Lot 767:
I'm A Gambler, sold by Kingsley Park, makes 850,000gns and becomes the third-most expensive ever horse sold at the Autumn Horses In Training Sale.
Bids came from around the ring and from around the world with bidding connections hailing from Qatar and Saudi, but it was the US connections of Red Baron's Barn and Rancho Temescal, sat with Alistair Donald, who were successful at 850,000gns. The Saudi Arabian-based Najd Stud was underbidder at 825,000gns.
Tim Cohen of Red Barons Farm laughed: "The bidding was certainly very creative!"
Cohen added of his reasons for being prepared to go so high to buy I'm A Gamber: "It is hard to find a 'solid' three-year-old and he is one of the highest-rated in the catalogue; physically he is beautiful. Certainly I did not want to go that far, but I didn't come this far not to do something worthwhile!"
Cohen had earlier been underbidder on Persian Royal (Lot
762), he added: "I definitely liked this horse more and his price reflected that for everybody."
Of immediate plans he outlined: "There are a few three-year-old stakes left this year in California, but he has had quite a few races, so we will finish the year and then he can have a little break."
He added: "He is quality individual, he has already proven that, so if we can maintain that – and if can enhance that will be even better! He does not have much left to prove to me."
The son of No Nay Never has won nine races from 24 starts and £225,591 in prize-money earnings, and he added the 7f Guisborough Stakes (L) to his CV at the beginning of October.
He is rated 110 and has had a mark over 100 for his last four starts, winning the Leopardstown Sovereign Path Premier Handicap in September off 106.
Consignor Charlie Johnson said: "It was quite some theatre because bidders that seemed to drop out of the running suddenly came back for more! It just showed what high demand he was in. He’s a phenomenal physical, a beautiful horse, and he’s had no issues all the way through his career. He’s been an easy horse to train as he’s very sound and very tough and he’s really taken off in the last four or five months. It’s a phenomenal result.
“Watching trade I thought he was going to make 400,000gns maybe 500,000gns on a good day, so the end result is quite fantastic.
“Normally you wouldn’t sell good horses like that but the reality is, I spoke to John Brown [owner] a few weeks ago and his dream campaign for next year would involve winning the Lennox Stakes. Well the horse has just earned five, six or maybe even seven times the prize-money of that race for selling the horse. It leaves a huge hole in our yard to sell a 110-rated horse but economically it was a logical decision for the owner."

Lot 762:
Persian Royal joins the Wathnan Racing team, the Al Kazeem gelding sold for 450,000gns and bought by Olly Tait, who was sat in the gods with trainer Alban Elie De Mieulle.
The three-year-old was sold by Barton Stud on behalf of trainer Roger and Harry Charlton, and owner-breeder John Deer of Oakgrove Stud.
Oakgrove's stud manager David Hilton said: "It is a strong market, the horse has done fantastically well and been well trained and, to go through the ratings as he has done, well not many horse do that. He will suit the purchaser."
Of the decision to sell, he said: "Everyone is always looking for a stallion and when you realise you have not got one you can probably aim for here, with a horse that sort of progressive profile and a pedigree to match – it is the Cumani/ Fittocks family and we bought into it a while ago and we have had to patient. This guy has done a great job for us.
"I have to give huge thanks to the team at home, the trainers and Barton Stud for consigning so well."
He added with the farm's own consigning plans: "The mare has got a Frankel colt foal and he is coming here in December [Lot 1053]. He sells on the Friday and he is a lovely big scopey sort so fingers crossed he goes well."
Tait reported of the latest and most expensive purchase so far this week for the new Qatar racing entity Wathnan: "He is a beautiful horse, his form is excellent, he looks progressive and he is super consistent. He will be a nice horse for this season, but also for seasons to come."
"We have come to buy enough horses for the stable to be successful and of the quality to make the stable successful. You never how things will go until you get here, you put a value on them and see how you go. Every horse sale you get to you always have to pay more for some horses than you expect, and some you pay a little less."
(20:25)
Lot 754A:
wildcard entry High Definition has been bought to go jumping, reported Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock after bidding to 350,000gns for the Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed son of Galileo.
“He is a very nice horse, as good a horse as is in this sale, a very very high class horse, high rated top class form. He is a beautiful individual, he has been very well trained by Aidan O’Brien. It is very rare that a horse of this calibre appears in a sale ring, very happy to get him," said McStay.
"He is for an existing, international client and he goes to Joseph O’Brien to go jumping."
He is rated 117 and he collected his Group 1 form this year when finished second in the Tattersalls Gold Cup to Alenquer and third in the Coronation Cup to Hukum.

Lot 741:
Earl Of Tyrone by Australia is going to Australia, bought by Ronald Rauscher for Australian Bloodstock.
The gelding consigned by Jamie Railton has been in training with Paddy Twomey for owner Robert Moran.
The gelding has black-type to his name from his victory in this summer’s 1m4f Martin Moloney Stakes (G1), the third leg in a hat-trick of victories this summer which saw his rating go from 79 to 100.
Rauscher said: “The objective is staying races in Australia, I know where he has come from and who trains him very well, he was obvious for us. I thought there might be a bit more action on him, so I am not unhappy where we landed. He is a very nice horse, very correct, very well looked after.”

Lot 712:
Kyeema, bred by Carisbrooke Stud, owned by Mrs Yvonne Jacques, trained by William Haggas and sold today by Somerville Lodge Ltd, fetches 360,000gns to an online bid from Domeland, a breeding and racing ownership organisation based in Australia. Horses run under the banner Viribright Racing.
"My boss really liked this horse – he will be heading to Sydney, we are not sure about a trainer yet," said representative Roy Chang.
By Siyouni, the colt is the winner of two races in succession – at Catterick at the beginning of August over 7f and two weeks later back over 7f at York.
After two subsequent unlucky runs at Kempton and Chester, the colt has gone on to prove his liking for the York track finishing second in the 6f Listed Rockingham Stakes earlier this month.
Viribright Racing enjoyed a fourth place in Randwick's 1m2f Group 1 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (G1) for three-year-olds at the weekend with Matcha Latte, a colt by Maurice

Lot 685:
"We are looking for good quality horses, Sir Michael recommended him very strongly, he vetted extremely clean, there were no issues on X-rays," said Johnny McKeever after spending 300,000gns on Just Fine for Waterhouse Bott Racing.
He added: "I don't know if there have been many Sea The Stars in Australia, but this horses's level of form is pretty good. He is the right sort of horse [to head to Australia] and we have tried on a few others – we were underbidder on Chairman [Lot 304A] and this morning on Inverness [Lot 468].
"He will head straight down to Australia. He will have some time off and be given some time to acclimatise, and we generally only see how good they are about a year later."
Just Fine was owned by and bred by the late Queen and McKeever said: "It is a while since I have bought one from the Royal Studs, Gai Waterhouse trained for the late Queen and will be thrilled to be getting a horse that she owned."
McKeever added: "Sea The Stars is one of my all time favourite all-time racehorses and sires, I rate him up there with all the great ones, and except for Frankel, is one of the best staying stallions in the world."
Just Fine is rated 91, and has won three races, including last time out when a first winner for The King at Leicester on October 4. The same race was won in 2021 by Pied Piper, who was bred and owned by The Queen.
Pied Piper, a son of New Approach, was subsequently sold at the 2021 Autumn Horses In Training Sale when bought for 225,000gns byJoseph Logan / Andrew and Gemma Brown. The chestnut gelding has gone on to enjoy a Grade 2 hurdling success at Cheltenham, finish third in the Triumph Hurdle (G1) at The Festival and collect a runner-up spot in the Jewson Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle (G1) at Aintree.
A leading hope for top honours over hurdles this season, he finished sixth in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot, and won last weekend back at Cheltenham on his first start of this NH season.

Lot 684:
Ruling, trained by Joseph O'Brien to a rating of 101 and to a Listed third placing in the Nijinsky Stakes over 1m4f, makes 300,000gns, bought by Will Bourne for Australian-based trainer Ciaron Maher.
Last time out in the Irish Cesarewitch Stakes the four-year-old bay son of Camelot finished fourth behind Waterville, yesterday's top lot bought by Waller / Mulcaster for 410,000gns (Lot
275).
"From here he will go to Harry Eustace before going into quarantine," said Bourne. "He is a nice athletic horse, he will go to Ciaron's Sydney operation. He is a genuine stayer. He has had a break but come back well and he has the perfect profile for the Sydney Autumn Carnival, the carnival can really accommodate a horse like him and there is a lot of prize-money on offer."
of plans here at Tattersalls, he said: "We are looking for five or six in total, but it is very buoyant market and they are hard to buy."
(17:08)
Lot 643:
Eddie's Boy, this year's winner of the Prix Eclipse (G3) and the Super Sprint Stakes, and placed four times including in the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (G2), the Molecomb Stakes (G3), the Windsor Castle Stakes (L), the Dragon Stakes (L) and the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes, is bought online by Will Douglass of Charlie Gordon Watson Bloodstock and Al Wasmiyah Stud for 320,000gns.
The two-year-old grey colt by Havana Grey was bought here at the Tattersalls Somerville Sale 2021 by Blandford Bloodstock / Middleham Park for 45,000gns.
He was raced by Middleham Park Racing Xlv & Partner and trained by Archie Watson.
"He is an absolutely cracking-looking horse, he has danced every dance this year and has vetted brilliantly, you can't knock what he has done," said Douglass. "He is a well-made, strong and solid, and is going to do well in Qatar. I think he has the best two-year-old form in the catalogue.
"He will aim first for the Al Rayyan Stakes, which is run in mid-December, and then for the Al Biddah Mile in early February. We have managed to buy the winner for the last seven years so there is no pressure!"
Douglass added: "The Havana Greys just look tough, tenacious, genuine, straightforward, confident and nice tempered horses, solid leg-in-each-corner horses."
Of plans for Qatar, Douglass outlined: "Plans are a bit up in the air at the moment, but we found it works better to leave the horses here for the December race and run them off the plane, then leave them in Qatar for the later race."
Tim Palin, partner and director of racing for Middleham Park, was delighted with the sales price.
He said: "A 45,000gns buy at Tattersalls to selling today, there is a certain synergy there, we have sold really well and it is just a privilege to be dining at the top table and selling at the top table.
"Horse such as him and The Platinium Queen show that even for the cheaper sort of horse, that if you club together and share the expense that you can achieve and get to the best places. He has been a fantastic success story under Archie's tutelage."
Of Middleham Park's Group 1-winning filly The Platinium Queen, who was a 57,000gns Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up purchase, he said: "She travels to the US on Saturday for her Breeders' Cup assignment. We are looking forward to a fantastic race. She is favourite, we could do with a good draw, it is not imperative but important. Hollie Doyle is booked. Let's hope we can got over and serve it up to the Americans in their own back yard. We will have around 20 members heading over."
(16:45)
Lot 635:

(15:35)
Lot 593:
Honky Tonk Man joins the Najd Stud purchasing list, the three-year-old colt sold by Beckhampton House Stables with Barton Sales for 150,000gns. He has won twice and picked up over £31,000 in prize-money earnings, last time out finishing fourth at Ascot over 6f and running off a handicap mark of 90.
He is an Amanda Skiffington 68,000gns October Book 2 purchase.
(14:18)
Lot 521:
trainer Philip Kirby goes to 150,000gns to buy Farhan from John Butler Racing, and he gets to fill an exciting order.
"He is for James and Susan Cookson, they have had shares in a few horses with me, but fancied one on their own and one who could give them some good days out," said Kirby. "He is a horse to run in big races, he is not to go jumping, he will stay in the Flat for now and he is straightforward nice horse. I have been struggling to find a horse to suit, hopefully he will fit the bill."
Of immediate plans Kirby outlined: "As long as he is okay we will aim to run in the November Handicap, but I do need to chat with James who is away at the moment."
Kirby added: "We used to have 80 per cent jumpers, but I am trying to level it out a bit – we probably have 60/40, I am just trying to bring it a bit more together."
The four-year-old Farhan is by Zoffany, has won three races and is rated 98. He last won a Class 2 handicap in August over 1m4f and run in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes on his last start.
(12:14)
Lot 498:
X J Rascal, a two-year-old colt by Kodiac and rated 88, the winner of three, is heading to the sun in California bought by MeahLloyd Bloodstock for a new client in the US. He cost 155,000gns and was previously trained by George Boughey.
David Meah is at Park Paddocks and explained what is in store for the colt.
"We bought him for Steve Taub, a new client in California," he explained. "We have known him for a long time, 20 years, but he has just reached out to us to try and find a few horses. We bought a filly privately last week so he was looking for a colt, and we really like this horse. We had to stretch buy him, but we really liked him – his next stop is California! He goes into training with Kristin Mulhall.
"For a two-year-old he is very well built, a very strong horse. In the US, the horses are trained on the Dirt so you don't want a weaker or small horse, you need a good strong horse, and he fits that profile.
"He has had seven races but you wouldn't know he has had those races, George and his team have done a great job with this horse. I know George was a bit sad to loose him as he thinks he is a really nice horse, he would have liked to have kept him for next year.
"He is a two-year-old who has had seven races yet he looks like a three-year-old who has had two races. He is very clean limbed and has the profile for what we want to do in the US."
(11:48)
Lot 468:
Inverness (Highland Reel) is heading to Qatar and the training stables of Alban Elie De Mieulle, joining yesterday's purchases of Hello Deira (Lot
148), Bolthole (Lot
300), Auditor (Lot
314) and Band Width (Lot
336), the quintet bought by Olly Tait for ownership interest Wathnan Racing. Inverness cost 380,000gns, and is the most expensive purchase made by the group so far.
The three-year-old Inverness has been trained throughout his career by Charlie Hills for owner Steven Rocco and Partners, he has won twice and run eight times. He was successful at Haydock in September in a Class 2 1m6f handicap off a mark of 90.
"He has very consistent, progressive form, and he will go on firm ground," said Tait. "He is a horse could hopefully be competitive in the Qatar Derby. He is that level of horse, he wasn't inexpensive, but that is what you have to pay for a horse of that quality. He is very willing and his form stands up very well.
"There is a big programme of racing in Qatar, and Wathnan Racing is very ambitious, looking for horse who can win races at different levels. In time, a broader Middle East campaign for the horses could be on the radar."

Red N Blue Candy, offered today by Tom Dascombe Racing, is bought by Najd Stud for 140,000gns.
The Twirling Candy two-year-old filly was a winner in September and followed that up with a sixth place, beaten just three and a half lengths, in the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes on just her third start.
She is BHA rated 94.

Lot 323:
Bourne adds Charterhouse to the shopping basket, going to 130,000gns for the Charming Thought four-year-old gelding.
From John Joseph Murphy's yard and sold by The Castlebridge Consignment, he is the winner of four races, last time successful over a mile in the Listed Ruby Stakes at The Curragh. He had previously finished third in the Group 3 Desmond Stakes.
(19:40)
Lot 304A:
the wildcard entry Chairman is bought by Will Bourne, bloodstock manager for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock. The Almanzor colt set the team back 400,000gns, but Bourne was so taken with the individual that they were prepared to bid to that figure in order to secure the three-year-old.
He said: "We were really impressed when we saw him as a physical, he is a very athletic horse and isn't carrying too much condition. What we have observed, is that the [European] horses who have worked for him are horses that are not too heavy and we don't have to work too much, obviously we have different facilities as opposed to here. I think he is a horse who should suit, he has been racing in those good handicap and I will leave it to Ciaron from here!"
He added: "We were looking for a horse who can get a bit of distance, prize-money is so good for the distance races compared to here and think he is a horse who will really suit."
It is currently pretty early in the morning in Australia, but Bourne said: "Ciaron's alarm goes off at 3am in the morning – it is about 3.30am so he was well across it!"
Chairman, a Dermot Farrington 75,000gns October Book 2 yearling purchase, is BHA rated 92. He won twice for trainer
Freddie and Martyn Meade in May over 1m4f and 1m2f – at Salisbury and then Bath.
He has finished good seconds on his last two starts – over 1m2f in a Class 3 July handicap at Chester, stepping up to a 1m4f Class 2 Ascot handicap in September.
(18:22)
Lot 303:
Red Baron's Barn & Rancho Temescal goes to 210,000gns for Bellstreet Bridie, a three-year-old filly by Sir Percy and out of Mambo Gold (Medaglia D'Oro).
She is the winner of three races for trainer Michael Bell, her victories coming in a hat-trick succession through August and September this year. She is BHA rated 80.
She has run 12 times and only finished out of the places once at the end of her two-year-old season. She was bought as a yearling for just 10,000gns here at Book 3 in 2020.
Rancho Temescal's Tim Cohen, who was sat with Alistair Donald, said of his new purchase: "I think she will go a bit of ground in California, that division is getting a little light, so with a younger filly she should do well for the year. We could give her a break after that and bring her back at four. That's the plan.
"We thought we'd have to go to that sort of money, but the exchange rate helps!" he laughed, adding: "I am going to pay tomorrow before the rate goes up!"
(18:12)
Lot 279:
Legend Of Xanadu, last weekend's winner of the 6f Doncaster Stakes (L), sells to Al Ghazali Stud for 140,000gns, a fifth purchase so far today by the Qatari trainer.
The Sixties Icon colt is the winner of three races from 13 starts for trainer Mick Channon and owner Box 41, victories that also include the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom in the summer. He was also placed in the Rose Bowl Stakes (L).
(18:00)
Lot 275:
consigned by Coolmore, Waterville is bought by Guy Mulcaster and Chris Waller Racing, and the antipodean-based pair had to spend 410,000gns to ensure they could take their new purchase home to the southern hemisphere.
The Camelot three-year-old colt has some smart form to his name in Ireland when trained by Aidan O'Brien, as well as a developing profile as his highlight victory in the 2m Irish Cesarewitch in September confirms.
"We saw him when we saw him in June when we were at Aidan's and his form has gone on since," said Mulcaster. "I spoke to Chris this morning and he was keen to get the horse, so fingers crossed he works out for us.
"He is a well-bred horse, he has been looked after, he has not had many runs, he has got a high profile, he looks obvious for us. We have not had many by Camelot ourselves, but he has done well in Australia."
Waterville, who has earned prize-money earnings of £285,903, is a son of Holy Moon, a Listed-winning Hernando mare. She is a prolific dam of talented horses – her progeny include the two-time Oaks (Yorkshire and Irish) winner Sea Of Class, the Premio Lydia Tesio (G1) winners Charity Line and Final Score, the Group 2 Oaks d'Italia winner Cherry Collect, the Group 3 winner Wordless, as well as two further black-type placed runners.
All her 12 runners (from 13 foals) are winners.
Camelot's top performers in Australia so far have been the Underwood Stakes (G1) and South Australian Derby (G1) winner Russian Camelot, and the Cox Plate (G1) and Tancred Stakes (G1) winner Sir Dragonet.
(17:29)
Lot 246:
the three-year-old Cadmus is heading Down Under, the Gleneagles colt bought by Badgers Bloodstock to join the Anthony and Sam Freeman training partnership in Victoria, Australia. He cost the new team 160,000gns.
A Class 3 novice stakes winner for trainer Andrew Balding over 1m4f at Ascot last time at the end of September, finishing a half-length ahead of the Gosden-trained Sweet William, Cadmus has a rating of 84. He has run just three times and also finished second at Wolverhampton over 1m4f in August and fourth on his career debut over 1m2f at Sandown in June.
"Hopefully, he has got his best days ahead of him, he is a very unexposed horse. I loved the way he quickened when he won at Ascot last tine out, the second is a half-decent horse as well, and they pulled a clear of the field," said buyer Tom Pritchard-Gordon.
"Hopefully, he will suit racing in Australia. We will see how he progresses, he has only had three runs, he won last time, he is going to like firm ground, and is a horse who gets a trip. He has a massive advantage over Australian horses over that distance.
"He was recommended by the trainer and vetted out well."
Of the pedigree, Pritchard-Gordon added: "We know that Juddmonte family so well, the 'Old Man' looked after those horses generations ago! It is family we love very much."
Grant Pritchard-Gordon, the "Old Man", was Prince Khalid Abdullah's racing manager for 17 years until 1999.

Let's see if this one can last a trip.

Lot 163:
Havana Gold's daughter Beautiful Aisling has been snapped up by Najd Stud to continue her racing career in Saudi.
Bred by Chapel Stud Ltd and Qatar Bloodstock Ltd, she is a 23,000gns graduate of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale and the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale where she cost £22,000. She cost her new connections 240,000gns today.
She has now won twice, and finished placed four times in seven career starts.
Saud Al Qahtani said: "She is a good filly, she was beaten by a good filly last time [Magical Sunset], who has already gone on to win at Listed level and I think this filly is a Listed class, too.
"She might be one for the Sprint on Saudi Cup day."
There is a chance that she could confirm that class before she ships to her new country, if her new owners decide to roll the dice – she is entered in the Listed 6f Bosra Sham Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
She was sold by Simon and Ed Crisford and Gainsborough Thoroughbreds.
"She is a beautiful filly, she has done us well throughout the summer, she is very straightforward filly and will do very well in Saudi Arabia. I think they have bought her well, I have a lot of confidence in the filly," said Crisford Snr.

Lot 148:
Hello Deira, by Expert Eye and out of Looks A Million (Kyllachy), is sold by Owen Burrow's Kingwood House Stables to the Qatar-based Wathnan Racing for 180,000gns.
Olly Tate, who was in charge of the bidding process, said: "He goes to Qatar and to trainer Alban Elie De Mieulle. He is a lovely horse, had good form as a two-year-old. He has the distance profile and is a good racehorse, it is a competitive wherever you race and he will do well in Qatar. There is plenty of racing in him, he has a progressive profile and Owen has said he is a straightforward horse."
Hello Deira has run five times – after finishing second on his first two career outings, then fourth at Ascot in a 6f novice, he won his last two starts over 7f and a mile at Redcar and Kempton. He is now BHA rated 86 and is on a career high.
De Mieulle won the 2021-2022 Qatar trainers' championship.

Lot 120:
as expected Rare Middleton was a widely anticipated entry to the sale ring and the bidding opened up at 100,000gns, it concluded with NH agent Tom Malone the successful purchaser at 215,000gns. The gelding was sold by trainer and owner Andy Oliver of Stragrane House Stables.
The gelding has run twice – he finished second first time out at The Curragh in September and then won a 1m2f Leopardstown maiden.
"He is going to Paul Nicholls, and I absolutely loved him!" said Malone of the three-year-old gelding. "All that has happened since his runs is that the form has got stronger and stronger, the horse he beat at Leopardstown won yesterday at The Curragh [Imaginarium], the horse that beat him first time out won the November Handicap [Zoffman], the fifth came out and made 120,000gns this morning [Lot 65], it is proper, proper form.
"I am delighted to get him. Aclaim has not had a hurdler yet, his oldest are three-year-olds. This is lovely horse and Andy always buys this sort of horse."
Malone, Nicholls and consignor Oliver have previous form together – Malone purchased the top-class and subsequent Nicholls-trained Dodging Bullets from Oliver in 2011.
Oliver was delighted with the sale: "He is a lovely horse, he did everything well. He never left the farm prior to his first run, the form of that race is improving all the time. He then went to Leopardstown and did it very nicely, and the form of that race is improving as we speak.
"He is a lovely horse, he has done his job and I am delighted to see him going to a good home. He was entered in the sale as an unraced horse, but we were planning to run him before he came to the sale. He is a big horse so we have had to take our time."

Lot 65:
Fawkner Park (Zoffany), who has run three times and won last time out, makes 120,000gns to Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock purchasing on behalf of the Australian-based trainer Annabel Neasham and syndicator Nathan Bennett of Bennett Racing.
Boman said: "He has had three quick runs in succession, he ran two good races and then won really well at Dundalk and put in a good sectional time. He has progressed in his racing manners, and really has come a long way in a short period of time. I spoke with Joseph [O'Brien] and have a good working relationship with him. He told me that he was a backward horse. Joseph is such a good trainer, I respect his operation and have confidence buying from him.
"We thought he was good buying, he finished close to Rare Middleton [October 15 at Leopardstown] and he will make a lot of money shortly, he should make this horse look cheap!"
Rare Middleton is catalogued as Lot
120.

Sold by trainer Jonathan Portman's Whitcoombe Stables, the gelding was purchased by the trainer for just 8,000gns in last autumn.
