Lot 557:
Bobby Jackson of Tattersalls, bidding on behalf of leading Qatari owner Abdulatif Hussain Al-Emadi, goes to 150,000gns for Captain Winters.
The three-year-old colt by Lope De Vega was offered by Kevin Ryan's Hambleton Lodge Stables for Godolphin, and was a winner of the Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown in May and ran in the Hampton Court Stakes (G3) at Royal Ascot last time out. He is BHA rated 104.
The colt will be trained in Qatar by Badar Albalushi, who said: "He is a good horse, he is a Listed race winner. He likes the fast ground, which he will race on in Qatar, and he has form over a mile so there will be plenty of options for him, too."
Captain Winters is the most expensive horse bought so far in the ring by Jackson.
(16:52)
Lot 552:
the Jim Bolger-trained, owned and bred New Variant (New Approach) is bought by Will Douglass for the Middle East spending 130,000gns on the three-year-old.
The gelding is rated 98, has run nine times and won twice, his wins coming successively in April and May over 1m4f and 1m2f. Both victories were achieved off a rating of 83.
Last time out he finished fifth in the 1m4f Martin Molony Stakes (L).
"He is a hardy horse and sound," said Douglass.
(16:50)
Lot 528:
Keith William Bell / Elton Racing came with one horse in mind and they got him – the team spending 170,000gns on Maasai Mara, a son of Roaring Lion, a winner over 1m2f and 1m3f.
The three-year-old has been bought with a hurdling campaign in mind and trainer John O'Shea of Elton Racing and sat with Bell explained plans: "Keith is my landlord and has been for 27 years. Although I mainly train on the Flat now, Keith is a jumping man and he has had over 100 winners. We have been looking for a new horse for him over 12 months and this is the only one we picked out here."
Explaining the reasoning behind the purchase, O'Shea said: "He ticks a lot of boxes, he gets decent trip, he is a nice looking horse, he goes on soft ground, and he is highly rated. He won't run again on the Flat, we will wait now and get him schooled for a hurdles campaign in the autumn."
Massai Mara is rated 86, has been in training with John and Thady Gosden for Qatar Racing. He has run eight times and won twice, his last success coming off a BHA mark of 83.
He is out of the Hurricane Run mare Wekeela, winner of the Prix Chloe (G3) and the Matchmaker Stakes (G3) and a three-time Group and Grade 1 runner-up.
(15:54)
Lot 516B:
wild card entry also catches the buyers' eyes and I Am Invictus (Cotai Glory-Asrafairy (Zebedee)) offered by The Castlebridge Consignment is bought by KGS for 150,000gns.
Khalid Sallami said: "He vetted well, and he is clean, and everything is fine with him. The horse is strong, has good strong form, he has speed and is still only a two-year-old. Hopefully, he will be a champion in Dubai.
"We might try the Dubai Derby, whether he will get the mile, but I am sure he will be a good horse over spring trips. He will be trained by Doug Watson."
Am Invictus already has Group race form to his name – he finished fourth in the Railway Stakes (G2) on last time out, just his third racecourse start.
(15:51)
Lot 516A :
wild card entry Ethical Diamond is today's new top lot, the son of Awtaad bought by Harold Kirk and WP Mullins for 320,000gns.
The three-year-old was offered by Baroda Stud for the owner Emma Kennedy, the gelding bred by William Kennedy. He has run three times, finishing fourth, third and winning last time out at Limerick in June over 1m4f on a yielding surface. He was trained by Michael William O'Meara.
Ethical Diamond is out of the broodmare Pearl Diamond (Areion, dam of Precious Boy, a multiple Group race winner in Germany and Group 1 runner-up in the Grosser Dalimayr Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (G1).
Kirk, who flew in to England this morning from a rainy Northern Ireland, said: "He is going to Willie Mullins for an existing client and to be a dual-purpose horse. He will run over hurdles and then head back on the Flat and be a good stayer. He is a 'new' horse, he has improved every run, he is gorgeous horse, he stays well and won very well last time and travels well. Hopefully, he will make up into a Cup horse on the Flat – take us one day to Royal Ascot and one day to Cheltenham!
"He was the one I came for, I can go home now! I knew we'd have big opposition from Australia and I think that is what happened. Australia can't get them all, and Willie likes taking horses to Australia!"
Kirk, who had just one bid, has not bought any before by Awtaad to go jumping and he said: "I can't see why he won't suit, the stallion is by Cape Cross, and this horse comes from a good German pedigree. He looks an athletic type, so I can't see any reason why he won't take to it, he just a beautiful individual.
"We are trying to build up a string of Melbourne Cup horses as well as jumpers. Even though we had the Royal Ascot winner this year, for a couple of years in Covid we missed buying a dual-purpose type of horse, and there has been a bit of a gap for that sort of horse at Willie's."
(15:50)
Lot 509:
Harappan is bought by Scottish trainer Iain Jardine with Compas Equine for owner Hal McGhie, the once-raced three-year-old gelding by Bayern a 150,000gns purchase.
"We are buying the potential, his first run was really good and he could be anything really, he looks a horse with a big future, he is a lovely individual," said Jardine, who added: "He vetted really well, too. We get him back home and assess him, but hopefully he will progress and be a real nice horse and we will get to a big place with him one day.
"Hal has had some real good horses over the years, just recently he has not had a superstar – they have been decent enough and he has been in the winners' enclosure plenty, but he wants a real good one."
Harappan's one run came when third at Newcastle in June over 1m2f for owner-breeder Newtownanner Stud.
(15:40)
Lot 504:
"That's a bit more than I usually spend!" laughed trainer Phil Kirby after bidding to 210,000gns for Anthem National. "We lost Farhan, owned by James Cookson and who we bought here, just before Royal Ascot. James wanted to replace him with a horse capable of getting to the nice days and give some good days out.
"This horse was recommended by Joseph [O'Brien], and he looks as though he can run over 5f, 6f and 7f, which gives us plenty of options. He only ran a few weeks ago so we will get him home, give him a couple of weeks break and then get him out again."
The gelding was bred by Noel O'Callaghan, buyer of Lot
155 yesterday, and as was stated yesterday, the O'Callaghan broodmare bend is mainly one of fast mares.
Anthem National is out of one of the leading mares at Mountarmstrong Stud – Anthem Alexander, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) runner-up in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) and third in the Commonwealth Cup (G1). She is a half-sister to Dandy Man.
Rated 106, he ran second last time out in the 6f Listed Jebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Dash Stakes, owned by O'Callaghan having been a vendor buy back as a yearling in Book 1.
Farhan was bought by Kirby for 150,000gns at the Autumn HIT Sale, and ran second in the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (Registered As The John Porter Stakes) fro Kirby and Cookson.
(15:22)
Lot 459:
Jamie Osborne goes from consignor to purchaser – the Lambourn-based trainer spending 42,000gns on King Of Scotia from The Castlebridge Consignment.
The three-year-old gelding by Kessaar and out of the Royal Applause mare Princess Rose, is rated 89 and has won once from seven starts for Irish trainer Michael O'Callaghan, who purchased here at the 2022 Craven Breeze-Up Sale for 65,000gns.
(14:02)
Lot 449:
Qatar-based trainer Gassim Ghazali, a regular visitor and buyer at Tattersalls, makes a second strike this week going to 100,000gns for Dubawi Spectre, consigned by Baroda Stud for Commontown Stables (Mrs J Harrington) and owner Zhang Yuesheng.
The three-year-old was a winner at Fairyhouse over 1m4f in June off a mark of 78, and subsequently finished sixth in the competitive Ulster Derby at Down Royal and then fourth in a 1m2f handicap at Roscommon from an improved rating of 84.
He is the second foal out of the young mare Spectre (Siyouni), who won the Prix Imprudence (G2) and finished second in the Prix Moulin (G1), third in the Prix Jean Prat (G1) and fourth in the Queen Anne Stakes (G1).
(13:50)
Lot 443:
the first to six figures today is last time winner Edward Cornelius (Bungle Inthejungle), a winner at Hamilton over 6f at the beginning of June for the retiring trainer Keith Dalgleish. He won off a BHA mark of 86 and is now rated 90.
He was bought by Bahrain-based trainer Ali Majeed, who said: "He has been bought to race in the Bahrain series – he is a four-year-old and will suit racing in Bahrain on the fast ground.
"Buying at the July Sales gives more time to prepare for the season that starts earlier on October 27, the October HIT Sale is a little too close."
The gelding, bought for 110,000gns by Majeed for owner Al Mohamediya Racing, has run 18 times, won three races and been placed eight times.
(13:35)
Lot 319:
NH trainer Milton Harris, signing as Avon Racing, goes to 30,000gns for Balboa, a three-year-old gelding consigned by Jamie Osborne's The Old Malthouse Stables.
The Mondialiste gelding has not won but finished a good fifth last week at Sandown in a 0-80 handicap over 1m6f.
The Racing Post analysis wrote: "Balboa, having just his second handicap start and first attempt at this trip, shaped with promise following a tardy start from his wide draw."
The gelding's pedigree indicates that he might be a good one to go jumping – under his third dam, Behera, the European champion three-year-old filly of 1989, is Behrajan, winner of the Tolworth Hurdle (G1), the Premier Long Distance Hurdle (G2) and third placed in the Stayers' Hurdle (G1), Barizan, winner of Punchestown's Champion Four Year Old Hurdle (G1) , and Pont Aven, runner-up in Punchestown's Guinness Handicap Chase (G1).
(12:28)
Lot 388:
Talha, a three-year-old son of Havana Grey, is bought by HH Sultan Aldeen MS Al-Khalifa from Musley Bank Stables (R. Fahey) for 40,000gns.
Bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud, is the winner of one from seven starts – successful over 5f at Redcar in the middle of June and off a BHA rating of 72.
(12:18)
Lot 353:
all the jumping connections were in the ring to see Book Of Tales (Ribchester) sell, and it was Highflyer Bloodstock with trainer Charlie Longsdon who were successful at 30,000gns. The team out bid bloodstock agent Richard Venn.
The three-year-old, offered by Kingsley Park for Godolphin, has won twice since the catalogue was published – at Bath over 1m6f and then over 1m3f at Yarmouth. The current good form continuing he also finished second at the end of June back at Bath over 1m5f and off a mark of 68, his highest career mark to date.
The gelding, who hails from the top-class middle-distance Ballymacoll-developed family of the champions Islington and Greek Dance, has run 10 times and has won or finished in the first four placings on seven of those starts.
(11:11)
Lot 313:
Brookhouse Racing spends 20,000gns on this unnamed two-year-old from Egerton Stud.
The May-born colt is by Postponed and out of dual winner Heavenly Scent (Galileo). She is a daughter of the Listed-placed Cape Cross mare Flora Trevelyan and a grand-daughter of Why So Silent, the dam of the stakes winners Leporello, Poppy Carew and Calypso Grant.
(10:23)
Lot 308:
Eagle Fang, a three-year-old gelding by Free Eagle and who has run once since the catalogue was published when fourth of sixth at Haydock, makes 55,000gns and is signed for by Durkan Bloodstock.
He was sold by Jamie Railton (agent) for owners Richard and Katherine Gilbert and was from the retiring trainer Keith Dalgleish. He is out of the Samum mare Scatina, winner of the Schwarzgold Rennen (G2), the dam of four winners and grand dam of the Group 3 winner See Hector (Counterattack).

Wantoplantatree, a three-year-old colt by Iffraaj, is sold for 130,000gns. He has run twice and is out of the Motivator mare Madame Defarge, who finished third in the Pretty Polly Stakes (L). She is dam of two winners, including the six-time winner Land Of Oz (Australia), who was successful over distances from 1m6f to 2m2f.
It is the further family of the Gredley's champion three-year-old stayer User Friendly – the Group 1 winner of the St Leger, the Yorkshire Oaks, the Irish Oaks, the Oaks and the Grand Prix de Paris.
(18:19)
Lot 262 and Lot 264:
from the final draft from Godolphin, Joyful Heart (Lot
262) makes 190,000gns and Evening Hush (Lot
264) sells for 250,000gns.
By Shamardal, the three-year-old filly Joyful Heart is out of the Listed winner Floristry (Fasliyev), the dam of two black-type winners and from the family of the talented and Group 1 placed Carlton House. She was bought by Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock.
Evening Hush is another by Galileo bought by Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland, who has bought four of the seven mares and fillies sold today by the former champion sire. The quartet have cost an average price of 291,250gns each for a total spend of 1,165,000gns.
The unraced three-year-old Evening Hush is out of the Dubawi mare Wuheida, winner of the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1) and the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1). She was also four times Group 1 placed and is a daughter of the Group and Grade 1 winner Hibaayeb (Singspiel).
(17:55)
Lot 212:
becomes the new top lot – Sweet And Lovely, another daughter of Galileo is bought by Michael Donohoe under the BBA Ireland banner, the agent going to 350,000gns for the WH Bloodstock-consigned unraced mare.
"From the family that sold well early today [Lot 143], and it is a good looking, active happening family," said today's leading buyer. "She has a good cover to Wootton Bassett and he looks as though he is fulfilling the promise. She is carrying a colt and, if everything goes right, she might not be a bad investment – a nice yearling colt at the sales by him and we'd be in with a chance of getting the investment back in one go."
Of her next course of action, he said: "She will go to board at Baroda Stud, Ireland. We will foal her down and make a decision as regards stallions. She could go back to Wootton Bassett – the lads in Coolmore are really banking on the Wootton Bassett cross and John Magnier can certainly make these stallions! We will see what the foal looks like, but I wouldn't bank against her going back to him."
Sweet And Lovely is out of La Traviata (Johannesburg) and is an own-sister to the two-time Group 1 winner Seventh Heaven, dam of Over The Rainbow (Lot
143), and to Coat Of Arms, runner-up in the Futurity Stakes (G2) and fourth placed in the National Stakes (G1).
She is a half-sister to Crusade (Mr Greeley), winner of the Middle Park Stakes (G1), and to Cristoforo Colombo (Henrythenavigator), fourth placed in the Middle Park Stakes (G1).
(16:34)
Lot 192:
Different Light, an own-sister to the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes winner and multiple Group-placed colt Deauville, is the second daughter of Galileo bought today by Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland. She was the first this week to make over 300,000gns – the agent needed to go to 330,000gns to see off his bidding rivals.
"She is a good looking filly and it is a family I know well as I bought out of the family before and bought as sister for a good client in Cork," explained Donohoe. "The family gets good looking horses and she is typical."
He continued: "The client for this filly has mares in the southern and northern hemispheres, and we will pick a European stallion for her, possibly Baaeed or Siyouni. The Siyouni-Galileo cross has worked pretty well, and we also think that this mare and Baaeed could match well physically. I know it is a bit of an in-cross Baaeed, Galileo and Urban Sea, but Shadwell has been sending some Galileo mares to him.
"The probable choice will be Siyouni – he has achieved so much in particular this year – and then Baaeed. She is tall, there is plenty of size and scope to her, and she has good action. She will suit either stallion. "
Of immediate plans for the three-year-old, who has run twice in France and finished down the field in both starts, Donohoe said: "For the time being she will stay in Newmarket withCastlebridge, they look after the client's mares here."
She is out of the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes second-placed Walklikeanegyptian (Danehill), a three-quarter sister to three stakes horses by Danehill Dancer – Callwood Dancer, winner of the Nassau Stakes (G2) and placed second in the E P Taylor Stakes (G1), Contredanse, winner of the Oaks D'Italia (G2), and Set Sail/Cornish, placed third in the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1).
(15:48)
Lot 160:
Sam Sangster Bloodstock goes to 220,000gns for Pomology (Arch), a 13-year-old mare sold by Godolphin. She is dam of Goldspur, a son of Dubawi, winner of the Zetland Stakes (G3), and third placed in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud (G1). He finished third in the Sandown Classic Trial (G3) the last time he was seen on a racecourse in 2022.
Pomology achieved plenty of her own black-type with victories in the Lancashire Oaks (G2) and the Prix Minerve (G2), and a second placing in the Prix Vermeille (G1).
"We thought she was the best mare on the property," reported Sangster. "She was a high class performer herself. I spoke to Charlie [Appleby] and he thinks a lot of Goldspur, and that he will be back racing soon. She has been bought for a syndicate and delighted to get her."
Of her future plans: "I will speak to the guys who are involved in her, but there are plenty of options for her."
(15:14)
Lot 155:
Divine Spirit was no slouch on the racecourse and after winning on her debut as a two-year-old she went onto collect second placings in the 5f Prix d'Arenberg (L) and the 5f Criterium de Vitesse (L). Matt Coleman of Stroud Coleman at Tattersalls was the successful bidder and he had to go to 220,000gns to secure the daughter of Kingman – it is the second time that he has bought her and the third time that Stroud Coleman has been involved in her purchase.
She is joining Noel O'Callaghan's broodmare band at Mountarmstrong Stud.
"I know the filly well – I bought her with Roger O'Callaghan to breeze, and then Anthony [Stroud] bought as a breezer for Godolphin," recalled Coleman. "She is a filly I have known for a while. She was a very good looking yearling and breezed very well, she was very fast,. I think she has a lot of Green Desert to her – she is medium sized, is a very good walker and is very strong. Her brother Manaccan has done fantastically well this year, and the pedigree has really exploded since she was bought as a yearling. It is a very happening pedigree."
He continued: "Noel likes this fast mares, he was keen to buy her – and I think there was a bit of family competition for her! She obviously suits what the O'Callaghan family are renown for breeding – fast horses. Fingers crossed she breeds some good foals for Noel. She had a good walk as a yearling and she has kept that walk."
She was sold in-foal to the four-time Group 1 winner Cracksman and Coleman added: "I think physically that covering would suit her – he is a very big horse and I can see why they did the mating as she is a neat, racy and very athletic filly. And, as we all know, Frankel and Galileo have done very well with fast mares! It could well work.
"But I would think that she would now be bred to some fast stallions moving forward – she does come from a speedy pedigree."
Dam Shyrl (Acclamation) was second in the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and is dam of three black-type horses and two black-type winners – Manaccan (Exceed And Excel), winner of the Mercury Stakes (G3), two Listed races, and placed four times in black-type races, and Racuous. By Dream Ahead, he won the Hopeful Stakes (L), and was placed 21 times, including in the Gimcrack Stakes (G2), the Mill Reef Stakes (G2), the Bengough Stakes (G3) (twice), the Hackwood Stakes (G3) (twice) and the Listed Surrey Stakes.
(15:01)
Lot 159:
Whispering Romance has been signed for by Magnolia Mares, bloodstock agent Justin Casse in the ring and bidding for the daughter of Kingman offered from the Godolphin draft. She cost 220,000gns.
The one-time winner was offered in-foal to Teofilo on an April 3rd service, her first pregnancy. She is out of the Dream Ahead Listed-placed mare Sante, a daughter of the Listed winner Zieting and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Combat Zone, the Group 3 winners Scottish and Royal Empire and the Group 3-placed pair of Bikini Babe and Zut Alors. It is the further family of the late Eqtidaar, winner of the Commonwealth Cup (G1), and the 2,000 Guineas runner-up Massaat.
Casse said: "She is a lovely mare, and I am looking forward to seeing her babies. She will probably be staying in Europe. She haas a good covering to a good solid covering sire. She is by a great sire in Kingman but, most importantly, she is a tremendous physical. I don't see her entering a sale again, her foals and yearlings will be sold in future."
(14:47)
Lot 145:
Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland, sat at the top of the sales ring and by the rostrum, was the successful purchaser of Divinitus (Galileo) at 235,000gns. She was sold with a covering to the new young stallion Blackbeard, the first mare offered at Tattersalls with a covering to the dual Group 1 winner of the Prix Morny and the Middle Park Stakes.
"She is for an existing client," he said. "There are not many young Galileo mares any more. She is a good physical and she has an attractive early covering. There is plenty going on in the pedigree – the two-year-old was nice and he made £150,000 at this spring's breeze up. No plans have been made for her yet."
Divinitus is a first foal out of Realtra (Dark Angel), who won the Brownstown Stakes (G3), the Sceptre Stakes (G3), the Fairy Bridge Stakes (G3) as well as the Dick Hern Fillies Stakes (L) and the Prix Miss Satamixa (L).

Lot 143:

It is a first foray into the Flat division by the farm, which has enjoyed great success with its NH stock at our Irish sales ground – at the recent Derby Sale it sold Lot
84, a gelding by Doctor Dino and out of Star Face, for €250,000, the second-best price at the sale.
Paul McGrath, the farm manager, was at Tattersalls today in charge of purchasing and said: "This is a new division for us, we have been talking about getting a Flat broodmare band up together for some time. We decided we'd make a dart this week. She was not easily bought and went for a bit more than we thought, but we are delighted to have her."
As with the 28 NH mares, the Mariga family of Coolmara is aiming for quality: "She is a foundation Flat broodmare, she has a good covering and she has a good pedigree – it s hard to get. we will make stallion plans once we have got the foal from here. We want to keep the quality up, and we will take it one step at a time as regards developing a Flat band of mares. We will be aiming to operate on a commercial basis.
Of plans for the rest of the day, McGrath is not expecting to be bidding again: "If she had come in under budget the maybe, but she made a bit more!"
The mare's three-year-old half-sister Boogie Woogie (Dubawi) recently finished second in Prix de Royaumont (G3) and has Group 1 entries this summer.

At the conclusion of the 2023 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“The momentum from the recent record-breaking Craven Breeze Up Sale has been well and truly sustained at a second consecutive record-breaking renewal of the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale.
"The combined turnover for the breeze up two-year-olds and horses-in-training has surpassed last year’s record of 6.7 million guineas, the key indicators of average and median have matched or exceeded last year’s impressive returns and 13 two-year-olds have sold for 100,000 guineas or more, which is another record-breaking figure for the fixture.
“Traditionally the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training Sale attracts an abundance of overseas buyers and this year has been no exception with international demand, most notably from throughout Europe and the Gulf region, proving to be a feature of the sale which has also produced a combined clearance rate well in excess of 80 per cent.
"Domestic buyers have as ever made a huge contribution to a successful sale and it is a tribute to the consignors that the breeze up sector continues to go from strength to strength. There is no doubt that the consistent ability of both the Tattersalls Craven and Guineas Breeze Up Sales to produce Classic and Group 1 winners has not gone unnoticed by the buyers and we look forward to seeing plenty more quality performers emerge from both sales in the coming months.”

Lot 322:
we get a joint top lot... the colt by Time Test is bought by trainer Michael O'Callaghan for 200,000gns from Mocklershill.
The colt was bought as a foal by Pier House Stud at the Tattersalls December Sale for 67,000gns, and Brendan Morrin reported that the decision was made quite early to breeze rather than sell as a yearling.
The colt is out of the unraced Galileo mare Lady Glinka, the dam of two winners and an own-sister to Mikhail Glinka, a Group 2 winner in Dubai and a Royal Ascot winner of the Queen's Vase (G3).
"Willie does five or six breezers for us every year," said Morrin. "This horses has a lot of Galileo in him and Willie has done a fantastic job on him. We decided we'd hang on and wait for breeze rather than sell as a yearling, sometimes this plans don't work when buying them as foals but we have been lucky today. He went to Willie's in January unbroken, but we had handled him with the sales yearlings. Willie makes all the decisions as regards sale plans, we go to the best send these horses to him!"
Brown said: "He is a magnificent looking horse, he looks a racehorse, he is a great walking horse and has a great mind on him. I thought waiting for this sale might give him a bit of extra time and he was a stand out today. We have had a great run with the horses sent to us by the Morrins."
O'Callaghan saw the likeness in the horse to his Group 2 Beresford Stakes winner Crypto Force, who was from the second crop of Time Test and was a Tattersalls Guineas Sale 2022 graduate when bought by the trainer for 160,000gns.
"This is a lovely, quality horse, and I hope lightning can strike twice – we bought Crypto Force here last year and he was also out of a Galileo mare. This horse breezed well, he has a lovely action and was a bit green in his breeze, but we can forgive him that," said O'Callaghan.
Underbidder was Richard Ryan.

Lot 309:
the son of Farhh and out of Indigo River (Kodiac) is sold by Tally-Ho Stud and signed for by Rabbah Bloodstock at 150,000gns, trainer James Tate, standing in his customary position near the window, in charge of bidding.
"We like the sire and have had some luck with him, they improve with age and time," he reported. "This a lovely horse with a smashing temperament. We are excited to have him, and we bough Far Above at this sale. He is for Sheikh Duma."
Far Above was a 105,000gns purchase by Blandford Bloodstock from Bushypark Stud at this sale in 2018. He went on to ewon the Group 3 Palace House Stakes.
(18:45)
Lot 308:
is bought by Oliver St Lawrence for the Fawzi Nass ownership team, and the filly goes into training with Jamie Osborne. She cost 150,000gns and is by Congrats (A P Indy) and was sold by Greenlands Farm. She is a grand-daughter of Impossible Time, a champion older mare in Canada in 2010.
"She is a filly put her up to us by Jamie, nice big scopey filly she had done an okay time for a 'non-fast' filly. As she has a US pedigree, she could ship to run in Dubai if that works in after the season ends here. She is not an early May filly," reported St Lawrence.
(18:44)
Lot 301:
one of the expected top lots lives up to his reputation and sells for 200,000gns bought by trainer Richard Hughes / Ted Durcan.
By Zoffany and out of Guardia (Monsun), an own-sister to the champions Getaway and Guadalupe, the colt was sold by Cormac Farrell Bloodstock, having been purchased by Farrell for €55,000 from Jamie Railton at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.
Farrell said: "I am absolutely delighted, I came here expecting to get a nice price, but you never know until you get the breeze out of the way, it is great that people liked him.
"We have been patient with him as he is a big rangy horse. It is amazing that he can breeze so fast, I'd say he is a very good horse, and it sounds silly to say, but we did come here thinking we might be able to top the sale. It is great that he has done what we hoped he would do.
"I think he might be a freak, he can do sections like a 6f horse not a horse wanting 1m4f, he could be just be exceptional and he has shown us that from the very minute we started with him.
"He has just had this insane turn of foot, and it did not make sense, particularly as we thought a bit of the other horses we had, the Kodiacs and the Starspangleds... we just thought 'what is going on?'
"We did not do much work with him, we were nursing him all along, he was raw and we went very steady and it was only a month ago that we started to ask him to show us what he could do, and it was so natural to him that we did not have to do much with him before coming here, just a couple of gallops."
Of the buying process as a yearling, Farrell recalled: "We thought we were give n plenty of money for him at the time as he was a big raw yearling, but at the same time we were very happy to have bought him.
People laughed at me when I said we were going to breeze him and I could see why – in December he looked like an overgrown yearling still, but he has thrived since.
Buyer Richard Hughes, said: "He is for an existing client. I didn't think he should be able to go as quick as he has done and with the backbone of his pedigree a top class staying German family, he has to be good. He is nice big loose horse.
"I will probably turn him out for some May grass now, I think it will do him good and we will get him in in a month or so and look to ready him for an October maiden."
Underbidders included Stuart Boman, Jamie Piggott and Richard Fitzsimons.
(18:39)
Lot 289:
this colt by the first-season sire Solider Call is bought by Federico Barberini / Alan King for 110,000gns. Trainer Alan King was in charge of the yellow sales docket, and Chocolate Thornton, representing the owner, said: "He is obviously going into training with Alan and the plan is to get on as quick as possible, he looks that type.
"he seems very amenable, breezed well. We will get on and see where we are, and that is what we were looking for.
"Might not be a usual type for Alan, but he has done it before with Asymmetric [winner of the Richmond Stakes (G2) and by Showcasing] who was a similar type."
Of the young sire, Thornton added: "This horse is bought in association with Federico Barberini, who has a huge connection with Soldier's Call so the team know a lot plenty about him."
Soldier's Call stands at Ballyhane Stud for €7,500. He won the Flying Childers Stakes (G2) at two, and was placed in the King's Stand Stakes (G1) and runner-up in the Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) for owner Clipper Logistics.
(17:56)
Lot 288:
sold by Nikki Scallan and Antonio Da Silva's A & N Bloodstock, this daughter of Starspangledbanner makes 120,000gns. Bought by Middleham Park Racing she is out of the Soldier Hollow mare Felissa, a half-sister to the Group 3 winner and Group 2 producer Felicity. She was bought as a yearling for €40,000.
Tom Palin of Middleham Park said: "She goes to Hugo Palmer, there is no finer trainer of one by Starspangledbanner. It is the obvious fit. He loved her, we loved her and she timed quite nicely. She is a big strong filly, has a bit of stamina to her pedigree so she is not whizz bang type, she looks like she should progress like most of Hugo's 'Starspangleds' have done. "
