Lot 1491:
Michael Fitzpatrick, who sold the Book 2, Day 2 top lot (Lot 1020) through Kilminfoyle House Stud, reinvests as JC Bloodstock when going to 72,000gns for this Hello Youmzain colt from Mount Coote Stud.
“He’s a nice horse who will go breezing. The sire was a very quick, well-bred horse by Kodiac so he must have a chance," said Fitzpatrick.
The March-born colt is out of the Royal Applause mare Bibury, the dam of three winners, including the Group 3 winner Steel Of Madrid, and a half-sister to the Ascot Gold Cup (G1) winner Rite Of Passage.
Bibury was bought at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2003 for 70,000gns.

Lot 1474:
the Elzaam half-sister to this year's Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) winner Live In The Dream is bought by Chasemore Farm, stud manager Jack Conroy on bidding duties, for 80,000gns. The filly is also half-sister to the Listed placed Live In The Moment.
"She has been bought for a client who boards a few broodmares with us," said Conroy, who signed under the banner JP Bloodstock. "We liked this filly, she has a lot of residual value, and we think Live In The Dream has every chance of going on to win the Breeders' Cup. Hopefully, this filly will be as sharp as her half-brother.
"The mare has done it more than once, and our vet Pat Sells helps with Live In The Dream so knows him well, which is helpful. This filly is late April foal so she should grow and Pat is sure she will develop and get to be bigger than Live In The Dream. At that money she makes sense and has a chance."
Of Chasemore's own October draft so far, he said: "We sold a really nice pinhooked colt half-brother to Pogo in Book 1 for half a million, and one or two made a bit more than we were expecting, but they have all gone to good homes who will do their best by them. We still have four or five more to sell.
The Elzaam filly was sold by Hegarty Bloodstock, co-pinhooked at €27,000 last year by David Hegarty and Sam Hoskins, who said: "I am a terrible vendor, I get very nervous, but I think she is a racehorse for the future, and good luck to the new owners. David has done a wonderful job with her, he has done all the hard work."
Of the decision to purchase her as a foal, he said: "I really liked her as a filly, she is athletic, she has a good mind, and we did think that Live In The Dream might be one of those three-year-olds who would get better this year at four. We were very aware of him, but never thought that he would win a Nunthorpe! At the least, we thought that the mare had had two 100+ rated horses from four winners and four runners – I love that ratio of good horses, she is clearly a very good mare."
Kennet Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds and Hot To Trot Racing, syndicates managed by Hoskins, both had runners in the Nunthorpe and he admits the York Group 1 was a race that gave him mixed emotions.
"I was watching our two who were drawn on the wrong side, and then suddenly my eye went to Live In The Dream, I hadn't really watching him – he was a 33-1 outsider," he said, admitting "it was a bit of a weird one" as he had to temper his enthusiasm after the race win in order to look after his syndicate members whose horses had finished sixth and eighth.
(14:51)
Lot 1444:
"I went to see her yesterday, and then I went to se her again this morning in the driving rain," reported Tom Goff after spending 65,000gns on the Make Believe half-sister to the recent Del Mar Oaks (G1) winner Anisette, a 2021 Tattersalls Somerville Sale graduate.
He continued: "It is a really good page, a really good pedigree, she is a really good filly, a good mover, then is some improvement in her and we know the family very well.... Sultanina, Dalvina, French Dressing ... and she is a sister to a Group 1 winner in the US. It is arguably one of the best pedigrees in the book."
Of the market over the past two weeks, he said: "In my humble opinion, set against the background of what has happened in the underlying economy over the last two years, and the state of UK prize-money, I think that the market has held up remarkably well. If a nice horse comes in the ring they make very good money."
The filly was sold by WH Bloodstock, bred by the Morera Partnership.
(13:14)
Lot 1426:
Kilcarn Park sells this filly by Blue Point to Con and Amy Marnane for 66,000gns.
"She looks a fast filly," said Marnane. "We have just been very lucky with Blue Points and we have four yearlings to breeze, a mare in-foal to him and a two-year-old in training, you can say we are big fans! He is a phenomenal stallion, he did it himself and he is doing it himself now."
"We have bought three this week – two by Blue Point and a Starspangledbanner," said Amy Marnane. "I will be here for Book 4, I have bought four from Book 4 and they have all become stakes horses – everyone else has gone home by then. I have the stamina to stay through to the end, I hope the horses don't have as much stamina as I do!"
Consignor Patrick Cosgrove had two catalogued for Book 3, but after withdrawal of a filly by Make Believe bought just the one lot to Newmarket this week.
"We purchased the mare Sun Lily from Keeneland and she is with us on the farm, we have a broodmare band of around ten," he explained. "This filly was bred and owned by my mother and the filly has been lovely all the way through. She has been busy here and a lot of people liked her. We could not get into Blue Point in year one, but we were keen to use him and we are delighted that we did."
Sun Lily, who was a two-year-old winner in the US and is from the family of the champion filly and Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Crimplene, has a foal at foot by Earthlight and was covered this spring by Make Believe.

Lot 1393:
Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock / Thurloe Thoroughbred stayed late at Tattersalls yesterday to buy the penultimate Book 2 lot through the ring (Lot 1350), and the team has started early in Book 3 going to 40,000gns for this colt by Nathaniel, sold by Jamie Railton (Agent).
The colt, who was bred by Beswick Brothers Bloodstock, was initially purchased as a Tattersalls December foal for 20,000gns by RSL.
The colt's dam Sauvalanche (Redoute's Choice) is a daughter of the Prix d'Astarte (G2) winner and Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (G1) runner-up Turtle Bow. She is a half-sister to Turtle Bowl, winner of the Prix Jean Prat (G1) and multiple Group 1 placed, and to the Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup runner-up Age Of Aquarius.
(11:33)
Lot 1363:
Mark Grant Racing goes to 47,000gns for the daughter of Kodi Bear, bred and consigned by Rathbarry Stud.
She is a February-born filly out of Piacere (New Approach), who was the dam of two winners from three runners before the catalogue was printed. The mare has subsequently improved that record to three from four in August with victory by her juvenile and Tattersalls Craven Sale graduate Kingdom Of Riches (Acclamation) at the end of August.
(10:56)
Lot 1355:
Whatton Manor Stud finished Book 2 off with a flourish yesterday and has begun Book 3 in the same form selling this Blue Point filly to breeze up consignor Micky Cleere for 60,000gns.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock Limited, the filly is out of the winning, 95-rated Sea The Stars mare Ouja, the dam of one winner from one runner.

At the conclusion of Book 2 of the 2023 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented:
“As referenced last week the 2022 Tattersalls October Yearling Sales reached extraordinary heights the like of which we may not see for many years to come, so for Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale to produce returns which, although falling short of last year, compare favourably with all bar two renewals of Europe’s largest yearling sale gives some perspective.
“As recently as 2016 the turnover at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale was below 40 million guineas, with a then record average price of 65,000 guineas, a record-equalling median of 50,000 guineas and an unprecedented 117 lots selling for 100,000 guineas or more.
"This year’s sale has achieved an average in excess of 80,000 guineas, a median second only to last year’s runaway record and a clearance rate of 85%. The outstanding DUBAWI filly who topped the sale at 725,000 guineas was the second highest priced filly ever sold at this sale, 55 lots have sold for 200,000 guineas or more which is fractionally fewer than last year and the diversity of buyers has been notable at all levels of the market.
“As ever the support from the consignors has been outstanding. Year after year horses purchased at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale are successful at the very highest level throughout the world, annually demonstrating the extraordinary quality of yearlings that British and Irish consignors, alongside many from mainland Europe, commit to this sale.
"Buyers, both domestic and international, derive huge confidence from the consistent racecourse achievements of Tattersalls October Yearlings and buyers from throughout Europe and the Gulf region, as well as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and the USA have all made valuable contributions this week alongside the domestic British and Irish participants who will always be the backbone of the October Yearling Sales.
"It is a source of pride that Books 1 and 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale showcase so many of the best yearlings to be found in Europe, but as we move on to Books 3 and 4 we should also highlight the quality of the yearlings to be offered in the next few days.
"The likes of last year’s Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner LEZOO and recent Group 2 Beresford Stakes winner DEEPONE were both bought at Book 3 of the October Yearling Sale and are graphic illustrations of the opportunities still to be found at Tattersalls this week.”

Lot 1309:
the third-last yearling colt by Sea The Stars to be offered at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale 2023 sells for 425,000gns, bought by Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock.
Brown, who was standing at the back of the right stairwell, said: "I think a lot of credit has got to go to our spotters – it is very hard to get around the numbers this week, and Sam Goyette, who works for Juddmonte, said very early on to me that he'd found a very special horse.
"I raised my eyebrows and said, 'Yes, of course!' But when I went down I was, 'Wow, this is very serious horse'.
"I knew that he'd be hard to buy – he is by one of the great stallions around and he has one of the proper back pages. Luckily, I had a client willing to stretch to have a proper go. I can't name the client, but the horse will stay in Europe and won't be allocated probably for a number of weeks.
"He is not actually a huge horse, but to my mind he is perfectly sized horse. I saw Baaeed quite a lot at William's [Haggas] and he had this great width of hip and was not big, and this horse has that same hind end as Baaeed. You can get bigger, rangy horses by the sire but this horse is much more medium size, compact with a huge hind end. He also has great movement and he just looked classy."
He added: "Buying a horse who looks like this by Sea The Stars gives you a chance of having a top Group 1 horse."
Of the market this week, Brown said: "I think it has been strong, really good. This week has been hard buying, I did not buy as many as last week, and I have tried on plenty. It is not completely smooth sailing and buoyant, but I think overall I'd say you'd have to have a positive take away.
"There are a lot of people here, a lot of people bidding 200,000gns+ horses, a totally new crowd has turned up after Book 1 and I am sure there will be another new crowd tomorrow. I thought this week would be tricky, and I would be able to buy what I wanted, absolutely not! This horse, I knew he was a Book 1 horse in Book 2 and I needed to put last week's hat back on and value accordingly."
Goyette was alongside to watch Brown bid and he recalled spotting the colt: "As soon as this horse came out of the box I just wrote 'belter', closed the book and said thank you very much!"
Explaining further he said: "He is just beautifully balanced and everything he does is effortless, his stride is effortless. He just stood out a mile."
The day job for Goyette is as a stud hand for Juddmonte and he has taken these two weeks of Tattersalls yearling sales as holiday.
He said: "This is just a great way to see good horses, stay involved and in touch with people. I was Richard's gofer three years back, and I look at what is listed for me. The horse has to have an action and a walk."
The colt was bred by Sunderlands and was sold by Norelands, he is out of the Dawn Approach mare Miss Alglonne and is a half-sister to Mekhtaal, winner of the Group 1 Prix d'Ispahan, three further black-type winners and three black-type performers.
Under the fourth dam is the Group 2 winner Fair Of The Furze, and her descendants the champion three-year-old White Muzzle and theGroup 1 winner Almutawakel.
(19:49)
Lot 1289:
the last of two colts catalogued in Book 2 by Galiway makes 150,000gns bought by Roger Charlton
The colt was offered by Keith Harte, bred by Select Bloodstock out of the mare Medical Kiss (Medicean), the dam of three winners from three runners, including the Listed-placed Boomboom Kiss.
(19:00)
Logt 1242:
"He has been very popular, everyone has liked him," said Ed Player of Whatton Manor Stud after the Gleneagles colt ex Ledena (Pivotal) sold for 325,000gns.
"He has been a super colt, his sire Gleneagles has had a great year and is, of course, sire of Royal Scotsman, who was third in the 2,000 Guineas and is bred on the same cross."
The cross has worked well this year – Melo Melo, by Gleneagles and the recent Group 1 Prix de Vermeille runner-up, is out of a mare by Excellent Art, a son of Pivotal.
The colt was bought by Ed Sackville for Jim Hay, the docket signed as D Farrington / SackvilleDonald.
Jim Hay, who enjoyed a two-year-old winner at Kempton this afternoon, said: "We decided early on this was the one we wanted. We have had quite a few by Gleneagles, we think he is a top-class stallion and we have been buying his progeny. We thought we should go after this one as well. He is out of a Pivotal mare and he has all the pedigree you could wish for. The experts Ed Sackville and Dermot Farrington tell me that that this is a horse with perfect conformation. This is where dreams start!"
The 2021 Tattersalls October Book 2 graduate Royal Scotsman, bought by SackvilleDonald for 125,000gns, has been put away for the year and Hay is looking forward to him being prepared for the Lockinge Stakes (G1) next spring.
(16:50)
Lot 1231:
bloodstock agent Federico Barberini adds a second by Blue Point to his Book 2 purchases, the agent going to 250,000gns for the colt, a first foal out of the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Lady Ramon (Ramonti).
The February-born colt is from the family of the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Stakes winner Gaily Gaily, the winner of 14 races
The sale was a successful pinhook for Longview Stud – the colt bought by DR Bloodstock for 37,000gns from Blue Diamond Stud at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale last year.
Barberini has bought eight in Book 2 so far for an average price of 151,250gns.
(16:45)
Lot 1222 and Lot 1223:
two well-bred fillies, lotted one after the other, catch the eye and both fetch over 200,000gns.
Lot
1222 is a daughter of Showcasing and a first foal out of La Rouel (Koadic), a half-sister to Roodeye, the dam of the Group 1 winner Mohaather and the Grade 2 winner Prize Exhibit, who are both also by Showcasing. She made 270,000gns and is bought by Alastair Donald from SackvilleDonald.
She was sold by Corduff Stud, who bred her in partnership with long-term partner Tim Rooney.
Lot
1223 is a daughter of Bated Breath and out of the Group 3-placed Lady Aquitaine, dam of four black-type winners, including this summer's Group 2 winner Lake Forest. It is the further family of dual Group 1 winner Roderic O'Connor.
She was bought by Avenue Bloodstock for MV Magnier from Newsells Park Stud, bred by Sahara Group Holdings.
(16:27)
Lot 1194:
the sale of this Siyouni colt to Joseph O'Brien for 310,000gns has topped a "great" week for Grangemore Stud. The farm has sold all seven lots offered in Book 2, four fetching six figures and an average price of the seven being 135,000gns.
In Book 1, Grangemore sold Lot 376, a filly by Dark Angel, to Sumbe for 850,000gns. The farm averaged 356,667gns for four lots sold last week.
"He is a smashing colt from a very good back family, Siyouni has had an amazing season and has two of the best three-year-olds around," said Guy O'Callaghan. "This is just a lovely simple horse and I bought him with my brother Robert for €78,000 from Haras d'Etreham and the late Lady O'Reilly."
Continuing to discuss the stallion, he said: "You can't plan these things, but at the end of the say class is permanent and form is temporary and Siyouni is just a class stallion –Paddington coming out this year, just like St Mark's Basilica a few years back, there is a reason people want to buy these colts.
"We have had a fantastic week, Book 2 has been a very strong sale, I was lucky as I felt I had a a real good bunch of horse. Thankfully they have sold accordingly."
Purchaser Joseph O'Brien, who signed under the banner Opm Equine, said: " He is lovely horse, by Siyouni who has had exceptional year and he has come from a good stock and we are very pleased to get him. He is one of the best sires in the world at the moment. He looks like he will will make up into a two-year-old type, he is a strong sort and it is very exciting. Obviously the pedigree goes back very well."
The colt's third dam is the Classic winner Highway To Heaven, the dam of the Aidan O'Brien trained Group 1 winners Magical and Rhododendron, and grand-dam of this year's Classic winner Auguste Rodin.
(14:59)
Lot 1163:
"He was bred by Nigel and Nicola Welby, they breed under Kingsmead Bloodstock and are based at Yokehurst Farm, they have done all the work," said Ed Player of Whatton Manor Farm after selling this Too Darn Hot colt for 320,000gns.
"The mare was bought for them by Richard Knight. I had heard they had a lovely colt and I was going to get to prep him.
All the credit goes to them, the colt turned up to me and their team had done a very good job with him. We had him for eight or nine weeks and he has been a superstar all along, he was one of those that when he walked off the horse box at ours I knew that we'd be in good shape. I never dreamed he'd make that sort of price, I am delighted for Nigel and Nicola, they are such nice people."
He added: "A couple of years back they topped the second day of Book 3 with a Time Test colt [a colt out of Purest sold for 95,000gns], but this is easily their best sale in the ring. They are thrilled and I am so pleased it went so well for them – I was walking the box, but they were walking the box more than me! They have around four or five mares at home and have two in Book 3 to sell."
Highclere Agency was the successful purchaser and Jake Warren said: "He is a magnificent colt, really powerful with a strong good head. He really looks like what you'd expect a good Too Darn Hot would look like.
"The mother was good, she was rated 97, she is a young mare, and he is a really really impressive individual.
"It is a lot of money but the stallion has had one hell of a start. He has already had a three Group winners of the May Hill, the Moyglare, and a Tattersalls winner, he is off to as good a start as any stallion could wish to hope for – so why should this horse not be top class?
He has been bought by Sheikh Isa and will get this horse home, get him broken in, and then he will be evaluated in the new year and we will work out a trainer then."
Of trade this week, he said: "To buy a nice horse is really hard, we have been pushing hard all week and we are going above and beyond budgets to get these nice horses bought. It has been hard tob uy them. It is great for the vendors."
(14:43)
Lot 1154:
the Churchill colt out of Honor Bound (Authorized), a half-sister to Treasure Beach, the champion Irish three-year-old colt of 2011 and a dual Group 1 winner, is bought by D Farrington/Sackville Donald for 310,000gns.
Ed Sackville was selected as spokesperson and he said: "Dermot and I have bought him together for owner Jim Hay. Churchill has had an outstanding year on the track, headlined by Blue Rose Cen in France. This colt is from a brilliant farm, who bred Authorized and his half-brother Andromede is now a stakes winner, there is plenty happening in the family. Trainer is to be decided."
(14:07)
Lot 1151:
the Wootton Bassett out of the Group 3-placed mare Hint Of Tint (Danehill Dancer) and sold by Islanmore Stud, is bought by Najd Stud for 300,000gns.
Najd's Saud Al Qahtani, who has been at Tattersalls through from Book 1 and will be here for the Autumn Horses In Training Sale, said: "She was one of the best fillies I saw this morning, she looks a very good individual. She is very nice.
"This is first by the sire we have purchased, and I do think she is outstanding and I hope, Inshallah, she is good for His Royal Highness Prince Faisal and will be a leading filly next year.
"She will be trained in Newmarket and I am waiting for the prince to tell me which one, there are three or four names and one of them will be selected. The Prince is looking to increase his numbers in training in the UK with good quality horses, but some of this week's purchases will also be going to Saudi, the country's racing industry is booming. We buy some for Saudi and some for the UK, and we have a plan to get bigger and better."
Of future plans, he added: "If she wins a big race, she will stay here as a broodmare. We have Saffron Beach in-foal to Frankel here and hopefully, Inshallah, we will get a champion."
The dual Group 1-winning Saffron Beach (New Bay) was bought by Najd Stud at the last year's Tattersalls December Mares' Sale for 3,600,000gns.
The filly was sold by Islanmore Stud and the farm's stud manager Nigel Anderton said: "She is a beautiful filly by a great sire, and thanks goes to the buyer and the underbidder Harry Herbert and Jake Warren, too, they were very disappointed not to get her.
"The stud farm bought Hint Of A Tint as a yearling and she got to a rating of 105, she was a very good race filly. We are now very privileged to have the stock to sell out of her. She has a lovely Sioux Nation who hopefully will come here next year.
He added: "The team at home and here have done a great job producing her."
Islanmore had a draft of two in Book 2 and is due to sell a filly by Ten Sovereigns as Lot
1259
(14:00)
Lot 1145:
the Havana Grey Tattersalls Book 2 roll continues... this colt is bought by Anthony Stroud, who outbid Alex Elliott, at 320,000gns, And while yesterday's top-priced lots by the exciting young sire were largely pinhooks, bred and then sold by Whitsbury Manor Stud as a foals, this colt had been retained by the stud for sale as a yearling.
"He is a lovely horse, a very easy moving horses, he has great flow, he goes to Simon [Crisford] who has done well with Havana Grey," saud Stroud. "I did not think he'd make that much, to be honest, but there are many buyers keen to get to Havana Grey, and the pedigree for this colt is there for all to see."
Of business through Book 2's sale, he said: "Trade this week has been good, the statistics have held up, the clearance rate is good. The sales company has done well to finish each evening at 8.15pm, and I think there has been a good buzz here this week."
A thrilled consignor Ed Harper said: "It is always difficult when your nicest horse in the sale is the last horse in your draft and sells on the last day, you are waiting and waiting. They can also drag a bit of interest because everyone focusing on the superstar and it is difficult to point them in another direction.
"I really appreciate Anthony Stroud and Simon Crisford being so keen to get the sires's stock, it is for obvious reasons with Vandeek, but to keep going to get the next one is fantastic."
Harper now is in the great position of thinking about just where to set the sire's fee for next spring, he said: "I am getting a lot of advice, which I do appreciate, but we have trained ourselves not to think about these things until after Book 3. It is definitely an experience."
Of the key to Havana Grey's success, he said: "He is just a phenomenon. He loves life, he loved being a racehorse, now he loves being a stallion. He is the happiest horse on the planet, except when he is disturbed from his feed bowl! His yearlings and foals are the same – when you put a feed in a Havana Grey's bowl, you leave them well alone until they are done.
"They are very easy horses to train, it is a big thing now in today's racing world. I also think that they are born to race, and they are generally very well balanced horses so they deal easily with the undulating tracks."
He concluded: "We bought Hello Glory with our good friend Heather Slade, and it is her best result with a yearling in the sale ring."
Sadly, Hello Glory died this spring, which has reduced Slade's broodmare band to just two, but she is in the happy position of owning a breeding right to the stallion, which she bought "right at the start".
(13:34)
Lot 1092:
James Ferguson with Chris Waller spends 140,000gns on the Too Darn Hot colt out of the Listed winner Frankel Light (Frankel), sold by Watership Down Stud.
"I have trained for Chris Waller since I started," explained Ferguson after purchase. "The horses train here as two-year-olds, and take advantage of our good two-year-old system, we try and get the horses to Royal Ascot if we can, but the end goal is to send them to Australia as late three-year-olds where they should be competitive.
"The horses we have sent down in the past have done very well – Francesco Guardi, El Bodegon and Wineglass Bay have all run in Group races, and Francesco Guardi might even be running in the Melbourne Cup."
Of this individual he outlined: "This is a lovely horse from Watership Down, Too Darn Hot has done amazing things this season and this horse fitted into the budget. We are looking for horses that look like they will progress with age. This colt has a wonderful family, it is a very attractive pedigree and he is out of Frankel mare and think he is well bought."
The colt's third dam Piquetnol, runner-up in the Prix Marcel Boussac, is an own-sister to Chimes Of Freedom and is the dam of the Group 3 winner Dietrich.

Lot 1059 and Lot 1060:
Pier House Stud and Ballyphilip Stud, both farms who have enjoyed earlier success today, get results over 200,000gns from pinhooked-offered colts by young Darley sires.
Lot
1059, by Ghaiyyath and a €145,000 foal purchase, makes 220,000gns for Pier House, while the following lot from Ballyphilip, makes 240,000gns. The son of Too Darn Hot was bought as a foal for €67,000 and sold today for 240,000gns.
Both colts are half-brothers to winners, and with strong second dams. The Ghaiyyath's grand-dam is the Group 1 Oaks D'Italia third-placed Miss Meltemi (Miswaki Tern) and an ancestress of eight black-type horses, four of which are winners, while the Too Darn Hot's grand-dam is Elizabeth Bay. She won the Prix Eclipse (G3) and was Group 1-placed in the Coronation Stakes.
There are seven black-type horses under her pedigree entry, six of whom are winners. Third dam is the dual Grade 1 winner and multiple graded stakes winner and performer Life At The Top.
(19:53)
Lot 1051:
by Sea The Stars and out of Emotion (Exceed And Excel), a half-sister to the Lillie Langtry Stakes (G2) winner and Group 1-plaqced Enbihaar, makes 310,000gns.
The May foal was sold by Norelands Stud and is from the family of the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Amonita, the Prix du Calvados winner Cox Orange and her daughter Vista Bella, placed third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas (G1).
Emotion has a colt foal by No Nay Never and was covered again this spring by the Coolmore sire.
Buyer Hugo Merry said: “She’s for the partnership between my client Andrew Rosen and Marc Chan, who’s a client of Jamie McCalmont. They’ve owned Prosperous Voyage and Lezoo together so they’ve been very lucky. We thought she was probably the nicest filly of the day and she’s the only one we’ve bid on for them.
“Usually we look for something out of a stakes mare or a sibling to a black-type performer, but we got beaten to death last week!
"We bought two in the end, but we’re trying to buy a couple more, so we’ve gone on the physical with this filly. She’s a particularly attractive and athletic individual with a terrific blue hen family further back. I suspect she’ll go into training with Ralph Beckett."
(19:32)
Lot 1047:
this colt by Blue Point and out of Elusive Girl (Elusive City), is bought by Federico Barberini for 280,000gns.
"He is a smashing horse, by a clearly very talented sire in Blue Point," reported Barberini. "We have been working last week and this week for Sheikh Ahmed, to try and find some nice two-year-old types with scope to be good three-year-olds too. It is subjective, but we thought he was the best looking of the Blue Points.
"When you are looking for a nice two-year-olds, you need to consider the stallion. We have no plans as yet regarding the trainer, we have a bunch of horses and will allocate later."
Barberini has purchased 16 horses across Book 1 and 2 for the Sheikh.
Of Book 2's trade so far, Barberini said: "It is a good solid market, there is a good variety of horses here and breeders know, as usual, know what to put in this sale."
(19:26)
Lot 1020:
another Whitsbury Stud-bred foal sold as a pinhook last winter hits the mark as a yearling – this colt out of Dotted Swiss was purchased at the December Sale by JC Bloodstock for 82,000gns and is sold today by Kilminfoyle Bloodstock for 425,000gns to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock.
The colt is an own-brother to this year's leading juvenile Elite Status, winner of the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg, third home in the Norfolk Stakes (G2) and winner of the Listed National Stakes. He was bred by Whitsbury and pinhooked at the 2021 December Foal Sale by JC Bloodstock for 56,000gns, subsequently sold by Kilminfoyle to Karl and Kelly Burke for 325,000gns in last year's October Book 2 Sale.
Kilminfoyle's Michael Fitzpatrick, who is no stranger to achieving top prices at Tattersalls, said: "I bought this colt as a foal solely on the full-brother – I sold him last year and loved him. Whitsbury Manor is a great breeder and this horse is pleasure to do anything with. My thanks go to Anthony Stroud, and I wish the new owners the very best of luck.
"I also can't thank my staff enough – Pamela, Hannah and Santos. It is only for them, the work they do, I actually think they are made of iron!"
Buyer Anthony Stroud said: “He’s a very nice horse with a current update. Havana Grey has done terrifically well. He’s a very well balanced horse who moves very well."
When asked to compare this colt to Vandeek, the dual Group 1-winning juvenile bought by Stroud at the Tattersalls Craven Sale for joint top-price of 625,000gns, he said: “With Vandeek we were lucky enough to see him breeze, but this colt has the credentials to be a very, very nice horse. He’s got the pedigree and he’s by a stallion who’s done very well and is really on the up. He’s been bought for Sheikh Nasser and will go to Simon Crisford."
Of the Whitsbury stallion he added: “He’s done it the hard way and he’s a very exciting young stallion. He’s clearly on an upward trajectory and is upgrading his mares."
The colt's story so far has been a case of history repeating itself, hopefully the case of deja vu will be continued on the track next summer.
(18:47)
Lot 1013:
Redpender Stud's pinhooked son of Earthlight is bought by Ben McElroy / Hamish Macauley / Amo Racing for 325,000gns.
Jimmy Murphy of Repender was delighted with the result having bought the colt for 78,000gns last year.
"He was a nice, good-looking foal, we took a chance – plenty others don't work out so well!" reported Murphy. "Earthlight is a son of Shamardal and this colt is from a very good dam line. We were lucky that Selenaia [Grade 3 winner] came up in the first dam and then Lake Forest in the second dam won the Gimcrack.
"He is very much a two-year-old precocious type of horse, hopefully we will see him at Ascot."
Derek Iceton of Tara Stud bred the colt, sold him to Redpender and was at Tattersalls to watch the colt go through the ring. He said: "I am absolutely delighted, I had a good day last December and got paid well, and I love to see people make some money. I am so pleased to see the colt go on again now. I have a half-brother by Space Blues to come here in December [Lot 707]. I bought the mare from Newsells Park, she is young mare so it is a great result"
Dettoria (Declaration Of War) was bought through J Walsh Bloodstock at the December Mares Sale 2018 for just 12,000gns.
(18:27)
Lot 981:
another six-figure result for a filly bred by Whitsbury Stud, sold as a foal and by the farm's leading sire Havana Grey – the first foal out of Colouring makes 280,000gns and was pinhooked by Ballyphilip Stud, who purchased her for €68,000.
She was bought today by Joe Foley, buying for Steve Parkin's Clipper Logistics: "She’s a very good example of what the stallion can throw. As we all know, he’s made an outstanding start, he’s on the way to superstar stallion status. We have a good two-year-old by him this year called Queen’s Guard. When you have a Havana Grey yearling, it gives you a chance.
"I like the fact she’s out of a Showcasing mare, I like the idea of him as a broodmare sire, and it goes back to Blue Duster. It’s a good, fast family and one I like."
Colouring (Showcasing), the winner of one race at two, was bred by Whitsbury out of Blue Lyric (Refuse To Bend), who was purchased from Fittocks Stud in 2010 for 16,000gns.
(16:58)
Lot 976:
Hazelwood Bloodstock achieves a significant pinhooking result – this Havana Grey filly, who was bought at the Tattersalls December Sale for 28,000gns by Hazelwood, is sold today for 140,000gns. She was bought last year from Whitsbury Manor Stud, Havana Grey's Hampshire-based farm.
Adrian O'Brien said: "I have been a fan of Havana Grey for a few years and I have pinhooked a few by him. He was phenomenally successful as a two-year-old sire in year one, and the question this year was whether they would train on – they have, he has successful answered that question!"
He added: "The two-year-old out of the mare is also a winner now, and this filly is a beauty – she is scopey, has a great walk to her, she vets very clean and just really catches the eye. I wish Ross O'Sullivan and Katie Walsh the best."
Of his foal-buying strategy O'Brien said: "I must admit when I am buying foals, it is the physique is my primary focus – I guess it is getting the whole picture right!"
(16:49)
Lot 939:
when successful breeder James Hanly of Ballyhimikin Stud reports that this is one of the nicest colts he has bred, then the buying audience should take note... and indeed it did and responded with some positive bidding, Stephen Hillen opening things up at 100,000gns.
The price sped up through the ranks until reaching a final mark at 325,000gns, the successful buyer Ben McElroy, the docket signed as Ben McElroy / Hamish Macauley/ Robson Aguiar.
"He is a very imposing colt, very fluent mover, he has carried himself well over the two or three days of showing, just a lovely horse," said McElroy. "I actually thought he might cost a bit more, maybe the aggressive bidding stopped progress. He has been bought for Amo Racing, and will go to Robson Augiar who will assess him for Kia and decide on a trainer next spring. Robson will see how he fits in with the other yearlings / two-year-olds and will decide whether he will make up into a Royal Ascot type."
Yesterday McElroy and Amo bought Lot
597, a filly by Pinatubo and out of Queen Of The Stars, for 110,000gns, and the buyer said of the young sire: "We bought a beautiful filly yesterday from Barton Stud. The sire seems to be getting nice stock and he was a great racehorse and I think this colt has a great chance. I'd be impressed with what I have seen of the sire's stock."
James Hanley said: "He is a homebred, but we bought his dam Boston Rocker. She has bene a great servant and has already produced a horse rated 116 [San Donato]. Hopefully, this guy will be every bit as good. She is in-foal to Blue Point and has a Night Of Thunder at foot – we are hopeful of her.
"We wish the new owner every success and he is as nice a horse as we have ever had. He is a great reflection of Pinatubo."
(15:43)
Lot 915:
"I am a little bit shaky!" laughed Charlie Fellowes after successfully buying, with agent Will Douglass of Charlie Gordon Watson Bloodstock, this colt by Wootton Bassett for 350,000gns. It is the most expensive purchase for Fellowes in the ring. Underbidder was Richard Ryan.
The colt is out of the Galileo mare Beluga, a three-quarters sister to the Derby winner Pour Moi. He was bred by Westerberg and was sold by WH Bloodstock.
"I am delighted to have got him, we loved him the first time we saw him," added Fellowes. "He is by a very good stallion, out of a Galileo mare, he has a very good pedigree, he walked around the back ring like he owned the place and he seems to have a good mind, there is a lot like.
"He will be running for Paul Hickman, I bought a Frankel colt for him last week [Lot 383]. He lives in Singapore, but his children go to school in England so he is over a quite bit. He has had horses for a long time, and had horses with Sir Henry Cecil.
"We had a good go on several horses last week and earlier in the season, but I think this one is as good as any of them."
Douglass added: "Paul Hickman is a very nice owner, he likes pedigrees and understands them. This is very special horse and, hopefully, he is lucky."
Of the experience of buying such horses, he said: "It is not easy to buy, you follow the nice horses through and you are basically competing against countries! It is very tough to get the ones you want and get involved."
When asked what ambitions the new team has for this colt, Douglass said simply: "To win a Classic!"
The colt is a top ten best price achieved at Tattersalls for Mimi Wadham and Violet Hesketh of WH Bloodstock.
"He is a very bred horse, he comes from a fantastic family, he is wonderful mover and everyone who looked him really liked him," said Wadham. "We expected him to sell well, and although he surpassed expectations, he is worth it as he could be anything. Let's hope he is as good as he looks. He has not turned a hair since he has been here, he just gets on with the job and has a great attitude."
She added: "The successful buyers have been coming up to me all day and asking what interest there had been, they were determined to have him as was the underbidder. We were very lucky that two groups wanted to buy him that much."
(14:53)
Lot 889 and Lot 893:
Jake Warren signing as Highclere Agency buys two lots in quick succession – Lot
889, a colt by Camelot bred and sold by Tally-Ho Stud, and Lot
893, a filly by Dark Angel, bred and sold by Newsells Park Stud.
Warren said: "The Camelot is a lovely colt, he is very athletic, very well produced by Tally-Ho. He has a fantastic way about him, and he handled it around the ring really well. He is the kind of horse who could win a proper race, a Classic race, he looks a real Classic prospect.
"The Dark Angel filly is a really racy, powerful filly with a lovely pedigree and we have had some success with the stallion over the years. We have been buying a few fillies who will, hopefully, end up in the broodmare band. She is precocious and strong.
"We have no training plans. They will come back to Highclere, then will probably go to Malcolm Bastard and we will make a call from there."
Both have been purchased on behalf of Sheikh Isa, the colt costing 250,000gns and the filly 130,000gns.
(13:44)
Lot 855:
the Pier House Stud homebred Blue Point colt out of Al Kirana (Exceed And Excel) is bought by Peter & Ross Doyle for 250,000gns.
Ger Morrin of the farm said: "We are delighted, Ross [Doyle] and Richard [Hannon] bought the Group 3 winner Shamwari Lodge off me, and Richard trains the Group 3 winner Oh This Is Us, it is all his family. This is a lovely horse, he has a lovely action and is a horse we bred so we are delighted."
Of the mare's covering by Blue Point he outlined: "It is a fast family and we just went for speed, she is tall mare and I thought Blue Point would be a good mating for her. I did not think this horse would quite make that, but the sire has gone the right way and a couple of the runners out of her are highly rated. She is nice mare, hopefully next June this lad will turn up where I think he might!
Of accessing the pedigree, which stretches to Pipalong, the champion older French and European mare, Morrin explained: "When I managed Swordlestown for Cathal Ryan, I bought Limpopo for him, the dam of Pipalong.
"I then purchased her daughter Ripalong from Swordlestown. It has just been a really lucky family for me, it is solid and sound family. When those homebreds go right it is lovely."
He added: "Al Kirana has a St Mark's Basilica filly out of her, a very nice foal, probably our best foal. I will keep her and sell as a yearling – I will wait until this lad wins at Ascot! She is not in-foal, we might look to a stallion such as Havana Grey next year."
(12:32)
Lot 832:
Stringston Farm, which has enjoyed such great results in the Tattersalls sale ring, gets another today selling the Wootton Bassett half-brother to the recent Group 1-placed Melo Melo (Gleneagles) and the Group 3 winner Treasuring (Havana Gold) for 260,000gns to BBA Ireland bidding online.
it is a pedigree that has not only done well on the track, but also produced the goods for Stringston in the sale ring.
Melo Melo was sold as a foal to BBA Ireland for 110,000gns at the December Foal Sale in 2019, while Treasuring was sold four years earlier at the same sale for 30,000gns. She was subsequently sold at the December Mares Sale 2018 to Katsumi Yoshida for 500,000gns.
Stringston's Nick Pocock spoke after the sale of Lot
914, a colt by Too Darn Hot out of the Listed winner Belle Rose, for 125,000gns.
"This colt had a small injury as a foal so that is why he did not sell then, which is our usual game," recalled Pocock. "He has always been a nice easy-moving colt. We bred the dam, and this has been a lucky family for us. It was the top end of where we thought we'd get to, we are very pleased with the price."
Of the significant Book 1 update achieved by Melo Melo, he said: "It has been brilliant watching Melo Melo this year. When they put her away in the middle of the summer we thought 'Oh god, why are they doing that?' But it has worked out great, and it was special to have a runner in the Vermeille, it is a race you kind of dream of being involved with."
Of the mare, he updated: "You Look So Good has got a Too Darn Hot, who will be here for the December Sale [Lot 855], and is in-foal to Perfect Power. We felt that we need to give a bit more speed and go along the lines of Treasuring."
(11:37)
Lot 825:
owner Steve Ryan and wife Nuala were at Park Paddocks to buy Lot
825, Steve in charge of bidding himself and signed as Santry at 250,000gns.
The son of Camelot, who is out of the Declaration Of War Group 1 Brisbane Queensland Oaks-winning mare Winning Ways, is going into training with Kevin Ryan, who is no relation to the couple.
The colt was bred by John Hamilton and sold by The Castlebridge Consignment.
"This is a lovely horse, he has such a deep chest and has such a good pedigree," said owner Ryan who has seven horses with trainer Ryan. "Catch The Paddy won for us at Newmarket last week, Just Another Bottle was ours too, we have had some nice horses.
"As soon as I saw this horse, I rang Kevin and said 'Get your xxxxx here quick ',
It has been a good stint on the racecourse for the owner with Tattersalls graduates – the Ryan-trained and Ryan-owned Irish Nectar won a maiden in September, the son of Invincible Spirit bought for 50,000gns in Book 1 last year, Catch The Paddy was from Book 1 in 2021 and was purchased for 80,000gns.
Ryan's business Bee Health, one of the biggest supplement manufacturers in Europe, was sold last year to the US-based firm Dallas-based INW.
(11:17)

Lot 781:
Somerville Paddock P has been a lucky row today – first, the Showcasing filly from Carmel Stud sold for 325,000gns (Lot
701) and from Box 852, two hours later, the Pinatubo filly sold by Corduff Stud and five boxes down the row in Box 847 makes exactly the same amount, bought by Justin Casse for Joseph O'Brien.
The filly is out of Toquette, bred by Corduff and the Corcoran family's Farmleigh Bloodstock Ltd.
"We bred her, we bred her mother," reported the farm's David Egan. "Pinatubo is a beautiful horse, and I give him a big shout. He is a good-looking Shamardal, as is Blue Point – hopefully Pinatubo will do as well as him."
Of thoughts coming to the sale, Egan said: "It is easy to like them at home, but it becomes less relevant the closer you get to the gavel. We really like this filly, we like the physical and she goes to Joseph, which is a great shout. We still have the mare as well as three sisters to Toquette."
Justin Casse said: "I like that the mare has already produced some black-type, and we were looking for something early – everybody has Royal Ascot dreams. Her pedigree suggests that there is some precocity. She has the build to be early, she comes from a good nursery and all of that equated.
"The Pinatubos are lovely horses, I looked at a lot of them and was impressed with what I saw. For me I felt that she was the best filly in Book 2, I like fillies that look like colts – that is her, she is a very robust and good-moving horse. She goes to Joseph O'Brien, she will be broken in there and we will hope for top hats and tails come June!"
(20:29)
Lot 736 and Lot 755:
two by the first-season sire Blue Point hit the mark – Lot
736 makes 200,000gns to SackvilleDonald, while Lot
755 was signed for by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock at 190,000gns.
Lot
736 was a €90,000 pinhook bought as a foal by today's consignor Grangemore Stud. The yearling is out of Summer Dream (Oasis Dream), the dam of four winners from four runners, including the Listed Redcar Two Year Old Trophy winner Summer Daydream.
Lot
755 was sold by New England Stud and the colt is out of Taraateel (Oasis Dream) a grand-daughter of Torrestrella, winner of the Poule D'Essai des Pouliches (G1).
She was bought from the Shadwell dispersal at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2021 by Mascalls Stud for 230,000gns. She has a filly foal by Zoustar and was covered by Cracksman.
(19:20)
Lot 724:
the full-sister to Poker Face (Fastnet Rock), recent winner of the Prix Daniel Wildenstein (G2) and the Prix Quincey (G3), makes 200,000gns bought by Ben McElroy Agent for Amo Racing.
Poker Face is a Tattersalls graduate – she was bought by Richard Frisby Bloodstock for 95,000gns in 2020 October Book 1.
Brian McConnon, stud manager of Marlhill Stud, said: "We are thrilled, we bought the mare with Fastnet Rock in mind. To have this pedigree update in the last month – it is what everybody dreams of to have an update like that just before a sale – meant a lot to us. This is a May foal, and to get a price like that... "
Of thoughts before going in the ring, he said: "You are never sure what is going to happen, but today when the vets started to appear, we got a little more confident."
And of the mare's latest news he updated: "Stars At Night is in-foal to Justify, we are looking forward to bringing the progeny back and auctioning him or her here."
