Lot 179: Rihaam creates a new July Sale record price of 540,000gns given by Blandford Bloodstock after a protracted duel with an online bidder.
From the first Shadwell draft to be offered at this year's July sale, Rihaam is by the leading broodmare sire Dansili and is carrying her fifth pregnancy. She has had two runners and one winner – he is Ribhi, a dual winner at two and placed third in the European Free Handicap (L) in April. He is by Dark Angel and the mare is carrying a full-sibling, she was last covered on April 6. She had a filly by Blue Point in 2021 and missed for this year.
Rihaam was unraced, but she is from the leading Shadwell family of the champion Bahri and the Group 1-placed Bahhare – Rihaam's dam Wissal (Woodman) is a half-sister to Bahri and full-sister to Bahhare.
Rihaam is a half-sister to five black-type winners and runners – Mudaaraah (Cape Cross), a Listed winner and runner-up in the Prestige Stakes (G3), the Listed winners Sudoor (Fantastic Light) and Ethaara (Green Desert), the Group placed Muwaary (Oasis Dream) and the Listed-placed Yasmeen (Sea The Stars).
Tom Goff of Blandford said: "I think she is by far the best mare here, she is beautiful Dansili mare carrying to Dark Angel who is a great stallion. She is from one of Sheikh Hamdan's best families, tracing to Bahri and lots of superstar colts and fillies, mares such as this really don't grow on trees. The top Shadwell mares are as exciting as it comes, her new owners will definitely make the most of it."
The sale's previous best price was 460,000gns given in 2010. (15:59)
Lot 156: China Horse Club goes to 65,000gns for the unraced Timeline, a daughter of Ribchester and a half-sister to the Marwan Koukash-owned Gabrial (Dark Angel). He ran 93 times, won nine races and was placed second or third 30 times. An amazing 65 of those outings were at stakes level for two wins and 25 placings. He was from the first crop of his sire.
Timeline was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment for Manton Park Racing. (15:02)
Lot 130: the Godolphin draft continues to prove popular... John Ferguson, signing under Natalama Bloodstock, spends 135,000gns on Rainband (Medaglia D'Oro). She boasts some French Listed-placed black-type to her name
She is a daughter of Fitful Skies, a German Group 3 winner and runner-up in the E P Taylor Stakes (G1).
The family has been Godolphin / Darley-produced since the purchase of the Nelson Bunker Hunt-bred Wajd (Northern Dancer) by Sheikh Mohammed. She achieved a Group 2 winer in the Grand Prix d'Evry and Group 1 placings in the Prix Royal Oak, the Grosser Preis Von Baden, the Yorkshire Oaks and the Prix Vermeille. She was a daughter of the brilliant 15-time winner Dahlia and is also dam of Nedawi, winner of the St Leger.
Fitful Skies has a 2021 colt by American Pharoah and a 2022 full-sister to Rainband. (14:39)
Lot 127: Tally-Ho Stud goes to 180,000gns for First Smile (Dark Angel), who was sold carrying her first pregnancy. She is in-foal to Profitable and on a March 1st cover.
The grey four-year-old, who won once as a two-year-old and achieved a rating of 85, is out of the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) winner Jealous Again (Trippi). She is dam of three black-type runners, including Sceptical (Exceed And Excel), who finished second in the July Cup (G1), third in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (G1) and won the Woodland Stakes (L).
Third dam Sinister Spinster was a champion older mare in Canada, winner of the country's Matron Stakes (G2).
The mare was bought by Tony O'Callaghan and son Roger said: "We have a half-sister called Covetous, and she has bred a couple of nice Kodiacs."
That pair are called Luarca (2019) and Nine Tenths (2020), the former a two-time winner abroad, while the latter cost 300,000gns at Book 1 last autumn bought by Blandford Bloodstock. The mare also had a colt by the sire in spring 2021. (13:59)
Lot 122: Autumn Lily, from the family of High Hawk and from another side of the pedigree of Chachamaidee (Lot 97), is bought by Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock for 125,000gns. She is carrying to Masar on a February 11th service date.
"The Masars are nice and she comes from one of the great families of High Hawk, In The Wings, Alexandros is up there high, too. It is a family I know very well from my time at Darley and Godolphin," said McStay. " She is a very nice mare, a nice commercial prospect and if the yearling comes out looking like she does, we will be in good shape.
"She has bred a Group 1 performer already and these pedigrees don't come up very often and you have to bid bravely to get them, I am sure my client will be delighted."
Autumn Lily's Group 1 performer was Botanik (2018 by Golden Horn), who was placed in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud. She had a colt by Golden Horn in 2021 and a filly by Shamardal in 2020. (13:32)
Lot 121: the always popular Godolphin draft sees action from bidders and this mare Anne D'Autriche (Sea The Stars) sells for 110,000gns, bought by Rabbah Bloodstock (Kilfrosh). She is in-foal to the four-time Group 1 winner Ghaiyyath (Dubawi).
Anne D'Autriche is out of the Listed-placed mare Anna Mia (Monsun) from the leading family of Anna Of Saxony, ancestress of the champion Adayar, the Classic-placed Anna Salai, the Grade 1 winner Ave, and the French champion juvenile National Defense. The family also features the Australian Group 1 winners Helmet and Epaulette. (13:24)
Lot 98: Chachamaidee's daughter For Henry followed her mother through the ring – the Galileo eight-year-old bought by BBA Ireland for 100,000gns.
She is a full-sister to Klassique, winner of the Pinnacle Stakes (G3), and is in-foal to Advertise on an April 13 cover.
She has bred a winner – Rubbeldiekatz (Helmet), who has won this year as a three-year-old. (12:47)
Lot 97: the Matron Stakes (G1) winner Chachamaidee, a multiple Group 2 and Group 3 winner and a runner-up in the Sun Chariot Stakes (G1), makes 200,000gns, purchased by Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock.
"She has been bought for Andrew Black of Chasemore Farm," said Goff. "I have followed this mare for a while, I know this family very well. She is a lovely mare, and I thought she looked amazing for her age. I like the cover to Mohaather, I think he is an exciting stallion. Her Sea The Stars two-year-old [Capitano] is a nice horse, he is with Hugo Palmer and they like him. He is not doing a huge amount at the moment, but he is well liked.
"This is a great package and I am very excited to get her – I hope Chasemore can breed some fillies out of her."
Goff added: "Chasemore is having a fantastic year, they have got some really good horses on the track at the moment, it is very exciting."
Capitano was bought by SackvilleDonald for 160,000gns at the October Yearling Sale, while Narak, Chachamaidee's six-year-old daughter by Dubawi, was bought by Margaret O'Toole for 430,000gns at the December Sale.
Valiant Prince, the mare's 2018 Dubawi gelding, won his first Listed race at the beginning of June when successful in the Ganton Stakes at York.
It is deep family – third dam Legend Maker, the dam of the 1,000 Guineas winner Virginia Waters, is out of High Spirited, a full-sister to High Hawk, dam of In The Wings, and from the family of such stars as High Rise, Zomaradah, Dubawi, Infamy and Innuendo. (12:41)
Lot 82: My Propellor, a 13-year-old mare by Holy Roman Emperor, owned by Joey Barton and consigned by Keith Harte, is purchased by Jamie Railton for 50,000gns
"She has been bought for Paul Gardner of Springcombe Park Stud, breeder of Quiet Reflection. My Propellor is a dual stakes winner and out of a stakes-placed mare and is carrying an Iffraaj full-sibling to Prop Forward, who is now rated 98," said Railton.
Mandy Davies of Sporting Chance Racing, who manages Barton's racing interests, said: "Joey is reducing his bloodstock interests a little and so it is a bitter-sweet day. Joey bought My Propellor as a yearling and she was tough, honest and fast. We sent her to Iffraaj on the back of Prop Forward – he was a lovely yearling and has done so well on the track. We wish her new connections all the very best." (12:17)
Lot 79: Mountain Brave (Sepoy), a six-time winning filly who achieved a rating high of 95 and has run consistently throughout most of her career to remain on marks in the 90s since July 2020, makes 32,000gns. She has run twice this year, last time when down the field at York in a 0-110 fillies' 6f handicap.
She was covered on May 18 with Mohaather and is believed to be in-foal.
Her second dam Pizzicato (Statoblest) produced Wunders Dream, winner of the Flying Childers Stakes (G2) and the Molecomb Stakes (G3), and Grecian Dancer, the Group 3 winner of the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes (G3).
Third dam Musicianica is dam of Mensa, a champion in Hong Kong through 1999-2000 and winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1) at Sha Tin, and Firebolt, runner-up in the Hong Kong Sprint (G1). (11:52)
Lot 74: Taaqat, consigned by trainer James Tate's Jamefield Stables on behalf of Rabbah Bloodstock, makes 28,000gns, knocked down to BBA Ireland.
The Pivotal filly, who has been placed three times this year over 5f, is out of the Listed-placed Arch mare Taaqah and a half-sister to the Listed placed Into Mischief filly Madame Vestal. It is a family that stretches back to Grand Slam a dual Grade 1 winner in the US and runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. (11:40)
Lot 44: sold in-foal to this season's British leading first-season sire Havana Grey on a March 1st covering, Al Shoughor is bought for 20,000gns by Bearstone Stud. The four-year-old winning daughter of Shalaa was consigned by Barton Stud.
Al Shoughor is out of Full Mandate (Acclamation), the dam of three winners and a half-sister to Profitable, winner of the King's Stand Stakes (G1), and to Ridge Ranger, winner of the Summer Stakes (G3). (11:06)
Lot 33: Le Designe, a daughter of Siyouni, sells to an online bid of 180,000gns after a long battle from within the ring, the underbidder Matt Houldsworth, and from the successful digital buyer.
The Seamus Burns-bred daughter of the Galileo mare Oh Goodness Me, winner of the Park Express Stakes (G3) and third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas (G1), has run once since the catalogue was published.
She was consigned today by WH Bloodstock for owner Marc Chan and was bought by Yulong Investments, BBA Ireland's Michael Donohoe in charge of bidding. On the telephone he said: "She is a very good physical. Siyouni has done very well in Australia – she will be covered here on southern hemisphere time, Sam Fairgray [CEO of Yulong] will make a decision with the covering, and she will then ship. The Siyouni and Galileo cross has done very well in Australia, she is a very good looking filly and there are not too many Siyounis on the market." (10:32)
Lot 27: the unraced Ribchester filly Ski Club makes 32,000gns, bought by Ballyphillip Stud. She is a half-sister to Online Alexander (Acclamation), runner-up in the Flying Fillies Stakes (L) and dam of Royal Commando (No Nay Never), a Listed winner, and fourth placed in both the Mill Reef Stakes (G2) and the Commonwealth Cup (G1), and Yazaman (Kodiac), runner-up in the Richmond Stakes (G2).
Her Listed-winning second dam Two Clubs (First Trump) was dam of Red Clubs, winner of the Haydock Sprint Cup (G1).
Since the catalogue was printed, Ancestral Land (Sioux Nation), the first foal out of Ski Club's Kodiac half-sister Swing Out Sister, finished second on his first career start at two over 6f at Windsor. He holds an entry in the Phoenix Stakes (G1) for trainer Clive Cox and owner Isa Salman Al Khalifa.
Ski Club was sold today by breeder Deer Forest Stud. (10:16)

Tattersalls May NH Sale
End of Sale Statement At the conclusion of the Tattersalls May NH Sale, Head of Sales Matthew Prior commented:
“Tattersalls Park Paddocks in Newmarket has already established itself as a proven venue for selling high quality point-to-pointers and National Hunt horses in training having hosted relocated Tattersalls Cheltenham sales over the last two COVID-disrupted years. Those sales produced record prices as well as numerous top quality racecourse performers all of which encouraged us to host today’s inaugural May NH Sale in Newmarket.
“That decision was borne out with a sale that has achieved turnover of just shy of 3 million guineas as well as five point-to-pointers selling for 150,000gns or more and a top price of 310,000gns. Many of the British and Irish National Hunt fraternity’s most familiar faces were present at Park Paddocks resulting in solid trade and plenty of competition for the most sought after lots.
“We also took the decision to sell a number of store horses for the first time in Newmarket and whilst a top price of 35,000 guineas and an average of 13,368 guineas are respectable, the clearance rate was less than we would have hoped for.
"We are very appreciative of the support shown to us by store consignors and will reassess whether combining point-to-pointers and store horses is the optimal format for this fixture.” (16:23)

Lot 132: when selling Lot 8 earlier today for 310,000gns, Matty Flynn O'Connor said that it was now time to restock and the point-to-point trainer has wasted little time preparing for the next pointing season when going to 30,000gns for this three-year-old gelding by Youmzain.
Sold by Peter Nolan Bloodstock, the gelding is out of the Presenting mare All Star Lady.
It is the family of the star mare Aunty Dot, trained by Paul Webber, winner of three races including the Edward Hamner Handicap Chase (L), Shewas also placed 25 times, including when third in the Thyestees Chase (L) and the Grand National (L). (13:58)
Lot 127: the filly by Dragon Dancer and out Touch Of Ivory is sold by Nunstainton Stud to Richie McGrath for 20,000gns.
Touch Of Ivory (Rossini) won five races, and is dam of three winners. She is a half-sister to Harvest Joy, placed third in the Listed Star Stakes. (13:50)
Lot 119: the chestnut Nathaniel filly from Brookside Stud is bought by Monbeg Stables for 18,000gns.
She is out of the unraced Tiger Hill mare Parthenos, who is a half-sister to the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Top Of The Range (Alhaarth), to Mr Professor, also a Listed winner.
Nathaniel could be the sire of a Derby winner next week as he is sire of the current favourite Desert Crown. He also enjoyed NH jumps stakes race results last season with the Grade 1-placed Zanahiyr, who is trained by Gordon Elliott, and Concertista, who is trained by Willie Mullins, and the Scottish Grand National Christian Williams-trained runner-up, Kitty's Light.
Burning Victory also finished fourth in the Irish EBF Mares' Champion Hurdle (G1) for Mullins, while Antunes won the Swinton Handicap Hurdle (G3). (13:32)
Lot 111: the filly by Getaway, who finished third in the 2021-22 NH sires' table, makes 30,000gns, sold by Castledillon Stud. She was bought by Monbeg Stables.
She is out of the Irish TBA Mares' Hurdle (G3)-winning mare Mae's Choice (Presenting), also placed fourth at Grade 3 level over fences.
She is the dam of two winners from three runners, her daughter Saylavee (Shanotu) winning at bumper at Clonmel at the beginning of May for Willie Mullins. She was reported as looking as though she "could make up into useful novice hurdler". (13:28)
Lot 28: the Malone / Nicholls team goes again, this time spending 245,000gns on Divilskin, a gelding by Doyen and sold by Colin Bowe's Milestone Stables.
"It is the same story and is another for Ditchet," smiled Malone. "I have bought a couple of pointers this year by Doyen, and this horse was impressive in his run. I am happy to get this horse and Lot 9, they are two nice new recruits for the season. "
Divilskin, a half-brother to the Flemensfirth mare Pumped Up For Kicks, a Listed chase winner at Cheltenham, won at Largy on April 30. His dam Beauty Star (Shalford) is a half-sister to Tiger Cry, winner of the Galway Hurdle (G1), the Menolly Homes Handicap Hurdle (G1) and a winner and placed in the Grand Annual Chase (G3).
Divilskin was bought last spring by Bowe's Milestone Bloodstock for €28,000. (12:50)
Lot 9: becomes the most expensive horse by Telescope to sell in the sale ring so far, his daughter Seeyouimydreams making 235,000gns bought by Tom Malone/Paul Nicholls.
She won her mares' maiden point-to-point at Largy on April 9 for trainer Paul Martin Pierce for the Blackhall Stables Partnership. She had been purchased under the banner Rempods for just £10,500 at the 2021 Tattersalls Ascot December Sale. She was sold today by Andrew Pierce of Blackhall Stables.
Malone was delighted with his purchase and said: "She has come from a very good farm. Andrew said he gave her two bits of work and the gears she showed then was 'frightening'. But she has the pedigree for that, it is a proper pedigree and she was so impressive in her point. To me she is a 'gelding-type' filly and I have bought her for Paul Nicholls."
Malone added: "She has got all the bonuses, which for me is a massive addition – if she is above average, there is £60,000 to £100,000 in bonuses – you are getting some sort of money back. She is for sale and hopefully she is good one."
Of coming to Newmarket for the NH Sale, Malone smiled: "Wherever a sale is, I will be there!"
The pedigree enthused over by Malone includes two black-type winning brothers by Hernando – Songe, winner of the Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock (G2) and placed fourth in the Triumph Hurdle (G1), and Sandy Cay, a Listed-placed hurdler in France.
The second dam is the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Silvermine. She is dam of the Prix Jean Prat (G1) winner Sillery, the French Listed hurdle winner Sky, and Silvering, a Listed winner on the Flat. (12:39)
Lot 8: Matthew Flynn O'Connor has a fabulous year with his point-to-point sales horses, the best result coming when topping the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale with the sale of Deeply Superficial for £385,000.
He successfully sells his final four-year-old of the year – Ittack Blue, a winner on May 14 at Punchestown, for 310,000gns and bought by agent Ryan Mahon.
"He is a lovely horse, looks to have an enormous engine and goes to an existing client with Dan Skelton," said Mahon. "The vibes from Matty were good and the horse came highly recommended. He was impressive when he won."
Flynn O'Connor said: "That is it, they are all sold now! We have to restock now, that is the next thing. We've had a great season, thank god. We have had eight or nine four-year-old winners, it is nice to keep the ball rolling and finish strong – we had a bit of a quieter February to March as they got sick on me.
"This is a lovely horse, we always liked him at home, he was always good from breaking and through all his work, he just did everything properly from day one. You never expect when they take on 15 runners that they can win like he did."
Of the May Sale, Flynn O'Connor added: "I think this is a great sale. It is nice to be here, the facilities are great and everyone likes coming here. "
O'Connor bought the gelding for €30,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland May Sale (held last August) from Clifton Farm.
"He just looked very racey, and Coastal Path is a superb influence," he added. (12:16)
Lot 4: becomes the first horse at the Tattersalls May NH Sale to sell for a six-figure sum, Royal Defender making 155,000gns and bought by trainer David Pipe.
The four-year-old gelding won his point-to-point at Dawstown at the beginning of May for trainer Colin Bowe and owner Milestone Bloodstock Ltd.
The son of Solider Of Fortune was not sold as a three-year-old store horse last spring and Will Kinsey of Topspeed Thoroughbreds explained.
"He was owned by a pinhooking syndicate, he did not sell in the ring but we had three others that year who sold and he was a little bit backward then so we were happy to keep him," said Kinsey, who also runs Peel Bloodstock.
"We thought an awful lot of him at home, and Barry O'Neill and Colin Bowe then came to look at him. We sorted a shared deal between us privately and all the way through training over the winter they both kept telling me they though he is a really nice horse.
"If he were 100 per cent perfect in front I think he would have made more, but we are delighted and wish David Pipe all the best with him."
Of the decision to come to sell at the May Sale, Kinsey said: "Colin and Barry were in charge of that and it was always the plan really. He probably would have run earlier in the year, but they did not want to run him on the quicker ground, so they waited for the rain. He ran on gorgeous ground, and it has meant we have not had to wait until the autumn to sell him."
The gelding was bought by Thomas Green, Kinsey's business partner, as a two-year-old at the Tattersalls Ireland February Sale 2019 for €11,000.
David Pipe said: "We had Kings Palace from this family and he was impressive in his point-to-point. There probably aren’t too many similarities [physically], but hopefully they’ve got the same engine. We’ve done well buying from Colin Bowe in the past so he looks a nice addition to the yard. He’s for an existing owner in the yard.” (12:00)
Welcome to the Tattersalls May NH Sale. Selling starts at 11am, with point-to-pointers and horses in training through the ring ahead of the store horses.

Chairman’s Statement At the conclusion of the 2022 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented
“Significant increases in average, median and turnover are the mark of a very solid renewal of the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale, especially when combined with a highly creditable clearance rate in excess of 80%.
"The domestic British and Irish demand at all levels of the market has been matched by diverse international participation which has become the hallmark of this fixture. European buyers, particularly from Italy and Spain, have made a major contribution and they have been joined by buyers from South East Asia and the customary strong contingent of buyers from the Gulf region.
“Eight two-year-olds selling for 100,000 guineas or more and a record sale turnover reflect the strong demand at the top of the market and as ever there have been some notable pinhooking triumphs, but the most pleasing aspect of the sale has been the record equalling median which demonstrates real depth to the trade from start to finish.
"The consignors have supported the Guineas Breeze Up Sale strongly and it has been great to see the buyers respond accordingly, clearly encouraged by the sale’s reputation as a consistent source of Group 1 winners.
"The horses in training section of the sale also continues to thrive and the record turnover, huge rises in average and median and a clearance rate in excess of 90% have contributed to unprecedented combined turnover for the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale. ()

Lot 315: provides the pinhook result of the sale – the Awtaad filly was bought at the Tattersalls December Sale 2021 for just 2,000gns, she was sold today for 110,000gns.
Robbie Mills and fiancé Kirsty Milczarek of RMM Bloodstock could hardly believe their good fortune.
"I have been looking at her and scratching my head all winter wondering why I paid just that for her!" said Mills. "We got lucky and our judgement was right. She was in one of the last Shadwell drafts, so maybe she slipped through, but I really liked her – she was a great walker then and still is now. She has just bloomed all through her prep and blossomed."
The filly was bred by Shadwell and is out of the mare Hawaafez (Nayef), who won the Cumberland Stakes (G3) and the Listed Aston Park Stakes. It is the further family of Wedding Bouquet and champion Moonlight Cloud.
Hawaafez's 2019 foal Rouge Millennium (Dubawi), won on her first career start when successful at Weatherby on April 24 for trainer Tom Clover. She had been purchased by JS Bloodstock for 35,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mares' Sale.
Hawaafez has now had three runners and two winners, including Rouge Millennium's full-brother, the seven-time winner Khatm (Dubawi), who was BHA rated 84 at his best. He was sold to Ibn Ghayam for 55,000gns at the Autumn Horses In Training Sale 2021 by trainer George Boughey.
Mills added: "I doubt we'll do this again! I hope I do, I will be trying to. We have been doing breezers for the last few years, we've had some nice winners, but a result like this is a dream, it is our best result without a doubt."
The couple's business is based at Bill O'Gorman's Seven Springs Stables and from 21 stables they pre-train for various Newmarket trainers, while selling a few youngsters alongside.
"It was a struggle to buy yearlings last autumn, we had one bullet to fire and it hit the target," said Mills.
Ex-jockey Milczarek now rides work for Charlie Appleby, and the couple have two children.
"It is busy trying to fit it all in, but it works," said Milczarek with understatement.
The couple are planning to get married in September – and some of today's profit will be put aside to pay for the big day. (19:44)
Lot 299: the Brinckley family of Ard Erin Stud get a result with their first Tattersallls breeze-up consignment – their homebred Gregorian filly selling for 90,000gns, bought by MLW Bell Racing.
Dad David Brinkley and sons Tom and Davey were all at Tattersalls today with their three lots, the team also getting a good return with Lot 184 (Tamayuz ex Rebecca Rolfe) who sold for 90,000gns.
Davey Brinckley explains: "It is our first Tattersalls breeze-up, we are delighted. Dad bred the filly, it was always the plan to come and breeze. We want to do a bit of everything at home – yearlings and breezers, you name it, we'll do it!"
Explaining how the covering plans for the mare Farran (Fast Company) came to include Gregorian, Dave Brinkley said: "Maurice Burns at Rathasker [who stands Gregorian] has helped us in the game for a long time. He has been a big supporter of us."
The mare's 2019 filly Glenall was bred by the Brinkleys and retained. She ran in France., where she collected a fourth placing in the Listed Prix des Reves d'Or trained by Gavin Hernon. The family reported that she is "now doing herself proud in the US".
"Let's hope this filly is up to scratch as well," smiled Brinkley, adding: "Farran is an unbelievable mare, we bred her as well and she was supposed to go to a sale but she cut her back leg. It has worked out."
The boys have completed their equine education and are now back at home at the County Laois-based farm, which is devloping in to more of a stud famr now.
"We have always farmed, but the horses have taken over," says Davey. "Myself and Tomas have worked around the world – I went to Australia and France, Tomas was in the US. We did a good stint with the Kavanaghs at Kildaragh, and Tomas was with Patrick Burns at Loughtown Stud and then we moved back home."
It might have been the first breeze-up sale at Tattersalls for the family, but it is not the first good sale ring result for the boys – at last year's Tattersalls Ireland September Sale they sold a Make Believe colt for £85,000, they had pinhooked him for just €8,000. (19:28)
Lot 239: agent Alessandro Marconi goes to 150,000gns for this Mehmas filly sold by John Nolan. She was a vendor buyback for €16,000 as a yearling and is out of the Group 3 Naas Juvenile Sprint Stakes fourth-placed What About Me (Bertolini), a winner as a two-year-old.
"She is for an owner based in Dubai," said Marconi. "The [consignor] Mr Nolan is more experienced in life and in the game than myself and he highly recommended her.
"She did a highly impressive breeze and the underbidder Michael O'Callaghan is very shrewd and has been buying more breeze-up horses and than anyone else and has been very successful!"
He added: "The filly is something special and is the pick of the sale, and she is staying for now in England. We will make a plan in half an hour!"
Of the stallion influence, Marconi enthused: "Mehmas is a great sire, we really like these new speedy sires, such as him and Sioux Nation, we like the speed and that they were precocious. But it is the breeze that is important, time is not everything, it is more the way they gallop out and how they are afterwards.
Of purchasing at this spring's breeze-up sales, he said: "We did not manage to buy at the Craven Sale – this is a good sale for us." (17:21)
Lot 233: "He is going to Ed Bethell," said Tom Biggs of Blandford Bloodstock after purchasing this son of Harry Angel for 100,000gns. "We had a good horse last year called Fearby [2020 October Book 3 21,000gns graduate]
"He was a syndicate horse and they have recently sold him so had a bit of money and have gone back in again, wanted something else.
"This is a lovely looking horse – I don't think he is a 'now' horse, but I hope he'd be running July/August and then has the scope to go on again."
Sod by Glending Stables, he is out of the Dalakahani mare Totsiyah from the extended family of the Group 1 winners Footstepsinthesand, Pedro The Great, Power and Curvy.
Fearby (Havana Gold), who was owned by Clarendon Thoroughbred Racing, won the Listed Dragon Stakes on his third career start and went on to finish second in the Mill Reef Stakes (G2), behind Wings Of War last September. (16:36)
Lot 190: the daughter of Highland Reel is bought by Micheál Orlandi of Compas Equine with trainer Dave Loughnane at 125,000gns She was sold by Aguiar Bloodstock, having been purchased by Robson Aguiar for €16,000 as a foal.
"She breezed very well, and Dave has done well with breezers," said Orlandi, who added: "Dave came here after racing at Ascot yesterday, saw her this morning and liked her, and she came highly recommended."
Of Highland Reel, Orlandi said: "Dave has one by Highland Reel that he likes a lot, that gave him a lot of confidence for this filly, Highland Reel was a very good racehorse. Dave is on the crest of a wave at the moment."
Loughnane won the Group 3 Merriebelle Stables Commonwealth Cup at Ascot yesterday with the 2021 Craven Sale graduate Go Bears Go, who was purchased by Alex Elliott and Amo Racing for 150,000gns. Last summer the colt by Kodi Bear won the Railway Stakes (G2) and finished second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) to Twilight Gleaming.
The trainer reported after the race that Go Bears Go will be heading for the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
"He's so tough. I'd have preferred a lead, but he's so much pace and tactical speed and, as soon as Ehraz headed him, it was never in doubt. He'd run through a brick wall for you and is as honest as the day is long. I love him to bits and we did enough to get the job done today, but he's not fully furnished yet. There's a lot to look forward to and we'll come back here for the Commonwealth Cup," said Loughnane. (15:23)
Lot 177: bought as a yearling by Shanaville Stables for €16,000 from Orchardstown Stud, this daughter of Sioux Nation sells today for 110,000gns. She was purchased by agent James Delahooke.
"She is for the Scotts of Park Farm Stud," explained Delahooke. "They are going to send her to trainer George Boughey. He already trains a nice filly for them who came out of the Craven Sale last year and who won this week. She is called Mystic Wells.
"This filly was my pick of the sale, she catches the eye. If she can run, she will be a breeding prospect for the farm. Sioux Nation has had some winners and there was a lot of competition for her."
The filly's dam Qamarain (Hard Spun) won as a three-year-old and is a from the family of Corinthian (Pulpit), winner of the Metropolitan Handicap (G1), and Desert Hero (Sea Hero), winner of the San Rafael Stakes (G2) and third in the Santa Anita Derby (G1).
Last year's purchase Mystic Wells (Kitten's Joy) is a 77,000gns Craven Sale graduate, bought by James Delahooke. She is rated 84 and won a 1m2f fillies' handicap at Brighton two days ago having finished second at Windsor on her debut this season. She won as a juvenile over7f. (14:52)
Lot 170: consigned by Mayfield Stables, Jamie Piggott spends 110,000gns on this son of Zoffany. The February-born colt is out of the Pivotal mare Pivotal Era, the dam of three winners and a half-sister to Danehurst, a champion older mare in Italy in 2002 and winner of the Flying Five (G2) and three Group 3 races, and a full-sister to Humouresque, winner of the Prix Penelope (G3).
Piggott said: "He goes to John Ryan for Graham Smith-Bernal. We got a nice Ardad at the Craven and I think this horse matches up nicely. He has a bit of scope, vetted as clean as a whistle and was the third-fastest breeze on our timings, you can't ask for any more than that.
"They don't make Zoffany's anymore, and he will be missed. It is nice to be able to get one in to John's yard and no doubt he will do well with him. He has had a lot of success over the years for Graham, and I am really grateful Graham is still supporting us." (14:40)
Lot 145: trainer Michael O'Callaghan buys this Time Test colt for 160,000gns. It is the first by the sire bought by O'Callaghan, who is such a strong supporter of the breeze-up sales and who bought three lots for a spend of 257,000gns at the Craven Sale.
"He is a lovely horse, he did one of the better breezes, lovely looking horse," said O'Callaghan. "He has a nice pedigree and is out of a Galileo mare. I though he has the best physical in the sale, hopefully he goes on to be useful."
Of plans, the trainer added: "He is maybe a 7f maiden, but he is forward enough, he could start in three or four weeks. I am delighted to get him."
Of this year's purchases he said: "He is the seventh breeze-up horse I have bought this year, we had a few more bought at this point last year but we keep tipping away and try to get the numbers up as well as a quality bunch. I bought more of a spread of horses last year, but I am trying to buy more of a quality horse this year."
The colt, a first foal out of the winning Galileo mare Luna Mare, was sold by Tally-Ho Stud, the leading consignor at the Craven Sale. The farm paid 65,000gns for him as a yearling at the October Book 3 Sale buying him from Culworth Grounds Stud, which had paid 32,000gns to buy him as a foal from Brook Stud. (13:56)
Lot 143: the son of Soldier Hollow is bought by Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock for 130,000gns, sold by Powerstown Stud.
"He is a lovely horse, he is going to Joseph O'Brien and stays in training in Ireland. He is a gorgeous individual, he was bought at the BBAG Yearling Sale very well by Tom Whitehead [Powerstown Stud]; it was actually the day everyone got stuck in the hotel due to the fire the night before. Tom missed the fire and bought the horse!"
Boman added: "I had to come back and buy the horse this year. He is a lovely horse and breezed very well, he is very quick for a stayer as he is a horse bred to get a 1m4f. He showed a lot of speed and is a gorgeous individual."
When asked if in fact so much speed in a stayer could be negative, Boman explained: "Sometimes a horse does go to too quick for its pedigree, but it is all a matter of opinion, and weighing things up – he did a particularly good time for stayer, but it was a top 40 time not a top five time. We are not buying simply on time, a good stride length and a number of things about the horse are important."
The March-born colt, who was bought for €28,000 as a yearling by Whitehead, is out of Loyalty (Lando), a two-time winner in France and a half-sister to Lucky Speed (Silvano), winner of the Deutsches Derby (G1). Loyalty has had one runner, a filly called Lonia who has won in Germany since the catalogue was published (13:41)
Lot 136: the daughter of No Nay Never is bought by trainer Richard Spencer for 78,000gns, who signed the docket for owner Phil Cunningham.
After signing the docket, Spencer said: "I was watching the breeze and liked her, she is a good mover. Seeing her in the flesh I felt she has a good temperament and is a good physical. Obviously she has also got a page to back that up, which is always a bonus. She has been bought by Phil, but we might find some partners for her, too."
Spencer added: "I had a list of what I liked breeze, try and coincide with the times, but we are not too worried about the times."
The filly is out of the Group 3 Park Stakes third-placed Last Waltz (Danehill Dancer) and was sold by Egmont Stud. She was withdrawn from her assignment at the yearling sales. (13:28)

"He is a stayer, he is sound, he has no problem with the vet, he likes good ground and he is exactly what my client is looking for – a horse who can stay and run in Group races in Italy," said Bozzi. "He goes into training with Bruno Grizzetti and has been bought for a long-standing client of mine. He has had horses in Italy before, has some now in France, but this horse will be trained in Italy."
Bozzi predicated a busy autumn for Halimi: "We have a lot of races in Italy over this sort trip from September to October and November."
Halimi has run 30 times, won five races including a Group 3 at Meydan and the Listed Devoy Stakes at Naas. Previously trained by Jim Bolger, he has been trained by Simon and Ed Crisford since January 2021. (12:26)
Lot 77 and Lot 82: both horses are bought by Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah for 50,000gns apeice.
Wolsey, offered by Jamie Railton Bloodstock and sold for Qatar Racing, makes 50,000gns. He is going to Saudi Arabia, bought by Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah, but as explained by the Sheikh's representative may stay in the UK for a time first, plans are fluid.
The Kitten's Joy colt, BHA rated 75, has yet to win a race, but has twice finished second, last time out on April 23 at Doncaster over 1m4f.
He is out of the Grade 3-winning mare Justaroundmidnight, dam of the American Oaks (G1) winner Duopoly (Animal Kingdom).
The three-year-old colt Fraction (Lot 82), by War Front and out of the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1) winner Proportional (Beat Hollow), the 2008 champion two-year-old in France, has run once, also in France for Francis-Henri Graffard. He was sold as part of the Juddmonte draft. (11:37)
Lot 50: Neil Mulholland Racing goes to 50,000gns for the Bethell Racing-offered Trolley Boy, a bumper winner in December. The four-year-old Casamento gelding also finished second in a bumper last October.
He is a Charles Cyzer homebred out of the Dubawi mare Where I Be, who is the dam of three winners and a half-sister to the Group 2 placed On Our Way / Chater Way (Oasis Dream), who has also been Listed placed in Sha Tin.
"The form of his bumpers has worked out, he is a nice stamp of a horse, if you go and try and buy a three-year-old store in Ireland over the next few months will cost you even more," said Neil Mulholland. "This horse is broken in, he is a good mover, a good walker, he has finished second and first, I think he is a good calculated risk for someone for a bit of fun with, fingers crossed he can bend his knee and jump!"
Of ownership plans, Mulholland added: "I have owners who are looking for horses but I like to get them back home first. He could be a dual purpose horse so just need to work out who he will suit. I am just delighted to be brining him home." (10:59)
Lot 46: Franklin William, the well-bred three-year-old son of Frankel, is heading to Qatar, bought by Jason Singh on behalf of owner Abdulatif Hussain Al-Emadi, who was giving instructions on the telephone. The colt cost his new owner 45,000gns, and the underbidders included Alan King who was standing with Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstock.
"He will stay in the UK for a short while before shipping, it is hot in Qatar at the moment," said Singh.
The three-year-old colt is rated 67 and ran to a seventh place at Yarmouth on April 19, having lost his near-fore shoe. He finished fourth at Southwell over a mile at the beginning of the month.
He is out of the dual Group 3 winner and Group 1 Cheveley Park-placed mare Kiyoshi (Dubawi).
Franklin William was sold by Jamie Railton on behalf of owner Qatar Racing Ltd, having been trained by Andrew Balding. (10:38)
