Lot 965: the No Nay Never colt out of Southern Belle is bought by Lynn Lodge Stud for 280,000gns.
He was sold by the Fleming family's Awbeg Stud, James and wife Deidre, and brother Paddy in attendance.
"We bought the mare carrying to Night of Thunder, we liked the idea of Night Of Thunder," said James Fleming when explaining the decision to spend 37,000gns on Southern Belle here at the mares' sale in 2018, adding: "It is a lovely fast page and she was highly rated. She is a lovely looking mare, which is coming through the stock, all her foals have been nice."
The Night Of Thunder went onto be called Janoobi – he has won once as a three-year-old this year and is rated 99. The mare's second foal Lumacho (Camacho) has won three times this year as a two-year-old.
"We try and get a couple of proven stallions into a young mare and No Nay Never was going well when we covered the mare, he has just gone to another level now," said Fleming.
The colt has been busy since getting to Tattersalls, Fleming reported: "He has not been in his box this morning, it is a super result for a small family outfit. It is unbelievable. She is in-foal to Starspangledbanner, and hopefully Janoobi can go on and get black-type next year." (14:51)
Lot 928: Langton Stud enjoys its best-ever result in the sale ring – this Lope De Vega filly out of Poet's Vanity (Poet's Voice) sold for 500,000gns, bought by Juddmonte Farms.
"I am just about getting my breath.... it has been great but it has been quite stressful too," smiled Giles Wates of Langton, who admitted his hands were still shaking after the sale. "She was vetted 13 times, phew, it is one of those days!
"It has been a few years getting here, but we have got there now, we are on our way and the team has done a great job."
Today has been a long-held plan by Langton – the farm purchased Poet's Vanity as a yearling for 150,000gns in 2015 and sent her into training with Andrew Balding. She won the Oh So Sharp Stakes (G3) and was placed in the Nell Gwyn Stakes (G3) and the Sandy Lane Stakes (G2).
"We bought her with Richard Brown, and she went on to be a very successful racehorse," said Wates. "The mare is sweet mare, a lovely mare, a gentle giant. She is in-foal to Wootton Bassett and she will probably then be rested as she will have a late foal.
"This filly's older brother by Kingman has been retained and has gone Andrew Balding. He and this filly are both similar, they are athletic, they have big walks and nothing phases them."
He added: "It is a real compliment that Juddmonte has bought her, and I hope now our farm is going the right way. We made a decision around 10 years ago to sell the stock as foals and it has been a good move."
Langton, near to Blandford Forum in Dorset, was bought 40 years ago by Wates' father Michael, who was at Park Paddocks today with wife Caroline and grand-daughter Tabitha. Back at the filly's stable in Somerville Paddock R, a collection of the "older" generation of breeders, a number of them from the Dorset and Hampshire area, all came to offer their congratulations.
The filly's underbidder Philipp von Stauffenberg threw a late, and long-contemplated, bid of 480,000gns only for Simon Mockridge, Juddmonte's general manager and who was standing on the stairs, to respond quickly with the winning price of 500,000gns, a figure that was too high Stauffenberg.
After the pair had shaken hands outside the ring, Mockridge said: "I knew she was very, very popular, everyone liked her. She is a great athlete, a great walker, and has been well-produced by Langton. We thought we'd have to be strong on her, but for us she is an outcross pedigree for the longer term. She is a beautiful filly, hopefully she can be a race filly now and then come back home.
"It is a beautiful pedigree, and it is easy to see why we liked her. She has depth and strength and is out of a Group winner. She has everything and showed well throughout. "
Poet's Vanity, bred by Panda Bloodstock & Trickledown Stud, is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Lesson In Humility, the dam of the Norfolk Stakes (G2) runner-up Coach House, the Group 3 winner and Irish Derby (G1) and Melbourne Cup (G1) runner-up Tiger Moth, and the Group 3 second Butterscotch.
Langton also sold Lot 929, a filly by Night Of Thunder, for 185,000gns to JC Bloodstock. The pinhooking team has previous history with the family having bought the filly's 2017 half-brother by Kingman for 135,000gns here as a foal, selling him the following year in Book 1 to MV Magnier for 1,050,000gns.
Named Cormorant, the colt went on to win the Derrinstown Derby Trial (G2) and finish fourth in the Dante Stakes and the Kilternan Stakes (G3). (14:05)
Lot 911: dam Opal Tiara (Thousand Words) was bred by Mcb Ltd & Mrs G Hedley, owned in training by The Filly Folly & Sweet Partnership, and for a time by Qatar Racing. She was trained by Mick Channon to win six races, including two Group 2 races, and she also finished in Group race placings on multiple occasions.
Her second foal, who was bred by the Filly Folly & Sweet P’Ship/Ldv Syndicate, was sold today by Norman Court Stud for 150,000gns, bought by Yeomanstown Stud.
The mare's first foal named Flame Queen, a 2020 daughter of Oasis Dream, has been retained, is in training with Mick Channon and has yet to run.
Opal Tiara was covered by Study Of Man this spring. (12:38)
Lot 904: the New Bay colt from Cheveley Park Stud, the first foal out of two-time winner and Listed-placed Ice Sprite (Zoffany) makes 140,000gns.
She is a daughter of the Galtres Stakes (L) and Princess Royal Stakes (L) winner Queen Of Ice (Selkirk). The long-developed Cheveley Park Stud family also enjoyed a good day yesterday – Lot 736, a son of Twilight Sun and out of Ice Gala, a half-sister to Queen Of Ice, sold for 68,000gns.
Ice Sprite was covered this spring by Ulysses. (12:20)
Lot 894: Willie Browne and Mark Dwyer signing as Oaks Farm Stables go to 120,000gns for the Ringfort Stud-bred New Bay colt out of the winning Galileo mare My Wish.
She is dam of three winners from three runners and is a daughter of the Group 1 Pix de l'Opera and Coronation Stakes-placed Giant's Causeway mare Mona Lisa, who was bred by Meon Valley Stud from the farm's leading pedigree of Reprocolour, Opera House and Kayf Tara.
Mona Lisa was bought by John Magnier for 1,250,000gns as a Book 1 yearling in 2003. My Wish was sold as a yearling and was bought as a seven-year-old in 2018 by Howson & Houldsworth for €46,000. (12:04)
Lot 875: the half-brother to stallion Far Above, winner of the Group 3 Palace House Stakes, makes 115,000gns, the Dark Angel colt sold by Peter Nolan Bloodstock for Linden Bloodstock Ltd.
Far Above is the only runner so far for the mare Dorraar (Shamardal) and the full-brother to this foal made 115,000gns at this sale last year bought by Joe Foley.
Third dam is Bahr, winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes 9G2)m the Musidora Stakes (G3) and placed a runner-up in the Epsom Oaks (G1) and third placed in the Irish Oaks (G1) and the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (G1)
Her daughter Nahrain was a winner of the Prix de l'Opera (G1) and the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (G1) and the dam of Benbatl, a three-time Group 1 winner and the European champion older miler of 2019.
Bahr is also grand-dam of Go Bears Go, winner of the Railway Stakes (G2), the Phoenix Sprint Stakes (G3), and second in Norfolk Stakes (G2), the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2), the Hackwood Stakes (G3) and third placed in Phoenix Stakes (G1).
Dorraar was bought by Mohamed Abdul Malik from Darley in 2015 for €15,000. (11:28)
Lot 858: the first today to six-figures is a daughter of the Lanwades stallion Sea The Moon, sold by Salcey Forest Stud. She is out of the Singspiel mare Incroyable, who was placed in the Listed Prix Solitude and is the dam of four winners, including two French Listed performers.
The chestnut filly was bought for 120,000gns by Abbeylands Farm. (10:46)
The award for the FBA Bloodstock Agent of the Year... was given this morning to Richard Brown in recognition of his purchase of this year's Epsom Derby winner Desert Crown at the Tattersalls October Book 2 Sale in 2020, the Nathaniel colt bought on behalf of client Saeed Suhail for 280,000gns, Brown signing under the Blandford Bloodstock banner.
The winning agent received a bottle of Krug this morning in an award ceremony in the Tattersalls sale ring with the prize handed over by Geoffrey Howson, the enthusiastic organiser of this award. Photos were taken from the top of the stairs from Brown's usual bidding spot.
Brown was winning the prize for an unprecedented two years in succession, but to some extent the victory had been set in the stars in 2021.
Howson said: "When he was given the award in 2021, Richard told me that he was determined to win the again in 2022. I replied that the only way he could receive the award two years running was if he has bought the winner of the Derby!
"Immediately after Desert Crown won the Classic, Richard sent me a text saying, 'I told you I wanted another bottle of Krug!'"
Howson continued: "The prize is hugely deserved and Richard has continued to impress me with his continued professionalism and enthusiastic work ethic. He is in the mould of his mentor Joss Collins. I have told Richard that the only way he can win again in 2023 is if has bought the winner of the Triple Crown!"
Brown was all smiles on a sunny morning at Park Paddocks, and was keen to ensure that the efforts of all members of the Blandford team were recognised.
"Everyone works really hard, it is a huge team effort and we have all had a great year at Blandford," said Brown.
Recalling the purchase of the colt in 2020, he said: "Nathaniel is a thoroughly proven stallion and sire of the brilliant Enable, though at the time was probably short of a top colt.
"Desert Crown was genuinely a gorgeous yearling, I think I spoke to sales day live after buying him and you will remember that I was extremely enthusiastic about the horse.
"He is just that rare physical that you have got to chase. Saeed Suhail is brave when I find one that I really want and I am really lucky that he will go with me if I do find one.
"I am very fortunate to now have clients who back my opinion – I have spent plenty of time in the sale ring being unable to buy what I want! Now I am in the fortunate position that, if I do find what I want, I have a live chance of buying. It gives you a much better chance of buying a good one when you can buy what you like."
Brown updated with the latest news on the Derby winner, who has not run again since his Epsom victory.
"He picked up a very minor injury, it put him out for long enough that it would have been a rush to get him back to the Arc and that was the only race that was left for him," reported Brown. "Being by Nathaniel he should only get better with age so the decision was made to put him away.
"He spent six weeks out in the paddocks at Darley and he went back to Sir Michael's two weeks ago. I have not seen him yet but the guys say he looks absolutely amazing. He was out in the day, but was kept exercising on the walker so he did not put on too much weight and apparently he looks terrific. He will have a long steady prep from now on and we will be looking at all those top middle-distance races next year.
"The prognosis is excellent, and hopefully he can come out and show us what he can do, I think he is still a very untapped talent."
Of the horse's ability, Brown recalled a conversation had with jockey Richard Kingscote at Stoute's Freemason Lodge Stables after the Derby weekend.
"We went to Michael's on the Monday after the Derby, I was still nursing a large hangover," he laughed. "I was chatting to Richard Kingscote and he said that he got to the front far too soon, but he just couldn't believe how easily he did it.
"He won his maiden by 5l, hosed up in the Dante, hosed up in the Derby, he has won every race very easily but he will be tested next year as an older horse."
We all look forward to seeing Desert Crown back on the racecourse in 2023.
Bred by Strawberry Fields Stud, his dam Desert Berry is to be offered next week – she is Lot 1891 and offered in Tuesday's Sceptre Session. (10:22)

Lot 793: the Havana Grey half-brother to the Group 1 sprinter Dragon Symbol, who was demoted from first place in the Commonwealth Cup (G1) in 2021, makes 250,000gns. The February-born colt, bred and sold by Whitsbury Manor Stud, was bought by Stauffenberg Bloodstock Services, Philipp von Stauffenberg bidding from the doorway.
"He is a fine looking horse, he is a brother to a horse who should be a Group 1 winner, I just loved him, he was the one I wanted today, that is why I bought him!" smiled Stauffenberg. "I liked Havana Grey's first crop, I did not buy one from that crop, but the stallion has proved that he is capable of producing a good horse, hopefully he will go on now."
It is a seventh top-price achieved by Whitsbury at Tattersalls, and manager Ed Harper was pretty chuffed with the sale.
"It just sounds so boring with these nice ones, they don't just pop out of nowhere, he has been nice all the way along," he reported. "He is probably a bigger model to Dragon Symbol, but Arcamist just keeps throwing lovely stock. It is a family we have done really well with and we have had for a long time – Dad bought the second dam Good Enough in the US around 25 years ago. She was the most expensive mare he'd bought ever at that time – it was around $250,000 and was a lot of money for us."
Harper explained the reasoning behind the decision to send the mare to Havana Grey, who had not had runners when she was covered by the son of Havana Gold
"We took the gamble to send a nice mare to Havana Grey in his third crop, but if we don't believe in our stallions who else is going to? We got to lead the charge!"
Ad he admits to have enjoyed a certain amount of satisfaction on the farm this summer: "Seeing all these Havana Greys at home has made strolling around the fields a very pleasant experience – to see the mares in-foal to Havana Grey and foals by him it makes a Sunday afternoon walk pretty special."
Of this week's sale ring response to the latest recruit to the Whitsbury Manor stallion roster, Sergei Prokofiev, Harper smiled: "We have been blown away by the response to Sergei... it has been even quite amusing hearing the auctioneers trying to get their mouths around the name!
"People have seen what an even bunch they are, they are big strong horses with a walk, real sales horses. Hopefully, they will run as good as they look."
When asked if breeders have any chance of getting a late-booked nomination to either stallion, Harper smiled: "We could see what we could do!" (20:09)
Lot 789: John Cullinan was standing on the back stairs when bidding for the colt by Ghaiyyath ex School Run sold by Kellsgrange Stud, and he had to go 240,000gns to secure the "one that he wanted". He signed under the J R Bloodstock banner.
"I saw the horse yesterday and loved him,"said Cullinam. "We were keen to buy a Ghaiyyath, he is one of the stallions who has been on our mind as a first-crop sire. He looks to have very good stock, he was a brilliant racehorse and was the highest-rated racehorse in the world for a time and is by a sire of sires.
"This is a lovely individual. He vetted very well, and we were at full stretch at that price, but nice horses are always hard to come by, and have to pay a bit more for the ones you want.
"We will try and keep him safe and keep him out of trouble and come back to one of the premier sales back here, but we will worry about that in a few months' time."
Of the pressure of buying top quality foals, he said: "You are up against the smartest people in the world at this job. There are not many jobs that you can be doing that when you get out of bed in the morning you are taking on the best in the world.
"The first thing is to find the horses and the second is to buy them. That is a big throw for us, the biggest we have ever given for a foal. We have a small list today and a small list tomorrow and we thought we'd better get stuck into today!"
The colt was bred by Ballyreddin Stud & Dcl out of School Run (Invincible Spirit), the dam of Harrow, who finished third in the Somerville Tattersalls Stakes (G3). Third dam Sahara Star, winner of the Molecomb Stakes (G3), is dam of the Flying Childers Stakes (G2) winner Land Of Dreams and grand-dam of the champion two and three-year-old Dream Ahead and ancestress of the two-time Group 1 winner Fairyland and the Group 1-placed Princess Noor. (19:45)
Lot 779: the only lot offered this week by the Haras d'Etreham sire Persian King (Kingman) makes 130,000gns. He was sold by Newsells Park on behalf of breeder Al Shahania Stud and was bought by Fairway Partners.
"I have seen a few by Persian King and they are nice horses, he was a good racehorse and this mare was good too, so we hope for the best," said purchaser Benjamin Avenel. "He has been bought for a syndicate with Charles Briere of Fairway Consignment. We hope he is a Book 1 horse. "
The colt is out of Qabala (Scat Daddy), winner of the Nell Gwyn Stakes (G3), and who finished third in the 1,000 Guineas and fourth in the Falmouth Stakes (G1). She is a grand-daughter of Flute, winner of the Alabama Stakes (G1) and a runner-up in the Beldame Stakes (G1) and the Santa Anita Oaks (G1).
Her first foal by Kingman made 300,000gns at the October Book 1 Yearling Sale, purchased by Sumbe.
Persian King was an eight-time winner, six times at Group level with three of those victories at the highest level – the Prix du Moulin, the Prix d'Ispahan and the Poule d'Essai des Poulains. He was also placed three times in Group 1 races in France in the Prix du Jockey-Club, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and in the Prix Jacques Les Marois. (19:11)
Lot 763: gives a good result in the ring for Norelands Stud – this colt out of Moorside (Champs Elysees) is bought by Joe Foley as a racing prospect for Clipper Logistics for 150,000gns.
"Moreside was a very good racemare and we bought her off Juddmonte and I have always been a fan of New Bay and we got in at the right time!"said Harry McCalmont, adding: "He is going to be very expensive now. She may have to go back to him, but she is in-foal Australia now.
"Her first foal by Invincible Spirit is in Hong Kong and the second, also by Invincible Spirit, is with Andrew Balding and they think a lot of him – so it is onwards and upwards!"
Foley said: "We were very keen to buy him obviously, he is by an exciting and emerging sire, we've have a very nice two-year-old by him who won well for Karl Burke, named Overrule.
"He is a very interestingly bred colt, 4x3 to Zaizafon and 4x3 to Gone West so he has got a lot of speed. The mother is by Champs Elysees and she stayed, but he has a lot of speed in his make up and physically he looked a fast horse. He is beautifully active colt, a great attitude, one we focused on today and very pleased to get him.
Of the mare's previous foals, Foley said: "The first Invincible Spirit was bought by Mick Kinane for Hong Kong and they tell me he is really highly regarded, and David Bowe bought the foal last year for for Jeff Smith for 100,000gns and he was nice also . The mare's first two foals look very promising for their two owners so we were keen and she could be an interesting mare."
The mare's third dam Zaizafon was a Group 3 winner and Group 2 third and was the dam of the champion two and three-year-old Zafonic, the Grou p3 winner and Group 1 placed Zamindar, and is ancestress of the Group 1 winners and performers Announce, Mexican Gold, Irish Rookie and Cougar Mountain.
Mooreside was bought by Norelands from Juddmonte with BBA Ireland for 90,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2017. (18:45)
Lot 749: this colt by new sire Kameko makes 90,000gns and becomes the most expensive sold by the young Tweenhills Stud sire so far. The colt was bought by Aughamore Stud and Howson & Houldsworth Bloodstock, sold by Tweenhills Stud on behalf of breeders Skymarc Farm & Qatar Bloodstock Limited.
The colt is out of the Invincible Spirit mare Beach Belle, the dam of Surf Dancer (Lope De Vega), a Group 2 winner in Australia, and a half-sister to this year's Group 1-winning two-year-old Dubai Mile (Roaring Lion), who won the Criterium de Saint-Cloud in October. The siblings are out of the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes runner-up Beach Bunny (High Chaparral).
Purchaser Michael Gleeson of Aughamore said: "We thought he was going to be a stand-out, and we thought he was going to be an upper end price.
"Kameko is a Guineas winner and that is always quite appealing, and with his mare's pedigree, too. We hope to get him back here next year for Book 1 and we look forward next re-offering him next year." (18:05)
Lot 736: achieves the best price given for a Twilight Son colt foal at Tattersalls since 2019, this Cheveley Park-bred and sold colt out of Invincible Spirit mare Ice Gala makes 68,000gns, and is bought by Tally-Ho Stud.
As a racehorse, Ice Gala won twice and was also placed third in the Listed Radley Stakes. She is a half-sister to five winners, including Queen Of Ice, winner of the Galtres Stakes (L). They are out of the Polar Falcon mare Ice Palace.
One of the best by the stallion, a son of Kyllachy, is Twilight Calls, who is also out of an Invincible Spirit mare (Zawiyah) and was runner-up in this year's Group 1 King's Stand Stakes and the Temple Stakes (G2). (17:28)
Lot 705: one of the expected stars of today did not disappoint – the filly by Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) sold by Ringfort Stud makes 130,000gns to Tally-Ho Stud. She is out of Shenoya (Zoffany), a winner at two and placed 12 times, including in the Prix des Sablonnets (L). She is a half-sister to the Prix de Sandringham (G2) third-placed Like A Charm.
"We bought the mare privately," reported breeder Derek Veitch. "This filly has always been a good walker and is a lovely sort. We thought Ghaiyyath would would suit the mare physically – he is a big scopey stallion and would suit a smallish mare. We are delighted with that price."
The mare is not in-foal – after producing this filly, Shenoya developed some issues necessitating surgery and the removal of an ovary.
Veitch updated: "She is obviously not in-foal, is fine now and will be ok to be covered next spring." (16:38)
Lot 685: Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock go again and spend another six-figure sum, this time 110,000gns on the Ghaiyyath colt from Yellowford Farm.
The bay colt is out of the Sea The Stars mare Stella d'Italia, who failed to win but boasts a fine pedigree – she is out of the Firth Of Clyde Stakes (G3) runner-up Ragsah (Shamardal), dam of Richmond Avenue, who finished second in the Listed Prix de la Cochere and third in the Goldikova Stakes (G2).
Stella D'Italia's grand-dam is the Group 2 winner and the Group 1-placed Colorado Dancer, the dam of Dubai Millennium. (16:01)
Lot 667: "I don't usually have anything to say!" laughed John McEnery of Rossenarra Stud after selling his Mehmas colt out of Heavenly River for 240,000gns.
He does today after such a good sale and from a cheaply bought mare – Heavenly River by Stormy River was purchased here at the December Mares Sale for just 5,000gns in 2015.
McEnery recalled: "I had to go home to Ireland and left my nephew Billy to look at a few pedigrees and he picked her up. She was a maiden mare and we bought her out of Karl Burke's yard.
"We have always liked the foals by Mehmas and we'd had a bit of luck with Dark Angel. I thought the first year he was too expensive at €12,500, and then I got caught for €25,000 last year!"
McEnery used the Tally-Ho Stud sire in 2017 on his mare to produce her now four-year-old daughter, the US-based Quattroelle, who is owned by regular Tattersalls customer Red Baron's Barn LLC and Rancho Temescal LLC.
She runs today in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes at Del Mar, but McEnery was not tempted to wait to sell his colt in the hope of a pedigree update.
"I hope she wins," he said, adding with a smile: "It will give the next man a bit of luck, too."
Heavenly River is a half-sister to the Listed winner Katie's Diamond, the dam of Dramatised, this year's winner of the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and recent runner-up in Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1),
"I was really hoping in the last half-furlong that Dramatised was getting there at Keeneland," said McEnery, who covered Heavenly River with Supremacy this spring.
Purchaser Ross Doyle: “As always it’s the physical and it’s a huge bonus that he’s by Mehmas. He’s from a very good nursery in Rossenarra and is closely related to a very good filly. I thought he was an absolute standout.
“He had a lot of strength for his age; he’s naturally very strong with a good deep girth and he was a real pro for every show. That’s his dad’s influence coming through. He might come back [for resale] but I’d say long-term they’ll race him.
“Mehmas has obviously been very lucky for lots of people including ourselves. We bought Persian Force last year for Amo Racing. We’ve had massive pleasure out of Mehmas and so have so many people, going right back to John Cullinan and Roger Marley in his breeze-up days, then at Richard Hannon’s yard, and all the staff there were mad about him.
"They used to say to me that he’d go the races, come home, go for a pick of grass and put on weight. Then he ended up at Tally-Ho, which is one of the best studs in the world, and they’ve done a wonderful job with him.”
It has been a good day for McEnery – his following lot, a colt by Dark Angel out of the winner-producing Charlotte Rua (Redback), was bought by Yeomanstown Stud for 85,000gns.
The breeder said: "He is a fair colt, he got a little overshadowed by the Mehmas as there was so much interest in him. There is plenty more to come from his dam."
Charlotte Rua's winner is Nahaarr who has won six times and finished second in the Duke Of York Stakes (G2) and the Cathedral Stakes (L). (15:47)
Lot 648: "The stallion has worked out really well for us – we paid €20,000 for the nomination," said consignor David Redvers of Tweenhills Stud after the colt by New Bay and out of Strawberry Martini sold for 100,000gns to Yeomanstown Stud.
Redvers continued: "He has a good outlook and action and captured the attention of some big buyers, it is a nice result."
Of the decision to use the Ballylinch Stud-based stallion New Bay on the Listed-winning mare, Redvers added: "Strawberry Martini is quite a stout Mount Nelson mare and New Bay gives his progeny a bit of 'energy', which I like.
"She has now had some very good foals – we sold her Masar for 110,000gns at October Book 2 this year to Shadwell, and then this horse has made 100,000gns. She is in the sale next week [Lot 1480] – she is owned by a syndicate of friends, and we will need to have a chat and make a decision as to whether we keep her or sell her."
Strawberry Martini is in-foal to Kameko on a May 10th covering. She is a half-sister to the Listed winner Tony Curtis, and from the family of the Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Strawberry Daiquiri. She has had three runners and her two-year-old of this year Orange Martini (Roaring Lion) finished second at Haydock in September on her third career start. (14:47)
Lot 607: Chasemore Farm's vet Pat Sells signs under the farm's banner for the Sergei Prokofiev colt out of Avengers Queen.
The colt, bred and sold by Whitsbury Manor Stud, cost his new owner 95,000gns. He is the first foal out of the Brazen Beau mare who won twice at two, her victories including the Premio Vittorio Crespi (L).
She is a half-sister the Karl Burke-trained El Caballo (Havana Gold), winner of this year's Sandy Lane Stakes (G2) and the Listed Spring Cup. Her dam Showstoppa (Showcasing), the winner of four races, was also bred by Whitsbury and is a half-sister to the Mill Reef Stakes (G2) winner Temple Meads (Avonbridge). (14:19)
Lot 604: the first 100,000gns lot at this year's December Foal Sale and a first-ever six-figure sale with a home-owned horse consigned by Natton House Stud.
"We bought the mare as a two-year-old from Godolphin for 22,000gns here at the February Sale," recounted Chris Dudfield of Natton House. "She was tiny, only about 14.3hh, but she has grown well since and her first two Showcasings have been beautiful foals.
"Last year's foal made 72,000gns, this horse was even nicer and some of the lads said he is flawless, he is just a beautiful, beautiful horse.
"She has got an amazing pedigree – there are ten Group 1 winners on the age and three champions – why wouldn't you want to own her? She is back in-foal to Showcasing, we have breeding rights in him and we specifically bought her to go to him.
"It is a fantastic result for us. We are thrilled and the girls have worked so hard."
The colt's dam Parliament House (Slade Power) is a daughter of the champion Embassy and a grand-daughter of the champion Pass The Peace.
Her first foal was pinhooked for the 72,000gns investment by Hillwood Stud and was bought as a yearling in Book 2 by Blandford Bloodstock for 115,000gns.
Today's buyer is Yeomanstown Stud. (13:31)
Lot 594: another by Earthlight pulls in the crowds – and pinhook buyer Redpender Stud spends 78,000gns to take the colt, who was bred by Derek Icetown and sold by Keith Harte, back home to Ireland.
The colt's dam Dettoria, by Declaration Of War, is dam of one winner from one runner – Selenaia, who was a Eclipse & Madaket Stables purchase for 85,000gns at the 2021 October Book 2 sale, a winner in September in the US. (12:58)
Lot 590: another good sale for Yvonne Jacques Carisbrooke Stud – the farm sells its Earthlight colt out of Lynique (Dylan Thomas) for 72,000gns, Jamie Railton Sales Agency the colt's buyer.
The mare was bought as a yearling by Carisbrooke and is a full-sister to Tannery, winner of the EP Taylor Stakes (G1), the Sheepshead Bay Stakes (G2) and the Kilboy Estate Stakes (G3), as well as a three-time Listed race winner. Tannery was also a runner-up in the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (G1) and the Garden City Stakes (G1).
Second dam, the unraced Danse Grecque, was bought from Ballymacoll Stud by Cormac McCormack for Grange Stud in 2007.
She is a daughter of Greektown, the dam of the Group 1 winner Gamut, the Group 2 winner Multicoloured and the Listed winner Athens Belle, and grand-dam of the black-type winners Magnolia Springs, Saddlers' Rock, Tarfasha, Allexina and the two-time Derby placed Galileo Rock. (12:53)
Lot 559 and Lot 561: are all about fathers and their sons.
Successive lots by Havana Grey and his sire Havana Gold catch the buyers' eyes – Lot 559, a roan filly by Havana Grey, who had such a talking year on the track this summer, is bought by Townley Hall Bloodstock for 65,000gns, while Lot 561 by Havana Gold makes 73,000gns. He is a Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock purchase and is the fourth lot bought by the father and son bloodstock buying team this week so far.
The Havana Grey filly is a half-sister to three winners, including Lyrical Lady, who has finished fourth at Listed level as a three-year-old this season, and Fairy Cakes who has won since the catalogue was published. Dam Faery Song is a half-sister to the dam of the Group 2 Prix du Calvados winner Fev Rover, and third dam Nashmeel was a Group 2 winner in France and Group 1-placed in the Prix Jacques Le Marois and Grade 1-placed in the Yellow Ribbon Invitational and the Matriarch Stakes.
Faery Song was a 3,000gns purchase by today's consignor Trinity Park Stud at the December Mares Sale in 2015.
The colt by Havana Gold, sold by Byerley Stud, is a half-brother to the Listed winner Legionario, and a full-brother to the Listed placed Picota. Second dam is Interval, winner of the Prix Maurice de Gheest (G2) and third in the 1,000 Guineas (G1). (12:41)
Lot 534: new foal sire Mohaather provided the joint top lot on Day 1 (Lot 486, sold for 80,000gns), and this April-born colt by the Shadwell sire was also popular – Manister House Stud had to go to 52,000gns for a successful purchase. The is colt out of the five-time winning Diktat mare Terentia, the dam of a full-house of four winners from four runners.
Crossing The Line, her filly by Cape Cross, has won six times and has also finished second at Listed level in the Queen Charlotte Stakes.
Second dam is the Oh So Sharp Stakes (L) winner Agrippina (Timeless Times), dam of six winners including Cartimandua, a Listed winner of the Kilvington Stakes (L) and placed third in the Ballyogan Stakes (G3).
Barton Stud was the successful consignor. (11:22)
Lot 529: Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock go to 85,000gns for the Sea The Moon colt sold by Jamie Railton (Agent), bred by Brook Stud & Lifecycle Bloodstock Ltd.
Mirror City, a daughter of Street Cry, was a winner at two for Charlie Appleby and was bought by Dwayne Woods from the Godolphin draft at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2016 for 170,000gns.
She has produced two winners from two runners, all her foals of racing age. Star Image, her foal of 2018 by Sea The Stars, picked up black-type when third in Loughbrown Stakes (G3) at The Curragh in October, following up with a fourth place in the Finale Stakes (L) at Naas in November. She is BHA rated 99.
Mirror City's 2021 filly by Too Darn Hot was purchased by Jamie McCalmont at October Book 2 yearling sale for 120,000gns.
The colt's third dam is one of the stand out names in the stud book, no less than the dual champion Miesque, who was a 12-time winner, a Classic winner and is the dam and ancestress of hordes of Group 1 and black-type winners. (11:10)
Lot 513: the first of 13 lots by Sergei Prokofiev due in the ring today makes 82,000gns, the sire's progeny maintaining the popularity set on Day 1.
This chap was sold by Kirtlington Stud and is out of Squash (Pastoral Pursuits), who finished second in the Nell Gwyn Stakes (G3) and the Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes (L). The foal was bred Kirtlington Stud & Mrs Mary Taylor, who also bred Squash.
It has been a long developed family by Taylor, who bred grand-dam Super Midge, great-grand-dam Sabina, and also the fourth dam High Savannah.
Squash has had two winners from two runners and two foals of racing age. Her 2021 colt by Advertise was a 135,000gns Tattersalls December Foal last year and developed into a 500,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling, bought by Richard Knight. He was the top-priced yearling from the sire's first crop. (10:41)

Lot 486: "He looks a weapon," said purchaser Joe Foley.
"He's a dinger!" said consignor Dwayne Woods.
It pretty safe to say that both parties on both sides of the transaction for this colt by the Showcasing first-crop sire Mohaather liked him... a lot.
Foley had to go to 80,000gns to buy the April colt out of the Mayson mare Lady Freya and he said: "He is a real Showcasing, he is a really good example. He is a lovely colt and the mother was good, she was rated 90 and was useful. We bought a Ribchester filly from the same family here in Book 3 [Lot 1655].
"I underbid Mohaather as yearling – he was a really high-class racehorse and we were very keen to buy one by him. This one just looks a proper Showcasing type of horse."
Of future plans, Foley added: "He looks like a racehorse and we will try and make him a racehorse – when he was getting to 40-50,000gns he started to get into racing money!"
Foley does, of course, stand Soldier's Call, the son of Showcasing, at Ballyhane Stud. He had first yearlings this year.
Woods of Brook Stud was delighted with the sale of his colt, and he said: "He was bought by superlative judges, and he is a horse who will go forward and make up into a proper yearling."
Of the decision in 2021 to use Mohaather on the four-time winner Lady Freya, who is a half-sister to Party Boss and Countrywide Flame, Woods outlined: "He was a new sire, he is an absolutely stunning horse and he was very well priced." (19:12)
Lot 470: today's good vibes for Sergei Prokofiev continue and Charles Shanahan, signing under the Glenvale banner, has to go to 70,000gns to secure this colt offered by Selwood Bloodstock, bred by Selwood with Seascape Bloodstock.
"The sire seems to be getting gorgeous looking horses from what we have seen," said Shanahan. "He was obviously in training at Ballydoyle and it was thought he had an awful lot of potential. From his stock that we have seen, we thought it would be great to get one looking like the one that we have bought.
"We are thrilled to get one that looks like he does – he is a great mover, has loads of scope, loads of strength, everything you look for in a foal that you want to sell on as a yearling. He was definitely the one we wanted to buy today."
Shanahan added: "I so impressed with his stock, Flash [Conroy] collected one earlier today so we are very keen on the sire and let's hope for everyone he can kick on over the next two years. This colt goes back to Ireland and Glenvale."
The March-born colt is out of Music Lesson (Dutch Art), who was placed six times at two and three. She has had one runner who is a winner – Dajarus, a son of Holy Roman Emperor who won as a two-year-old last year.
She is a half-sister to three stakes placed runners and was covered this spring by Oasis Dream. (18:42)
Lot 446: the first in the ring this week by Darley's young Shamardal sire Earthlight fetches 65,000gns. The colt was sold by Barton Stud on behalf of breeder Ladyswood Stud and was purcahsed by Yeomanstown Stud.
"He is a cracking colt, bred at Ladyswood, which is a lovely farm and they are great people, we love selling for them," said Tom Blain of Barton Stud. "The colt came here and performed well and we got a good price, I hope Yeomanstown does well with him. I have seen him throughout the year, he has been with us for five or six weeks and has been very straightforward and very professional. He is just really nice type, and I like the stock that I have seen by Earthlight."
The colt's dam Some Spirit (Invincible Spirit), who was runner-up in the Fairy Bridge Stakes (G3) and is an own-sister to One Spirit, winner of the Whitehead Memorial Stakes (L) and placed in three Group races, has had a new winner this year – her three-year-old of 2022 named Stirling (Frankel) was successful in October.
The Wiltshire-based Ladyswood Farm is owned by Alex Frost, who is CEO of the UK Tote Group and this spring the breeder covered Some Spirit with Ardad.
The family boasts such good horses as Diktat, the champion sprinter of 1999, and the fourth dam on the page is Park Appeal, the champion two-year-old filly in England and Ireland of 1984 and dam of the influential sire Cape Cross and grand-dam of Iffraaj. (17:53)
Lot 422: Ringfort Stud sells this colt by Arizona to MC Bloodstock for 45,000gns. The colt is a half-brother to five winners from seven runners, and seven foals of racing age, three of whom have been BHA rated over 80.
Dam Becuille (Redback) is a half-sister to Bushranger, the champion two-year-old in England and France of 2008 and winner of the Middle Park Stakes (G1), the Prix Morny (G1), the Anglesey Stakes (G3) and placed second in the Windsor Castle Stakes and third in the National Stakes (G1).
There were three lots by the Castle Hyde Stud-based sire catalogued in this week's sale, Lot 452 the third due through the ring later today. (17:16)
Lot 397 and Lot 398: Fran Woods of Abbeylands Farm goes to 44,000gns for this Saxon Warrior colt (Lot 397), the third foal out of Fulminate (Charm Spirit), sold by Tweenhills Stud.
Fulminate was a winner at two, but her two immediate female ancestors were both Group 1 winners – her dam Quiff (Sadler's Wells) won the Yorkshire Oaks (G1) and was runner-up in the St Leger, and her grand-dam Wince, won the 1,000 Guineas (G1) and the Fred Darling Stakes (G3).
"He is a nice sort, and will be for resale," reported Woods. "He has a great walk and is by a sire who looks as though he is going the right way."
It is a long-developed Juddmonte family and Fulminate was bought at the Tattersalls July Horses In Training Sale 2019 by Tweenhills Farm & Stud for 30,000gns.
The stud also sold Lot 398 for 45,000gns – a colt by Tweenhills' new sire Kameko, the winner of the 2,000 Guineas and the Futurity Stakes and by Kitten's Joy.
Bred by David Redvers Bloodstock, the colt is out of The Chemist (Dutch Art), who was bought at the December Sale 2020 for 42,000gns from Cheveley Park Stud. Her first foal by Unfortunately has run twice and finished fourth of ten at Wolverhampton on November 12.
Lynn Lodge Stud was the successful purchaser of the Kameko colt. (16:04)
Lot 346: "She is by Bated Breath and I am breathless," laughed breeder Yvonnes Jacques after selling this filly by the sire for 80,000gns to Blandford Bloodstock and Wardley Bloodstock.
The filly is the second foal out of the Shamardal mare Naqaawa, the winner of one race and placed in the John Musker Stakes (L). She is a half-sister to six winners, including the Listed winner Shaqira (Redoute's Choice). She was bred by Shadwell and bought by Jacques and Brian Grassick Bloodstock for 180,000gns at the Tattersalls December Males Sale 2018.
When asked to expand on her reasons for selecting the Juddmonte sire Bated Breath for the mare, Jacques, who was with advisor Cathy Grassick, said: "The Shamardal / Danehill cross has worked really well, Hello Youmzain is bred on a similar cross. It was important to give the mare a solid start with a proven horse. She went to Showcasing first time and that yearling is with Andy Oliver."
"She is a beautiful mare," added Jacques. "I would love to keep all my stock, but it is not practical, we are trying all the time to make all the right decisions. We try and sell a few foals. The mare is not in-foal, but is going to Dark Angel this spring."
Buyer Tom Goff, who was standing in the bidders, said: "She has been bought for stud owner Rupert Gregson-Williams, who has a lovely farm in Surrey, an establishing and growing farm. She is a beautiful filly from a very good farm and with a lovely back pedigree. She has loads of class and quality, a good body and good movement. She could race or could come back here next year, we will see how she progresses through the year." (14:44)
Lot 336: the first to 50,000gns is a son of Iffraaj out of the winning Piccolo mare La Napoule and sells for 55,000gns.
She is the dam of four winners from four runners – her two-year-old of this year Tyndrum Gold (Muhaarar), an October Book 3 graduate, was a Kempton winner on his debut at the beginning of the month for trainer Roger Varian.
This foal is the most expensive progeny sale for the mare so far. He was sold by Baroda Stud on the behalf of breeder Copgrove Hall Stud and the farm manager Brian O'Rourke said: "He is a lovely foal, always been a good sort and homebred by the farm. The mare is doing well and her latest winner has obviously helped – he looks a smart sort. We are very happy with that price."
The mare, who is a daughter of Peggy Spencer, dam of the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner La Cucaracha (Piccolo), who was also a two-time Group 3 winner, is in-foal to Ardad. She was bred by the late Guy Reed.
The successful buyer Roger Marley said: “He’s been bought for a pinhooking syndicate so he’ll come back for resale. I thought he was a nice, square colt and the dam is proven. I thought he was a no-brainer. We’ll be trying again for the rest of this week so we’ll see how we get on.” (14:14)
Lot 297 and Lot 303: two more foals by Sergei Prokofiev prove attractive to buyers – Lot 297, out of the winning Cape Cross mare Cape Liberty and bred by Gregory Saveall-Green, is bought by Whitsbury from Barton Stud for 30,000gns, Ed Harper in the ring and in charge of bidding.
He is Cape Liberty's second foal – her first foal, Liberty Lane (Teofilo), won by 5l on his career debut at Nottingham at the beginning of October and looks a very promising type.
After the successful Nottingham debut, jockey Clifford Lee said to the Racing Post: "That felt very good, Liberty Lane travelled well throughout and relished the ease in the ground. He's a lovely horse, tries hard and had been working really well at home. He's a big colt but he's so chilled out and relaxes really nicely."
Bred and owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, the promising colt holds entries in next year's Irish 2,000 Guineas and Irish Derby.
Cape Liberty is a half-sister to two international stakes winners – Abby Hatcher (Acclamation), winner of the Grade 3 Chicago Stakes, and Purciaretta (Cotai Glory), a Listed winner in Italy. It is the extended family of the champion Poet's Word and the Group 1-placed juvenile Beckford.
She was bought not in-foal by Saveall-Green for just 1,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sale in 2020.
Four lots later Amanda Skiffington goes to 36,000gns for the Fittocks Stud-consigned colt out of the winning mare Liberisque (Equiano), a daughter of the Finale Stakes (L) winner Jane Austen. The colt was bred by Andrew Bengough & Partners. (13:23)
Lot 291: a morning for new foal sires – Glenvale Stud goes to 40,000gns for the Sergei Prokofiev colt sold by W. H. R. John & Partners. The April-born foal is out of the three-time winner Livella Fella (Strategic Prince), who is the dam of one winner from two runners – Mai Alward (Havana Grey), a winner and placed once from three British starts.
Sergei Prokofiev, a son of Scat Daddy, stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud, and the farm will be hoping the sire can emulate Havana Grey's achievements of this year. (12:52)
Lot 274: the first foal this week to top 40,000gns is this colt by Without Parole, purchased by Julie Woods' Woodstock for 46,000gns. A first foal out of the Mukhadram mare Image Of The Moon, he has been purchased by Wood as a racing prospect.
"We had some success this year with Rich by Cracksman, who is obviously a son of Frankel," said Woods. "So this year I thought I'd get in on the Frankel line again and his first-season sire son Without Parole. This is a nice foal, he looks quite compact at the moment, has a touch of class and is a good walker. It is a nice page and he was popular, but I thought he is nice enough to be one to go for."
Rich was bought by Woodstock at the February Sale 2021 for 26,000gns. He won his maiden at Newbury on his debut start in May and then finished mid-division in September's Rockfel Stakes (G2). (12:20)
Lot 244: Archdale Bloodstock and Ard Erin Stud go to 34,000gns for the Invincible Army colt out of Doors To Manual (Royal Academy), sold by Belmont Stud.
Doors To Manual has produced two winners, headed by the well-named Safety Check (Dubawi), very successful in Dubai with victories in the Zabeel Mile (G2) and twice a winner of the Al Fahidi Fort Stakes (G2).
The mare is a half-sister to the Critérium de Saint-Cloud (G1) hero Marchand De Sable, and the winner of another seven Group 2 and 3 races in France.
There are a further three lots due through the ring this week by the Yeomanstown Stud-based son of Invincible Spirit, whose first-crop yearlings averaged 52,696gns across the Tattersalls group's yearling sales in Britain and Ireland this autumn.
Nico Archdale of Archdale Bloodstock has joined forces with Tom and Davy Brickley, the brothers from Ard Erin Stud, who had a great season with their foal to yearling pinhooks at Tattersalls enjoying a top price of 270,000gns given by Oliver St Lawrence at October Book 2 for their colt out of Shortmile Lady and by Exceed And Excel. The colt had been purchased as a foal at the Tattersalls December Sale 2021 for 50,000gns.
Shortmile Lady is now the dam of the exciting juvenile Sakheer, winner of the Mill Reef Stakes (G2), and her foal of this year by Sea The Stars is due to sell this week as Lot 1052 from Yellowford Farm. (11:37)
Lot 239: the first foal to sell in the Tattersalls sale ring by new sire Without Parole makes 28,000gns.
The colt was sold by Galloway Stud and is out of the Sea The Moon mare Rachel Zane, who was placed as a three-year-old. She is a half-sister to Queen Blossom (Jeremy), winner of the Park Express Stakes (G3) and the Santa Barbara Stakes (G3). As a dam Queen Blossom has made a bright start to her second career – she is dam of a winner no less than Blue Rose Cen, winner of the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac for trainer Christopher Head and owner Yeguada Centurion SL.
He was purchased by Aughamore Stud. (11:18)
