started early filling his orders and added of his view of the likely market this week: "I think the market is really really strong, I thought this horse would make enough but not quite that. I think after what happened at the yearling sales the market strength is going to roll on and it is going to be difficult to buy."

At the conclusion of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale,
Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented.
“Last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale was hailed as a story of remarkable resilience in the face of uniquely challenging circumstances. This year it should be hailed for the sustained demand from start to finish at all levels of the market.
“We work hard to attract international buyers every year and the overseas contingent, most notably from America, Australia and throughout the Gulf region, has made a huge contribution throughout the past two weeks, but without doubt the most encouraging feature of the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale has been the domestic British and Irish demand, which has been a revelation.
“Book 1 set the ball rolling with a show of strength that saw significant gains in all of the key indicators and gave a hint of things to come with a record number of six-figure transactions which demonstrated the depth and diversity amongst the buyers. Books 2 and 3 followed suit with unrelenting competition amongst extraordinary numbers of buyers and records for turnover, average and median, which can only inspire confidence for the industry going forward. Similar to Book 1, the number of yearlings at Book 2 selling for 100,000 guineas or more was unprecedented, as was the number of yearlings reaching the 50,000 guineas mark in Book 3.
“We have a magnificent product and the last two weeks at Tattersalls have showcased so many of Europe’s finest yearlings to a global audience. The consignors and breeders have shown huge faith in the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and they have been spectacularly rewarded. Park Paddocks has been teeming with life over the last two weeks and after the ordeals of the past 18 months it has been a real pleasure to see the sales grounds, the bars and the restaurants alive with activity again, reinforcing Newmarket’s status as the hub of the European thoroughbred industry.
“We now have an Autumn Horses in Training Sale of real quality to look forward to, followed by exciting catalogues for both the December Foals and Mares Sales and after the success of the past two weeks we can approach the remainder of the 2021 season at Tattersalls with a degree of optimism."

Lot 1999 and Lot 2004:
these two fillies are both by Ardad and both sold by Throckmorton Court Stud to Amy Marnane, daughter of Con Marnane.
"We think Ardad is an exceptional sire, his stats are scary," said Amy Marnane of the sire having paid 7,000gns and 18,000gns for the two fillies.
"They all have great heads on them and this fillies are lovely, deep bodied sorts. We tried on the top one yesterday and finished third and so I stayed today. We sold a filly by the sire at the Craven Sale in the spring [Lot 158] and she put in a bullet time at Belmont last week.
"We will have around 15 to breeze next year, and four by Ardad. You can buy good looks, but you can't buy heart."
Lot
1999 is from the extended family of Maiden Tower, runner up in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (G1), while Lot
2004 is out of the Rip Van Winkle mare Belle Dormant and related to this year's star three-year-old St Mark's Basilica.
Throckmorton Court Stud was consignor of yesterday's Book 3, Lot 1723, a colt by the sire bought by Robin O'Ryan for 85,000gns.
(12:35)
Lot 1978:
the son of Storm The Stars is bought by the Dubai-based Sultan Harib, Andre Pereira at Tattersalls in charge of bidding and going to 10,000gns for this The Castlebridge Consignment-sold colt.
"He likes the sire, and this horse has a pedigree, he out of a Listed-placed mare and goes back to a US pedigree, which he likes, too. This horse will probably go to France," said Pereira when explaining the reasons for Harib's purchase.
(11:32)
Lot 1963:
Meah / Lloyd Bloodstock on behalf of Howard Duff Racing goes to 13,000gns for this Pearl Secret filly, with a pedigree – her third dam is the German champion older mare of 1993, Palacegate Episode, the grand-dam of Dutch Art.
"She is for our young syndicate," said Howard Duff. "We bought one earlier in the week in Book3, but could not get in on anything else so decided to stay for a couple we had seen today.
"She will go to be broken-in at Jamie Lloyd's Far Westfield Farm and then into training with Simon Pearce. We have just had runners for two seasons – this year our Book 3 graduate Stubble Field finished fifth in the £150,000 Tattersalls race at Newmarket n just her second start and she looks exciting."
(11:13)
Lot 1953:
the Mukhadram filly is bought by the Irish-based trainer Andy Oliver.
Oliver's representative said: "Andy saw the filly yesterday and left instructions, he liked her."
The filly is out of. the three-time winning mare Olivia Pope (Lilbourne Lad), the dam of a winner and from the family of Golden Shaheen runner-up Balmont Mast, the Summer Mile (G2) winner Premio Loco and the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat runner-up and sire Gregorian.
