"She is going to Ireland and for a partnership. We have not decided what we are going to do yet as regards stallions. She is a lovely mare and a great reflection of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's breeding programme, she is one of the picks of the day."
(19:42)
Sceptre Session Lot 1612:
Innevera goes to Jill Lamb Bloodstock buying with Graham Smith-Bernal for 750,000gns.

"We are really pleased to get her, she was our main pick for today, " said Lamb. "She is a lovely individual, her first foal is very highly rated and now on a mark of 115, and I loved her Le Havre yearling who I saw – she was bought here by David Redvers for 350,000gns, she was a beauty. She is going to Ralph Beckett so is in safe hands.
"We liked the Zarak cover, too."
Lamb added: "We have no stallions in mind at the moment, she is a complete outcross."

(16:40)
Lot 1535:
"She is for Lucky Vega," reported Michael Donohoe after spending 330,000gns on Violante (Kingmambo) from Godolphin. "They don't make Kingmambo mares any more, we bought her half-sister last week – it is a great family and there are not many young Kingmambo mares left."
He added: "I believe the Kingman and the Frankel out of her are nice, the reports are quite good. She should physically suit Lucky Vega and we think the nick of Mr Prospector will work on Lucky Vega."
Lucky Vega, owned by Mr Zhang Yuesheng, won the Phoenix Stakes (G1) and was runner-up in the Middle Park Stakes (G1) and the St James's Palace Stakes (G1), and third in the 2,000 Guineas. He is by Lope De Vega and stands at the Irish National Stud. Next spring will be his second season at stud.
Violante has had eight foals – her 2015 gelding by New Approach is the Group 3 Prix Messidor winner Impulsif. In 2020, she had a filly by Frankel, in 2021 a colt by Kingman and this year a colt by Frankel.
Donohoe's words "it is a great family" is bit of an understatement – Violante is out of the Group 3 winner Allez Les Trois (Riverman), and is the dam of three black-type winners, headed by the Group 1 Prix Jockey Club Anabaa Blue. She is grand-dam of Tamayuz and Santiago.
Second dam is Allegretta, dam of nine winners headlined by the wonderful Urban Sea, the European champion older mare of 1993, winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and dam of Galileo, Sea The Stars, Black Sam Bellamy, My Typhoon, Born Too Sea, Melikah, Cherry Hinton, All Too Beautiful and Urban Ocean.

(15:02)
Lot 1518:

(14:55)
Lot 1497:
Magical Fire, who boasts Group 2-placed form in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (G2), and is well-related with the multiple Group race winner and Group - placed performer Hawksmoor and Royal Dornach, winner of the Royal Lodge Stakes (G2), as half-siblings, sells for 200,000gns after the bidding opened up at 100,000gns. She was bought by PE Equine Management sold by Baroda Stud.
She is in-foal to Sea The Moon, and has had one runner so far – Hedwig, the winner of two races.
(14:05)
Lot 1453:
John O'Connor of Ballylinch Stud makes a second early purchase today going to 170,000gns for Fiery Sunset (Galileo)/ O'Connor mentioned early today that if he buys an older mare he likes if they have produced more than one stakes performer... he has to slightly break his rules for this mare, as Fiery Sunset is the dam of just one – her second foal Evening Sun (Muhaarar) the winner of four races, including the San Francisco Mile Stakes (G3).
However, by this time next year, Fiery Sunset could be the dam of that second stakes horse – her two-year-old of this year, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Circle Of Fire (Almanzor), an impressive winner on his second start when winning a novice over a mile at Salisbury.
John Warren said after the victory: "He is big and impressive physically and for his size and scope Sir Michael has been seeing something at home. He had a nice introduction, partly because he wasn't so quick out of the stalls when he started. The penny dropped, he got into gear and Ryan was impressed. He's a nice horse for the future, he looks as though he's got exciting potential."
Circle Of Fire, who holds a 2023 Derby entry, was one of The Queen's last winners – he won at Salisbury on September 1, the last winner she had was the Clive Cox-trained Love Affairs who won at Goodwood on Tuesday, September 6.
(13:53)

The extended family finds its way to the Coronation Cup (G1) winner Lupe, and the champions Loup Sauvage and Loup Solitaire.
(13:07)
Lot 1418:
Royal Ffanci is bought by Ballylinch Stud for 190,000gns.
She is a 2011 mare by Royal Applause, out of Madamoiselle Jones (Emperor Jones), the dam of Dam's Dream, a Cityscape winner of the Fred Darling Stakes (G3), and Caernarfon, also by Cityscape and Listed placed and a Listed winner since the catalogue was published.
Tiriana, second dam of Royal Ffanci, is the dam of Penkenna Princess, another winner of the Fred Darling, and a runner-up in the Irish 1,000 Guineas (G1).
It was another successful sale this morning for Furnace Mill Stud on behalf of Hunscote Stud.
"She has been bought for one of the Ballylinch stallions," said buyer John O'Connor of Ballylinch. "I love a mare who can produce more than one stakes horse, and Caernarfon looked quite impressive in his win in the Montrose Stakes, he looks as though he could on again next season.
"I liked her physically, she is quite a neat mare. The breeder has also retained a couple of fillies out of the mare."

Tattersalls December Foal Sale
Chairman's statement:
At the conclusion of the 2022 Tattersalls December Foal Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“Strong yearling sales will always drive demand for foals and the extraordinary strength of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales has been followed by a Tattersalls December Foal Sale, which has achieved significant increases in average and median as well as a record turnover in excess of 35 million guineas.
"The cream of the British and Irish foal crop has been assembled here at Park Paddocks and buyers at every level of the market and from throughout the world have all contributed to yet another record breaking sale in a year of extraordinary sales at Tattersalls.
“To see so many British and Irish breeders rewarded so handsomely this week reflects the quality of the stock which they have brought to the market and we should thank the consignors for their confidence in the Tattersalls December Foal Sale which consistently showcases the finest foals to be found in Europe.
"The buyers, whether looking to race or to pinhook, know that the Tattersalls December Foal Sale will satisfy every possible requirement and the competition for quality foals has been unrelenting. In addition to Whitsbury Manor Stud’s outstanding one million guineas sale-topping KINGMAN filly, the sale has produced the four highest-priced foals in Europe and a record-equalling 27 foals sold for 200,000 guineas or more, all of which has demonstrated the sustained appetite for the best European bloodstock which has been so evident at every Tattersalls sale in 2022.
“While the December Foal Sale is always dominated by the tireless and loyal British and Irish pinhookers, their European counterparts have also made their presence felt, as have a significant number of the world’s leading owners who recognise the December Foal Sale as a consistent source of Classic and Group 1 performers.
"It is no coincidence that the connections of the Group 1-winning two-year-olds BLACKBEARD and CHALDEAN, both bought at the 2020 December Foal Sale, have again targeted this sale and international buyers from America, China, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Spain, Switzerland and from throughout the Gulf region have also made significant contributions, particularly at the top of the market.
“The international influence will without doubt be even stronger as we move on to the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, which starts on Monday and features the inaugural Sceptre Sessions for elite fillies and broodmares. We have an exceptional catalogue which includes some of the best race fillies and mares to be offered at public auction for many a year and we look forward to ending the Tattersalls year on a high note."

Lot 1316:
Hinting ran twice in France and failed to secure even a placing. Her mother Innuendo (Caerleon) was a better racemare – she won a Grade 2 and Grade 3 in the US, finished third in the EP Taylor Stakes (G1) and was placed in Group races in France. She has produced six winners, including Criticism, who is a Grade 2 winner and a multiple graded race performer with a second placing in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational amongst her achievements. She is dam of Magical Touch
Third dam Infamy won the Grade 1 Rothman's Invitational Stakes at Woodbine, the Group 2 Sun Chariot Stakes and the Gordon Richard Stakes (G3). She is quite the successful broodmare producer of the multiple Group and graded winner Moon Queen, the Group 3 winner Barafamy and Rostropovich, winner of the Saval Beg Stakes (L).
Hinting was bred by Godolphin and was bought by Jill Lamb Bloodstock for 28,000gns at the July Horses in Training Sale 2020. Her first foal is by
Harry Angel, was sold by Stringston Farm to Redgate Bloodstock for 46,000gns.
(17:00)
Lot 1263 and Lot 1264:
both sold by Josh Cameron's Daymark Stud and both make 60,000gns – Lot
1263 is an Havana Grey first foal out of Enough's Enough (Adaay), bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud, while Lot
1264 is a Showcasing colt, the second foal out of Speculating (Xtension) and bred Josh Cameron.
Speculating already has been a bit of a broodmare star – her first foal by Havana Grey made 21,000gns here last year bought by the new pinhooking syndicate The Gals Gals. The girls resold the colt in Book 2 to Oceanic Bloodstock for 150,000gns.
Both mares are half-sisters to black-type winners – Enough's Enough is a half to Laugh A Minute, winner of the Cork Stakes (L) and placed in the Chipchase Stakes (G3) and the Prix de Meautry (G3), while Speculating's half-brother is Danehill Kodiac, winner of the Cumberland Lodge Stakes (G3).
(16:12)
The Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase
goes to the Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale graduate, the Little Lodge Farm and Rahinston Farm-bred Shirocco gelding Le Milos, trained by Dan Skelton and ridden by Harry Skelton.
"He was magic, I was on the limit the whole way but I knew he'd keep finding," said Skelton
Le Milos is out of the star Listed-winning mare Banjaxed Girl (King's Theatre) and was sold by Little Lodge Farm to Agencie FIPS for €27,000 as a foal in November 2015.
The mare's three-year-old by Blue Bresil was sold by Oak Tree Farm at this year's Derby Sale to Milestone Bloodstock for €75,000.
With the late John Fowler, Banjaxed Girl was part-bred by Robert Chugg, who sadly died in February. The victory is a great testament to both his and the Fowler family's NH bloodstock legacy.
(15:34)
Lot 1250:
"It has taken me by surprise!" said Simon Sweeting after selling this Masar colt out of Hawaafez for 110,000gns to Yeomanstown.
As Sweeting explains, it is quick return on an investment made in February this year.
"Richard Brown bought the mare for me here in February, I was not around and he did it himself," explains Sweeting. "It looked like a chancy buy to start with but the mare was an exceptional racehorse and Rogue Millennium has come along, and everything else has landed into place, too – the two-year-old is now one for one and her Kingman yearling has gone to trainer George Boughey.
"It is definitely a progressive family, but that sale did take me by surprise, but it is a lovely surprise to have! He was a late foal, but he has been very straightforward and everything has worked out well."
Hawaafez by Nayef and winner of the Cumberland Lodge Stakes (L) was bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 14,000gns at the February Sale.
In May, her 2019 daughter Rogue Millennium (Dubawi) won the Listed Lingfield Oaks Trial and in June finished second in the Hoppings Fillies Stakes (G3), while Naomi Lapaglia, her two-year-old by Awtaad, won on her career debut at Kempton earlier this month.
Sweeting also has some exciting sale plans next week.
"We are offering a mare in-foal to Dubawi, the only one to be offered this year at public auction. I have no idea what will happen, but she is there and we want to sell her. However, she is a super mare and if I have to take her home, I wouldn't be that sad to breeding a Dubawi next year!
"We don't know what sex the foal is, but she is an exciting prospect to be bringing to sale."
The mare is Mohjatty (Awtaad), a three-parts sister to the champion Taghrooda. She sells as Lot 1872 in Tuesday's Sceptre Session.
(14:48)
Lot 1231 :
by one of the sires of the moment Havana Grey and out of the winning Helmet mare Highly Dancer, a half-sister to the Hong Kong Listed winner and Champions Mile (G1) runner-up Rewarding Hero (Exceed And Excel), makes 70,000gns.
The filly, a first foal for the mare and bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud, was sold by Houghton Bloodstock to Drummond Bloodstock.
Highly Dancer was covered by Showcasing this spring.
(14:25)
Woosh....
the Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale graduate Constitution Hill, winner of Supreme Novices Hurdle (G1) at the Festival in March, imperious on his seasonal comeback in the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle. The son of Blue Bresil was never headed and won by an eased down 12l.
"He was very slick today.... he was breathtaking," said jockey Nico De Boinville to ITV Racing.
(14:25)
Lot 1222:
Saturday is turning into Mohaather's day... three of the top ten highest price foals today are by the son of Showcasing with this colt bought for 110,000gns by Shadwell from Barton Stud. He is a first foal out of the Exceed And Excel mare Time For Change, and was sold by Barton Stud.
Angus Gold said: "Obviously, we are a bit biased, Mohaather was a very special horse for us. We thought he was slightly underrated if anything, for me what he did at Goodwood that day in the Sussex Stakes was out of the ordinary, I have not seen a horse quicken like that since Kingman in the same race.
"So we are big fans and I have liked the stock I have seen. What I particularly liked is that, leading into this week, lots of people have told me that they have a really nice Mohaather foal, which is great to hear. We bought one two days ago, and the vendor told me they had an even better one at home. There are some really good vibes about him."
Of this foal. Gold outlined: "I thought this was a really smart horse, and a lot of people thought the same, I heard he had ten vets on him so he was always going to cost a bit. He is out of a half-sister to a horse who ran second in the Gimcrack and was a handy horse, and this horse looks a sprinter. If he is any good he will be fast and hopefully will be one to get the stallion off to a good start.
Of the buying at this sale through the week, Gold added: "We have bought seven foals. Obviously we sold over the last couple of years we sold many mares that we ended up with around 50. With some barren or slipped or were maidens, it means that the stud's foal crop is only have around 35 and by the time we they go into training we will be down on numbers in training.
"I spoke with Sheikha Hissa and she was keen to get some foals to supplement the racing team, if we could buy at relatively sensible money."
Explaining a little more of the Shadwell plans, he said: "Over the last two years it was about getting it all to a manageable size. The family has got a bit more structure to the whole organisation now and I think Sheikha Hissa is just trying to see what sot of size she would like it to be. We will have around 100 horses in training next year, we had about 75-80 this year."
Buying plans for next week are currently fluid.
"I will be looking at mares next week," smiled Gold, and referencing to a certain new stallion on the Shadwell roster, added: "If there is anything that Stephen Collins and I think we should be buying to add to the broodmare band, we will chat – we have got a real reason to get some nice mares!
"I don't know whether the family will want to be at that end of the market straight away, but next week's sale looks a lovely catalogue on paper. We will see what happens."
The colt was bred by consignor Tom Blain under his own Ickworth Stud banner.
Blain said: "We are really pleased, the mare Time For Change is owned in partnership, it is a great thrill and I am delighted for all involved. It was a bit weird to watch one sell of our own! We bought her for 9,000gns, she is a lovely mare by Exceed And Excel and I know the family, we used to board her dam Purple Tiger and there is a lot happening under the second dam.
"She is a good-looking mare and she has thrown an an absolute beauty of a first foal, it is really exciting. I think he should make up into a serious racehorse and just want to thank Angus for his support. It is great Shadwell and Sheikha Hissa are backing their own stallion, we used him a number of times in the first year so really happy."

Lot 1198:
Michael Fitzpatrick and JC Bloodstock spends 50,000gns on Stringston Farm's Masar colt out of Silver Clouds (Oasis Dream), the dam of one winner from one runner El Camino, who is now the winner of six races.
Silver Clouds was purchased for 40,000gns by Stringston Farm here in 2017. She is unraced and out of the once-raced Sadler's Wells mare Jane Eyre, a daughter of the German champion older mare Albanova, the dam of Alwilda, who is, of course, dam of the star Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Alpinista.

Lot 1182:
"We bred four mares to Sergei in his first year and have had three very nice foals, we sold one earlier this week for 82,000gns [Lot 513]," said Chris Budgett of Kirtlington Stud after selling this colt for 70,000gns, a half-brother to the multiple Group race performer Ropey Guest, to Camas Park Stud.
"He is stamping them and they look active, which is great. He looks like he is another stallion that Ed Harper has hit the jackpot with. This foal is a baby, an April 30th foal, a real youngster and we were thought he might be a little too immature to take this. He has been out 35 times this morning, he is a little person, ears pricked walking along, getting on with it and has been the same all the way through.
"We have had the family for a while – Good Old Boy [Group 2 Superlative Stakes winner under the second dam] was raised at Kirtlington. The pedigree is owned in partnership with Sarah Hamilton and Sarah is great, we've owned horse together for many years, sometimes it goes well and sometimes it doesn't! But we breed them to sell them, and today is a good day."
Budgett also sold Lot
1184, a chestnut colt by Ulysses, for the Exors of the late owner-breeder Dr Catherine Wills, who died in July.
Budgett said: "That is the last one for her. When she told me earlier this year that she was terminal, she said I very much doubt that I will get to the sales, and do you actually I am pleased that she didn't as she bred to race not for the sales. She had such fun racing them, and they were from her Dad's families and she kept them going. It is a sad day and we have couple of mares entered next week."

Lot 1148:
a second by the young Shadwell sire Mohaather catches the eye and Tally-Ho Stud had to go to 68,000gns to buy the colt bred by Lofts Hall Stud and sold by Barton Stud. It is a 14th purchase by the O'Callaghan's farm this week, the busiest buyer at this year's foal sale.
The March foal is out of Muaamara (Bahamian Bounty), who is a half-sister to Master Of War (Compton Place), winner of the Rose Bowl Stakes (L), and runner-up in the Richmond Stakes (G2), the Mill Reef Stakes (G2) and third placed in the Solario Stakes (G3).
Third dam Gharam finished third in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (G1) and second in the Sweet Solera Stakes (L).
(11:21)
Lot 1144:
Whatcote Farm Stud's colt by Mohaather makes 50,000gns and is bought by Brian Grassick Bloodstock, Cathy Grassick bidding from the stairs.
It is a third-best price at the foal sales for Paul Coe and Simon Nicholson's farm in Warwickshire and the team was delighted with the result, it is a fine return on the mare's purchase in at the February Sale in 2015.
"We bought her for just 3,500gns," said Coe. "American Sonja has been an exciting runner for her this year, she has a Guineas entry. The mare has always given a lot of strength and size to her foals. We decided on Mohaather, we thought he'd suit her physically, she has always done a good job and we thoughts she deserved a step up the ladder. She is not in-foal as she was a bit late, we don't have any covering plans as yet – we have to see how we get on here first!"
American Sonja (Tasleet) is in training with Joseph O'Brien, was sold by the farm as a foal for 22,000gns to Timmy Hillman. Castledillon Stud sold her for £30,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale to Con Marnane, who breezed her at the Craven Sale selling her to Peter Trainor for 95,000gns.
She is the second winner for the mare Gumhrear (Kodiac)and picked up her maiden at The Curragh on her fourth career start after finishing runner-up twice. She has a BHA rating of 87.

Lot 1067 and Lot 1074:
Shadwell buys two lots in quick succession – Lot
1067, a colt by Frankel and out of Wonderful Filly, the dam of Wonderful Moon, joint champion two-year-old in Germany. The colt was sold by Marwell Park for 370,000gns
Lot
1074 is a Ghaiyyath filly from Norelands Stud. She is out of the Dalakhani mare Tanoura, dam of two the Group 3 winners Tanaza and Taniyar, and cost 375,000gns.
Shadwell, this week's third leading buyer, has bought six foals this week for an aggregate spend of 1,202,000gns at an average price of 200,333gns.
A further three purchasers have spent seven-figure sums this week – leading buyer Juddmonte has bought four foals for an aggregate spend of 2,425,000gns, Camas Park has spent 1,205,000gns on seven lots and Yeomanstown has bought 11 foals for an outlay of 1,190,000gns.
BBA Ireland and Tally-Ho Stud have been busiest buyers – both picking up 13 foals each.
Unsurprisingly, Whitsbury Manor Stud is the week's leading consignor by aggregate at 2,201,5000gns and the only farm to edge over the two million bracket.
Tweenhills Farm & Stud, New England Stud, Norelands Stud and The Castlebridge Consignment are the other consignors to achieve seven-figure turnovers.
The week's leading farm by average is Langton – three lots sold for an average price of 248,333gns.

Lot 1063:
Mount Coote bought the mare Sunny Again for just €15,000 in 2017 – since then her progeny have been collecting Group race form – Elisa Again won the Premio Verziere (G3), Berkshire Rocco finished second in the St Leger (G1) and won the Noel Murless Stakes (L), Sunset Shiraz finished second in the Debutante Stakes (G2) and third in the Moyglare Stakes (G1).
Her yearling of this year by Sea The Stars was bought by Godolphin for 550,000gns, and her foal is sold today for the same amount, bought by Moyglare Sud Farm, Fiona Craig in charge of bidding.
"She is a Frankel! And we all know how much he is going to be next year," laughed Craig. "If you breed, you don't know if you are going to get a colt or something upsides down. This is a filly, she is nice, she is not a great big striding filly, but I know what Homeless Songs looks like.
"I wasn't going to buy an Oaks winner, I want to buy something fast – we have plenty of slow ones. Speed is so hard to find, she looks fast, the pedigree is great. Mount Coote is great and they raise loads of good horses. And... she is a Frankel!"
Tabitha Lillingston of Mount Coote said outside the sales ring: "It is so exciting, we have been so lucky with that mare. She fantastic, she does it every time, and now she has some really exciting horses to run for her. When Fiona saw the filly, she said she is just the same as Homeless Songs.
"The mare has rewarded us, sometimes you get lucky. Luke loves his pedigrees and he did a lot of looking at the covering, he was really excited about it. Fingers crossed!"

Lot 1056:
the young French stud Sumbe has bought three horses today, the most expensive being this Frankel filly bred by Emma Banks out of Mrs Gallagher (Oasis Dream) and sold by New England Stud for 425,000gns.
The mare was a Listed winner and has had one runner so far – Miss Gallagher who was retained and has been placed once as a two-year-old this year.
The mare's Starspangledbanner yearling of 2022 sold at October Book 1 for 350,000gns bought by Richard Knight.
It is the fast family of Xtension, Harry Angel, Supremacy and this year's Listed filly White Lavender.
Sumbe has also bought Lot
923 (Showcasing ex Killermont Street) for 100,000gns and Lot
924 (Night of Thunder ex Roman Venture) for 200,000gns.
Tony Fry said: "She’s a lovely filly and we were underbidder on the Starspangledbanner colt as a yearling. She’ll go back to Hesmonds now. We have a plethora of stallions now and she will, hopefully, join our broodmare band when she finishes racing. The sire can’t do any wrong."
Of the farm's new stallion Mishriff, who joined the roster after his fourth place in the Breeders' Cup Turf, Fry said: “Mishriff is getting on super. We haven’t started showing him yet but already the bookings are coming in. You can’t but be impressed by him. People know his race record but when they see his physical they'll be even more impressed. We’re looking forward to showing him off.”

Lot 1041
the last lot through the ring from the soon-to-end Heatherwold Stud in its current ownership makes 500,000gns, the filly by Frankel and out of the Intense Focus mare Awesometank is bought by Juddmonte Farms.
Bloodstock advisor Jeremy Brummitt said: "It is bitter-sweet sale really, she is the final youngster to be sold from Heatherwold Stud under Mick Caddy's ownership – he is ceasing operations and has gone out with a bang!
"I bought the grand-dam Janey Muddles – I remember seeing her win first time out at The Curragh, I think she was Lawman's first winner as a two-year-old, she passed the whole field and was on the slowest of the ground.
"I never forgot her and the owner came around to sell her, she was carrying her second foal which was an in-house covering to Intense Focus. I bought her here for 115,000gns in 2014. That foal became an absolutely lovely yearling, was named Awesometank – we bought her back at the sales and raced her.
"She took us to Canada and Chicago and was second in the Beverley D, and now she is breeding. She lives in a field with her dam and they are two of the happiest mares I have ever seen, and they both raise happy and contented foals."
Of the Frankel covering, he added: "I am not terribly excited about in-breeding to Danehill but I risked it with this mare because she is such a fantastic mover. What I was really looking for was the power that Frankel could prove."
(18:07)
Lot 1025:
the Kingman half-sister to Chaldean, this year's winner of the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, sells for 1,000,000gns. She was bought by Juddmonte Farms, and is the farm's most expensive Tattersalls sale ring purchase.
Chaldean, a son of Frankel, was bought as a foal by Juddmonte at this sale in 2020 for 550,000gns.
She is also the sixth most expensive foal ever sold at a Tattersalls December Foal Sale and the most expensive filly since 2018.
The March-born filly was sold by breeder Whitsbury Manor Stud, her four-time dam winning dam Suelita bought at the mares' sale by Chris Harper in 2013 for 21,500gns. She has had six winners from six runners – one a Group 1 winner, two black-type winners, and two who have collected placed form in Listed races.
Bidding started at 200,000gns, and Philipp von Stauffenberg in the left gangway, Michael Donohoe, who was sat to the left of the rostrum with Mr Zhang, Simon Mockridge in the right gangway and an online bidder took the early bidding along.
David Redvers, standing in the bidders', stepped in at 850,000gns and pushed out a couple of bids, Mockridge eventually pressing the button at 1,000,000gns.
Mockridge said: "We are delighted. It is always going to be expensive buying a filly like that when you've got a new Group 1 winner on the page. Chaldean is very exciting, we were delighted to buy him from Whitsbury a couple of years back and the Harpers do a great job, I am very happy for Ed Harper and his team.
"The family want to reinvest in pedigrees, this is a very strong page and with Chaldean, who knows what is going to happen next year? This filly could be a very valuable prospect going forwards."
When asked if there are comparisons between the two, Mockridge said: "Chaldean was a slightly smaller horse, she is bigger, she has a big backside on her. She looks faster, if you can say that, but she is an exciting filly. Kingman has had such a good season two Group 1 winners and 14 individual Group winners, he is going from strength to strength."
Consignor Harper said: "What has it been, two months' since the Dewhurst? It feels like a long long two months! Thank goodness we had her entered here, I could not have hung ion another year waiting to sell her. Every time someone dropped a spanner at home, you fear.
"It is lovely to get a big round figure like that, it is fantastic and we really appreciate Juddmonte's support. The farm supported us by buying Chaldean and has done it again. Hopefully ,she can repay that faith and be a bit of sport on the racetrack before going to Frankel in a couple of years' time. She is nailed on to be a broodmare for Frankel.
"With luck, she is the perfect sort of mare for him, not just pedigree and physic, too - hopefully she wins a couple of Group 1s on the way!"
When asked if there were ever any thoughts about retaining her, Harper laughed and said: "I'd like to keep my hair line if possible! I am very happy, there are no regrets. Alastair Pim did a great job in the ring and gave her every chance. There have been a lot of people involved in getting here – and don't forget, this was the last mare that Dad bought so not a bad way to finish off his buying."
The preceding lot from Whitsbury, Lot
1024 by Frankel and out of the Listed-placed Showcasing mare Heartwarming, was bought by Tina Rau Bloodstock / Gestüt Fährhof for 320,000gns.
Andreas Jacobs said: "She’s been bought to race. We liked the pedigree. There’s a lot of quality coming up in the next three or four years, there’s lots of potential for it to grow. We love the mating, Frankel over Showcasing. She’s a handy version of Frankel which we like."
(17:03)
Lot 999, Lot 1000, Lot 1001 and Lot 1002:
foals sold from the Southcourt Stud partial dispersal make 125,000gns, 160,000gns, 210,000gns and 400,000gns, bought by Rathmore Stud, McCalmont Bloodstock, Bitzen Bloodstock and McKeever Bloodstock /Ballyhimikin. They were consigned by New England Stud.
Lot
999 is by Mehmas and out of the Lillie Langtry Stakes (G3) runner-up Dubka (Dubawi) from the family of Notnowcato. The further three foals are all
out of black-type mares from the late Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's Crystal Ocean family.
Johnny McKeever reported on the purchase of the top-priced of the quartet, the Sea The Stars filly out of the Notnowcato mare Waila, a half-sister to the dam of Crystal Ocean (Lot
1002).
"James [Hanly of Ballyhimikin] will probably put her back through Book 1, but she is also a foundation broodmare," said McKeever. "It is a pinhook purchase, but also the purchase of a foundation mare if needs be. It is so hard to get into these families and it is a once-in-lifetime opportunity, sadly with the passing of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild there is a chance to get into families that would never be available."
McKeever added: "We understand that the full-sister is an extremely useful filly and she is to be offered next week [Infinite Cosmos, Lot 1954], so it will be interesting to see which trainer gets hold of her, but I believe Sir Michael thinks she is very very good. That was an added incentive to buy this foal.
"We have worked very hard at this sale and come away with nothing so far. James likes to buy the one that he gets a really strong feeling about, the really important ones. We have stopped on others but he was not stopping on her."
The four from Southcourt were sold by Peter Stanley's New England Stud and he had mixed emotions about the sale.
"It is incredibly sad when it comes to the end of an era and Evelyn was the most charming man," said Stanley. "I would much rather be talking to him than selling his horse for a lot of money. It is a great credit to him that he had four foals on the ground and they all sold as well that.
"It is to Sir Evelyn's credit that he created a couple of fantastic families. We should not forget that his sister Renee Robson was really the power behind the scene, she was the one who created these families with Evelyn – he gave her the firepower to do it, but he was always prepared to back her judgement.
"I have been lucky enough to be involved for the last 15 years and help with the matings. He was a great man to deal with and it is sad to be saying goodbye to him."
Looking ahead to the partial dispersal sale of mares next week, Sir Peter said: "There are some lovely mares there, it is sad to be letting go of horses like that. It is a legacy and I think what is wonderful is that Evelyn has left behind something to be very proud of, and for the family to be very proud of."
(16:09)
Lot 973:
the Kingman filly from Selwood Bloodstock out of Burning Rules (Aussie Rules), a half-sister to Angel Power (Lope De Vega), winner of the Premio Lydia Tesio (G2), makes 425,000gns. It was a second purchase this week by Juddmonte Farms.
"I am delighted with that price, it is fantastic and am really pleased for Anita Wigan who bred her," said James Read of Selwood Bloodstock, walking and talking back to Highflyer Paddock. "She is a beautiful filly, and I am delighted to get Anita such a great price.
"It is the best price we have for around 10 years. The mare is not in-foal, but is going to Baaeed next spring. Her Lope De Vega yearling made 150,000gns in October and is with William Haggas."
West Blagdon Bloodstock purchased Burning Rules for 95,000gns in 2016 as a four-year-old. She is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Blue De Vega and has three winners from three runners, headed by her Group-winning daughter.
